My favorite anime series are Haibane Renmei and Trigun. (The fact that these are two of the extremely few anime that I have watched in entirety may have something to do with that.) They are completely unlike each other, but I enjoy them both.

Haibane Renmei starts out as something of a "slice of life" show. It takes place in a walled town, which no one is allowed to leave. A girl named Rakka arrives there, and learns that she is a "Haibane," a youth with wings and a halo. The series follows her as she slowly settles in to her new life.

It's very slow-paced, particularly during the first six episodes. Many, many things are left unexplained, and by episode seven the dark undertone of the series is plainly evident. It's very thought-provoking, and it's a wonderful thing to watch if you like theorising. There's no action, unless you count a scene or two in the very last episode.

Trigun, of course, is the same Trigun that everyone is already familiar with. It's action-packed, it's funny, and by the second half of the series, it even has a plot! Very exciting. Vash is endearing. I know Dags has said she doesn't care for the archetype ("awesome warrior/assassin goes hippie and won't kill anyone"), but I just finished watching the series with my friend and I quite enjoyed it.

I guess the only similarity the two shows have is that they both take a darker turn about halfway in. Anyway, I enjoyed them both.

I really like FullMetal Alchemist. I like how it has the whole modern yet antique-ish feel to it. The show also didn't create too many characters as to allow character development to occur (while there are some "pointless" characters, they are comic relief). Also, it doesn't have some rotating door of villians. In addition to all this, it kills off a main character, goes into religion and government corruption, and everything doesn't always turn out okay. It's a smart anime, unlike most of the stuff that's been pouring in lately, and that's why I like it.

I love Shaman King and Naruto and Fullmetal Alchemist and XXX Holic.
Shaman King: I love the characters (namely Faust-kun, Len-kun, and Jun-chan) and I like that whole thing to do with spirits. It sounds like it would be so cool to see ghosts! But that's manga wise. I despise the anime 'cause 4KIDS KILLED IT!!! RAWR!
Naruto: I like ninjas. They're all kick-butt and stuff. And Kakashi-sensei is funny! :animesmil
Fullmetal Alchemist: I like the way the plot works. It starts out when Ed-kun is fifteen and then it goes back and reviews everything that happened from when their mom died and it goes on from there. Hughes is funny! :animesmil
XXX Holic s cool 'cause it's kinda heavy, but Watanuki-kun is amusing: he shouts a lot. It's rather dark (I mean, I wonder how much black ink they use.) and I feel sorry for him the way that Yuko-chan makes him work.

I have to say it's Dragonball Z because it was what really got me interested in anime when I was 10. The action, the storyline, the animation, they're just great. Goku could beat anyone in a fight, hands down. It is the best. But no doubt I agree that Fullmetal Alchemist, Naruto, and Trigun are good, and I have not seen XXX holic or the other one. I still think Dragonball Z is the best in my opinion.:freak:

Okay, my fav. totally has to be Inuyasha.

Why? Simple. Besides being the first anime that I've ever gotten into, as well as the one to start my anime craze, it just happens to be the best anime I've seen...so far. Other reasons: Me and my best friend, together, own all the movies, in English, and most of the episodes from the series, also in English dub. I do have one question, although it seems kina stupid. Is there an Inuyasha manga around? If there is, how would I go about getting it? I love the movies and series, but manga has always been better, in my eyes, and I'd love to get my hands on any manga.

-Random

PS: I'm not trying to change the subject, I'm just curious.

My favorite anime... Hmm... This a tough one, but I'd probably say it's a tie between Spirited Away, Laputa, and Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro. I honestly can't think of anything bad about any of those movies. Honerable mentions go to Tokyo Godfathers (for it's excellent story, character development, and directing), Grave of the Fireflies (for being so damn sad and brilliant), Voices of a Distant Star (for sheer honesty of emotion and groundbreaking technical merit), and Mind Game (for amazing usage of experimental animation). Of those movies, I'd have to say I enjoyed Tokyo Godfathers the most. I'm anticipating it possibly becoming my absolute favorite after a few rewatches.

TV-wise, Fullmetal Alchemist is the highest quality. It's an extremely powerful story that exceeds it's source material in terms of suspense and excitement. Unfortunately, while the characters are very deep and have enough personality to draw the viewer in, the show itself is curiously lacking in personality at times, probably due to the weakness of the source material that the writers tried to avoid but couldn't escape from 100%. Because of this flaw, I tend to stick mostly with shows that are original stories, with exceptions made for shows as high-quality as FMA or have as unusually entertaining source material as something like Naruto. Unfortunately, TV animes that aren't based off of tie-ins are scarce, but they can be found. Cowboy Bebop is the most popular of these (and with good reason; it is one of my favorites), but Paranoia Agent and Kino's Journey are personal favorites of mine that I'll be pimping to no end until they somehow make the top 10 best-selling DVDs of all time. ;)

My favorite anime is Revolutionary Girl Utena. I won't weary you all by waxing eloquent about it yet again. However, I will mention that the entire thirty-nine episode series is currently being sold by the manufacturer for $99.95! That used to be the price of a single Utena box set (of which there are three). They're pricing down all of the individual box sets over the course of 2006, but it's still a nice way to get it all in one fell swoop. Unfortunately, the trailer included on that page is pretty horrendous--it's just random, uninformative clips playing over the worst song in the whole show. Bad CPM. *brandishes rolled-up newspaper*

Now that I think about it, the three trailers on this page are rather good, though. So if you're curious about Utena, watch those instead. :)

Anyway, that was my obligatory plug. Other top 10 all time blah blah blah favorites include Fafner, AIR TV, RahXephon, Kaleido Star and Full Moon wo Sagashite (which was recently licensed by Viz--woohoo!).

I want to talk about Princess Tutu, though. I can't say that the show is my second-favorite or third-favorite or anything like that, because I still haven't finished watching it. But it's the first anime since Utena to give me the feeling that I'm watching something really... meh, this sounds corny, but "magical" comes to mind. I love seeing Western fairy-tale themes in anime, and Princess Tutu has that to an even greater extent than Utena. I felt ambivalent about the content of the first DVD--simply because I went into it with such high expectations--but the second totally floored me. I almost couldn't believe how amazing it was.

The surreal atmosphere, the air of magic & mystery, the dark undercurrents, the fabulous English voice acting, the sheer elegance and loveliness of it all--pretty much everything in that second disc of Princess Tutu struck the right chord for me. It fulfilled the potential that was evident simply in the opening sequence. Many people have assured me that the show just gets better and better from there. Suffice it to say that I'm dying for the third DVD. Princess Tutu is something to keep an eye on, and unless it goes drastically wrong later on, it's definitely going to be high up on my favorites list.

My favourite anime series would be MABURAHO! Why you ask? (Even if you didn`t ask.. pretend you did hehe) Because it`s full of humour with a very deep story about a highschool guy and three girls who claims that they`re his wife living in a magical world. If you watch after episodes 10+, then things start to get more serious and really good. ^_^ I recommend it to people who are 13 years or older though.

My favorite anime of all time, huh? Dang, that's a tricky one, because I like a lot. But, when forced to settle on a single series, I'd have to say Samurai Champloo. Yes, I know that I haven't seen the entirety yet, but I can happily say that I don't think this series can do me any wrong.

My reasoning for liking this consists of a few different points:

I started watching the series at a point in time when I was getting fed up with my lack of knowledge over Japanese history. This series, while having little historical relevance, actually helped me pin point the date in a series of books I was reading, and vice versa. The late 1600's seems like a very interesting time, from what little I have gathered.

The animation style of this series is very fast passed, among the fastest I've seen, and I continue to be awed by Mugen's likeness to a rabid beast when he's fighting. The characters move, and move well. When walking they look like their walking. When running, they look like they're running. Beyond that, the animation is so realistic that it has a near photographic quality in some points, when I can't tell if it's an actual photo or a drawing.

The setting itself is also unique, because a complete amalgamation of today's hip hop culture and the culture of the 1600's is so different on a fundamental level that it works. There are anachronisms left and right, including everything from Jin's glasses to the moving crab legs on that restaurant, and it is fun to pick them out.

My final reason would be the characters themselves, because they seem so realistic that one would half expect to find them in the library or at the mall. And, like real people, I've yet to predict any of their actions.

There are others on my favorites list, but each of them may get a rant as long as the one above. So, both for space and sanity, I'll stop.

My favorite anime has been narrowed to 1 (took a while) and it's Ghost in the Shell:SAC and I mean both. (I always thought they were one in the same though but "shrugs") I haven't seen the whole series yet but it suckered me in. While I admit I probably still don't understand the full story but I will listen to every single word of it. (granted that I've never been into politics or secret services, fbi type things.)

I can't relate to any of the characters but it has a nice cast. None of them are annoying IMO. The action is top notch (when there isn't any dialogue) which is always a plus being the action fan that I am. I consider this to have the best animation out there. (I'm pretty close-minded about it too so it'll be hard to convince me until I see it ^_^)

What was knocked down to 2nd was Cowboy Bebop and then Hellsing and Yu Yu Hakusho.

I do agree with Stark about Samurai Champloo as well. The only reason I haven't said anything about it is because I want to see how it turns out before doing any high ranking on it. Mugen is absolutely hilarious.
When walking they look like their walking. When running, they look like they're running.
I actually found Mugen's running funny.... Arched back isn't really how people run atleast I haven't seen anybody run like that.

I love Tenchi Muyo. It has the perfect blend of romantic story, action, poor guy finding out the truth about himself, evil scientist, war, proyectiles. My favorite character Washu is really around 1000 years old and she looks like 10 years old, appearances deceive, its the best.

My pedestal anime is Rahxephon. The first time I viewed it, about two years ago, it got a somewhat lukewarm response from me, mostly because the last volume made no sense to me whatsoever. I rewatched the entire series about a year ago, and not only did the series as a whole make a lot more sense, but I appreciated the story and characters that much more because of it. Also, certain episodes had a greater emotional effect on me the second time around, surprisingly.

However, my favorite anime is Naruto, though it's more for fandom reasons than the show itself.

Well...

My favorite anime of all time is

BLUE GENDER- Mainly because the series shows human emotion at the most pivotel of times. When humanity is demolished and life is sacred. I love this series because of the darkness they put behind the bloodshed and how they can show human emotion so quickly. The creator had no problem allowing laughter and sexuality be apart of the action and gore. The Movie seems to be one of my favorite as well for it also shows humans and how they react at their weakest moments. And certainly we shall be the destruction of ourselves.

I'm very much attached to the series DNAngel. The manga more than the anime, though. It's just so entriguing to see what will happen next in each volume. Most of the volumes have ended in quite a dramatic cliffhanger. I'm talking about the manga. And plus, I love the way Sugisaki draws each character. When it comes to the anime, I am a bit disappointed. There are too many side-stories, but the last few discs go down to the basic plotline and gives a dramatic twists. I laugh and cry at the same time.
The end is rather bitter-sweet.
Another series I like is Princess Tutu. I have yet to finish the first season, but I like how it is its own fairy tale. And the music is beautiful. If someone loves the Nutcracker, they'll love the music for this because the music is it's own nutcracker twist.

The first anime I've watched to get me back into it is Fruits Basket. I laughed, I cried, and I definatly learned a lot of morals from it. There are so many quotes to quote out of the series and it's short, so far. Only four DVDs. Every single one seems to make me cry. I mostly like the 2nd DVD, when Ha'ri shares his story about what happened with him and Kana. This series gives me hope when I need it sometimes, as pathetic as it sounds. FullMetal Alchemist: Ed, I love the story line and it's just cool!
D.N.Angel: I liked the manga so I like the anime...though Risa is much more annoying in the anime.
Neon Genesis Evangelion: Though the ending was...different, I just really like the story line and characters...expecailly Karowu!! :animesmil

Fullmetal Alchemist is my favourite anime series of all time. It has many good points one of which is the ability to change the mood of the episode from hilarious to dramatic in the blink of an eye, I think this really helps move the show along at a nice pace. Episodes 13 and 37 are good examples of the comedy element of the show and they provide a nice break from the more serious episodes.
Some of the characters are used purely for comedic purposes, but with a show with as many bleak moments as this one you need all the laughs you can get.

Another point I like about the anime is the way it keeps you on the edge of your seat by being pretty unpredictable. When you think you have things worked out something happens that will make you change your whole theory. This I think is a very important factor because it keeps you hooked until the end of the series (much like Neon Genesis Evangelion). There are a few episodes that are used to be a break away from the main plot, and also leave you in suspence a little while longer but they don't distract you for too long.

The characters are also a plus point for the show because there are so many of them, chances are you'll find one you will be cheering for everytime he/she/it comes on screen. The characters are all very different, be they loyal (Alphonse, Roy's flunkies), obsessive over family (Hughes), ruthless (the sins) or short (Ed).
Even though Ed and Al are the main protagonist's of the anime we also see a lot of the other characters and get to see their view of everything that is happening.
The voice work is also very well done, matching the personalities of the characters perfectly. Although I can't decide which version's voice work is better, Japanese or English, they are both very well done.

The music is also awesome as it realy sets off the feeling of each scene, from dramatic to insane (Favourite Daughter). The second opening being the best anime intro I have seen, due vastly to the song Ready Steady Go by L'Arc~en~Ciel.

Anyways that's about it in a nutshell, if you havn't seen the anime yet you really should give it a look.
