It looks good for your first banner, i just finished mine not to happy with it. let me guess you used a brush for the words and the gradient tool for the color.

EDIT: I forgot to rate it sorry.
4 out of 5

I merged these two posts, due to fact that the second post was rather bland as a simple rating. ;) We ask for constructive criticism in each post, and numbers by themselves don't cut it. -Syk3

For a first banner, It is well done. First off: The picture is of decent quality-- No picture distortion (Common among first banners). Next we have the other 75% of the banner. Which is all gray. However! I am pleased with fading between the picture and the gray filling. So atleast it isn't just a block of gray off to the side, but it appears to be a part of the picture to make it a whole. Lastly we have the text. Which is quite large, but acceptable, seeing as there is a great amount of space to use up. The text appears a tad on the blurry side. Nice drop shadow, though.
Keep trying!

The first banner is fine. I mean, it could be better, but since it's your first, it's quite nice. I echo with what Stuart said.

But then there comes the second...

I mean, the first thing that popped into my head was "No. Just...no." Because, quite simply, it looks like it was made in MS Paint. After your first banner, I'm surprised that you made this. The picture on the left is quite pixely, and the one on the right is distorted.
The font's okay. The font face itself is fine, but the colors hurt. o.O;; Oi.

But what you really need to do is sit down one day and see what all the "Layer Effects" can do. Then you get to create the ever-nifty glows, gradient overlays, pattern overlays, drop shadows, inner shadows...XD

(Sheesh, you people! It's like - RAPID FIRE POSTING AWAY!)
