Suggested: Avatar Re-arrangement.

[color=crimson] I feel like the OtakuBoard's avatar gallery could do with a little adjusting.

I'm suggesting that, since there are enough Matrix avatars to sink a ship in the "movies" category, that a seperate gallery be created for them. We, after all, have galleries that consist of 4 avatars at the least.

I suggest this because I feel like the other movies avatars are drowned out by them, you get a few Kill Bill ones then pages of Matrix ones, you could be forgiven for thinking that the rest of the gallery consisted of Matrix Avatars solely.

You could argue that's because no-one has made movies avatars that preceed the letter M, but in the end, I feel that there is ample reason to give the Matrix it's own little space in the avatars categories.[/color]

I think the idea itself is fine, but I should point out something as well. We are primarily an anime site, which is why we have a category for each anime title. We have blanket categories for film and music because those areas - while they are included in OB - are not really our biggest focus. This was the original reason behind the way the library is organized.

I would be happy enough to change that, if everyone is in favor of it. But also, I did not want new galleries to be opened unless they begin with at least six avatars (I believe it was six, anyway - I might be forgetting the precise number). In any case, whenever there are enough avatars about one thing to justify its own category, I think that's fine. However, it might be a little confusing if we have a lot of regular films and bands and stuff mixed in with anime. If you guys would prefer it that way though, then I have no problem at all.[/font]

[color=#4B0082]Yeah, I know, I've been meaning to make some more Chrono Trigger avatars to fill out that category. Those went up before the "six to start a new category" rule went into effect with the creation of the Avatar Submission Thread, so it kind of slipped past that, and I've never gotten around to making more.

Though I'd like to note that my Schala avatar in there was quite popular for a time. :p

As for giving The Matrix its own category, I wouldn't particularly care, but then where do you draw the line? Star Wars has more than six avatars, so should we also give it its own category? There are already 48 categories crowding that drop-down menu with only anime and games getting their own categories, and if we gave movies and the like separate categories as well, the list could quickly grow out of hand. (If you've ever tried to use the drop-down menu on the [url=http://www.megatokyo.com/][u]MegaTokyo[/u][/url] site, you know what I mean.) So I'm kind of loathe to start down that road, especially since I don't even see this as a problem, but I'll do the necessary shuffling if people really want this.[/color]

I think another soultion that would work to pad-out the plethora of Matrix avatars would be to make some more movies ones up to add movie variety. I'll see what I can do in regards to submitting some.[/color]

[size=1]It think it's because there are some movies that don't have enough for their own catagory, and others that do, so instead of going halfway, Des was going to keep it as is.

I think a solution to it might be a "Misc. Movies & TV" or something for all those movies that don't have enough for their own gallery, but it would also let you move all your movies to their own catagory.

And I know I might be getting a bit too complicated, but could there just be sub-galleries? That way you'd have the "Movies & TV" sub-gallery, and within that every movie would have their own section. I think it'd be pretty organized that way.[/size]

[size=1]Why not be able to filter it down some? I realise that this is primarily an anime site, but admittedly, your audience who doesn't watch anime is reasonably large too. Anyway, why not have a filtering system, where you choose from Anime, Movies, Music etc. and then divide it into Chrono Trigger, Matrix, Greenday etc.

Be a lot easier to navigate.[/size]

You've got categories (sub-categories aren't possible unless there's a hack for them), category order, and avatar order within the categories -- and that's it. I've already used those to alphabetize the categories and avatars within, which is kind of a pain in itself with the way the software works, but I can't really do anything else to farther organize them.

More movie avatars to offset the large number of Matrix ones would be great, though. Stick 'em in the thread and they'll get added the next time I do an update.[/color]
