The Battle for San Francisco

The year was U.C. 0079. The war between the Principality of Zeon and the Earth Federation had been going on for sometime now. Zeon forces had already invaded the North American continent and were deeply rooted in several major cities on the continent. The city of San Francisco, California in the U.S. was currently under conflict for control. The battles had just started and Federation Mobile Suit units were on the look out for Zeon insurgence. Little did any of them know, that a Zeon ace squad was on their way to take the city by themselves. Using a radar-disrupting tank as back up, the squad slowly moved into the city, undetected...

Cool current winds blew through the deserted San Francisco streets. The vacant structures of the once bustling metropolis created a soft whistle as the salty air whisked around them. The city was silent. Sea birds perched calmly on top rooftops and phone wires without care. They were the only sound to be heard. Suddenly, a flock of seagulls flew into the air with great urgency in response to a loud mechanical step. Then another, followed by several more. These disturbances were the product of a small Zeon MS unit contrived of two Zaku II units, lead by a single menacing blue Gouf unit. They stepped slowly into the city with great caution on their minds.

The pilot of the blue menace was non other than the famed ace, Sergeant Michael ?Ares? Arestos. His monolithic mobile suit carried a wrist mounted Three-Barreled 35mm Gatling Cannon. The unit was watching observing radio silence for safety, using hand signals thrown by the behemoth war suits to communicate. The concrete ground of the city cracked under the weight of the mobile suits as they advanced on the enemy position deep in the city. Their orders were to take out a Federation outpost near the famous red bridge of the city. These three men were more than enough for the job.

The two Zaku units followed behind Michael as he made his way around the narrow corner of a skyscraper. He then threw his suit?s arm up quickly, signaling a halt. He pointed down the street. He had made visual contact with a tank unit down the road. He signaled his men to go around and scan the area. The tactic was confirmed and they dispersed. Then, the famed war god, ?Ares? awoke and took action. Swinging around the corner, Michael fired two rounds from his automatic weapon, destroying both tanks down the street. It was a ploy. Two orange/white GM units of the Federation swung around the buildings down the street and began firing their mass production beam rifles at the Sergeant. He boosted to his left and dodged both heated rounds, which destroyed a single city building behind him. Boosting back, Michael fired several rounds into the two GM units. He fired 10 rounds into them, five apiece, he stuck both of their sensor units and cockpits. An explosion went off as they fell to the ground. It was a dead give away, and his position was now known. The operation had started, and the battle would soon ensue.

?Amuro Ray and subordinates John Takker, Sean Arrow, Anthony Delon, and Gunnery Captain Christopher Paul, report for patrol. I repeat?,? the intercom droned. The message cracked in its dry monotone before winking out of existence. Amuro and his patrol squad suited up and began the rounds without incident. The days devoid of action had begun to wear holes in the mind of the Federation ace pilot.

?Sir, there?s motion down the street, suspected to be hostile. What is the recommended course of action?? The world began to spark with life as the message poured through Amuro?s cockpit speakers. Quickly he replied, his Newtype body subconsciously preparing for battle.

?Any radar or infrared contact??

?Shit! He?s right down the street! Hostiles incoming!? Chris yelled franticly, ?Tanks, open fire!? Seconds later he and Anthony died in a burst of fiery red passion. The colossal explosion ripped through the air, the light and shockwave bursting upon the Gundam.

?Arrow, Paul, attack them head on ? I?ll flank if you give me enough time, move!?

With adrenaline surging through his veins, Amuro upped the throttle to full and shot down the street. The street behind him was left in complete chaos ? several rounds had already smashed into the surrounding skyscrapers, and civilians had not evacuated the surrounding area. When Amuro strafed onto the road behind the Zeon squad, he was greeted with the death of his diversionary teammates. Shock fought to take hold of him, but his Newtype berserker mind overrode all cause for fear.

?Federation base, this is 1st Lieutenant Amuro Ray reporting three inbound hostiles approaching you. Declare a state of emergency. Send reinforcements ? I don?t know their ability. Out.?

Switched to his beam rifle, he took aim and fired four shots into the backs of the enemy before they took cover behind the adjacent buildings. He was unsure of the damage he had wrought, but his flanking position had bought him at least two direct hits. Following suit with the Zeon attackers, he took cover behind the nearest building and kept his rifle aimed towards their position. They were plotting a course of action, well aware of their pinned location.

Meanwhile, the Federation base was dispatching seven more GMs towards the reported location of the Zeonic intruders.

?Alright men, I need two of you to run down parallel streets towards their location. The rest of you, flank them on perpendicular streets and lay down cover fire. They can?t take all of us. Ray out.?

The plan was set into motion with amazing precision and skill. The two diversionary GMs shot down the street, laying down fire as they went. Simultaneously, the others covered them with their weapons. Independently, Amuro ran from behind with his gun at the ready. They had three directions to deal with, and only three suits.

With his scanners set to maximum, Amuro assaulted their pinned location, hoping to scatter their numbers.

Michael set his back to a now burning building?s skeleton as a new wave of GM?s firing off pop shots at him. He was trapped. He risked a look down the long street way to see a group of seven GM?s encamped. The were using a fallen skyscraper like a make shift bunker. This was bad. Reaching to the back, he had his Gouf toss one of the flash grenades from it?s bandoleer. The small hand projectile crushed into the ground, bouncing a few yards down the street. It caught the eyes of the GM pilots, but they were far to late as the bright flash blinded their suit?s sensors, allowing Michael just enough time to roll out into the street. He began firing his wrist mounted gatling guns, successfully downing three of the seven GMs.

?Back Up! Back Up! Zaku?s one and two, report in on my position.? Michael hollered into his radio, breaking the now useless silence. Not minutes after this, the two aces zoomed into the middle of the streets, machine guns pulled, they began firing into the recovering GM units. They took out one more, but two still remained and returned fire. A blast from one of their beam rifles blew the head of Unit 2, who fell to the ground with a hard crash. Unit 1, in response maxed out his boosters and surged towards the two remaining units with his heat hawk axe drawn, and his spiked shoulder pad charging forward. With this, he destroyed the broken down building they were using as a bunker and slammed directly into one of the GM units, destroying the head and knocking it violently to the ground. He then turned on the standing GM who had drawn a beam saber. Michael heard a ferocious battle cry from the Unit 1 pilot over the radio as he came down with his heat hawk into the shoulder joint of the GM as the GM brought it?s beam saber across the chest of the Zaku unit.

Both units were silent for a moment, then a brilliant orange burst of flame exploded from both units, destroying both the mobile suits and the surrounding area. The sergeant could only watch in sorrow and glory as the ace pilot sacrificed himself in battle. He gritted his teeth and saluted in his suit with honor. ?I will avenge you, hero of the Principality...?. No sooner than this was said, a bright beam of light shot through the air and burned through the side of a building just feet away from Michael?s Gouf. He looked through the burning smoke pillars to see the lit eyes of an oncoming mobile suit... Michael knew what he was about to face... the White Devil, Gundam...

?Sieg Zeon...?
