Muad'Dib
Recently (well, for a long time...) advertising, particularly TV commercials, have gotten pretty wacky. Sometimes they leave you wondering "what the hell were they selling?!" or just freak you out. They're not bad necessarily, but they are pretty rediculous. So, if you feel so inclined, please tell about a particular advertisement that you think is just a little strange. It can be a favorite, or one you can't stand. Doesn't matter. To keep up the conversation, be sure to describe it and why you picked it. My pick is the most recent "Fruit of the Loom" commercial. It has the four 'fruits' in a music video about blue underwear. I think it's the most rediculous ad I've ever seen. An apple singing about undergarments? What's going on there? Creative, yes, but a little over the top. (Who thought of it anyway? Or wrote the song?!)
Aberinkula
And medicine today. This is a fake advertisement but still. NEw Hydodop for dry eyes. Sideafects include breast cancer, larangitis, alzheimers, flu, cold, arthritis, and pooor gas milage. I mean why geet sa medicine for something then get something worse. Here's one thats weird. Eggs come from real chickens, beef come from real cows, but sausage comes from jimmy dean. Havn't seen it but it is kind of stupid.
The13thMan
I don't mean to be mean but "rediculous" is spelled "ridiculous" . A lot of advertisement bothers me, but i'll only mention one for now. McDonalds. As a nation we (USA) are the fattest in the world. McDonalds makes me angry sometimes. It's really disgusting. It's marketing campaign is mainly planned to get kids addicted to their food at an early age. For Christ's sake, their spokesman is a clown! Then the happy meal has their little plastic toys that kids absolutely must have. And even now McDonalds is taking advantage of the nation's new concern over health by offering "healthy solutions" like f-ing apple sauce instead of fries in happy meals! That's absolutely ridiculous. When i have children of my own i won't let them watch tv for a long time. I also won't let them eat bad food and start bad habits. Eventually though i'll let 'em at it. Of course i say this now, i wonder how i'll feel when i actually have kids. Well, i gotta go, i got a hankerin' for a big mac. Yum.....what? OMNOMNOMALY
I've been watching the world cup, the one that sticks out the most is the one for David Beckam's new cologne. I'm sure it smells fantastic, however, the commercial pretty much sucks. It starts off with some clouds.. then we see Davey. And he's standing in the clouds.. swirly swirly, camera shots, etc.. then a sweatdrop rolls down the side of his face. All the clouds go away. Cut to a picture of the bottle, and the lady says something about the fragrance by Beckham. I sat there staring at the screen for a bit because I was like "what part of the actual commercial would have given me the hint that it's for cologne?" o_o
TheResplendent
Personally, if i have to see that "Big, Buuuucckkkin chicken!" burger king commercial one more time i'm gonna toss a bowling ball at my TV. It was bad enough when they did it for the regular tendercrisp, now they've renewed it for the spicy one. Great sandwhich, but the commercial is annoying as hell. I worked there for over a year and its terrible. Burgers are like crack to some people. But, in all honesty and not to offend anyone, but mostly tight-wads and idiots go there. Honesty hurts. One commercial (I got two, but this is the first) that I love due to its random, funny content. Red Stripe beer. "Would you say you are an ugly man?" "No,I-" "You are are a very ugly man!" Its just so random. And the guy has an awesome island accent. The other is those beef jerky commercials (I forgot what they're called) where the guys pull pranks on bigfoot. Then bigfoot beats the crap out of them. Funny.

SunfallE
Since this seems to be focusing more on TV commercials it belongs in the Music, Movies & TV section. Now as for the actual topic, I saw a TV commercial for Dairy Queen the other day were a husband & wife pick up one of the shakes there. When the husband takes a bite he starts daydreaming that his pregnant wife gives birth to a son. When she takes a bite she starts to daydream that it?s him who is pregnant and at the hospital while he?s in labor he tells her the standard ?you did this to me!? line. It was totally absurd but oddly funny at the same time. As for one I can?t stand, well the A-1 Steak sauce one where a total stranger is eating someone else?s steak even with the woman sitting there telling him to stop eating. That one is beyond annoying. I mean seriously, if someone sat down at my table and started eating food that was for someone else, I?d punch their lights out.
Momiji Love
"Do not blink.Your mind is being refreshed." AUGH! Papa Smurf
As strange and annoying as those commercials may be...looks like they worked. Look at all of the products and franchises people are talking about here, and how memorable those commercials were. Granted, some of you may not be going out and buying A1 steak sauce, but you are talking about the product, if only in passing in a conversation. As annoying as those commercials may be...they stuck in your head, and that's the important thing. I think the most bizarre commercial's I've seen are either the ones during the last Super Bowl (the FedEx caveman one was pretty good, as are most of the Geico cavemen commercials...cavemen in general are hilarious) or...Comedy Central has some weird ones every so often. (Or, it seems in some cases, simply get the name brand to stick in your mind.) Blaming the McDonald's advertising department for the fact that kids like toys is kind of bizarre. Parents have an individual responsibility for the health and well-being of their children that corporations do not. As nice as it would be for fast-food franchises to be held accountable for the things they are indirectly responsible for, parents do have the final say in the food they buy for their children.

Claire
Some commercials are so bad that they're hilarious. I really like the one for the singing coach thing where it shows a guy and a girl before they used the product, both singing very badly, then after...not singing much better (apparently, they think a voice is good when it's riddled with vibrato). I laugh every time I hear America the Beautiful now. I also love the parts where they show the guy singing for his family at Christmas, the guy singing for his wife, the family singing on the couch (cos every family schedules singalongs as bonding times)...it's ridiculous. The commercials that really annoy me are for FMU (a college around here...so I don't know if anyone else has seen them), where a girl is like "You've seen the commercials, yet you're still sitting there! WHY haven't you called yet?! What will it take!?!" Or the one where the teachers are dragging a graduate out of the classroom and he's whining, "Nooo, I don't wanna go! I didn't think it would go by so fast! I want to stay here and learn more!" I really liked the Ernie the Klepto starburst commercial, too. I thought it was hilarious how Ernie kept stealing things from the other guy and he never even noticed. Lawlz. Then there's that creepy skittles one with the bearded guy...eeew. The infomercialish ones are always hilarious. They make something look so much harder than it really is, such as the one for the collapsible tupperware where the woman opens her cabinet and all of her tupperware comes tumbling down upon her, or the one advertising the pasta cooker thing where the woman is pouring the noodles into the collinder and seems to purposely spill it all over the place. I remember one for a hair dryer stand with an older woman (who apparently has arthritis) trying to blow dry her hair and brush it at the same time, and was struggling to do both and control her elbow pain or something. The Bedazzler commercials are stupid, too. Does anyone else hate Willie Mays and his annoying Oxy Clean Shout? Sometimes I really want to buy what the commercial is selling, though. If you're interested in their item, then their propaganda is working. =(

If you thought that was awesom in English, man you gotta hear it in French - that's literally worth owning a TV for! Another one is the Skittles commercial where these two kids are standing in this back ally (or something) and than this rainbow appears beside one. He puts his head through it, and on the other side is this tiny little island populated by a pleseant little round black man playing the drums or something. He says "Hey mon, want some tropical skittles?" and, as everyone would do, the kid takes them. Now, this add isn't especially funny - but it'd be damn funny if it wasn't a little round black man, it was Dave Chapelle. "Hey mon... want some... magical skittles?" Hilarious! And, of course, most mega-corporation advertising is incredibly stupid and generally over-the-top.

Since there seems to be a lot of talk about Skittles commercials, anyone remember the one with the two 'goat' people eating skittles off of a tree stump? To this day, I have no idea why they used goats. I also have a strong disliking for all these game-development college commercials. Anakoni Stark
I remember watching tv, during this commerical break, I was going to change the channel [cos they were advertising a regengeration cream] but something came over me to watch it, so I sat through it, while they doing shots of the lotion and stuff, the transmission began to break up, I just sat there and watched. by the end of the commerical it read: side effects may occur. I put two and two together and, the end result was I ran around the house screaming in joy. it was an ad for the resident evil apocolyspe film. that was the greatest advert ever. I'm just hoping video game developers and publishers make ads like that. I would post it here but I cant find it. - Leon Fury

Guy 2: Tells Guy 1 to take his wallet. Guy 1: Tries to take Guy 2s wallet. Guy 2: Throws his Sprint phone at Guy 1s forehead, knocking him unconcious. * Guy 1 tries to get up from the fall @ the end of the commercial and Guy 2 throws the phone @ Guy 1s forehead again.
