Guest mllrygoddess14
I know what makes me like anime so much...i guess its just so much of what we would want to happen like the dreamy romances and the guys saving us :catgirl:
lumpy3922
I agree I think that we like them because they are our dreams made into stories. Plus the stories and plots are intersting. It's just like soaps for older people. We like anime, just like they like soaps.

ManjoumeThunder
Hmm well I wouldn't be able to answer for everyone in the world on why "we" like anime. But I can certainly answer what are my reasons for liking anime. Mostly it has to do with the fact the storylines are actually for the most part well written. Unlike animation in the USA which is for the most part considered for "children" only. Anime tends to give us all the workings of a great adult series. They tend to have a great deal of romance, action, drama, and even comedy. With anime you can find something that will appeal to anyone you know, whether they are a fan of animation or not. That's a trait rarely found in american animation.
Dark Neko-Chan
I like it because the artwork is amazing- so much better than the crappy American kind. And I like the plots... They're all so different and not-bound by reality, as most cartoons are, I suppose. And the expressions- they never get old (you know, the freak-out ones :catgirl:) One thing I realize: Anime, in a sense, looks more realistic than American cartoons, yet they are often more fantisized than the American ones... Or maybe that's just me... :animeswea I'm sad, though. 'Cause the only friend I have that's as into anime, manga, and Japanese culture as a whole (my other two friends' interest extends only to Shonen Jump ((the bible)) is starting to lose interest... :animecry: I feel so alone in the world... :animecry:
Awaken
I like anime because of the great art work. I don't know about everybody but when i watch it I get so into everything i start talking to the tv! telling the characters what to do and that kind of stuff. its hilarious when i catch myself. I also like anime because usually they have a character you can relate to in every series (usually) And of course its way better than American animation. animegirl803
Since I'm a big story person. I like anime for it's interesting plots. Anime lives the life I wanted to live. I love their songs and art styles. Some people think that all anime is like Speed Racer andSailor Moon. But anime is deep and complex and in some cases educational. Everything about Japan I learned from anime.
Fasteriskhead
It's interesting the way the title of this thread is phrased - "what makes us like anime" rather than "why do we like anime." It's only a slight shift of meaning, but still food for thought. I would say that anime itself makes me like anime. I like anime because it speaks to me, and I like anime because I find myself caught up in it. I'm not sure if it would be prudent to question beyond that, as doing so would probably involve ascribing general qualities and characteristics to what anime is that may not apply in all cases (and if they don't, then whatever happens to our liking anime?). Miyuri Akisato
I love anime because the characters are animated. Not just 'animated' as in drawn, but they come to life. And their expressions are so exaggerated. I can't count how many times a day I think "if only I were an anime character you could see how I felt". I do my best with facial expressions and hand gestures, but anime does it better. Of course in my own imagination I can picture anger marks, or stun lines etc. but for some reason no one else seems to pick up on them. They do have some fantastic story lines as well. And so many bizzare ideas that you would never find in America, like "Fruits Basket" for example, or "Ranma 1/2". Ah the looks you get when trying to explain an anime story to a non-fan. *grin*
xXxiTaChixXx
I love Anime because of the stories and plots... its so much like real life that we tune to it everyday not only because of the action, but because of the way it aptures the essence of day-to-day living(plus the anime girls look sexy! ). Seriously it is like watching people in a soap opera... the suspense, the action and the thrills... Guest corncracker
I like Anime because the stories are better than pretty much anything else I've seen or read. The art style is addicting as well, also things that would be impossible in reality can happen in an anime and still look completely awsome. I like first posts. r2vq
Everything about Japan I learned from anime.
I'd be careful about that if I were you. Even if Anime isn't always directed towards children, it doesn't mean that it's not a work of fantasy. It's similar to judging American culture by MTV and Hollywood movies. Sometimes it may be a good reflection of a percentage of the population, but there's still a lot more too the culture than what is exported. ;) -Arvi
Redemption
I agree with you r2vq. You'd have to be careful about learning everything about Japan from an anime. Why I like anime? It's probably because of the art-style. Watching American-done cartoons now makes me cringe, for some odd reason. I just like the style of manga and anime, the drawing style. That and I would, someday, like to make some of my stories animes just for the mere fact that I would like to see other people watching them, and what they thought of it.
SunfallE
Everything about Japan I learned from anime.
That's kind of a scary thought. I mean think about it. Just imagine what people in Japan would think about us if they used cartoons to learn about other coutries. O_o! Anyway, If I take the thread's title literally by looking at what makes us like anime, I would have to say it's because they often deal with social situations that are often avoided where I live. Take shows like Sailor Moon and Yu-Gi-Oh and how they were horribly edited to hide the death of characters and cruelty of the villians. So to suddenly see a show that doesn't hide such things is akin to finding something that captures your attention is a way you never knew was possible. Which makes me wonder if the people who edit it think that by not showing it to kids and adults will somehow keep bad things from happening. So for me liking anime is as natural as breathing. Hehe, that and a fair amount of the guys are pretty dang hot! ^_~

Kinda hard to erase these thought from peoples. I'm one of those peoples on my past days, but now I realize that what I saw on TV was nothing but tiny part of their real life and culture. I just wanted to tell you that so, back to the topic. I love anime firstly because of their artworks, so cute and...humanly....compared to other animations. I also loves animes cause the stories's not just "Heros beat the bad guy and saved the world" kind of cartoons. They got more than that on their stories. The action's thrilling too and above all....they got all the sexy chicks (oh yeah...:D) Enough from me I guess...
the Samaruimist
Have ever show a show and ask yourseif "why am i watching this" :animestun :animeknow
Samaruimist, I merged your thread with the current "What makes us like anime?" thread since they're so similar. Please be sure to look around a bit more before creating new threads. The thread that you may want to create may already exist. ^^ Also, we do expect a little more in most first posts than what you have provided. At Otakuboards, especially in the Anime Lounge, we encourage conversation and discourage short spammy posts. This is especially true for the first post in a thread. Make sure that in the future you include proper grammar and spelling, as well as more content than what you have. One way to do this is to maybe answer your own question and give your reasons. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me or any of the other moderators. -Arvi

Aaryanna
the Samaruimist This is the second time you have created a thread without offering much in the way of conversation. Your first one What is your ideal anime girl? Was merged with another to create this thread: Anime girlz Or What is your ideal anime girl? So I am going to give you the same advise indifference did. When creating a thread you need to provide a more solid post to encourage conversation. Your starting post is encouraging short spammy posts of yes I have watched a show and wondered why I am watching it or no I haven?t. You could have encouraged others to start a discussion by telling us about a show you yourself have watched that had you wondering why you even bothered to watch it. So it's important to read the Rules and FAQ before creating another thread. If you have questions you can pm myself or another member of the staff. So with that in mind I?m giving this thread a new instruction. In addition to answering the initial question tell us what the show is and what it is about it that has you wondering why you watched it in the first place. For example, recently I read a number of the Yu-Gi-Oh manga?s and upon discovering how much was cut out of the show I began to look back and wonder why I even watched the show on TV in the first place. It?s so different since a lot of the violence has been edited out and some events were skipped altogether. I?ve decided that although I no longer like the edited TV show like I use to, it still was enjoyable since it had such positive messages of friendship and trusting in the heart of the cards. I?ve got friends who laugh over the idea of trusting in the heart of the cards, but there is a short story in the manga that is not in the edited version of the show that clearly shows that the heart of the cards is a very important aspect of how they work and a vital aspect of the series. So why did I watch it and still do on occasion? It's the friendship message. Friends are very important to me and I like a show that clearly puts an emphasis on the importance of friendship. ^_^ ~Aaryanna EDIT: Looks like you merged this thread while I was posting r2vq. ^_~ the Samaruimist it's important to follow the rules as now both indifference and r2vq have explained it as well.
bellpickle
It's similar to judging American culture by MTV and Hollywood movies.
And from what I've heard, most Japanese do base their knowledge of American pop culture off of MTV and Hollywood movies. Which is why, aside from President Bush, Michael Jackson is the most well-known American to Japanese highschoolers. (And yes, that info was taken from an actual survey.) As for the topic at hand, it's difficult for me to say. I don't like anime as a whole; as with any other form of entertainment, there are certain series I enjoy and certain series I don't. I think the primary reason I've been an anime fan for so many years is that I'm able to consistently find excellent anime series rather easily; otherwise, I would've lost interest by now.
Perfection
The art-work, the flow, the brilliance, the colours', everything about an anime which makes it look like a masterpiece. Different animes' have different styles, and the different styles' seperate the animes' we watch so it doesn't look like we're watching the same program with a different storyline and new characters. That's also vitally important, the storylines are always, or next to always, very amusing, intriguing, inventive. It's all these little things that bring it all together for me personally.

Guest wallice
The reason i think people watch anime is because it relieves problems with its lol hilariousness and every one sees it as something that they would like to experience in reality the adventure etc. For me i watch it so i can say i wish i was like that, and it makes me want to fight and help people when they need help. cause im like a fighter for hire except no charge i just want to teach people its NOT Nice to pick on people. :animeangr and i like the whole romance thing its interesting. :animesmil

The first Inu Yasha episode titled: The Girl Who Crossed Time and the Boy Who Was Sealed, aired in Japan on 10-16-2000 Then on 8-31-2002 after being translated into English and renamed to The Girl Who Overcame Time? and the Boy Who Was Just Overcome, it aired in the US on the Cartoon Network Adult Swim. And one of the first episodes of One Piece titled: I?m Luffy! The man who will become the Pirate King! Aired in Japan on 10-20-1999. It was later translated into English and renamed: I?m Gonna Be Pirate King and aired in the US on 9-18-2004. Just because a show airs in the US does not mean that it was actually made here. :p Anyway, now back on topic, in addition to what I said earlier, I like anime because of the art style. The way the eyes are drawn and how certain symbols are used to express emotion. With out a picture it?s hard to explain, but to me the eyes are the window to your soul and the way anime uses the characters eyes to help express how they are feeling just makes the show seem more alive to me.
