Yes, I'm actually an employee of the Pirates of the Caribbean Franchise here to advertise all things POTC so we make lots more money. We are oh-so crafty :) Haha. But no, that's all there, so people have a quick directory to POTC information and ways of purchasing products. It's just more convenient.

Onto the real conversation at hand, I find it funny we speak of the romance as if they're real people. It's like when this one woman in the store randomly started talking to me about Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie like she was personal friends with them.

Although, speaking about them like they are real people for the moment, how likely would a Jack/Will pairing be if they weren't owned by Disney (or another company that isn't going to have same sex relationships)? If you talk about them as real characters, I can see Will dumpng Liz for Jack. Pirates get lonely on those seas...

Now these conversations are just getting weirder. I think I'll move things onto a new subject ;) I thought the special effects in this one were actually better than the first. The Kraken looked very realistic, especially with the suctions on its tentacles. Some have already said in the previous thread that they believed the effects on Davy Jones' crew were too much, but I thought it was balanced well. [spoiler]Not sure if this can be considered a spoiler, but still... since they all are damned to service under the guy who basically runs the sea, they kind of became a part of the sea themselves. I'm sure these were all real men once, but after such long servitude, some morphed into sharks or crabs or barnacles and everything else corroded from the sea. Even Bootstrap gradually gained more as the movie progressed it seemed. He had a starfish near his eye too :)[/spoiler]

I am horribly obsessed with Davy Jones.

Not sure if this is really a spoiler, but...[spoiler]Was I the only one who noticed that when the ship went under, his tentacles curled around the hat to hold it on? How cool is that? *heart, heart* The scene with him playing the organ with his tentacles was nice too... ^^; I just think they did a good job with the tentacles XD;;; it was rather convincing.[/spoiler]

About the crew, I found it bothersome that many of them looked really cool, but it really looked like some just had human faces digitally pasted on them. [spoiler] I think it could have been done better. Boot strap and the one guy that was in the wall were particularly well done, as was some of the rest of the crew... but some of the others, the hammer head for example, looked cool as long as you really didn't see them straight on. It was a bit sad. But, Bootstrap's face? Totally loved it. Bootstrap was made of awesome

Tia Dalma was totally hot (and she was in 28 Days Later~ the zombie fangirl in me squees)... and I was glad to see Pintel and Ragetti again because I totally love them.

The movie left a lot of stuff open though ~_~ I'm half afraid a lot of questions will be left unaswered. [spoiler]but mostly I just want to know more about Davy Jones because I really liked him[/spoiler]



And since the soundtrack was mentioned at the top also, it's also totally great~ I actually ran out and bought it right after I saw the movie XD;;;;;

A bit short ~_~ only 12 tracks. But definately worth it. I really like Davy Jones' theme (if you can call it that... the track is titled "Davy Jones")... the music box and Organ music work surprisingly well together~ The CD has actually been playing on my computer non-stop since I bought it ^^; I think my mother is sick of it *laughs*

[spoiler]I noticed this too and was confused, but after Barbossa appeared at the end (which I somewhat predicted would happen), I figured the money and Barbossa would be explained in the third. I do love the fact he's back 'cause he's so much cooler of a villain than Davy Jones :) Even if he's somewhat on the good side now. [/spoiler]Having said that, I just returned from seeing the movie again. You understand it a lot more after the second time. It also goes quicker and you catch a lot of stuff you miss the first time 'cause you aren't looking for it. [spoiler]The first time they go to the Voodoo Lady's house (her name has slipped my mind), you'll see the monkey playing with Barbossa's legs, who is either sleeping on the floor or still dead and the Voodoo Lady hasn't revived him yet or what-have-you. So whether you catch that or not, Barbossa is in the movie a lot earlier than you think.[/spoiler]

And a lot of people asked me why I didn't dress as a pirate. Am I that geeky? ;) Haha, diss on GTK :^D

Watch the credits at the end of the first PotC movie. [spoiler]The monkey stole another piece of gold, so he started a whole new curse or something like that. Barbossa still being around probably has something to do with the whole "end of the world" thing. Although, who would go to the end of the world for Barbossa?[/spoiler] Did anyone else stay until after the credits of the second one? [spoiler]The dog was so cute!! I hope the cannibals don't eat him...[/spoiler]

I was very surprised at the reappearance of [spoiler]Norrington. I didn't recognize him until about a minute after he showed up. He became quite the interesting character in this movie. He might not be anywhere near Jack or Will in terms of looks, but taking off the wig and adding facial hair didn't exactly hurt him....[/spoiler]

This movie seems to just be a way to connect the plot of the first movie to the third. I'm very optimistic that the third movie will actually have more than just cool actiony stuff in it (not that I'm complaining).

Well, I wanted to see what rating PotC got and I was sort of shocked at what it got. It got a D+ rating and as I read why it gives all these reason and excuses why the reporter didn't like it. Naturally. [spoiler]I noticed it was Norrington the moment he spoke, though at the time we could not see him. Like I've mentioned several times before, I liked him that way better. And [i]that's[/i] what was at the end of the credits. I see now... people told me to stay, but not until after I saw it a second time. Maybe when I see it again :P[/spoiler]

Because I was so harsh on Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl when it steamed into port three years ago while so many others around me were hoisting their mugs of grog for the movie based on a Disney theme-park ride, I was determined to embrace Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest with the open mind of a rum-soaked hearty. ''A mirthless course of script beats and busy action sequences'' is what I arggghed back then, mustering only a mild yo-ho-ho for Johnny Depp's glam-rock vamping as pirate/Village Person Capt. Jack Sparrow. I see now that I was wrong about the original: It's a thing of balletic grace, theatrical richness of character, and self-effacing economy of action when compared with the shapeless, weightless, endless sequel -- a version 2.0 that, in its final minutes, portends a future 3.0 of such necessarily staggering, ostentatious extravagance as to bankrupt all but the most iron-walleted of Hollywood producers.

Yes indeed, Pirates 2.0 is a theme ride, if by ride you mean a hellish contraption into which a ticket holder is strapped, overstimulated but unsatisfied, and unable to disengage until the operator releases the restraining harness. There's a big moviegoing chasm between joy and Pavlovian response, and this baby plunges headlong into the abyss in a summer when other equally escapist big deals manage to keep their wits about them.

[spoiler]So, first to the barely intelligible plot -- not that the plot in Dead Man's Chest matters a fig anyway, except insofar as young sweethearts Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley) are once again thwarted from, as they say in classic pirate movies, getting it on. This time what stands between the two photogenic romantic leads is bluster from a new villainous British prig-in-a-wig, some twitty adult who demands that Will do some impossible thing or another to earn his freedom. Or else. (Or else what? Like we'd care? Like Will and Liz are anything other than whirling teacup figurines?)

Meanwhile, Jack (the louche weirdness now ratcheted up by the one-of-a-kind Mr. Depp so that jumpin' Jack is an exotic Cage aux Folles bird of even fancier lip twitches, wrist curls, and rouged feathers) owes a debt to the underworldly lord of the waterlogged, Davy Jones (Bill Nighy). And Jones commands a ship of dead fools disfigured with pulsating, curling, slimy goiters and squid-like protuberances. This army of the deep suggests the very picture of ick by teen standards, conjured through the very fanciest of special effects; the clattering skeletons of the original Pirates look positively minimalist by comparison.

Beneath the tangle of Jones' facial pasta, it's possible ever so faintly to make out Nighy's own familiar, welcome characteristic head tilts, more usefully employed by the delightful British actor in just about anything else he has ever done, but doubtless never more handsomely remunerated. Anyway, as Jack, Will, and Elizabeth work cooperatively, the makers of Dead Man's Chest hurl obstacles in the trio's way with the tenacity -- and undifferentiated agitation -- of shipboard monkeys. Clash after calamity after jokey mishap ensues, with time enough for many of the original secondary players to cash their own paychecks. Remember the BBC Office's Mackenzie Crook as that skinny, scurvy seafaring knave with the loose fake eyeball prone to going astray? There's more eyeball rolling where that came from.

But, see, this is where the cheat between sensation and satisfaction comes in, a substitution only likely to become more commonplace as the Pirates franchise becomes the very model of modern studio brand extension. Without character, where's the consequence? Without consequence, where's the joy? Without an artistic stake in eliciting joy (or sadness, or concern, or something other than a glazed giggle at Depp's finery), there's nothing to keep producer Jerry Bruckheimer, director Gore Verbinski, and their screenwriting galleymates from piling on another big false ending, and another, and another, Caribbean without end, until a pummeled audience begs for a toilet break and, for mercy's sake, a real conclusion.

Discounting adrenaline rush, fright, nausea, and relief as evidence of dramatic effect, there are no consequences in a theme-park ride: You get on, you get jiggled, you get off. Maybe you even ask for another go-round, because it feels so good when the jiggling stops. Difference is, a ride runs a few minutes, while Dead Man's Chest cranks for what feels like an infernal eternity.[/spoiler]

[spoiler]She said it didn't have much irony like the first movie did. Overkill with the graphics on the creatures. She didn't like the fact that Liz did what she did and she would like the ending better if Jack tried to run from (whatever it was) and then get caught instead of staying and fighting it. Plus, she didn't like that Barbossa was the new captain and not Will. She said that it seemed that Will would of been the captian. And she would like it if Barbossa was working for Davy Jones.[/spoiler]

Yes, she has a lot more complaints that really don't make sense. Ugh. :animeangr

Also, my mother said that the reason the movie didn't do so good (in her opinion and the reporters and some others) is because that director was pushed to do the second and the third at the same time. That's why the last one is coming out so earily. Usually it takes a movie a few years to come out but this one is coming out in a year.

My friend turned to me the moment the movie ended and demanded to know how [spoiler]Barbossa[/spoiler] was still alive. The best answer I could give her at the moment was that [spoiler]they [i]are[/i] about to embark on a journey to bring Jack back, so it seems strange to be perplexed by the unexpected non-dead state of the other pirate captain.[/spoiler] I was thrilled that he showed up, though. He is certainly more [spoiler]evil than Davy Jones, and one of my favorite villains.

Plot wise, I can see why people are sort of slamming Dead Man's Chest (hahahaha... you can shorten it to DMC XD but that makes me think of Devil May Cry *end random fangirling*)... the first one was sort of a movie all by itself, though still relates to the second one. The second one seems to have a lot of unanswered questions. Don't get me wrong, I still totally heart the movie.. I can just sort of see where they are coming from in that respect. I just think they are being totally harsh about it ^^; though it seems critics rarely like movies that are actually good *laughs*


But, anyway~ [spoiler] I was surprised to see Norrington ^^; but he was rather good looking O_o; I wasn't expecting that *laughs* It's like if you make a guy dirty and add facial hair, he's somehow ten times cooler (like that dude in LOTR XD; he's not good looking unless he's dirty *laughs*)[/spoiler]

I'm really tempted to pick up (pick up meaning "borrow" from my place of work ^_~) The Legend of Jack Sparrow ^^; I'm sort of hoping it will fill in some holes in the story (sort of like Escape from Butcher Bay for Pitch Black/Chronicles of Riddick... even though I never played that one ^^;; so maybe that's not a good example...)

I considered that too, but if that were the case, [spoiler]that'd make it far too easy to bring people back in the POTC realm. If someone has the ability to raise the dead, she'd be much more popular and handy around the Caribbean than just putting herself out on all the guys who trespass her swamp ("I thought I knew you...").[/spoiler]

Hah. [spoiler]When Jack fell off the cliff and spun around, I thought that was pretty spectacular. It looked real and was thrilling and entertaining. But it compares nothing to the last fight scene with the wheel and such. Not to mention how Elizabeth, Pintel, and Ragetti kept shouting "Sword!" and one would throw it to the other. Now that's teamwork! I really thought Pintel and Ragetti were actual good assets to the movie. It's not like they were thrown in there for the hell of it. They actually added to the plot, so it's fine. More often than not, they caused conflict, but still.[/spoiler]

I totally loved Pintel and Ragetti...[spoiler] it's nice that while they still sort of served as comic relief that they also actually had a point to being there... plus Ragetti's line about the Bible totally killed me XDDDDD [/spoiler]
