Guest Prick Wizard
hi im new here but thats not to say that i dont have an idea or two I think that the .com should possibly be abolished and changed to .wand or even .elf This would give the website a more mystical feel and I feel that it would imrpove the experience as a whole. It would also attract attention from people searching the internet for wands who might have an interest in the community.
Baron Samedi
Err. Wow. I have no idea what to say. Not only does this have nothing to do with Otakuboards [an anime web-forum] but you cannot randomly put whatever you want to at the end of the URL. It just doesn't work like that. They're not available, because they don't exist and you can't just make them, lol.
Lord Rannos
Whoa, you can just put stuff on at the end instead of .com? Sweet. My website's gonna be .awesome. But seriously, I'm not sure doing anything to make the site feel more mystical would really be helpful. Since this is an anime based forum, I think people trying to find wands or elves would be slightly disappointed. And I don't think we're necessarily trying to attract people doing random searches for Fantasy based stuff. For that matter, I don't really think the URL of a website affects my experience there a whole lot.
DeathKnight
Unfortunately most of OtakuBoards is racist against Elves and Wand-users so we're not going to do either of those. There is, however, some discussion of changing it to otakuboards.deathknight for obvious reasons.
Guest Prick Wizard
I just think that it would add a magical dimension to an otherwise dull URL extension. Everyone uses .com or .co.uk these days and it would give an interesting otherworldly effect that would make the boards more interactive. Maybe Rwanda offer .wand - perhaps an official can clarify this for yous, but you're on your own for a .elf extension. It's a shame I haven't passed my sage exams, the industry is crying out for computer wizards just now.
Petie
I'm not sure if you actually bothered to read the other posts in this thread. You cannot just make up your own URL. People use .com, and if it's taken, fall to .net or some other less common ones. They don't just make them up off the top of their heads. There are a set number of endings you can use on the web and elf and wand aren't among them.
Dagger
There is, however, some discussion of changing it to otakuboards.deathknight for obvious reasons.
A most excellent suggestion. ;) And personally, I'm kind of inclined to think that the OP is messing with us. But perhaps I'm just paranoid...? ~Dagger~
Doukeshi
You know...I think that otakuboards.elf sounds like a fabulous idea and I don't know why it hasn't been brought up before. Of course if we changed the url we'd have to change the entire layout of the site, make it green instead of blue and change the main image to one of Glorfindel amidst the trees for example. Hell while we're at it, lets change the name all together, call it elfboards, it has a much niftier ring to it and would make it even easier to find for the elven comminuty. I also think that we should make the boards out of chocolate, so that anyone who desires can snack while they peruse the site.

Desbreko
*laughs* . . . *laughs some more* . . . Sorry, I -- *more laughing* *deep breath* Okay, even taking this seriously (and assuming it's even possible), changing the URL would, if anything, decrease the number of visitors we'd get. Think about it: People hear about this "OtakuBoards" site from wherever, and what do you think the first thing they're going to try is? They're going to type "www.otakuboards.com" into the address bar because .com is by far and wide the most commonly used. If that doesn't do it, they may then try .net, or even go as far as .org. But I doubt .wand or .elf is going to enter their mind. And with .com, .net, and .org all coming up empty, they may just give up without ever even touching a search engine.

On that note, why would people want to search for wands in the first place? And - no offence intended here - as an example - I presume - of this target audience, your posts in Adventure Inn/Square make me all the more certain we don't want them here. To be honest, I'm surprised [click]this one[/click] hasn't been modded yet, for several reasons. TheShinje
Even though you can change the dns server to whatever, that's a hell of a lot of work for such little payoff. In fact, the only payoff that would eventuate is the change from .com to .elf, and the loss of the memberbase who would be wondering where Otakuboards.com went. OtakuBoards would then degenerate into a hub for endless discussion about wands and elves. heck, in that case, why stop there? Why not change the name of the boards to elvenwandboards.elf?

Sara
Having stayed out of the fray long enough, I have my own two cents to add. Given that this is an anime site, and there is not (to my knowledge) a currently super-popular anime involving wands or elves, I counter your suggestion with this: (Are you ready? If you think so, go ahead and highlight.)
OtakuBoards.ninja
. Not only would this move change the ambience of the boards from something commercial and corporate to something much cooler, but the specific advantages of
.ninja
are almost countless. Without specifying what kind of
ninja
the suffix refers to, we would be leaving the site's URL open to the interpretation of the visitor. Traditional, magical, doctoral, code and pirate-hating
ninja
would all be represented, thus broadening the appeal of OtakuBoards almost tenfold. I would also like to add that the italicisation of
.ninja
would be mandatory in all cases, in order to emphasise the uniqueness and stealthiness of the new name.

Other than to use it to get here I for one ignore it when I am browsing the different sections here at the forum. I really don?t care what the extension is, I?m more interested in whether or not the people are remarkable or if the site contents catch my attention. Changing it to one that currently doesn?t exist would be about as useful as shooting yourself in the foot. Like Desbreko said, most people would use the more common .com when looking and maybe .net and then .org And then there?s the question of all the members who have put the location of this forum in their favorites links. Changing the address would mean that they would get an error saying it can?t be found or something like that. A lot of people would just assume that OtakuBoards no longer exists and look for another one instead. I?m sure there?s a way to have it re-direct you to the correct site, but it just seems so pointless to go to all that trouble when it?s already established. Lord Dante
I'm all for the
.ninja
extension, as ninjas have power rivaled by only Febreeze. however I put forward that, if the domain name has to be changed (which, by all accounts, it doesn't) I suggest otakuboards.otakuboards - give peole a blast from both barrels of the otakuboards shotgun!
