Naming Troubles

Where I am, it is 1:30 A.M., I have had less than 8 hours sleep in the past 48 hours, and my writing bug is itching. I have a set of guidelines for naming characters in my story. Each country has names from a real language, albeit obscure names that won't be immediately recognized by the average person. Which defeats the purpose of hours of searching for a name that both sounds right and has a definition I want, but I like obscure references.

My problem is, even though there are plenty of baby name sites, I cannot find any sites that have real words that could be used as decent names, and I am too tired to go through a major dictionary search right now (yes, I actually read dictionaries, especially rare word dictionaries).

What I need are good words that could be used as names. Words with a little kick to them. For example, my main character's name is Amaranth, which is an immortal flower held never to fade. A suggestion would not need to be that obscure, but it needs a little depth. Since most of my inspiration for writing comes from video games, I am incredibly tempted to give her the last name of Strife or Squall right now, but that would be plagiarism, which is wrong, and those names are probably too obvious of a choice to get away with. >_< Not to mention the fact that my main male character's name is already from my favorite Golden Sun character. I would love combination suggestions too (example: Ashwind, Everheart).

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated, as my eyes are getting little black spots in front of them right now. And just so this doesn't become a list thread, please give a definition of the word, and feel encouraged to share your own naming trouble or request names. Much love and endless thanks for any contributors!

Okay, I've actually been to sleep, so I can think semi-coherently. I forgot about doing that last night, but thanks for the reminder Doublehex.

Amaranth (I need last name ideas for her): She is strong, acts arrogant but is very aware of her limitations, loves contradictions in herself, never laughs (literally, and there is a reason), smirks all the time, fiercely competitive when it comes to her friend/rival/love? Felix, misunderstood by most, and lacks most feminine heroine traits. She could be considered pretty but far from the most beautiful character in the story, she refuses to wear dresses as they hinder movement, she is biting and cold if she dislikes you, and her reaction to a spider landing on her face while she and Felix were dueling was to calmly let it crawl onto her hand and call it cute. For physical, her hair is crimson and her eyes are gray-violet, and later she will have scars on her left cheek. She knows and uses incredibly difficult and sometimes rare words. She is an apt swordswoman, and there is a misconception that she has been born to wreak revenge on all humanity, meaning a crazy cult exists just for killing her, as they have done with other "Scions." And she is fairly apathetic to her fate, because she sees an equally good chance of dying by accident or sickness as there is dying by the lying, power-hungry cult. Easily accepts whatever happens, rarely cries, and abhors pity in any form.

Character A: Amaranth's adoptive father, whom she calls Teacher or refers to him by "my father", a seven-foot tall green-haired humanoid who can "breath life into metal." He is a smith, but hates the thought of people thinking smiths are ignorant, which led to his love of words that no one knows what they mean. He is not a very emotional person, but cares deeply for Amaranth. He makes the best weapons if the metal inspires him to do so, and is a mace wielder himself. He keeps an air of complete calm around him, and is fairly hardened towards battle situations. He can count on one hand the people he truly trusts, but is civil to everyone who deserves it.

Character B: Perfectly feminine princess, beautiful, kind to all, a healer. Believes that all people are capable of reform and is an idealist. Main purpose is to kill her off later, and to form contrasts between her and her plain, hot-headed, battle-loving, tomboy sister.

That's probably more info than needed on the first two, but I have thought about this for a long time, and this is a serious attempt at writing a novel. Don't be bound by those traits, though, as some of my characters are created because I like a cerain name, which is backwards for some. Any good word suggestions that I can use in the future would be lovely.
