Would my idea be a good one?

The other day, I was reading a newspaper, and a crazy idea hit me. What if a few members of the Otakuboards made a weekly newspaper, concerning members, what's going on in the forums(anime, otaku lounge problems or New hits from the anthology etc,), and concerning World news that seems interesting to members, including small comic strips, advertisements from other users, and abunch more... I know that some may hate the idea, but for me, I think that somehow, it can be pretty good. Of course, I want to know what you guys think. So, does it sound good? Comments please.

One of the columns at Anime on DVD that I really like is this thing called "The Forum Hum." Each week (and this is always in the same thread), someone makes a post highlighting notable & interesting threads from each sub-forum. In AoD's case, the same member does it each week, but I always thought that sort of feature would be even more interesting if the responsibility was rotated through a list of volunteers (much like Retri's Graphics Worm).

Anyway. You'd have to be careful not to slip into The DailyOtaku's territory, and I think it's probably better to start small rather than attempting to include a whole bunch of stuff at once. But it might be kind of neat to have something like the feature I described in the above paragraph. Is that similar to what you had in mind?

If you mean similiar, as in creatinga gag paper like the one Des made, well no, I'm pretty serious about this, heh. And yeah, I'll start little, and work my way up, and yes, I'd like it if I had some co-workers, but first, I need to figure out if I should really do it.

You misread me. I said "the above paragraph," which meant that I was asking if you were thinking of something similar to what I had talked about in my first paragraph. I wanted to know whether I had misinterpreted your post. :)

But, it won't be just about highlighting threads(but yes, that'll certainly be in there).

This is what I had in mind.

Threads this week
Art and/or comic strips (lol, I really wonder about this one)
Anime and Manga
Otaku lounge this week, and World News
Ads(LOL, I can see White's picture in the ads now "Do it right, Do white")
etc.

LOL, so yeah, not all highlighting threads. I don't think one member could do all that like AoD though. So...AoD plus Graphic worm plus User advertisements plus Anime/manga fans plus ( well you get the point)= The Otakan Times! Or some other name I'll think of...

The main thing I was really wondering is, if it was O.K with the mods to do a project like this. And if it is, and I get a positive response out of it, then you'll see what it's like sooner or later.

(I'm sorry Dagger if I didn't answer your question again, I'm a lil' spaced out today, with RPing, IMing, and Planning a newspaper at the same time, LOL) :animesmil

I don't think any of us would have leapt at the opportunity to stifle your creative impulses.
Well, maybe Des--he gets a little gung-ho about his modrod during Happy Hour in the staff forum.
:animesmil

By the same token, my saying "It's fine by me" is different from my saying, "THIS IS NOW THE OFFICIAL OB NEWSPAPER!1!!" But I'm pretty sure that's not the response you were looking for, to begin with.

If you go ahead with this project, I recommend using the OB Anthology forum. That way you can set it up as you like. As Dagger mentioned, we won't regard it as an "official" newspaper, but I'm more than happy for members to create a member-driven project of this kind. ^_^

I think this is a great idea, but if you want it to be successful, you'll have to really stick with it. Especially if you get other people involved; make sure they won't just get bored with it after a short while and quit. I remember something like this popped up a long time ago but it fell apart within a week and barely anything actually got written. So that's my advice.

LOL, yeah, I'll try to keep it inline. Oh yeah, do you mods have any particular name that I could use for it? I'm stuggling on a good name... :animesmil

EDIT: Well, I've went ahead and done the first edition (without co-workers). Hopefully it will get alot better with time. It's posted in the OB Anthology :animesmil

Interesting, most interesting.

It sounds like a fascinating idea Nomura and I'd love to see how it'd work out if you actually manage to get it up and running, my only concern is that if you rely on different people writing different articles then you'd have to make sure everyone's submissions were in before posting the next edition of the "newspaper". Still I am intrigued by the idea and will most certainly keep an eye on it.
