The newest Budokai game released for the PS2, DBZ: Budokai Tenkaichi is an excellent fightying-style game that puts a twist on what you would normally be used to.

Instead of a petit arena-type fight, Tenkaichi introduces many new aspects such as a much, much larger area to fight in, flying is made much easier, you start off as which ever form of the character you want (as long as he/she is unlocked) and the brawls just look overall much better than before.

This is one of the only fighting games where you don't get bored watching your friend face a computer since the fights look a lot like what they do in the show. The game also gives you many more characters to choose from, this includes GT characters like Baby Vegeta.

Basically there is no real story. But you do go back into "Shenron's Memories" and play through all the sagas (and extras), which can be quite entertaining.

Although I do not own a PlayStation 2, my friend did rent this for his and we play it non-stop. As soon as he has to return it, he plans on buying it.

What are your thoughts on it?

Ramen_Mido, could you possibly try and elaborate on your posts a little further in the future? Get into aspects such as why you prefer Budokai 3, or why Tenkaichi isn't as good or up to your standard. Stuff like that.

Anyway, Since Budokai 2 came out, I've been crazy about these new Dragonball installments. I haven't played Tenkaichi yet, but I plan on doing so -- having in-game battles that compare to the anime sounds awesome.

One thing I really like about these games though are the wide range of characters available, even if some actually have the same fighting styles as others. I guess from a narrative point of view, a massive range of characters would really attract die hard DBZ fans. Regardless, the main charms of the game, as I remember, came from linking heavy combos with trademark special moves. Even though it gets a little repetitive after a while, it's still eye-candy, and almost everyone is easily impressed upon seeing them.

The story line has always sucked, so I'm not expecting much from that end. Plus, it can get horribly frustrating at times too (
Kid Buu!
).

Sorry Il elaborate more. I thoguht it would be obivious why I prfer Budokai 3 to Tenkaichi and that would be the camera system. Its been completly reworked in case you havent played it the camera is behind your chacter(like ZOE vs mode). Its pretty cool but it dosent feel like a Budokai game. Budokai 3 was an amzaing game Budokai 1 and 2 were garbage especialy the story modes. I havent played Tenkaichis story mode so I have a question is it like Budokai 3 fly around find Dragonballs and fight or is it completely differnt?

To answer your question, story mode is pretty much fighting. A little montage at the start and the end to wrap it up. The fighting is VERY fast paced and it?s as if you?re right beside the character you?re playing as. You can hide from your opponents, sneak up on them if they don?t notice you, and better yet, you can JUMP this time around. And FLY whenever you want to! You do have to find the Dragonballs to unlock special stuff. They?re in the battlefield, usually hidden by smash-able objects. Ex:
The main building on Kami?s Lookout
. You can only get them in Story mode though.

Now for my personal opinion?there is only one thing wrong with it?lip syncing and voice acting. When you go to do Krillian?s Destructo Disc, his mouth opens and closes rapidly instead of staying open. That?s the only real fault?and the fact that they got rid of Bardok?s Riot Javelin technique?meh, but it is STILL a kick arse game!

The characters in DBZ: BT are amazing. You start with a lot of characters and can continue to unlock at least 30 more. There are three different ways to get characters aswell (Dragon Balls, Beating Something and Fusing Items) so unlocking characters can be quite fun. I was thurally impressed with how many different fighting styles there were aswell.

Yeah, unfortunately he is quite frustrating in Tenkaichi too.
You have to last 60 seconds against him as Hercule
. So you can see why that would be hard.

I recently bought the game and have been completely obsorbed by it. I spend a good two to three hours a day now playing it. The arenas are so much more expansive and things feel so fast and hectic that it always feels like your opponent is right on top of you. There is no lag, or at least none I experienced, which is great for such a fast paced experience. In some of the later battles and more advanced modes the enemies become almost frustratingly hard. The difficulty is something that really impressed me. They never seem impossible, they just seem radically difficult.

The chacter roster is impressive but most chacters flat out suck like Hercule and Android 17. Another thing I found cheap and is in every Budokai game is making Goku to powerful. I know hes the best in the show but half the chacters in the game cant beat him once you unlock his higher super saiyan forms. Same goes for Vegeta but whatever. I can get past this they just have made each chacter a little more equal. My favorite chacter would be
Broly
.

My favourite character from DBZ has always been Goten. And so, when my friend challenged me to a duel (SSJ4 Goku vs Normal Goten) I just had to accept. Like you, my friend thought that just because he was SSJ4 Goku he would win, but he didn't. I really don't think that Goku is much better then any other character. It all depends on what kind of characters you are good at using.

Notice I said half cant beat Goku. Goten is an extremely good chacter to begin with.
Im saying chacters like Hercule dont stand a chance against Goku(unless you flat out suck). Im saying they should even up the chacters making chacters like Videl enoguh to face Goku.

Hmm... At 1st I had high hopes for this game but when I actually rented it, it was a complete let down from Budokai 3. One person mentioned the camera was horrible or something of that sort. And I have to agree with that. I do not like fighting games where the camera is behind you. Especially by the rocks.

Another problem I had with the game is the cheap tactic with the guard breaking. (I think it was the O button where you'd hold it or something like that) Kid Buu abused it like crazy. (And I know it was to make him the final boss but damn.) I don't like how they changed the control setup either. They were very sluggish. The timing after a button was pressed is slow. (similar to Final Bout)

What else? The characters. I like, but I don't like the wide variety of characters. If you're going to include characters make sure to include every character instead of adding upgraded versions of a character. (The idea of playing as 5 different Goku's........) I was also disappointed in the story mode of this one. Budokai 3 went all the way to that Shenron thing, but skipped a few stories, while this one went through little bits of GT's story (don't get me wrong, I don't like GT either) but left Shenron out completely.

I did like the intro to this though. I guess that's plus. Graphics were okay, but I was expecting a little bit of an upgrade after watching the intro. *Sighs* I was disappointed at that as well. Oh well. Outside of the intro, there was nothing I really liked about this one.
