2010DigitalBoy
Most people have a banner and text also in their sig. I was wondering if it's possible to instead put an image that is just text instead of text. For example, if I were to make a totally sweet image out of the words in my sig that took up the same amount of space anyway, why not use it? But also, perhaps we could have multiple images but the overall size of out sig could be regulated. Some people have some really huge sigs and using images would take the same amount of space, but of course we'd want it to be smaller for example, why not make our sigs a maximum of, say, this size ___________________________________________________________________ | | | | | | | And we could have just whatever in this area. Makes sense far as I can say. After | all, some sigs are just way huge, and they should really be condensed. | | | |___________________________________________________________________
Dragon Warrior
I considered this. As you can see in my sig, it's a menu. I wanted to make a Final Fantasy-based menu system where each buttons actually linked to the thread. It was a nifty idea, but against the rules. So I just have what I have. Baron Samedi
Bandwidth considerations for those unfortunate people on dialup. Larger images increase page load time to an extent that can be unbearable for people on slower connections. Text is nothing in comparison, lol. And of course you can make a banner that is just text. Just make sure it is 500x100 ;)
Desbreko
Baron pretty much summed it up. If we let people have multiple images even if they didn't take up much space, you know what would happen? We'd get people with a few really long animated gifs in their signatures, adding hundreds of kilobytes for people to download. And I know it would happen because I've had to remove images like that from some people's signatures when they stuck more than one in. So it's not just about the dimensions of the images, but also the file size. The same issue arises when you use an image in place of text. Text is miniscule in size compared to an image that takes up the same amount of space on the page. If a bunch of people had a banner and an image for their text, the size of pages as a whole would skyrocket and, as Baron said, make browsing OB on a 56k connection unbearable. So that's why we stick with the one image, maximum 500x100 pixels, rule. You can use that for text if you'd like, but you have to give up your regular banner for it.
2010DigitalBoy
Are we allowed to have multiple images adding up to 500X100?
Sara
Nope, I'm afraid not. One image with maximum dimensions...not dimensions with multiple images.
