CrazyMew
What is your favorite book? I love the book Feed by M.T Anderson.I've read it 18 times. Its about the world in the future and every one has an internet uplink chip in their head and everyones illiterate because no-one needs to be able read or write but there is one girl whose chip breaks and she is reduced to a vegtable state by the end of the book. The style of writing is good as it shows how this chip (the feed) has destroyed the english language as the word 'like' comes up every 5 seconds and there is only a very limited range of words they use. All in all a fabulas book.
Starwind
Sounds pretty interesting. My favorite book is House of the Scorpion. It's basically about a clone named Matt. He is the clone of a powerful Mexican drug lord known as El Patron. It goes through his childhood leading all the way up to his early teen years. It goes from him being a prisoner to practically leading the house, then to escaping from it, then his eeventual return. I't s great story, I think you should probably take a look into it. It poses a some really good questions and I think you'd enjoy it.

For those lucky enough to excape the go to live in this place with a computer called shade. well all he asks is you run missions for him so that one day maybe he can stop all the killing and over trow what ever is bekind this. it is a good book and i have read it over 7 times it is well written and easy to understand what is going on with out ruining the twists. but i have a lot of books i like most are fantasy or about humans struggle to suvive either the future or human nature. KatanaViolet
Hmm There are a few... I really enjoyed Memoirs of A Geisha by Arthur Golden But I really like Chuck Palahniuk, who wrote Fight Club and Invisible Monsters. I'm yet to read Survivor, even though I have it. There's just not enough time sometimes. I enjoyed Michael Moore's books Stupid White Men and Dude Where's My Country also. ooo and Hardcore Zen by Brad Warner, as well as the CSI original novels. Hahahah it's hard to pick a favorite. I like reading all sorts of books.
Retribution
My favorite book by far is Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. It's really old -- I can't recall if it's fourty of sixty years old, but it's somewhere in that range. It's about cloning humans in a 1984-esque environment. I personally enjoyed this book more than 1984, and I think it deserves more recognition than it currently recieves. It's definitely a must-read for any Sci-Fi fan.

Starwind
House of The Scorpion was written by Nancy Farmer. It's gotten numerous awards and is a great piece to add to any collection. There were parts where I literally had to set the book down and take a break. The story is just so trying at some points you just have to take a break or you start to feel physically exhausted. celestialcharm
I have so much favorite books! But, I really liked Noughts and Crosses by Malorie Blackman. I feel too lazy to summarize it myself, so here's what Wikipedia has to say:
Sephy (a Cross) and Callum (a Nought) have known each other since childhood, but their different races stand in the way of their developing relationship, and gradually ruin every hope of them being together as they grow older. When Sephy becomes a drunk she escapes to boarding school to leave her old life behind, while Callum joins a terrorist organisation. When he is forced to kidnap Sephy, they make love and she becomes pregnant. When her father, a leading politician, finds out, he disowns Sephy and forces her to make a terrible decision- to sacrifice either Callum's life or her child's.
I'm into the whole Romantic Drama stuff...
Renate
I have three absolute favourites: Memoirs of a Geishy by Arthur Golden, Howl's Moving Castle by Diane Wynne Jones, and the His Dark Materials trilogy by Phillip Pullman. I liked Memoirs of a Geisha a lot because it was set in Japan and I loved the whole scenery of the geisha world. I thought it was beautiful and moving, and I adored the characters in it. Howl's Moving Castle is in my opinion a book that should be known far much more than it is now. I was hoping to read it after watching the trailers of the Miyazaki movie, but I couldn't get my hands on it anywhere. So I asked a friend in England if she could send me it as a bday present. The language is beautiful, the world as well, and the characters so loveable. Phillip Pullman's His Dark Materials is a must-read for every fantasy fan (like me, I've read both Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings so I think this can appealing for them too). You've got great characters, a great storyline, and interesting symbolism!
2010DigitalBoy
The Vampire Hunter D series is a totally wicked one I think people should check out. I'd give a description but I kinda have a big article on it on theotaku... Also, 1984 is awesome. I realize just about everyone's read it, but I haven't read all that many books, so whatever. Also, The Samurai's Tale was pretty good...

One of the greatest fantasy trilogies ever written (Though I dislike how Pullman developed Lyra from the strong-will independent into an idiot-girl always in need of saving... but I guess what shee went through can do that to a girl). Philip Pullman's other stories really weren't that strong, but I loved this one (Sorry but I can't stand Sally Lockehart!). I think the best part of the entire triolgy is the comic cirumstances in which the story was written; think of it as the anti-Narnia, which is what Pullman wrote it to be. In Narnia, being a child was great, growing up sucked. It's the exact opposit in HDM, although I wont go into detail. Narnia was blatantly pro-Christian, HDM was blatantly anti-organised religion. Plus it's wonderfully written with charming characters (Pan r teh pwnage~! Oh, and Iorek and Lee Scoresbey are pretty cool aswell  ) and a great story. Oh, and for the record, Harry Potter sucked.
Cat
My favorite book series is The Forbidden Game by L.J. Smith. It is made up of 3 books called The Hunter (volume 1), The Chase (volume 2), and The Kill (volume 3). I'm guessing the books would be fantasy because of the idea of magic and wierd creatures. But the magic is then not really magic but more like science from the way I look at. I don't want to tell to much because the books are way to good with a most unexpected endings. Another book that I like that I am reading at the moment is Heartbreak and Triumph: The Shawn Michaels Story. Just from this you can tell that I like wrestling and well Shawn michaels is one of my favorite. The book is writen by Shawn Michaels himself and tells about how he made it in the wrestling world. It also tells about when he was a kid and his childhood. This book is very funny in some places and yet sad in others. I hope that someone will pick up these books and find out how great they are for them selfs.
Lady Asphyxia
I really do not want an arguement about the merits of Harry Potter in this thread. If you want to have a nicely thought out debate, then feel free to create a thread -- or you can simply read the old thread[Keep in mind that it contains unmarked spoilers for the 6th book, however.]. To Bloodlust and Crazy Mew, please don't simply post two lines. Expand what you're going to say; if you liked a book, say why. If you can't expand it, add another book you like. One or two lines of text is pretty much considered spam -- if it happens again I'll simply delete it. I have a couple of old favourites which I'm kind of pining for now that I have no access to them. One of these is the Dark Jewels trilogy by Anne Bishop. It contains the three novels Daughter of the Blood, Heir to the Shadows and Queen of the Darkness. It's a fantastic read for fantasy addicts, and it's actually quite..dark, would be the only way to describe it. Another would be Ender's Game, by Orson Scott Card, though I've only read it once. It's so powerful and the world they live in is so cool. It's an adult's book aimed at a non-adult audience, I think. It has the real consquences of what those kids go through, but it also has a happy ending, so it's a good novel all around. I've read 1984 and I liked it simply for the thoroughness of the world. It's a really fantastic book and very quotable if you ever do an assignment on privacy at school [as I found out when I did it.] And finally, although I haven't read it, I'm really interested in reading anything by Gregory Maguire. He wrote Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister and it seems like an interesting twist on the old fairytales, so I really want to read that. Another fantastic book was Enchantment, also by Orson Scott Card -- I loved it. It was another twist on the fairytales -- this time sleeping beauty -- and it goes into Russian history and fairytales and so many good things. It's a fantastic book and I'd really recommend it.
