Alright, I'm not sure who all listens to Cradle of Filth here, but if you do listen to them, could you tell me what you think their best songs are? I have only heard Nymphetamine and I love it, and I need a list of their really good songs so that I can get their good songs. Thanks ^_^

Haha, I really don't listen to this sort of music, it tends to grind my brain to a pulp. The only song I like by them is Nymphetamine because it's sort of a one off where they used a more 'normal' female vocalist so the song resembled Nightwish. It's a good song, but I don't think it summarizes them as a whole, from the snippets I've heard.

Don't expect all of their songs to be like like Nymphetamine. That, at least in my opinion, is their only really good song on their new album. I haven't heard their old stuff, but I heard that it was equally lackluster. Dani has an interesting voice, but it sounds bad live, and the band just doesn't seem that talented as a whole to me. It's more of an image thing in my eyes.

Just a couple noteworthy songs you might wanna look into:
-Saffron's Curse
-Hallowed be Thy Name
-Tearing the Veil from Grace
-Mr. Crowley (original by Ozzy Ozzbourne)
-Devil Woman

I recently purchased their Album Lavecraft and Witch Hearts. A lot of the songs seem slightly...off-beat. Certainly 'Nymphetamine' was a one-time style for them. Dani really does about 99.8% of the 'singing', the woman's more of a cameo of sorts.

Doesn't stop them from being up there with Iced Earth and Children of Bodom on my 'favorite three bands' list.

Ah Cradle of Filth is awesome even for us crazy nu metal-heads. Oh and by the way, the girl in the Nymphetamine song is Liv Kristine and she's worked with the bands Atrocity, Heavenwood, and Embra et Amigo. She's also been in the bands Theatre of Tragedy and Leaves Eyes.
Anyhow, my favorite album is "Bitter Suites to Succubi" just because I can enjoy every song on there. Songs like All Hope In Eclipse, No Time to Cry, and Born in the Burial Gown are friggin wicked sounding.

As for their newer stuff. I dunno. Nymphetamine was good but it just didn't sound like the Cradle I listen to. I wouldn't suggest going around saying you love Nymphetamine, it's a good way to make others think your some sort of "poser"

Has anyone seen the episode of Viva La Bam when Dani shows up and plays a show for them and Vito and Dunn are running around in NY from Bam? It's hilarious!

But yeah. Cradle is a very talented band.

Cradle of Filth is... interesting, to put it mildly. I only have Nymphetamine, like you, but my favorites off of that one are... well, I guess I have to say "favorite" because I only really like English Fire off of that album. I respect how poetic they can be, but it's definitely an image thing with CoF.

If you like them, I would perhaps suggest some of Dimmu Borgir's later albums, such as Death Cult Armaggedon and Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia. Man, those are two hella Black-Metal album titles.

Of course, if you like Nymphetamine because of the female singer in it, I would recommend some Goth Metal bands like Draconian, Epica, Lacuna Coil, and Rain Fell Within.

Well, anyways, that's my two cents' worth.

^^^HAHA!!! Very, very well put, childofthemorgu.

But anyway, if you like the album Nymphetamine, you might as well stop there. It's their best album (IMO), and it's a new direction for their sound. Their previous stuff probably won't please you too much. If you HAVE to buy more, get the album Midian. Beyond that, don't even bother. Seriously.

Actually everything they've ever released is horrible. If you want to invest your money get the one CD that is worth buying that these people keep failing to mention. Vempire or Dark Faerytales in Phallustein, (which only has two real decent songs on it) this is not even a full length CD it is an EP. Other then that their new CD is their worst effort next to Damnation and a Day.

Oh yeah Iced Earth isn't, considerably, all that great either.

Cradle of Filth? I've only ever heard 2 of their songs. The first was Her Ghost In The Fog. Fairly long, OK guitars, TERRIBLE vocals.

Then there was the even longer Hallowed Be Thy Name. Rockin guitars, enough to inspire 7 minutes of headbanging, vocals are Okay if your into that sort of thing. ZERO browny points for being a remake of an Iron Maiden song. I think both versions are equally cool.

You all say the vocals are terrible... But I'm willing to bet everything I own that none of you can produce the same vocals as Dani. It's much harder than you think. It's not just senseless screaming, it takes a lot of tuning and practicing to be able to do it. Then try doing it for a three hour concert.

I love Cradle of Filth. I'm into a lot of Death and Black Metal. It's a taste not everybody has, but blatantly insulting it is naïve in my opinion. To you it sounds like a jumble of instruments and screaming, but take this into consideration.

Death/Black Metal has been renowned by numerous composers as some of the most theoretical and technical music ever created.

Many Death/Black Metal bands use entire orchestras and choirs to create their music.

Most of the vocalists sing opera to help tune their vocals.

The last time Hit Parader (Famous rock magazine) listed the ten greatest guitar players of all time, seven out of the ten were Death and Black Metal guitarists.

A lot more work goes into than you think. Compared to punk, emo, alternative, or any of the other stuff you listen to - there is a lot more substance to it than those.

Firstly, I know Dani's voice is quite amazing in respect to its vocal range. Vocal range can be a very important aspect to singing and shows a considerable amount of talent. But you need to consider the fact that, that the talent he may have is being squandered and wasted. He can sing and their is no doubt of this but his vocals as far as Cradle of Filth go lack inspiration or talent, sure he can produce an amazing range but it does nothing for the music when it does not have proper tone and the range of his voice is destroying the song as it is.

A perfect example of a metal band with an amazingly high vocalist who keeps tone and power in his voice, this is and considerably takes amazing talent to do I am sure, is King Diamond. This man can do some of the highest vocals I have quite literally seen from a male in almost any Metal Music. It is amazing that he does not ruin the music he sings over, but it is definitely an acquired taste and certainly worth the wait.

I admit I cannot sing like Dani Filth but I can tell you from my own personal experience I chose to sing Her Ghost in the Fog for Karaoke in my Chamber Choir class and actually succeeded at it so that tells me something. Now it was a bit of a stretch to actually bring such a song into the class and sing it but I was willing to take my chances and succeeded with a decent amount of marks as well.

Secondly, Cradle of Filth to a mind that is educated about Death and Black Metal would ultimately never come of as either of these two genres to their ears. There is much to much an element of just pure heavy metal that incorporates keyboard into most of their composition. This expands to make them an outfit that is heavy metal band with quite harsh vocals with gothic like keyboards that really do nothing for their music as it makes them seem quite hollow, nothing seems to be beyond what is played right there and then. While talented Death and Black Metal bands will leave you wanting something more and let you read between the lines of their music to find things that you may have not noticed before. Cradle of Filth does not do this and adheres to the mainstream category of metal and only produces to make money not music.

Thirdly, many Death Metal bands do not use choirs or orchestras in their respective music as it does not apply to their style of playing at all. In fact I cannot recall a Death Metal band of the top of my head right now that uses a Choir or Orchestra. As for Black Metal bands this is still not exactly an everyday occurrence and it usually will only be seen taking place in Symphonic Black Metal. You have to remember is not Dimmu Borgir. Dimmu Borgir was Symphonic Black Metal with their very first two albums which have do not a choir nor an orchestra playing with them. Dimm Borgir after Stormblast was never a black metal band again. A very good example of bands that incorporate Choirs and Orchestras would be Therion or Haggard.

Most of the vocalists in Black and Death metal do not sing in Opera. Vocalists in Progressive and Power metal are the ones who sing true Opera to improve their voice, Hansi Kürsch of Blind Guardian for example or Russell Allen of Symphony X. These two vocalists both have truly amazing talent.

Fourthly, Hit Parader is not exactly a magazine that has any real knowledge on Black and Death Metal, I just did some investigation on that. If this is the magazine that you gather your information from on these two genres then you need to look for a better magazine. Especially if they have articles on bands that are not even close to metal let alone metal bands that are not close to the Black Metal or Death Metal genre. With articles about Slipknot and Nirvana it does not bode well for this magazine to be explaining Death and Black Metal.

Fifthly, the only thing I do agree with you on is the work load that is involved with making this music. It takes a lot of effort to make Black and Death metal sound quite decent.

^^^Since Amorphous is, as always, completely correct about everything, I cannot add much to this discussion.

I would like to suggest you check out the magazine Metal Maniacs for serious information on Death and Black Metal, as well as everything else. This is by far the best Metal magazine I've ever read, and I've loved every issue. Hit Parader is a very mainstream rock magazine. Very, VERY rarely do they ever feature Metal. I think you'll find that Metal Maniacs will fill that little void that Hit Parader has been leaving you with.

THE BEST RESOURCE, however, is Metalcrypt.com. They have reviews on countless Metal albums from every corner of the spectrum, informative genre guides, interesting/hilarious editorials - they have everything. This site has been my #1 source for finding bands for me to check out, and I'm greatful for it. At least give it a check - it's an amazing site.

Yah, Metal maniacs is indeed the greatest for your death/black needs. Metal Edge is great too but it revolves around a broader range of genre's including some punk, emo, and nu metal bands.

Anyhow, back to Cradle of Filth. I've never really minded Dani's voice although I can agree that it sticks out. The first time I listened to the band though, I was more overtaken by how much just listening to it made the hairs on the back of my neck stick up. The overall mood Cradle puts across is extremely effective at get people just alert and on the edge.

Just don't go around claiming that the band is serious death metal or black metal. You've got to remember that not all your sources are as reliable as you believe them to be.
