Ellerby
Yeah, good luck to me. I'll need it. Haha, but good luck to you too. I was thinking up my own theme and came up with the opposite of my only other typography piece. So, I'll call this one [hate]. I'm not sure if it's cluttered or just not visible enough. Heh, without the slashes it looks like a T-Shirt saying. EDIT: I hate you, Retri. :animesigh

Aaryanna
White: I really like the saying for your piece. I like how you have the description over the word hate in the background. I also like the font you used for both the description and the word hate, they go really well together. What I don?t like is that there is too much blank space, it kind of distracts from the main picture in the center. And though the slanted lines in the background do look good they just make the main words seem off. Still I like the dark feeling it portrays. Retribution: I like the placement of the main word politik over the numbers 06. I?m not sure if you are trying to indicate that politics are in a constant state of degrading or not, but it does go well with the color and background. What I don?t like is that the words in the back are bunched together and in some cases overlap. It makes it extremely difficult to read any of it. I find that distracting. Overall I like the use of space as it does seem to flow well. Now for my choice. I vote for Retribution since I think their piece makes better use of the available space. Excellent work, both of you. ^_^
Horendithas
White: Like Aaryanna I really like the saying. I especially like the placement of the words as having hate in the background just emphasizes that hate is always there underneath it all. I also like the choice of font for both hate and the top saying. The biggest thing I don?t like is all the extra space, it really is distracting to have all the empty space both above and below it. Take the extra space away and I would say it fits together perfectly. Retribution: The thing that sticks out the most is the excellent contrast of white and blue. It really makes the words stand out. I also like the placement of the word politik and the numer 06. Its crisp and clean and draws your attention to it. The main problem I have with your piece is the pink o in politik, I don?t care for the color. I also don?t like how the words in the background overlap. With so little of it being readable it makes it harder to understand what they are suppose to represent. I vote for White. Both pieces are beautifully done but I like the dark feel to White?s piece a little better.
John
White: The picture is very confined, and as the others said, the black space on the top and bottom really should've been filled up with something. Something along these lines could have worked with another theme, but yours centers around hate being something that "demands action", and the piece is far too simple and subdued to demand any action, heh. While I'm on the subject of the text, though, yours is the first I've seen in any typography piece that I've ever liked, and I do like it quite a lot. This is especially surprising since it's on the theme of hatred, lol. That was the big plus of your piece for me. Retribution: The pink "o" does add some necessary color to the piece, but frankly I would have considered adding that color some other way. I've got a pet peeve against coloring one letter of text differently for no apparent reason, I guess. XP Other than that, I likes a lot. Contrary to what Aaryana and Indifference said, I like the overlapping text in the background. From my judgement, the whole point of that text was that you weren't really supposed to be able to read it all, or to care about reading it all; just a bunch of political trash and lies, all of which sort of overlaps and meshes into one big, useless mishmash. The down-pointing arrow seems to affirm that idea pretty well, heh. I also usually don't like the colors you used at all, but in this context, with their contrast to the mood of the piece, they come across as subtlely sarcastic, which I like. Also, on an aesthetic level, the drop shadows were also a great touch. The pic would have looked pretty flat and boring without them. I honestly did like both pieces a lot, but Retribution gets my vote for this one.
Retribution
Well, considering it's been a week and two days since the last post, I'll take it that we're not getting any more. Honestly, it was a bit disappointing getting only three votes for submissions that took us a while, but that's how it goes I suppose. I'd love to battle you again, White. Good match.
SunfallE
I don?t suppose you?d take another vote? I?ve had trouble getting online most of the past week. >_< Well I?ll post it anyway and you can decide whether or not to accept it. ^_^ White: Well first of all I really love the words you choose to represent hate. The font of the main words and the faded one in the back really set the mood of how hate is always there, lurking behind everything. It gives off a dark feeling to it. Very nicely done. The only problem I see with it is that there is so much empty space, but at the same time that?s kind of what hatred is about, an empty darkness that surrounds you and leaves nothing behind, no light or joy or anything. So even with the extra space it still conveys the feeling quite well. Though I think if you were to crop off the extra space it would make an awesome banner. Retribution: What really stands out is the sharp contrast in colors. The pink O is nice but a bit distracting. I also like how clearly the word poltik stands out and the bit of a drop shadow gives it a nice feeling of depth. Although I do think that the overlapping words in the back give a good feeling of how politics really are what throws me off is how the individual letters that don?t overlap are touching. It?s a good thing though as it gives the impression of being irritating and unreadable which is often how politics really are, a bunch of lies and useless laws. It really fits quite well. It?s hard to choose since I like both pieces, for this one my vote goes to Retribution.
