Some of you may have seen the hiragana animations I've made before in this thread. I've created new ones with a few additions. Anyway, I'm wondering what your opinions are of them. Are they too..... much? Are the easier to follow then the old ones, or do they make things more complicated? If you were trying to learn japanese, which ones would you choose, the new ones, or the old ones? Or is there anything, I should add?

I think the numbering is helpful. The little zoom-in-flash thing (sorry, I can't think of how to describe it) that happens at the end of each sequence is a bit much, though. It would be better if you had each hiragana gently fade back to gray before starting with the first stroke again.

Wow, those are so...cute?

Maybe "cute" is in the wrong context, but it's pretty much in my area of describance. The animations seems quite helpful to me...you know, I'm the idiot that makes the stroke in the wrong direction and things don't flow as well. :3

I'm not too sure how much I like the numbers. I would watch these things and be screaming "NEXT STROKE!" but the number would add that extra millisecond of wait. - -;; That sounded incredibly lame...

They are quite neat, though I echo Dagger up 'thar. I'm not too fond of the "zoom in flash" thingie. Fading seems to be the best option, at least at the end.

Thanks for the input.
The little zoom-in-flash thing (sorry, I can't think of how to describe it) that happens at the end of each sequence is a bit much, though.
Lol, that part was fun to do.

So, should I have the numbers appear simultaneously with each stroke?

You both mention fading back to grey at the end, but I already have that. So, should the fading be more gradual? Is the fading I already have too fast?

Anyway, I kind of like the zooming, so I'll wait for more opinions in case anyone likes it, to see wether I should scrap it or not.

Wonderful project, Chabichou-san! Yes, these are definitely better than the old ones 'cause the strokes are numbered and one can see the characters as they are constructed.

Um, perhaps you should edit out that zoom-in thing 'cause I felt strangely light-headed after seeing it for the first time. And it would help if the numbers showed up at the start of each sequence; that way, it's easier to distinguish between strokes. EDIT: Also, I gather that some strokes should be started halfway up the space provided. Maybe you can add in a "1/2" line as well?
And it would help if the numbers showed up at the start of each sequence; that way, it's easier to distinguish between strokes.[/SIZE']
When you say "sequence" do you mean the actual physical stroke? So you'd like me to place the number where the stroke first starts to form?

Or do you mean time-wise? That the number should appear when the stroke starts to form, rather than after it's complete?

1) For example: My instructor told me that a particular stroke in "ya" (see picture) has to be started on the 1/2 line I was talking about. I'm not sure about similar rules/preferences for other characters, though (methinks it's pretty complicated).

2) Yes, that's it! The number should appear at the start of the stroke. Well put.

After all, I simply typed them into my graphics program. I used the standard japanese textbook font, which is the most similar to handwriting.

I'm in the minority of people who like the zoom-in feature. I think it's pretty cool and adds something more to an already outstanding animation. Though, when they're all together like that and zooming at different times, it can be a little distracting. Having them each on seperate lines would help.

That would be very distracting, and it it would probably make people really dizzy. It might even cause siezures in some people, lol.

I plan to have a table with still images of the characters. You click on each character, and a popup comes up with its animation.

Anyway, thanks for the compliment. And I'm glad someone likes the zoom in thingy.:animesmil
