2010DigitalBoy
What is your pick for greatest song ever? You are only aloud to choose ONE. My pick = Bhoemian Rhapsody by Queen This is the most epic song ever spanning different sounds and practically crossing genres in what is almost an entire musical all in 5 and a half minutes. When someonw is talking about a true performance, this song should come to mind. Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy? Caught in a landslide, No escape from reality. Open your eyes, Look up to the skies and see, I'm just a poor boy, I need no sympathy, Because I'm easy come, easy go, Little high, little low, Any way the wind blows doesn't really matter to me, to me. Mama just killed a man, Put a gun against his head, pulled my trigger, now he's dead. Mama, life had just begun, But now I've gone and thrown it all away. Mama, ooh, Didn't mean to make you cry, If I'm not back again this time tomorrow, Carry on, carry on as if nothing really matters. Too late, my time has come, Sends shivers down my spine, body's aching all the time. Goodbye, ev'rybody, I've got to go, Gotta leave you all behind and face the truth. Mama, ooh, I don't want to die, I sometimes wish I'd never been born at all. I see a little silhouetto of a man, Scaramouche, Scaramouche, will you do the Fandango. Thunderbolt and lightning, very, very fright'ning me. (Galileo.) Galileo. (Galileo.) Galileo, Galileo figaro Magnifico. I'm just a poor boy and nobody loves me. He's just a poor boy from a poor family, Spare him his life from this monstrosity. Easy come, easy go, will you let me go. Bismillah! No, we will not let you go. (Let him go!) Bismillah! We will not let you go. (Let him go!) Bismillah! We will not let you go. (Let me go.) Will not let you go. (Let me go.) Will not let you go. (Let me go.) Ah. No, no, no, no, no, no, no. (Oh mama mia, mama mia.) Mama mia, let me go. Beelzebub has a devil put aside for me, for me, for me. So you think you can stone me and spit in my eye. So you think you can love me and leave me to die. Oh, baby, can't do this to me, baby, Just gotta get out, just gotta get right outta here. Nothing really matters, Anyone can see, Nothing really matters, Nothing really matters to me. Any way the wind blows.
Albert Flasher
Great choice. It's an incredible job and does a superb job mixing rock and opera in the way only Queen could. However, my choice for The Greatest Song Ever is... Cygnus X-1 Book II: Hemispheres http://www.lyricscafe.com/r/rush/034.htm I'd post the lyrics here but the song is so long (18 minutes) that the lyrics would take up to much space, so just click the link. Even then, you can't really appreciate the song until you hear it and listen to all the intricacies and instrumentation that just blows my mind.
2010DigitalBoy
I knew you'd be the first one to post here, Ziggy. Okay, I know I said only one pick, but I lied. Bohemian Rhapsody I picked because it deserves the place, but now it's time for my personal choice. Cassandra Geminni - The Mars Volta This song is long as **** and has the most insane, ranged, and dragged out instrumentals ever. Listening to this CD is like going through an entire life cycle, and this song is the climax. Even if this song itself is as long as some short CDs. I would post the lyrics but... the song is 32 minutes long. And like with Ziggy's choice (by the way, Ziggy Stardust is a pretty sweet song, though I've only really heard the Bauhuas remake) you truly have to hear Cassandra Geminni (yes, there are two n's) to believe it. Morpheus
As much as I'd like to choose something else, Bohemian Rhapsody would be my first choice. I'll concentrate on my second: Black Dog by Led Zeppelin Awesome instrumanetals, amazing lyrics, everything is superb. Plus, at a length of 4:55, it never gets old. Hey, hey, mama, said the way you move Gonna make you sweat, gonna make you groove. Ah, ah, child, way you shake that thing Gonna make you burn, gonna make you sting. Hey, hey, baby, when you walk that way Watch your honey drip, can't keep away. Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh, oh, oh Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh, oh, oh I gotta roll, can't stand still, Got a flamin' heart, can't get my fill, Eyes that shine burning red, Dreams of you all through my head. Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah... Hey, baby, oh, baby, pretty baby, Tell me what you do me now. Hey, baby, oh, baby, pretty baby, Move me while you do me now. Didn't take too long 'fore I found out What people mean by down and out. Spent my money, took my car, Started tellin' her friends she goin' be a star. (uh-uh) I don't know, but I've been told Big legged woman ain't got no soul Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh, oh, ah Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh, oh, yeah All I ask for, all I pray, Steady loaded woman gonna come my way. I need a woman gonna hold my hand tell me no lies, make me a happy man. Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah... Ahhhhhh! Ooooh-ahhhh
Albert Flasher
Good choice Morpheus, although I think that isn't even Led Zepplin's best (Stairway to Heaven!), but a good song anyways. I'd like to make another nomination... Pink Floyd's Wish you were Here So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell, Blue skys from pain. Can you tell a green field From a cold steel rail? A smile from a veil? Do you think you can tell? And did they get you to trade Your heros for ghosts? Hot ashes for trees? Hot air for a cool breeze? Cold comfort for change? And did you exchange A walk on part in the war For a lead role in a cage? How I wish, how I wish you were here. We're just two lost souls Swimming in a fish bowl, Year after year, Running over the same old ground. What have we found? The same old fears. Wish you were here. Come to think of it, the whole 'Wish you were Here' album could be up for the Greatest Song Ever.
DeadSeraphim
Please people, we're looking for quality here. Not epics, or, *gasp'd*, old people music. There's an obvious answer here, and I'm ashamed that none of you even guessed at it. I mean, quite frankly, there is no song, ever, in the history of the universe to rival 'Pretty Fly (For A White Guy)'. Anything else - and I mean anything and you're just deluding yourselves, I'm afraid, and that's all there is to it.

It is, musically, the most beautiful song I ever heard, and the lyrics are deep and powerful.
SkyBlu
hmm...tricky question... just the one song...it would have to be 'My Spirit Will Go On' by DragonForce. Lyrics: Life is a misery, don't know how it's come to be Death, the epitome of all of our days In the past we had no choice to hear or to be the voice Close your eyes and visualise the demon to arise You know that sanity is not as it was meant to be And now that misery has taken a new stand In the land of a thousand souls we will carry on through the rain In the sun we will move along with the memories of the slain When I see this humanity and the evil that they have come to be We've come to the point of no return and you beg for just... One more time to escape from all this madness One more time to be set free from all this sadness And one last time to be the one who understand My soul and my spirit will go on, for all of eternity Foreign the currency, your payment in blood to be Death is the desitny for all of our ways In the dark you hide away for who or what you can't say When I see the power of the demon come alive You know that sanity is not as it was meant to be And now that misery has taken a new stand On the wings of eagles flying staring on to the sun Reaching for the gold horizon when the war shall be won Can you see the debautury and the blade of death that has come for thee In winds of torment forever more you will cry for just... One more time to escape from all this madness One more time to be set free from all this sadness And one last time to be the one who understand My soul and my spirit will go on, for all of eternity In the land of a thousand souls we will carry on through the rain In the sun we will move along with the memories of the slain When I see this humanity and the evil that they have come to be We've come to the point of no return and you beg for just... One more time to escape from all this madness One more time to be set free from all this sadness And one last time to be the one who understand My soul and my spirit will go on My soul and my spirit will go on, for all of eternity and on a guitarist's point of view, this song has one of the best guitar riffs of all time, and THE best solo ever
Albert Flasher
I'd also like to add Free Bird by Lynyrd Skynyrd is one of the greatest songs ever. From the incredible vocals to awesome triple-guitar solo to the meaning of the song, it, quite simply, RIPS. Free Bird by Lynyrd Skynyrd If I leave here tomorrow Would you still remember me? For I must be travelling on, now, There's too many places I haven't seen And if I stayed here with you, now Things just wouldn't be the same Well I'm as free as a bird now, And a bird you can not change. And a bird you can not change. And a bird you can not change. Lord knows I can't change Bye, bye, its been a sweet love. And though this feeling I can't change. Please don't take it badly, The Lord knows I'm to blame. And, if I stayed here with you now Things just wouldn't be the same. For I'm as free as a bird now, And this bird you'll never change. And the bird you can not change. And the bird you can not change. Lord knows, I can't change. Lord help me, I can't change.

Boo
I should be saying Bohemian Rhapsody, but I'd be lying. Though, I will stick with Queen, but then with the song The Show Must Go On. This song has incredibly strong and emotional lyrics and everything in it seems so... perfect. The Show Must Go On Empty spaces - what are we living for? Abandoned places - I guess we know the score. On and on Does anybody know what we are looking for? Another hero - another mindless crime. Behind the curtain, in the pantomime. Hold the line Does anybody want to take it anymore? The show must go on The show must go on Inside my heart is breaking, My make-up may be flaking, But my smile still stays on Whatever happens, I'll leave it all to chance. Another heartache - another failed romance. On and on Does anybody know what we are living for? I guess i'm learning I must be warmer now I'll soon be turning round the corner now Outside the dawn is breaking, But inside in the dark I'm aching to be free The show must go on The show must go on Inside my heart is breaking My make-up may be flaking But my smile, still, stays on My soul is painted like the wings of butterflies, Fairy tales of yesterday, will grow but never die, I can fly, my friends The show must go on The show must go on I'll face it with a grin I'm never giving in On with the show I'll top the bill I'll overkill I have to find the will to carry on On with the, On with the show The show must go on Runner ups are Pink Floyd's High Hopes and Dire Straits' Telegraph Road, because of it's magnificent instrumental part.
2010DigitalBoy
Y'know, I feel like beating an entirely different drum this time (perhaps a bongo) and instead of saying some epic song, I'm gunna strait up say my all-time favorite song, because it deserves recognition! Basket Case - Green Day This song doesn't offer any epic, grandoise musical injiniuses or anything, just some simple chords that anyone could learn to play. But what it does have is great, cathcy lyrics which my dad an I agreed were 'a perfect example as life as a teenager.' It's just a fun song to listen to, and my favorite song ever. Lord Dante
I feel that NItro's Song Freight Train Deserves a mention here. Not so much for the lyrics, But any song with Crystal goblet-shattering vocals, and a four-necked X-guitar solo just HAS to be nominated.
sakurasuka
My song is niether a classic, nor anything really popular. Hm. I've currently fallen in love with The Spill Canvas. My current favorite song by them is Himerus and Eros, but Polygraph, Now! also has its charm. Himerus and Eros. Your tongue is wet with a top secret passion, I hope I am the cause of it. I'll navigate this unsturdy vessel through a Soft sea of pillows and blankets. [...] And I fight the urge to expore, The vastness of your curves I adore. You know I, I hate you. No, I hate you more! You know I, I love you. No, I love you more! Yes it's true. You've brainwashed me, and now I'm more confused. I still somehow hope I end up with you. Yes, it's true. I romanticize every single thing I do. Especially when it comes to you. And I hope to God I mean a little more than the sounds that escape your tired 4am lips. And oh, how I wish I meant a little more than a symphony and breathing and the friction of hips. This song sums up my current love life, sadly. I do suppose that's why it interests me so. Ah, well.
Derald
I find it funny how the creator of this thread stated we only select 'one' song...I need not make any further statements on this subject. As for my 'favorite': Hybrid Rainbow, by The Pillows. (However, I shall follow suit and say that it is only 'one of my favorites'). ____ (English Translation) A deserted island which seems to have mostly sunk Not found on any globe, not even named Yesterday the ship we hoped for came close but It didn?t even come to meet us. We got a little scorched staring longingly into the sun Holding a prism up, I waved my hand but Can you feel? Can you feel that hybrid rainbow? Even we, who weren't chosen up till yesterday Are waiting for tomorrow Our mostly deflated zeppelin is Skimming just barely over the ground The look of the colors which defy description Will probably be mercilessly pecked at by the birds Can you feel? Can you feel that hybrid rainbow? Surely not yet The limit can't be like this at all Not like this at all Can you feel? Can you feel that hybrid rainbow? I wanna believe that here is only partway through I can feel I can feel that hybrid rainbow Even we, who weren't chosen up till yesterday Are holding onto tomorrow. ____ This is a rough translation, mind you, but the meaning can clearly be seen in there. The song itself, in Japanese, sounds very nice, and that's usually what I listen to music for (the lyrics are just an added bonus). I just listen to music for the feelings it conveys, for I believe words are cheap. Try listening to The Pillows if you have any spare time, and I hope you like them.
Guest SameOldScars
For me it would have to be "My last serenade" by Killswitch engage, It's a really heavy song at times but at the same time It's very melodic, and the lyrics inspire me to be a better person. My Last Serenade This revelation is the death of ignorance Tangled in a state of suffocation Slave to self righteousness Damnation is on your lips From sorrow to serenity, the truth is absolution, From sorrow to serenity, its on your head This is my last serenade I feel you as you fall away This is my last serenade From yourself you can't run away It's your choice, point the finger But it's on your head Your destination is a choice within yourself Will you rise or become a slave To self righteousness Open up your heart and gaze within
Revolut1on
My favorite song would have to be "Strength of the World" by Avenged Sevenfold, though "I Won't See you Tonight Pt.1" is a close second. I love how this song starts out sounding like a song that belongs in an old western movie. Then Gates comes in with this awesome guitar riff and the song really picks up. The lyrics always make me feel like I can do anything. It's also really catchy; try listening to this song without chanting STRENGTH OF THE WORLD along with the band, it's nearly impossible. I guess I'll follow the trend here and post the lyrics. "Strength Of The World" My story starts the day they said "she can't be found" the news so dark, heart stopped, I stood silent without a sound It's over, she's finished, mother lies with your father and sister too Cold-blooded, they suffered, shot down by the outlaws after you Sorrow swallows my screams Strength of the world - is on my shoulders Strength of the world - is on my side Strength of the world - the one true beholder Ice in my veins - for those who've died I've seen my family fade away, you've taken my whole life There's nothing left to say Avenge the dead killed all who crossed me in my path Suicidal, I never planned on coming back I want it, I need it, revenge is dripping from my teeth Need nothin', to feel power, and bring the killers to their knees Nothin' ta lose vengeance ta gain (you know I'll never be the same) So taste my breath I'm close behind you (so desperate on your final day) Sorrow swallows my screams Strength of the world - is on my shoulders Strength of the world - is on my side Strength of the world - the one true beholder Ice in my veins - for those who've died I've seen my family fade away, you've taken my whole life There's nothing left to say Sitting in silence with heaven above me I prayed every night by their graves While I search for closure I feel it no longer I can't turn my cheek away I stand before you; I'll sin when I have to But now I leave your side, to avenge my family's pride I've seen my family fade away, you've taken my whole life There's nothing left to say Strength of the world - is on my shoulders Strength of the world - is on my side Strength of the world - the one true beholder Ice in my veins - for those who've died So far forever now alone, a greater punishment on me has been imposed A killer falling from the light, I'll miss my family, I'll never be alright That's all she wrote...

Guest Simpson
This is my first time posting on OtakuBoads. Hi, everyone. My all-time favorite song would have to be Warning by Green Day. The Music Video is perfect. Simple, yet effective. Green Day -- Warning This is a public service announcement, this is only a test. Emergency evacuation protest. May impair your ability to operate machinery. Can't quite tell just what it means to me. Keep out of reach of children, don't you talk to strangers. Get your philosophy from a bumper sticker. Warning live without warning. I said warning, live without warning. Without, alright. Mental homes and safety-self communities Did you remember to pay the utilities? Caution, police line, you better not cross! Is the cop or am i the one that's really dangerous? Sanitation, expiration date, question everything. Or shut up and be a victim of authority. Probably not the greatest song it the world, but most definitely catchy. And, as Tical said about Basket Case, just fun to listen to. As are most songs by Green Day. They'd be number one on my list of favorite bands. Along with System of a Down and Hawthorne Heights. Aaryanna
Ever since I saw the movie An American Tail I?ve always liked this song: Somewhere Out there. It?s just so pretty and I love how the two of them are singing about finding one another.
Somewhere Out There Somewhere out there beneath the pale moonlight Someone's thinking of me and loving me tonight Somewhere out there someone's saying a prayer That we'll find one another in that big somewhere out there And even though I know how very far apart we are It helps to think we might be wishing on the same bright star And when the night wind starts to sing a lonesome lullaby It helps to think we're sleeping underneath the same big sky Somewhere out there if love can see us through Then we'll be together somewhere out there Out where dreams come true And even though I know how very far apart we are It helps to think we might be wishing on the same bright star And when the night wind starts to sing a lonesome lullaby It helps to think we're sleeping underneath the same big sky Somewhere out there if love can see us through Then we'll be together somewhere out there Out where dreams come true
There are other songs that I like but this one has been my favorite for a long time. ^_^

The even more awesome thing is that the Triple-Guitar solo goes for 5 minutes!!!! Mmm-hmmm; THat's my crazy moment of the day gone. The only set back for the song is that it clocks in as just about 10:04. That includes the 5 min solo which means its a bugger for memory (takes up 9,584 kb) so I don't really see myself putting it on my MP3 player.
