Farto the Magic
I'm a geek. I play the Star Wars and Dungeons and Dragons tabletop rpgs, the miniatures games of each, Magic: the Gathering, and various other little games here and there. I've been to multiple live-action roleplays where you had to show up in costume or not at all. I spend more time reading on wookieepedia than on most websites. I dream of someday making Mandolorian armor and going to a Star Wars convention. Am I alone in this? How many other geeks are on Otakuboards? If there are some (which I'd lay money on), let this be the thread where we can have conversations about such things. Such as: what ever happened to Sev? The clone, not the jedi. He got attacked, they left him behind. More books were made but I can't find them. I tried wookieepedia, but they got nothing. Also, is it just me or do psionics in Dungeons and Dragons seem they're like tainting the game? I understand some species having it, but seriously, prestige classes? Lastly, how many factions are they going to make in the Star Wars miniatures game? In the next set, they'll make Mandolorians, bringing us up to 10. Does anyone else seem annoyed by this? Generally, this would be the thread to post such things.
TheResplendent
I'm a big time geek. I think being into anime as much as i am already gives me good enough reason to call myself that, but throw in that i'm a huge RPG fan, both traditional and MMO (though i haven't played an MMO in a couple of years), star wars fan, LOTR fan, i'm a fan of most of Marvel comics but X-men is by far my favorite. There are probably many things that me and my friends have discussed about these topics, but one off the top of my head and our latest convo was about whether or not Jedis get payed. If you recall in episode 1, Quai Gon mentions that he has Republic credits to pay Watto (which aren't accepted) but is this a result of travelling with with government officials or is it out of his personal pocket from Jedi missions? They emphasize strongly Jedi being a way of life, and not so much focus on it being a profession, so what do you think the policy is on whether they get payed or not? (or maybe the answer has been revealed already and I just missed it)
Aberinkula
I don't know. I think. I watch...TOTALLY SPIES! I love RPG's. MTG is great. I really want to one time...........LARP!
Corey
...........LARP!
What the hell is 'LARP'? I went to a MTG tournament once. It was hosted in a small shop and anyone could sign up, as long as you were in costume. This was when the Urza's Saga sets were coming out, and I saw someone as the Avatar of Woe, a Stormscape Apprentice, and someones joke of dressing up like one of the Swamp mana cards. Yeah.
cancer
I believe LARP refers to Live Action Role Play. I am somewhat of a geek : p I mean, I love to play Halo 2 online, I like MMO's if I can afford them and they're quality. And I am into Ninja if that makes me a geek, too. I haven't gotten into Magic or D&D, but only because I know of no one else who is personally, and it's expensive, lol.
kalon
What the hell is 'LARP'?
Live Action Role Playing. I would love to do some LARPing. I don't have any good clothes for it, but I have a real sword. It's modeled after Glamdring from The Lord of the Rings. Gandalf's sword, it is. And to Ålpha-Æpsilon, what does Totally Spies have to do with being in a proud state of true geekdom? That show... the way it portrays girls... evil bubbly valley girls... with cutesy, make-up/heart/cutesy themed accessories... *shudders*
Farto the Magic
One of the LARPs I went to (the first) was vampire themed. That one was frickin cool. Basically dress like a goth and you got it, which I can totally pull off. Not to be arrogant, but of geeks, I'd have to say I'm one of the better-looking ones. The other one was mythical, with elves and such. I was a dryad. Of course, only I had a decent costume, and the other players lacking made them lose all seriousness for the game...which was sad since me and another guy set it up. We determined that the flop was due to a lack in leadership. A judge-character with the ability to pwn all. As for if jedi get paid, I would imagine they're funded by the Republic. Entirely. Because they're guardians of the Republic and don't accept money. Judas, how ever did the Republic manage to fund so many jedi? I went to a MTG tournament a couple weeks ago. I beat one guy, then got smacked...a lot. R/B aggro is just not nice. At least not to exploding goblins.
Goodbye, Face
I'm a casual card game player. Right now I'm primarily into Magic, but being good friends with one of the current regional champions of Yu-Gi-Oh, I play a great deal of that, too. I only play during the summers, which is sad because I'm hardly rich enough to play in Type I tournaments and I have to buy a lot of new cards for making my antiquated deck Type II-legal every year. It's maddening, I should start up collecting and playing during school again. The best way that I've been getting my cards is through draft tournaments (where you take a card out of a pack that you want and pass the pack to the next person, then at the end you build a deck and play). I'm kind of happy that I have such a huge reputation at the card shop, though. The shop owner still remembers my name because I used to beat the store's representative pretty much everyday. So, are any MTG players going to the Coldsnap pre-release?
Raiyuu
I haven't played Magic: The Gathering in a few months, and I haven't bought a pack of cards in years, but I still like to casually pwn my old card-playing schoolfriends with my Blue deck every once in a while. I have a card that makes them discard half their deck! I also used to be into Warhammer 40,000 - I was an Eldar player, with a nicely-painted, well-rounded army and no sense whatsoever of appropriate battle tactics. I'm not sure if I won a single game, but I enjoyed painting and building the miniatures. I still have them in a box somewhere - I don't have the drive nor the opponents to actually play any more, but I can't bear to get rid of them after I spent so many hours assembling...

I have a Tau Army that my friend helped me assemble. I found that the battle part was the best, and that the building was more annoying and restricting for someone who wanted to play the game. I had a pretty good grasp of my army's tactics... those were fun times. Mine are also in a box where I haven't touched them in two years. I'll probably give them away when I have no other choice.

I used to play as eldar, before moving on to space marines, chaos, and finally settling on Orks. Orks are great. "s' gona be all shooty, init. Wiv loadsa gunz all ova" - Mekboy Gitsnik Bludtoof, regarding his gargant. two strategies are all the orks have: meatgrinder close combat, and Blow holes in things. But I digress. Wow, I thought I would be the only one. I get such a guitly/strange pleasure from that show. I'm not afraid to say that I'm a geek. A big one. Get this: I read informational books for fun. I keep a pocket-sized dictionary by my bed so I can study when I'm bored. Nothing says fun like finding a new vocabulary word! I've done extra homework that I requested from the teacher. One of my dreams is to learn how to play chess and join a chess club. I'd also like to learn how to play Dungeons and Dragons. Farto the Magic
I tried to get into Warhammer (the non-40k one). My massive army has 8 1/2 lizardmen. 3 saurus warriors, 4 skinks, and 1 skink cavalry. I started by making terrain. I had a kick-*** spawning pool that looked eroded and stuff, but when I put the liquid in, I found out it wasn't a water-tight seal so I had to throw it away. I've been thinking of a new D&D campaign. Its basiaclly Nerull animates every dead thing on generic landmass Dawn of the Dead style (the original, not the remake). Then they end up in Frankenstein's castle. It seems cooler when I say it. Igor's a retarded goblin. I play MTG. I used a W/U control and pwned my friend's B/W control deck. I used windreaver. That guy is absolutely amazing! So many options. Other than that, I got exploding goblins (goblin grenade style), mono-black life gain, wurm timmy, and B/R aggro Rakdos style (its type 2). I'm repairing and restructuring my goblins though. Curently, its too random. I have 1 of forty cards + lands. I like being a mean ol blue person. "Ha! I play this!" "Quash. Now you don't." "Grrrraaaarg!" "Ha, what're you going to do to my 10/9?" "Twiddle. He's tapped. Eat it."

Newer players won't see it coming, and Black still has responses for those that do know what you're up to. I like the versatility of the color, you just can't mind killing yourself a little. There's this really sick land that's coming out in Coldsnap that I want you guys aware of: Dark Depths Legendary Snow Land (Rare) Dark Depths comes into play with ten ice counters on it. 3: Remove an ice counter from Dark Depths. When Dark Depths has no ice counters on it, sacrifice it. If you do, put an indestructible legendary 20/20 black Avatar creature token with flying named Marit Lage into play. Illus. Stephan Martiniere #145/155 No activated ability of note, a first for a land. Just... wow. 30 mana later, which ain't bad, considering, you have an untouchable 20/20 flyer. You win. However the only truly 'orky' way to go about "'fings on dis 'ere battlefield" is just to lead your troops on a "waaagh!" I.e. all rush forward, shooting at whatever, before engaging in close combat. Panache
Wow you are a level 10 gnerd not jsut a geek. But really if you like anything alot you are a geek. So I mean basically any one with passion is a geek so I am I guess. Well the only tabletop geeking ive ever dabbled in was warhammer 40k. It was fun painting the models and stuff for a while. Until I figured out my comp is powerful enough to play warhammer 40k the game. So now I do that. I may nto be a tabletop geek but I am a gw geek. Ask we anything about guild wars and I will know what you are talking about and most likely be able to answer you.
