Retribution
Has anyone read this book, and if so, what did you think about it? I'm definitely considering picking it up from the library, and the basic premise of it really grabbed me. The fact that it got the science fiction Triple Crown (the Nebula Award, the Philip K. Dick Memorial Award, and the Hugo Award), and that one of my favorite books, Ender's Game only got two of those three really excites me. So tell me what you thought of it on the whole. I'm not looking for spoilers or a vague plot description, just your views on how good the book was.
Zen
As far as I know, it basically invented the cyberpunk genre by itself. It's apparently worth picking up if it had won that many awards and obviously inspired many authors who came after it was published. I personally would like to find a copy myself. Past that, I can't much help you. But I'd suggest you pick it up, as it seems like it would be a safe investment. Heh.
Raiyuu
Um ... how can I say this without sounding fanboyish ... it's my favourite book ever and I want to be William Gibson? Gibson has an incredibly tightly-controlled writing style. He manages to create a believable near-future world without overuse of technobabble or other sci-fi cliches. And the man practically invented slick, tech-noir cool. We wouldn't have The Matrix without Neuromancer. Definitely pick it up and read it. If you like it, read Count Zero and Mona Lisa Overdrive, the other two books in the trilogy.
Retribution
Thanks for the feedback, Boss and Raiyuu. I just rented a copy from my local public library. So far things are interesting, but Gibson's writing feels somewhat thick. I also feel somewhat frustrated that
Case probably won't be 'healed' again, which means that there will probably be no cyber-action.
But I'm also absolutely loving the descriptions of Chiba City. I have a feeling this is going to be one of my favorite books.
