PM Search

[size=1]I don't want to say how many I have, but lets say that I have an overt tendency to hoard. I have a lot of PMs.

I'd like to see a modofication to the Search section to allow us to search PM's for a message from a particular user, or with a particular phrase. Some way of filtering the PMs we want to see.

Can it be done? Does anyone else see a need for this?

[COLOR=Navy]Yeah, I agree with that completely. I also have a ton of PMs, probably because I'm just too lazy to go and delete them, or I always think they're worth keeping.

Having an option to search through PMs would be an awesome idea, because if I want a particular PM to refer back to, I have to search through all the pages separately. Having this section would save a whole lot of time and effort.[/COLOR]

Although I don't have many PMs (due to the fact that I like everything neat and in its place), that would be an excellent idea for anyone who has an excess of PMs in their Inbox, Sent, or in their other folders. It would save loads of time not having to search through quite a few pages full of PMs in order to find just one.[/size]

I really don't see the point in having a search option. I mean, I have a few pages of PMs but rarely do I need to go back and find them. And when I do, it isn't a big task to go back and find it. It's not like you're searching through different boards, just a couple pages.

And the CTRL+F key isn't a nuissance or anything, it works fine. I really don't think a PM Search function is necessary.[/COLOR]

[color=#4B0082]I don't think this is possible with the current software as it is, but there might be a hack or something out there. Something to look into when we revamp the site.

Anyway, I can't test this myself as I only have 31 PMs spread across four folders right now, but you might be able to change the number of PMs displayed per page. Have you tried tacking on "&perpage=50" or whatever to the end of the page's URL, like you can do with threads? That would at least make searching with the browser easier.[/color]

[size=1]The most you can get with that technique [which is actually &pp for PM's] is 100, no matter what value you put in.

Better, but not there, lol. I was just suggesting it because I thought it might be useful. Generally speaking, there isn't any reason to search through old PM's. But if it could be done, and isn't tiresomely difficult, I don't see why it wouldn't be a good idea.[/size]

Not the best solution, but it can't hurt anything, and it helps a bit.[/color]

Whew, I can't imagine having thirty-one pages of PMs, but then again I'm a bit of neat freak and having any more than a handful of relevant necessary private messages is too much for me. Still it boggles the mind to think that you could look through five hundred PMs per page and have it not being enough for searching purposes, such is one of the disadvantages of hoarding them I suppose.[/SIZE]

[color=#4B0082]The really crazy thing, if you ask me, is that 500 PMs is only 1/40 of the total number you're allowed to save. I wonder if anyone's ever even had that many pass through their PM boxes, let alone be saved at one time.[/color]
