cancer
Alright, I really want to learn how to dance. I don't know why, I just do. I think it would be fun to learn to dance (plus I'd get more exercise, which is always good right, lol?). So does anyone have any advice on how I learn to dance, because I have no clue where to begin. I don't want to take dance lessons or buy videos or anything. I want something simple; I don't care to learn a bunch of detailed dance routines, just simple stuff. For example, I'd love to be able to do the robot ^_^ Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks. renayiiq
Well, for starters, find a friend who can dance, and who would take the time to teach you. Secondly, shake what your mama gave ya. :animesmil
Delta
Yep, yep. Dancing's insanely fun and it's a pretty useful skill to have. One surefire way to get close to my prospects/prey without setting off their absolute terror fields. Mmm hmm. First time you're on the dancefloor, you'll think dancing is really hard 'cause there's suddenly this huge wide coordination gap between your brain and limbs. Even if you don't forget all them dance moves you carefully mapped out in your brain, they won't look as nice as when you say Ms. Spears shake it on TV. A million to one, you'll end up with your booty literally on the dancefloor. Congratulations, you've successfully faked an epileptic seizure. Fortunately, atrocious dancing can be remedied by practice, practice and, what do you call it? Ah yes, practice. It's not like people were born dancing, yeah? Watch, imitate, develop, perfect. Preferably in front of a mirror. Mental practice alone won't cut it, you gotta work on your co-or-di-na-tion. That way, you can do them choreographed production numbers you've always dreamed up in your head. If you can't remember everything I've written in the previous paragraph, just repeat this to yourself: Own it. Have oodles of fun in the dancefloor. And if shaking your booty still doesn't get them happy hormones going, then I give you the permission to go insane. (Ah yes. Especially when something slow's on and you've no one to cuddle up with. I remember prancing around with a very gay friend in a mock interpretative dance/ballet-gone-wrong 'round them couples at the prom. Precious, precious moments indeed.) And yeah, the robot dance is timeless. Just remember to lock your muscles, loosen your joints and fake a dumb look.
Lotica
Congratulations, you've successfully faked an epileptic seizure.
(still laughing) Put on some music that you really like that has a nice and steady dance beat. Do it when your alone (so you don't need to be self conscious) and stand in front of a (preferably) full length mirror and practice moving your body to the music without moving your feet at first. By the time you don't look so bad to yourself dancing; you won't look so bad to others. Then, to quote renayiiq, "shake what your mama gave ya." cancer
Thanks, everyone, I guess that helps? So where's the best place to learn those choreographed moves? Would a dance video like Napoleon Dynamite used be helpful, lol? I'm sure that you all remember that scene from Napoleon Dynamite, and if you haven't seen it then shame on you. Thanks again. Is there like a website for dance moves?
Liam
Yes! D-Kwan's Dance Grooves! There's not really a whole lot to it. 75% of Dancing is confidence, 25% is not falling over/on other people. Granted, I grew up in the 80s, so I grew up breakdancing. I guess that made it easy for me. I guess for you, Just stand in front of a mirror, and move around. If you don't think you look like a total idiot, your atleast headed in the right dirrection. Going out to the clubs noadays I can tell you for the most part(atleast in the indie clubs that I go to) no one's really doing the same thing. Just try not to look like a tard and you'll do fine. Ok, I was kidding about the rap vid bit, but chances are that if you want to learn how to dance, you're gonna probably have to go to google and type "how to dance videos" or "dance videos." It works, usually. If not, get something like Morpheus. Still no luck? Find some friends who will be happy to teach you.
visualkei
Raya, I think you offered some good advice there. The epileptic part was pretty honest and funny. =D I would give similar advice, to dance by yourself, until you think you've gotten the hang of it. If you're ready to strut your stuff in public, then go to a club with a friend. Pick a place depending on what kind of music you like. The last time I went to a club and danced must have been 7 years ago or so, and I was uneasy and felt rusty about dancing, but I wanted to go to a club over the winter break. I went to an unusual club. It was ghetto, dirty, gothic/retro, and filled with freaks and geeks. And it had to be the best club experience I've had! Not that I've been to many clubs. =] When I first stepped in I was like "man this place is kinda crappy..." It's supposed to be a laid back place with no attitudes or dresscode. After that, everything was hella fun and we stayed til closing time. They played retro and electronica all night with few popular dance songs and some recognizable bands such as Franz Ferdinand and The Postal Service. I think the best part about the club is it's not crowded, no one's trying to be cool, and you can dance however you want because the person behind you is an even worse dancer. There was this guy there that could've battled with Napoleon Dynamite =P. After that I don't think I want to go back to places that play mainly hip-hop music. So yeah, I'd recommend you try somewhere that has a laid back reputation. The thing about clubs is there's always loud music and flashy lights, so no one's really paying attention to how bad a dancer you are. Or, you have the allusion of thinking that... Oh, and I finally lived my dream of doing the robot with my friend on the dance floor not to mention some other stuff. =D. Yeah, it's lame, but it's the fun that matters. cancer
I'm a dude just so everyone knows, haha. Yeah, I think you're right about confidence being a key factor in the dancing, and also having fun. Having fun is important =)
