The Mosh Pit Beckons

There's a pretty cool tour going around starting in January. It's Zao, Devildriver, Trivium, and [I][B]IN FLAMES[/B][/I]. Personally, I think that's a really poorly chosen lineup for In Flames openers, but it should still be good.

I'm actually going to a concert tomorrow with the likes of KILLWHITNEYDEAD, Glass Casket, Bloodjinn, and The Demonstration. This is one of the best shows I could ask for, all of these bands are high on my list of favorites. I've yet to see KWD play, but I heard they're not quite as good in person, and it's actually a different band that is kind of liscensed to play their songs or something. I heard other rumors that KWD and The Demonstration are the same band, who knows?

I also had the pleasure of seeing A Life Once Lost, Madball, Norma Jean, and As I Lay Dying at the Shadows are Security tour last month. It was amazing, it was the biggest show I've been to. People were fainting and being carried off on stretchers at this show, it was insane. So, you should either check it out or avoid it, depending on how you like your shows.

Anyhow, like I said in previous threads, I've been to some local bands concerts and than there was one awesome concert with Black Dahlia, Shadows Fall, It Dies Today, Adozenfuries, and The Haunted. It was a pretty small, indoor place and the turnout was bigger than they had capacity for so the moshpits rocked because you just got tossed everywhere, people losing crap. Ah bliss.

I've been only to a few shows in my life, but the most recent one was to see [The] Misfits. There was like 5 local bands opening for them, and the concert was in The Chance in Poughkepsie here in NY. Now, if anyone else is from this area of NY, you might know that The Chance is sooo small. The "pit" area is really tiny, and that night the pit area was overloaded with people. The entire area was just one, huge, and very violent mosh pit. I'm telling you, people came out of the pit with broken legs, ankles, and coming out concussed.

It was pretty bad. But the concert rocked the house. That place was way over-stocked with people. It was madness. Another concert coming up in this area is Avenged Sevenfold. I'd not planned on going--and I'm still debating on it, but I know a couple people who are and I can only imagine how the pit is going to look for that show.

Let's see, Hatebreed is supposed to be up here, too. I can't remember who's touring with them. [/size][/color]

[SIZE=1]System have went down after their Self-Titled album, Toxicity was a joke to me, Steal This Album was just as bad, and Mesmerize/Hynotize - please don't get me started on that. Their first album was by far there best album they've made, but since then, it's been quite bad.

And for gigs upcoming, well there is the Kerrang XXV, featuring: Bullet for my Valentine, Hawthorne Heights, Aiden and Still Remians. Trivium are also touring, hm, who else...? Well that's all I can think/know of. Ah well.[/SIZE]

As for SOAD, I strongly dislike them simply because I think that most of their songs, mainly their lyrics, are stupid. Apparently there's a song about pogo sticks and a fish? Another song where the singer chants "my d___ is bigger than yours"? Next.

Yes, I understand that SOAD has a few meaniful songs and rare occurances of decent lyrics. I have to say that some of their songs, between the beat or the groove of whatever's going on, is alright. But when you're going back and forth between "The Pesident should fight the war" and "We're going to a party and having a real good time," we have issues. And yeah, I probably slightly misquoted their lyrics somewhere in this post, I'm at least close enough for you to get my point, yeah?[/font]

[size=1][color=indigo]Firstly, calm down, man. So people don't like SoaD as much as you do; everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Having a fit over it isn't going to help the situation.

Secondly, I would like to say that I find SoaD's radio aired stuff to be not so great as their older stuff. But, I work at Hot Topic, where I get the pleasure of listening to whatever I want; and it's usually loads of SoaD (depending who's all working), and I will say that their albums [all of them] are pretty damned good. I'm not one to bash a band based on one or two songs. Yeah, one or two of their songs I'll find annoying and played out, but that's still no grounds to shame them.

So, all of SoaD's stuff is bittersweet. Some of it isn't too good, some of it is awesome. You take the good with the bad. Easy as that. I like SoaD, it's a band that I can find challenging to listen to. I mean their lyrics are a mix of very serious issues, and happy-go-lucky comedy. But, also there is a lot of things to look into in their music/lyrics--which is what is draws me into music.

Moving on topic, I listed in my previous post what bands I know of that are touring in my area, don't think it really helps you out though =/[/size][/color]

[SIZE=1]Most people here don't like Green Day for one of two reasons-

1. The majority of people who post in this forum are Metal Heads [No offence, I'm just stating the obvious!]

2. Green Day has become too popular for all the wrong reasons. I looked at a bulliten on my My Space account the other day. It was a chain-letter where you posted your 5 top favorite bands. The first 967 people had Green Day as thier #1, and it slowly faded to My Chemical Romance, Coheed and Cambria, etc. But still, the majority were Green Day.

The message Green Day puts out really speaks to me. I like them, and I've liked them since I was eight years old. Put that in your pipe and smoke it, Green-Day-Lover-Wanna-Be's.

Anywho, I saw Green Day in Atlanta last time they toured. Jimmy Eat World *shudder* opened for them. I didn't like that one bit. But Green Day was good. Most definitely.[/SIZE]

SoaD is a great band in my opinon, definetly a band I could see a moshpit goin down in. Ads for saying that after their self titled they went down, I have to disagree, Steal this Album is when they went down. They didn't originally get much hype for their first album and Toxicity was when they were really discovered.
Steal This Album, Mesmerize, and Hypnotize are the results of being mutilated my being successful and put in the the extreme mainsteam.

Anyhow, Disturbed is coming to Portland, OR like on the 9th and 10th of Jan. I'm going with a bunch of friends. The Moshpit is gonna rock. Than on thr 30th, Trivium, In Flames, Devil Driver, and Zao are gonna be there. I'm prolly gonna go to that one. That's the one with the serious moshing I think.

It seems very high-risk, and you're certainly not coming out of the pit coming unscathed. Why cause yourself physical pain for no real reason? Any explaination would be welcome.[/size]

I guess, you just want to jump and lash out with the music--especially, if you can relate to the music/songs. When you get into a song, you sort of just feel it, and it takes control. Some people will tell you that they like pain, some people will say that they have a lot of anger to release, and the pit is a very good place to release it.

Or, some people are ***holes and want to hurt other people--I've seen that too.[/size][/color]

No, there's really only 3 or 4 actual Metalheads here on the boards - we just tend to post the most, making it seem like there's more of us than anything else :laugh:

As for the question about moshing, the appeal is this: raw energy and raw outlet go hand in hand. You can't just go out onto the street and kick, punch, or push any random individual. At a Hardcore or Metal show, the idea of physical contact is a universally understood one. You [I]can[/I] engage in fighting, but here's the thing: it's generally a friendly environment. This concept is lost to outsiders, but if you've ever been in a real moshpit, you know that while other moshers are hitting each other, they're also quick to help each other up if they've fallen or get them out safely if they're really hurt. I honestly can't put my finger on why it's so appealing, and I personally would rather stand in the front row and enjoy the band, but moshing definately has it's place.

I guess you just have to try it yourself.

I've never been in an actual for real moshpit, because I've never really had the chance. I know I was desperate to start one at my eighth grade picnic last year, because the idiot DJ played [i]nothing but popular hiphop[/i], and I think some country (OHGODMYEARS) and rock. So, I sent one of my friends to request something harder, like Slipknot (which I don't really like, but heck. It's better than all the other crap the DJ was playing) specifically so that me and my misfit friends could jump around insanely. We were probably the only ten people that would've done it, anyway. xD. All though I think we started jumping on each other when the DJ played a Blink182 song, which is the closest I've been to an actual moshpit. There have been some mild versions of a mosh pit that I've been in: at a crazy church function with a bunch of spontaneous boys, and then in my own living room whilst listening to my chorus' Holiday Concert CD (there was a ska band, but I mainly went insane over even the mildest of songs...)
However, I have headbanged quite excessively. To Nightwish's "Slaying the Dreamer." There's a certain part in that song where it's only the basic rock formation (guitar, bass, and drum) and it's so amazingly powerful. It compels one to jump around, smashing into things. It's quite dangerous. My neck is in pain for days after such a possession.

I don't go to concerts often, because I mainly enjoy obscure bands (I have a rabid obsession over Rasputina, but they're not coming here soon) who don't really tour around this area. I have been to see The Killers and Trans-Siberian Orchestra (separate concerts, of course), which were the very first two real concerts I've ever been to in all my fourteen years of life. I hope to go to another TSO concert next year, with my friends in tow, because they come near here a lot. I'll just keep an eye on ticketmaster to see when my luck is with me.

Ah man, you gotta get in one. Like Jake said. Moshpits are something else. Everybody is smiling, and hitting each other, and getting shoved ,and lost. Even wet if that bands feels like spraying you out.
I wouldn't say there's many moshpits at Slipknot concerts mainly because they're not fast enough. hard yes, but just not fast enough. Some songs are fast and moshibble but Slipknot is definetly not a moshing band.

I guess is easier to bash it on a person you don't know in the mosh pit because people bumping into you in stuff. I guess is what state of mind the music puts you in. My happpens to be in a playful and agressive play. I'm just a freak like that lol
I think I broke an arm once someone made me fall on the floor very hard. I few people stepped on my hair (i have long hair). So no one ever had a mosh pit incident?[/SIZE]

Y'see, we were there hours early. We were some of the very first people in the stadium. Right by the stage... So close, I could touch it. Once everyone else got in, though, I got smashed up against it and coudn't see half the time. Other than that, not major injuries. I did get many elbows in the ribs, though. And I got shoved back after about 30 minutes in. Meh. I couldn't see the rest of the time. I'm only 5"2'.

[SIZE=1]I only have a few incidents really. Some i don't even remeber yet i remeber the scar. Well that is the result of people bashing you into stuff half the time: loss of memory and scars. Yet either way is a very playful enviroment. Yes i have to say it is aggresive play yet still fun. I had a pin stuck in my pants which pierced my skin. I think it was from another person pants that had pins of them. That could have come from anyone. There were alot of pants like that in the mosh pit. (I have a wide collection of pants like that myself. Hehe)

Well there consider metal like Slipknot, Static X, Lacuna Coil, Killswicth Engage, Disturbed,Trivium and others i can't think of becuase I'm having a big mind block.
