My fave? Hmmm... As an Computer Engineering major, I'd say gundam seed and gundam seed destiny. It's an anime series any physics or engineering major must be hooked with. Why, look at the awesome technology!! But ironically, that's not the strongest point of the series. It lies on the depth of its characters, and yes- the story as well. And, in my opinion, it rocks when it comes to fast-paced animation and i think the best i've ever seen so far.
Also, Ruruoni Kenshin is among my list. It's a little historical, and the character of Kenshin (Battousai) pleases me!!!
Inu Yasha is one of my fave that i haven't watched thoroughly. The mere reason is that i admire Kagome :D .
Other anime that i really love to watch, hopefully: full metal alchemist (yup! haven't watched it) and bleach.
Comedy-wise, my fave is full metal panic fumofu?

I was first introduced to Anime, before I even knew what Anime was, when I first watched Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie at about age 8-9 I think. Bare in mind that this film is now 11 - 12 years old AND it's based on a game. And I'll be the first to admit that films based on games haven't really been well accepted (Save maybe Advent Children but meh) but SF for me is a work of genius.

The animation in this film is incredible to me now and then. It has just the right amount of action expected of a film based on a Beat 'Em Up, without screwing up the plot. I love the voice actors as well, they all do an awesome job (Especially the voice of Bison).

I also owe a lot to DBZ, despite realising that it may not be THE best after watching others, it started me on my Anime journey and I'm still pretty sure that Vegeta is my favourite Anime character.

Anyway, I'm moving from the question. My anime viewing is highly limited because of where I live (and because Toonami here in the UK is absolute Shíte) But I have watched a few of the well known anime's. I'm quite fond of Outlaw Star, it was shown on CN a year or so back and after it (along with most of the other anime's) was taken off, I had to buy the series for myself.

It's gritty and deals more with life. Like, just because they have THE greatest ship the galaxy has known, it doesn't make them invincible and they still have to worry about parking fees and such. Much like Fullmetal and EVA, Outlaw Star has a good range of serious and silly moments, easily switching between the two with little to no difficulty. Again, I really like the voice actors for this series and most (if not all) of the voices suit their character to the ground.

As mentioned above, I'm also a fan of FMA (highly anticipating the release of the movie!) and it's great characters. Now, I watched FMA all the way through in Japanese to begin with and grew quite attached to the voices, but after having watched a few english episodes, I'm warming up to the english actors (not forgetting that Armstrong is done by good ole' Chris Sabat!).
And despite the fact that characters die left and right in this series
it still gives for plenty of time to like characters and really feel
sad when one of them is killed off.
I really do love all the characters in this series and when I got to the last few episodes I really felt for each of them and their combined and individual problems.

And I must say (Despite most people's opinion) I really like both the series ending and the EoE ending for Evangelion. Each has their own charm (The movie going for the more kick *** action style) but I like them both equally. I really liked the strength of each of the female characters (despite what happens to them during the late stages of the series) and connect strongly with all of them (despite being a guy).

One thing I have forgotten to mention is that in each of the above three series, I can't remember one episode when the quality of animation dropped below anything short of excellent. For series as long as these (FMA especially) I think that's incredible and I take my hat off to the creators.

Ok, I've rambled on for a while now so...yeah.

Well, I kinda have two favorite anime, so i'll give reasons for both:

Ghost In The Shell (Both TV Series And Both Movies): This anime I like because, especially in the movies, the art is more detailed than most animes, giving it a completely different feel. Also, it always keeps you thinking, cuz most of the time the one responsible for a certain crime really isn't human and could long since be gone. Just the wierdness of the series keeps me watching too.

Love Hina: This series I like because it's pretty much about every day life, and some of the crazy events a Keitaro Urashima goes through. The music's good too, mixes a bunch of styles into one series, and the music is also some of my favorite. The manga of this series is a bit better because it goes into more depth with the story, and i like Ken Akamatsu's style (I just like it, no particular reason).

FLCL. Yeah, I like all of the crazy wacky insane stuff, but looking past that, you can see that this anime has one of the best storylines of any anime, and the charachters are awesome. Not to mention the music...

I can't really decide between Angel Sanctuary & Chobits.
I love both of them so much, I like Angel Sanctuary because the story is really good and its pretty. I like Chobits because its cute, the story is weird, and its funny.
