Now you can add Singin' in the Rain to my list as well. I just watched it today, and holy crap is it ever awesome. Good story, the songs are great, and the humor had me absolutely rolling. I should probably keep underestimating musicals, because I always seem to end up pleasantly surprised when I do. :p

Let's see....let's see....what musicals do I choose?

First and foremost:

PHANTOM OF THE OPERA: For me, I love the musical and the movie was "ehh" for me, but if Michael Crawford is not playing the tortured soul Erik...then I am not interested....plain and simple. ;)

SOUND OF MUSIC: Hello! If anyone loves this musical, it's me! ^_^ *hums "Lonely Goatheard"* :animesmil

CATS: Ahh, my SECOND Favorite one. So much so that I've created a fan fic character, write fictions with her in it, moderate my forum that's dedicated to this musical (and if you are a fan PM me! :catgirl: ), and I IM RP with a good friend of mine every night about it. Me obsessed? NOOO..... :p :smirk:

I love Rent and Wicked, and for good reason. Now, I know that you cynics out there will have a hard time believing me, but my best friend Natalie's cousin is Idina Menzel, who played Maureen in Rent and Elphaba in Wicked. She's really good. ^^ So's Taye Diggs, her husband. But we're talking about the shows, not the actors. Rent was really a different experience for me. I was so used to musicals being these happy, melodic, "Sounds of Music" rip-offs. Rent, though, was modern, angsty, and really emotionally involving! I love Angel and Collins! They were so cute together!
I cried when Angel died.
Natalie and I sing the Rent songs all the time. As for Wicked, I read the book, and that only made the musical so much more fun for me. I love the whole switched perspective to the Wizard of Oz story. Really made you think about who was the bad guy and who simply got the short end of the stick.

Has no one mentioned Fiddler on the Roof and Little Shop of Horrors ?

Oh my goodness do I love Fiddler. My middle school did a jr. production, and I sat in on a few rehersals and the 8th grade (the grade I was in) got to see it during the school day.
I was also lucky enough to score a copy of the VHS during the week before the play at the local library. Me and my mom watched it four times (okay, I watched it three times by myself).
This was also around the time Gwen Stefani's song "Rich Girl" came out. So at the 8th grade dance when it was played, we had the guy who played Tevya do "the dance".

And Little Shop of Horrors! Oh boy.I also borrowed the VHS from the library, as well as the "script", which was like an actual script, just in hardback book form. It even included song lyrics!
My mom was trying to get my tickets to go see it at the Performing Arts Center, but they were REALLY expensive, and only crappy seats were left.

I also love Sound of Music. It goes pretty much the same way as Fiddler, but my school didn't perform it.And I borrowed the soundtrack so I could sing in the shower to it.
Ha ha ha.

And sorry guys, but I strongly dislike Rent. Everyone in my highschool is obsessed with it, and our choir is even singing "Seasons of Love" for their next concert.
So, I've pretty much had it.

Well, is that your reason for not liking Rent? If so, it's a pretty poor reason.

Yeah, I'm a bit of a newbie in the world of musicals, but Rent is what got me hooked. I loved how modern and edgy it was. It was so... today. "No day but today..."

Yes and no.
I mean I'm not trying to be all "punk" and "non-conformist" by saying I don't like Rent. The punks and goths or whatever they like to be called in my school even sing Rent tunes as they scuffle down the halls.
I just don't really care to see it.

And, maybe you don't care, but to back up my first point is that there was non-stop talk about it for the longest time. In my English class we could do a monolouge for extra credit. 7 out of the 15 people in my class, out of the 9 that did monolouges, did something from Rent.
There was a guy in my class that, no offense to him, he's a really great guy and all, but he is singing songs from Rent on a daily basis.

Some people even started a petition to get Rent as the one of our productions next year rather than Cats.

It starts to rub you the wrong way, especially if you don't like something or agree with it.

I've been watching Phantom of the Opera on HBO a lot this month and I really ahve to say its an elaborate musical with stunning acting and music to match. The only thing I didn't like about the movie was that the main actress didn't speak up much, I had to change the volume of the tv a lot just to hear what she was saying when she wasn't singing.

I don't think it's likely that it will happen. Schools have to be able to buy rites, and I haven't seen any Rent rites available. If it's still on Broadway (I know it's on tour), then you probably can't get the rites. Other than that, the subject matter is such that schools probably won't be allowed to do. I really can't envision a high school production that features
a bunch of people with AIDS or HIV, including homosexuals, transvestites, and previous drug users struggling to survive in Bohemian New York.
Just to set you at ease, heh.

I like Rent, but I've only seen the movie. My friend brought me a Rent pin from New York City when she saw it on Broadway, so I wear it on my jacket. I really like pins. It just annoys me when people see it and go, "I like your pin!" Meh.

I recently saw Bye Bye Birdie done at my school and it was amazing! I don't know how I'd like a film version, but Musical Theatre really pulled it off. The kids acting and singing in it were extremely talented, and I was jealous. At least I'll be in MT next year, and I'll be able to perform (probably in Throroughly Modern Millie, which I've never seen).

I love the musical Les Miserables! Its a tad depressing(ok its depressing) but I love the songs and the characters! I love Cosette. When I went to see it the little girl was so good! Another one I like is Lion King. The costumes, the music, the lights just everything was so nicely put together. And of course Mama Mia. I love the story added to the Abba songs.
