man they dont make rpgs as they use to :animedepr kingdom hearts and final fantasy 10 were the best ive ever played on ps2 if you guys know any good rpgs on ps2 like kh 1 and ff 10 please inform me :(

The Xenosaga series are kinda like Final Fantasy X, the fighting system is pretty simular and it has an interesting storyline. They are worth playing if you like your RPG's.

There's also Final Fantasy X-2 but in my opinion it's not as good as the original, it can get a little frustrating at times. I enjoyed it though because I'm a big Final Fantasy fan.

Lord of the Rings: The Third Age has exactly the same fighting system as Final Fantasy X. The game doesn't have much storyline at all though so I would only go for that one if you're a big LOTR/RPG fan.

Have you tried out any of the Nippon Ichi RPGs? Namely La Pucelle, Disgaea, and Phantom Brave. Personally, I'd recommend Disgaea out of the three, but the other two are excellent choices, too. Then again, they're all strategy/tactical RPGs, which most people I know don't tend to like.

Aside from that, I really can't help you. It's been ages since I've played an RPG for the PS2, with the last one before the tactical ones stated above being FFX, Kingdom Hearts, and FFX-2. To tell the truth, I'd much rather go back and play the some of the older RPGs out there than most of what's on offer today, but that's just me.[/color]

True , True. The reason I did that was that I had only ten minutes. here are my opinions on them.

Lunar SSSC: This one of the first RPG'S that I got into. It's story was enthralling, Its battle system was simple, but fun. The characters were the reason I got into Anime.

Lunar 2 EB: I thoroughly Enjoyed this splendid RPG experience. I loved the Compelling story of Hiro, and Lucia. The bosses were tough, but the satisfaction of finally beating the Star Dragon and getting to Lucia in the end brought tears to my eyes.

Final Fantasy VII: I am sure, I am not in the minority when I say FF VII Ruled The World!
This is one of my penultimate RPGS.No need to explain why.

Thousand Arms: A Dating Sim/RPG That succeeded on multiple levels. A strange Hybrid with great roots.

Growlanser Generations: I love the old School Strategy aspect of Growlanser. Combine that with Great Characters, and an engrossing story, and you have a great RPG Series.

[color=crimson][b]Growlanser Generations[/b]- A pack of Growlanser 2 and 3, this is pretty much one of the better tactical RPGs to come out since.. Disgaea, really. The stories for both of the games are top notch but Growlanser 2 is a bit short. However, both of the games have seven or eight different endings possible (I wish I was kidding) and both of them include a nice New Game+ feature so you have tons of replay value there.

It has a neat system where you pretty much 'create' the main character's method of fighting in the beginning- there is a series of questions and the answers you give determine various statistics of yours. Defense, attack, magic attack, MP/HP, elemental resistances, how your stats grow- all of it is affected by the opening questions. In Growlanser 3 there is the added affect of your questions determining your character's personality- depending on what kind of personality you have you will open up/close off the responses you can give during conversations.

Not really sure what else to tell you. It's good in every area that I can think of- even the voice acting is pretty awesome for an American RPG.

[b]Suikoden 3[/b]- I'm not sure why more people don't play the Suikoden series since it's infinitely more entertaining than any of the post-FF7 Final Fantasy offerings. Really- you should go pick up Suikoden 1 and 2 sometime because of how classically good they are. But if you are really just into PS2-era RPGs, Suikoden 3 is really worth your time. All the production values are great- good visuals, good sound and so on. It has a immersive, well written story that is told from three different viewpoints. The characters (all [b]108[/b] of them that you can recruit) are all engaging and interesting- especially the three main characters. The battle system is a bit atypical if you haven't played a Suikoden game before- you have a party of six instead of three/four and you can execute combo attacks depending on how you pair them up. Beyond that minute difference, it's a pretty standard RPG battle system. There are alot of extra mini-bosses/side quests you can do so you'll have plenty to do. All in all I think it's depressing that more people haven't played it.[/color]

I recomend the Shadow Hearts series. Its an RPG where each action a reel spins. The trick is to stop the line on the orange shaded area. If you miss you lose the turn. If you land in the small red area you do more damage. Its a great battle system and the story is intresting. So definetly give it a try.

i enjoyed the .hack games...it's a four game series....i dunno if you're a fan of the whole .hack thing but it also comes withthe DVD's of .hack//limnality. i liked it's whole storyline too...you know the wholel idea of .hack is really cool ^_^ cept the whole falling into a coma from a game idea hee hee that wouldn't be fun...^_^

I recommend Shin Megami Tensei series (Noctune, Nocturne Maniac, Digital Devil Saga 1, or Digital Devil Saga 2) cause all of them are cool!!!

Especially Nocturne cause you could play and fight as Dante (yes....Dante from Devil May Cry...mind you that the game's RPG....) and it had the gameplay system where you could recruit monsters as your ally....

Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2 is also great because of it's soundtrack and story.....and there's many secret bosses which are very challanging (OMG, my sp is bad....) to beat...(especially Hitoshura the super boss on DDS 1.....damn he's hard to beat and could wipe you out on a single blow)

Both has same battle system but there're difference between them....the difference is just that in Nocturne your turn is determined by agility but in DDS you turn is determined by position...both of them have simple gameplay (it's too long to explain, you better see it for yourself), but is challanging (:animecry: sp.....*hik*).

I really like text RPGs.

Achaea- My first ever text RPG I got into online. I have two characters in this game and I love it a lot. Bashing as a monk is great, but, being a druid as my second character is awesome as well because I get to shoot lightning at people.

Lusternia- This one is a lot of fun. You get to be a goody goody yet you get to have the skill of tarot, which on achaea is for an evil class. (Except Jester) I just really like the whole aspect of tessering to different plane fields.

PokeMon Red- This one, I just loved to kick everyone's but and be the strongest trainer possible....and Gotta catch 'em all!![/COLOR]

I personally love every single Suikoden game released, even 4 which is probably the worst out of them. I also like Squaresofts RPGs on the SNES (aka Chrono Trigger and Bahamut Lagoon) as they were some of the best I ever played.
Thing is though, I have a preference to PC RPGs than to Console which explains my love of any Dungeons and Dragons game. inclduing (but not limited to) Baldurs Gate, Planescape: Torment, Icewind Dale, Neverwinter Nights and Eye of the Beholder. I guess you could say I was raised on PC RPGs.

I have Star Ocean 3: Till the End of Time. It's pretty fun, I suggest you try playing it if you like Final Fantasy X. It's really quite interesting, what I really don't like about it though is that the music is sometimes louder than the character's voices so it's sometimes hard to understand what they are talking about.

I don't really like that game and I love FFX, only thing about that game is the way that if you do sometihng wrong(like I did) you wont be able to unlock a certain character and stuff like that.

Yes I've played FFX-2 and It's fun but it's just not the same kind of game as you'd think. I just couldn't sink into like I've done with FFX and FFVII or .Hack games. Another good game for [B]gameplay[/B] is Ys: Ark of Naphitism fun for the game, but like a story line it lakes some detail.

Well personaly I enjoyed Legend of Dragoon. It had a great story line and fun battles. The combos were awsome too with the timing and such. If you like it, have it and aren't very far because you said screw it you should get it out of your closet/attic and finish it or play it again..

If you liked Final Fantasy might I suggest the following PSone and PStwo RPGs.

1. Shadow Hearts: Covenant (PS2): This is a solid RPG.The graphics are good, the storyline is decent, the music is awesome, characters are memorable. The game's setting is primarily Europe during the First World War. It's about a young man named Yuri Hyuga who has this unique ability to use Fusion, an ability that allows someone to change into different demonic spirits that he has overcome, and a young German woman name Karin who set out to fight against a certain organization that would seek to destory the world. The storyline is somewhat dark (not nearly as dark as the first game though) and its filled with some pretty twisted looking monsters. Along the way you will move across Europe and recruit a few other characters along the way. It's an awesome game and well worth looking into. The original Shadow Hearts is pretty good too if you can get past the weaker graphics. I do not recommend Shadow Hearts: From the New World though. The storyline of that one was crap. Here's a link. 2. The Legend of Legaia (PSone): This was one of the first PS RPGs I played. The graphics aren't very good, but I personally enjoyed playing this game. It's been a really long time since I've played this one so I cannot give you a very good description.All I can say is that the storyline is pretty cookie-cutter but I really liked it anyway. 3. The Legend of Dragoon(PSone): The dialogue in this game was...pretty bad but if you can get past that I think this one was pretty fun. I liked the battle system...it's a bit more challenging than a simple point and click of the FF series. You actually have to be good at timing when you press the buttons. 4. Suidoken 3(PS2). This was one of my favorite RPGs. I'm not sure why. I suppose it's because of all the characters...there are so many of them that it's nearly impossible to not like at least one. (or maybe it is? *shrugs) The Trinity System that allows you to replay the story through the eyes of a different character was very interesting and I enjoyed upgrading weapons as well. I agree with the qualities of RPG's declining as of late, but that dosen't mean there weren't any good ones or even masterpieces for that matter out in the recent years.

There are quite a few gems out for the PS2.

FFX was my favorite for the longest time until i played Shadow Hearts: Covenent. SH:C to me is easily the best RPG on the PS2 currently (this is keeping in mind however that i have yet to play Grandia 3 or the second DDS). SH:C came out of nowhere with a very well progressed storyline, interesting characters, a fun and new battle system (a big improvement over the first SH), and the first RPG with a hotter chick than Tifa in it (yeah i'm a big karin fan). It has it's tedious moments, but that can be said about any RPG...getting past them to see the great all around experience the game has to offer is worth it.

Shadow Hearts and Shadow Hearts: Covenent are games any RPG fan should get around to playing. I'm currently playing 3, it isn't bad...the characters are great and the story gets pretty interesting toward the middle of the game...but the one thing that annoys me is [spoiler]the puzzles and quests are incredibly easy, to the point where a child could solve them[/spoiler].

Xenosaga is great for story, especially for the fans who don't enjoy too much the constant battling in an RPG since Xenosaga is largely story progression in the form of cut sequences. It starts off a bit slow but it ends up growing on you. The ending sequence is very good as well.

The SMT series is another gift to RPG fans on the PS2. Nocturne especially offers a unique and enthralling gaming system as well as a storyline that begs to be followed since very little of it is presented initially. The system of capturing and fusing demons presents you with an almost endless amount of party members, and a gradual build up in power within those demons that may sometimes lead to evolution. With the leveling system though you are almost forced to constantly add new and higher level demons to your party in order to keep up with the main character. The battle system is extremely traditional, nothing out of the ordinary and no complex equipment system either...but it isn't neccesary for the most part.

The DDS games from the SMT series are different in the way that they concentrate more deeply on the storyline. I haven't played the second one yet, but the first is worth getting and is probably one of the RPGs that should be on the top 5 "PS2 RPGs to get" list. The only real annoyance in any of the SMT games is the amazingly high encounter rate.

Star Ocean: TTEOT offers a very in depth story with a more than full length gameplay with very interesting characters. The battle system is about as far from tradition you can get, and it takes time getting used to, but ultimatley you will find yourself getting into battles because they are fun. There is a great variety of characters and even points where you will have to make decisions because you don't have the capacity to recruit them all. The graphics are incredible, the in battle offers a challenge, the soundtrack carries the gameplay nicely, and the maps are beautiful. It isn't however without fault, theres nothing so bad worth mentioning but it is the game with (IMO) the hardest final boss battle out of the PS2 RPGs.

If your into SRPGs, there is a good amount of those out on the PS2, Phantom Brave and Disgaea are ones worth mentioning. Both of which will cause you to rely on their story and battle to get you through. If your a fan of the Dynasty Warriors series of games, the ROTK series is an extreme elaboration on them and offers great SRPG style battle. If anyone else has read the novel of the "Three Kingdoms" the ROTK games (X being the latest one, and it has great replay value) offer an experience that really emulates more than well what it's like in those times as according to the book. The detail is incredible and i can honestly say it takes quite a long time to get a handle on the game fully.

Getting off the PS2 subject momentarily. Fire Emblem, Tales of Symphonia, and virtually any LOZ games are worth looking into (all gamecube titles). I don't think i should have to discuss much about the LOZ series and the good word of TOS i see has spread throughout the board already.

Assuming most people felt that the era of really great RPGs ended with the release of the former next gen systems, i won't discuss too many PS1 RPGs...but for most RPG fans it speaks for itself that the PS1 harbored some of the absolute best...such as many installments of the great Final Fantasy series (1-9 can be found on the PS1), my second favorite RPG of all time Xenogears...Square's masterpiece that dosen't begin with Final or end in Fantasy, Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross can be found on the PS1...Trigger speaks for itself amongst the older RPG fans, it obviously revolutionized the 16-bit RPG and offered a timeless and captivating story.

Legend of Legaia, Legend of Dragoon, Lunar SSSC, Lunar 2, Persona are just a few non-square titles for the PS1 that should make every RPG fan's honors list.

Virtually anything with the Squaresoft/Square-enix or Atlus brands are worth playing simply by that criteria alone. Some are better than others, and each may have 1 or 2 duds (IMO Saga frontier could have used some work), but the overwhelming majority leads to a good to great experience. But of course they aren't the only ones who can put out a good RPG.

[size=1][color=slategray]If you have a Gameboy Advance, I highly suggest Golden Sun and Golden Sun 2: The Lost Age. Those have to be two of my favorite RPG games ever, the graphics just blew me away when I first played it, compared to the crap graphics GBA was dishing out at the time. The storyline is quite good, and you have such an expansive world to explore. You are practically free to do what you want in between your main quests. You can mix-and-match your Djinn anyway you want to give your characters unique powers.
I don't know, I just love these two games. If you like the concept of Alchemy and Elementals, check it out, biatch. I spent many weeks, days, hours playing this game, and I never once got bored.

Though I've only played the first game, I also recommend the .hack series, especially if you are a .hack//SIGN fan. It's like an online game, with the beauty of not needing to deal with actual people. Haha.

And, if you are into that kind of thing, check out the Jak and Daxter trilogy. It's not even funny how much I'm in love with that series, I don't know what my problem is. The first game was just cute, but when I got to the second game, I got way into it, it was great, with all the guns and just... argh... now I need to get the racing one. XD
