E3 06

With the 1st day of E3 wrapping up on G4, I have to say that I'm a little disappointed. I didn't really care much for alot of what was shown. 1st impressions about Metroid, Mario, and Red Steel..... meh.... Let's just say, if I were to judge it right now... I'd pass on getting Wii. As I've said in many threads, I am picky about my games.

Sony and Microsoft's showcasing didn't do much for me either.

As far as games goes.... Only 3 games manage to catch my eye.

MGS4 - All I can say is damn.....
Raiden as the new ninja... Snake suicide. (or so that's how the trailer ended)
Wow....

Halo 3 - They didn't show much, but it was enough to grasp my attention

Heavenly Sword - This kind puts me in the mind of God of War, but with a female leading character that is more acrobatic and less gore.

What were your thoughts? What impressed you? What disappointed you? etc etc...

Edit: Oh yeah, outside of what was shown today, is there anything else that you're looking forward to seeing?

The best thing I've seen was defenitely the MGS4 trailer. The Characters loooked much coller and the end of the trailer was what got me the most.

I really like the Final Fantasy XIII trailer. that girl was kicking a**. Plus, it had an new and much cooler Atb system.

Well, I' like the MGS4 trailer as well. But what really got my attention, and what had me stay for the whole three hours was the game Spore. It looked amazing, especially since you could design your own creatuer and see how it did in the world, and the fact that it was so open and you could do whatever. But what was really cool is how the creator said that you could see other players creations and all the unique creatuers walking around. But the Halo 3 thing was really cool, even though it was only a few moments.

My thoughts on Sony can be found in the Playstation 3 thread. In order to take the system home and pick up a couple of games I'll have to shell out close to a grand. I might get one when MGS 4 comes out if the price has dropped, but unless I win another contest, I probably won't be jumping on this one immdediately.

Otherwise, I was a bit disappointed with the visuals in certain Wii titles, such as Metroid and Tony Hawk. I also wasn't fond of the slow turning in Red Steel, but Zelda and Super Mario Galaxy were awesome. I was also thrilled to see Super Paper Mario and Yoshi's Island 2. Star Fox DS also looked surprisingly good. So, overall I thought there were a lot of things to be excited about during Nintendo's conference. I just thought that it was paced a little oddly, showing Zelda first, and then ending with tennis. The fact that they're going to have 27 playable Wii games is a great advantage though.

Microsoft didn't pull out a lot that surprised or impressed me. But, in order to hold a successful conference after the Sony debacle, all they had to do was no screw up majorly. So, mission accomplished. Some of their games looked really impressive, and the announcement of exclusive content in GTA 4 was nice.

If anything, this year's E3 was indicative of a change in gaming. I think it might be a sign that the order of things is going to be shaken up.

For those who have not seen the trailer for Halo 3 I found a link for your viewing pleasure. If the Mods feel this to violate any rules then please do so by deleting this post. If not click below.

As for me I watched the E3 beginning and I must say. I have this urge to buy a 360 and I still look forward to owning a PS3. I only wish I was rich cause then I would buy all three consoles. My only wish is to see a preview of Neverwinter Nights 2 in the upcoming episodes :)

So far, E3 06 has blown me away with some of the stuff being put out. Namely, the new trailer for my favorite series, MGS4. I always had a general perception of Raiden as a wuss with to many complaints. I've tossed that out the door as soon as I saw him
cut the leg our from under the Metal Gear.
Also the whole deal with Snake's
suicide and Meryle's return
have me pondering. Also, what was the deal with Liquid Ocelot? All of this has me very excited. I just hope it doesn't mean the end of the series, because it's obvious Snake probably won't be making a return... *cry*.

I plan on getting the PS3 before any other console. Namely for the free online play. But I am growing envious of the X-Box 360 owners with titles such as Halo 3 and Gears of War coming soon. Cliffy B. really knows his biznaz. Too Human looks enteresting aswell. Great stuff.

As for the Wii ("Worst Name Ever..." in Comic Book Guy Voice), well... I have to say I'm impressed by Red Steel's sword and gun play. Coolness. Also Twilight Princess and Metroid Prime 3 have me interested, but I'm really not an up to date Nintendo guy. I can get Twilight Princess on my Gamecube when it comes out, so no importance off the bat for me.

What I'm hoping to hear news of is the new Mortal Kombat: Armegeddon title and God of War 2 to keep me on my PS2 for a little while longer. I'm looking out for 'em. Other than that though, Tekken 6 has be keeping my eye on the PS3 along with MGS4 and the new title from Insomniac which is a freaking cool looking FPS. I can't wait.

Time will tell...

See, my main problem with the Microsoft and Sony conferences was also the fact that many trailers showed very little authentic gameplay. Even Metal Gear Solid 4 showed nothing but cinematics. The trailers for Forza 2 and Fable 2 were especially disappointing. At least Gears of War showed real gameplay; it's obvious that the game still has frame rate and screen tearing issues, but it looks pretty good. I thought the level they showed was rather boring, but at least it was gameplay.

Although a lot of the Wii trailers looked underwhelming, it's refreshing to see so many playable games. It's also important to note that until very recently developers were essentially given GameCube dev kits--so I expect a lot of improvement.

And, how about the Super Smash Bros. announcement? From what I read a couple hours ago Snake and Cloud are going to be playable characters. It looked like Nintendogs was represented as well. Neat stuff. Also, if these images are real-time (which they seem to be), then they say a lot about the Wii's potential power.

I'm mostly excited about what's coming to the portables though. The squad-based Metal Gear game for the PSP looks fantastic, along with Phoneix Wright 2 and Yoshi's Island 2 for the DS. Man, there are just countless others too. I've been frothing over the G&G remake for PSP for quite some time, for example.

Oh yeah, and Super Paper Mario for the GameCube will be mine on day one. That is all.

And here I had plans on not getting a Nintendo Wii...... but that comment in bold.... that's enough to tempt the hell out of me.

I'm currently watching the E3 repeat for day 2 because I ended up going to sleep when it was on earlier. (Sad isn't it..... games are putting people to sleep these days ^^)

Question. What's the deal with Okami? Wasn't that supposed to be released sometime this month?

Too sexy to discuss in length. I didn't have much reason to get a Wii either up until these E3 offerings- Fire Emblem alone is worth the reasonable price tag of the Wii [however I do ******* hate the name 'Wii'].

The upcoming console war should be pretty interesting to watch.

Charles, I think your forgetting Kojima's trend of using gameplay graphics for all cinematics. I can't think of a MGS title that has used CG for cinamatics. So I'm very confident that MGS4 is no exception. Also, the scene with Raiden had a bit of a slow down, which may support this fact even more.

Also, I highly doubt Smash Bros. will be including Cloud and Snake into the cast of characters. I surely hope that was a joke.

I just viewed the trailer and I retract my former statement. All I can say is.... "Oh... My... Lord...". How are they going to mess with Snake on Smash Bros.? I mean... What?! This is mind-boggling for me. As much as I love Smash Bros., I can't see how Snake would play any role in it. I just hope they do him justice and don't have Warior farting on him or something.

Wow...

No I'm not. I know that the trailer wasn't CG. He proved that during a demonstration at the Tokyo Game Show if I'm not mistaken. What I'm saying is that the trailer was exclusively cinematics and didn't show any gameplay whatsoever. I would like to see real-time examples of decisions on the battlefield affecting gameplay.

Actually, Smash Bros. Brawl will include Snake as a playable character. Apparently Hideo Kojima begged Nintendo to include him. Nintendo has indicated that there may be other third party characters as well (possibly Sonic, too).

I'm relatively happy with the show thusfar. Sony have pretty much bombed - with a couple of exceptions (MGS4, Final Fantasy XIII), they were completely and utterly disappointing. I think this generation will be the start of a decline for them.

Microsoft were great, with a strong showing for Xbox 360. There are some absolutely amazing games coming out for that system, including titles like Bioshock and Mass Effect. So I was very happy with what they've been showing. Getting GTA IV is also a feather in the cap for 'em.

And Nintendo...well, they pretty much stole the show. The gameplay impressions for Wii have been incredibly positive all-round and we're finally seeing a return to form for the company - an innovative new Mario title (seriously, check out the impressions of that game - particularly the IGN impressions), a Wii-specific Zelda (with more Wii enhancements than previously thought), a new Metroid, an exclusive Wii Resident Evil, an exclusive Sonic (which finally fixes the problems associated with the Sonic Adventure titles), an exclusive Dragon Quest, an exclusive Final Fantasy and so much more.

86 games in development, 27 on the show floor at E3. It was about time for a comeback, I think.

Honestly, day 1 of E3, I was a bit disappointed in all the line ups. (For Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo) Day 2 was still the same, but my opinion was altered a bit for Microsoft and Nintendo. Day 3, Sony has impressed me when they showed MGS4 and FFXIII. But now that E3 has officially ended, I can say I agree with you about Microsoft's showcasing was pretty nice.

Again, E3 has officially ended. It had a rocky start (for all 3 consoles) but in the end it worked out pretty nicely. One thing I noticed is that a couple of games weren't shown at all. Killzone 3 and Devil May Cry 4. I was really looking forward to seeing these titles. 1 game I really thought looked good (other than MGS4) was Assassin's Creed. (that is it's name right?) No gameplay but visually speaking, it looks great.

I probably will end up getting all 3 consoles, just 3 - 4 years apart from each other. I'm cheap.... so I'll be waiting for price drops. ^^

Edit: Heavenly Sword still looks good for a hack n slash.

It looks to me like anyone's game in the next console war. Nintendo's got a great new system, and an inventive way to play games on it. Microsoft is uping the ante with new games, and Sony's PS3 looks like a real winner with a motion controler, HDTV, Blu-ray, etc.
I'm rooting for Sony, myself. But the problem is the price on the PS3. I think it's a bit steep. Is Sony doing the right thing, making it that expsensive? It could be a tough blow to their buisness, but I think they can pull through once again.

I've been watching the E3 speical on G4(AKA Spike TV 2), and I'm excited by what I got to see. But what about "Devil May Cry 4", "Dead Or Alive", or "Okami"?

Speaking of the E3 speical, I was surprised to see Geoff Knightly and Kristin Holt on it. Even more surprised to see Gilbert Gotfried as a special guest.
Wheren't Geoff and Kristin fired from G4?
It didn't feel like an E3 special because Laura and Tina are gone. Unlike most of the people on that special those two ARE gamers. I miss them. :(
