2010DigitalBoy
Hey, I haven't heard much music compared to a lot of you guys, but recently I've been searching for the perfect guitar solo. What's your alltime favorite guitar solo? My favorite is either the one from Rain, off the Cowboy Bebop album, or the one from Bat Country by Avenged Sevenfold. Both are great, albeit not particularly long like some metal guitar solos.
Rhym
Oh, holy crap. Guitar solos. Don't get me started. I'll start anyways. Kissing the Shadows - Children of Bodom I love Children of Bodom. They're an immensely talented band, with the triple whammy of Alexi Laiho on lead guitars, Janne Wirman on keyboards, and Roope Latvala on backing guitars. This song is great, until it reaches about the two-minute mark. Then it becomes amazing. The rest of the song is just one huge three-way dueling solo between those three. Considering that the song is 4:32 total, that's a lot of solo. On a related note to CoB... The Evil that Warmen Do - Warmen This is a band created by Janne Wirman, solely, it seems, to show off how flippin' AMAZING he is at keyboards. Almost all of their songs are instrumentals, with a few having vocalist cameos. Janne is just too unbelievably good for words. Give it a listen. Dialogue With The Stars - In Flames This is a three-minute instrumental, and it's pretty much all solo. In Flames is an amazing band. If you're looking for more killer guitar solos, check out the In Flames thread and get the albums that Jakehammaren recommends. This song just happens to be a personal favorite of mine because it was the first truly metal song I had ever heard. It's a beautiful song, full of shredding riffs, soaring harmonies, and acoustic bridges. Give it a listen. Disciples of Hell - Yngwie Johann Malmsteen Pretty much, Yngwie invented shredding. This song is a classic, because it sounds like the singer says "Pointy dagger guy" in it. Well, alright, and also because of the friggin' amazing guitar work. If you want another song of his with a shreddin' solo in it, check out Braveheart. Yngwie is awesome, give him a listen. Fury of the Storm - DragonForce I think I'm gonna have to say that DragonForce is the best band ever. No one plays faster than them while retaining their god-like level of technicality. One of my deepest regrets is that I have an incomplete version of this song. It cuts out in mid-solo, which is tragedy, considering how amazing the solo is. Another awesome song of theirs is Soldiers of the Wasteland. Check them out. This is not a suggestion, this is an order. Holy Thunderforce - Rhapsody Luca Turilli is an immensely talented guitarist. He is master of the "sweep arpeggio" technique, which is an extremely advanced guitar move. Pretty much any of Rhapsody's songs will have a jaw-dropping guitar solo in it, and Luca's also done some solo albums, which are also tremendously awesome. Wolf & Raven - Sonata Arctica Sonata is one of my favorite bands, I have to say. This song is really fast for them. Not as fast as DragonForce, but no one is as fast as DragonForce. It has a chorus that begs for you to sing along as well as a solo that begs for you to air guitar along. Great band. Listen to any album but Reckoning Night which, sadly, was a load of crap compared to their early works. But Ecliptica, Silence, and Winterheart's Guild are still awesome. Lai Lai Hei - Ensiferum Viking Metal at its finest. If DragonForce wasn't already the best band ever, I might have to say that it was Ensiferum. Every ounce of their music just screams out at you to recognize how badass it is, and you have to. This song, Lai Lai Hei, is just a work of art, plain and simple. It starts out slow and acoustic, playing beautiful melodies on mandolin-sounding instruments. It switches to electric guitar/bass lines, but is still the same speed. Then, it changes gears, from neutral to turbo. Um, if that makes sense at all, I'm not really a car person. It gets so fast, and so amazingly badass! And then the guitar solo happens and your jaw hits the floor. These guys kick it hardcore. Give them a listen before they take it from you. Those are all the badass solos I can think of right now. I know I've forgotten some. I'll be sure to post them when I remember them.
Albert Flasher
Without even a little doubt, the final few minutes of the song Layla by Derek and the Dominos (aka Eric Clapton). It is just such an amazing guitar solo. Eric Clapton is one of the greatest guitarists of all time and this is proof. A pure classic. Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb, Jimi Hendrix's All Along the Watchtower, Jethro Tull's Auqalung, Dire Strait's Sultans of Swing and Money for Nothing, and Rush's La Villa Strangaito are also absolute masterpieces.
Linkk
Being a huge music lover I have tons. But here's one of my favorites. The solo in " Revelation ( Mother Earth) of the Ozzy Osbourne album Blizzard of Ozz. This powerful solo by Randy Rhoads is just awesome. The song starts off kinda slow. Near the end BAM! It forcefully rocks out! I use to not like this song too much. But now I do and the solo is the best part and the reason I listened to it even when I wasn't big on it. There's about 5 seconds of Plant ssheeeeredding his guitar, but I don't think that's really considered a solo with all the other music going in the background. Still, good suggestion for a song in general :animesmil While I'm in the area: Ritchie Blackmoore's solo in Deep Purple's Highway Star is absolutly sick, Neil Young's solo in Cortez the Killer is mind-blowing, and Steve Vai's in For the Love of God is intense. John
Mm. I think I've got this one: Boredom by Buzzcocks. What's so great about it is that it's a full 30 second solo, but it only consists of two notes played over and over again. XD Just to see how awesome it is, click here to download it. TheShinje
My favourite solo would have to be in "Money" by Pink FLoyd. That is one excellent guitar solo, I mean, the whole songs is just, worth it, because of it.
Albert Flasher
Wait, wait, wait... This is no longer a suggestion. This is an order. Get Neil Young's Cortez the Killer. Absolutly the best guitar solo, and it lasts for 90% of the song so it's even better (Song is 5 min about).
Jakehammaren
The solo at the end of KISSING THE SHADOWS by Children of Bodom. It's my favorite solo because although it's almost 2 minutes in length, it never gets boring. Not only that, but solo battles between incredible guitarists and amazing keyboardists are always sweet. Amorphous
I am not very good for remembering solos because most solos just do not stick out all that much to me. The only solo that I can think of at the moment is on Bathory's - A Fine Day to Die. The solo is by all standards the speediest and most well done solo I've really heard in a very long time. In all honesty this one sticks out in my head and is by far an excellent piece of compostion. Seriously though I am sure there are other good Solo's out their I just cannot remember them. Shi no Tenshi
Mostly anything by Molly Hatchet or Dream Theater. 'The Journey' is a particularly good one by MH, and I really can't think of one for DT off the top of my head. 'The Way it Used to be' is my favourite song by them, but I can never remember if there's a solo in there somwhere.
