What do you think about "emo"?

I guess the title is self-explanatory. What do you think about those kids with the following description?:
- Girl pants. TIGHT girl pants (**shudder**)
- Black make-up
- "No one understands me"
- Hair in face, covering one eye
- obsessed with taking pictures of themselves
- the color BLACK.
- etc. you know what i'm talking about.

edit ---

do you believe they fit that description? is it just a fashion trend or is it feelings? are you "emo"? etc...

It's not my thing to dress solely in black when there are many shades of grey out there,:p and I'm not a very emotional guy at the best of times so that kinda counts me out of the true roots of the movement. I can't see myself ever getting into that scene, but hey, if that's your thing, it's all good.

Emo,
Whatever floats your boat, I guess.

No such thing! Don't use titles! But as far as those type of people go, I think it's a little too dramatic! But they're some of my best friends! I just think they need to chill out and mellow out! Think thins thru, you know!

I duno abput the black, that isn't all that emo. They usually wear blue jeans with white belts. Jackets often as well with either really short or tucked-in shirts. Most emo kids aren't as emotional as the music.

I like tojoke about them :P although most emo kids could probably kick my ***.

I listen to emo music every now and then, it's alright. It's not my prefered genre of music, but i still like some of it.

I kinda like the emo look, but not always. I think the hair over the eyes is lame. Like the singer in AFI, eww.

As far as the people go....::shrug:: I guess i'm fine with them if they're emo because they're actually emo. But if they're just following a fad, then they're totally lame. Why be sad when you can be glad? Yeah....i said it.

Dude, tight pants restrict my movement. I wear the big baggy ones with the chains. My hair doesn't go in my eye, its annoying. "No one understands me." Dude, I don't understand me, so I'll be damned if anyone else does. Make-up and pictures? Doubt it.

I do wear black though. I bleed easily and it doesn't stain. In fact, it shows very little of anything, so washing one is unnecessary until it starts to smell. As for the emotions though, yeah. I can't control myself. Extremes of anger, sadness, and happiness. I love the music too. But not Hawthorn Heights, they're so pop-ish. I'm into MCR. I go beyond that though. Listen to Grendel, it'll scare the crap outta you.

In conclusion, w00t for emo!

Umm...I just think they are suicidal...very suicidal. I also think that we should introduce them Chicken Soup where people live in orphanages and beg on streets. I can't wait to see the shocked look on thier faces when they realise that they spent months of thier life acting like a four-year-old.

I think they don't appreciate how much was done for them.

personly, i like emo boys. they are cute.
dont get me wrong, it can get annoying when theyre always like, "OMG! my life sucks. i think ill go cry."
but some emo kids are nice.
and if youre emo, it doesnt always mean you cut your wrists or want to die.
thats a common misconception.
i know someone thats emo, and shes quite funny, and i highly doubt that she cut her wrists

It seems to me that none of you guys really have a view of emo from within it. People don't cut themselves because they want to die. If they want to die, they get guns. They cut to make them look the way outside as they do inside. I don't cut myself, I'd call myself emo. Its not a fashion thing because I match precious few of the claimed fashion things. I AM emo too. People classify me as emo. They are not always sad. Its emotional extremes, I think.

There may be some people like you who are really emo. Maybe you're where the whole thing started. But... I know that the majority of emo kids at my school - many of whom I've talked to - are 'fakes'.

I don't worry about it, it's just another form of self expression. Some kids are identifying with the emo thing the same way I identified with the new wave/goth thing when I was in high school. The tight jeans and shag haircuts have just replaced the leather jackets, creepers and Morrissey hair I used to have. You know, some kids are into football, other kids are into AFI. Everybody's different and it's all cool.

Having said that, I seriously doubt 99% of the kids who claim to be emo have any idea who Grey Matter or Rites of Spring are.
there are no people like that in the bahamas so I wouldn't really have a solid opinion. From what I've seen they seem like people who need lives and will eventually committ suicide
You guys are harsh. In general, the people who identify with emo fashion and music are middle-class high schoolers experiencing love and heartbreak for the first time. Are they "veyr suicidal"? I doubt it. Everyone goes through rough times, everyone had moments when they feel left out, and everyone wants to belong to something. They identify with the music, they like the clothes--they aren't all about to kill themselves, any more than the goths of yesteryear were exclusively devil-worshipping psychopaths.

Good kids, I guess, I've got nothing against them. The music could be better, maybe, but given my own tastes I'm probably not one to talk. I do think that, when these kids really are going through "rough times," they shouldn't immediately jump to "expressing" it (or feeling the need to do so) with whatever means are nearby, be it listening to a certain type of music or dressing a certain way or even through "creation" (e.g. writing bad poetry). Anxiety, real anxiety, is a time for very sober and thoughtful reflection - there's a REASON why we're anxious, after all. And we do little justice to that reason by flailing wildly around and grabbing on hard to the first thing we see that vaguely looks like it resembles how we feel.

Concerning emo (god, two or three years since I first heard it and the name STILL sounds completely terrible), my worry is that it really WILL end up being just a trend, a "phase" some kids go through, because that would mean that no one learned anything from it. My worry is that five years from now these kids will be thinking that they've "outgrown" thier silly emo phase (which they now know was "really" just posturing and a lot of bluster), in the process completely throwing out everything instructive about the rough times (as Sara says) that led them to it. My hope is, if these kids are really going to be emo, that they might do it in a much more dangerous way than just "expressing" themselves. Silence speaks deeper than screaming.

1. You don't use painkillers. The pain is supposed to divert your attention away from your inner pain, and put the focus on the 'less-painful' physical one[s].

2. I'm not 'emo' or 'goth', but black looks good on me. I wear it all year round. I'm fine, temerature-wise.

3. Common misconception. It's what alot of 'new emo' music is based around, so it's 'fad-ish' I suppose.

4. My emotions are extreme, so are most people's. It just is one of those things, like studded belts, that have been lumped into 'emo' while honestly having little-to-nothing to do with it.

5. See above.

6. Posers =D

7. I... Listen to screamo... Or are you talking about emo? Metal? Or what..? I'm not quite sure I understand you.

8. 'Gothic chicks' indeed tend to be quite good looking. As to why, I've no idea. That question may never be answered.

Hope that helps.

It's because they just look so much better in black than "none goth" girls do! That's my theory, anyway!

Some people who wear black get catagorized as "goth", have you noticed? I used to happen to me all the time! Then I got mad and became "goth" and set them strait with my feet!(the only fighting techniques I use are kicks) They never catagorized in around me again. ^_^

Dude, no matter what they do, I will not tolerate any insults about anybody unless it's made at themselves! Please don't do that again!

However, "emo's" do have a habit of complaining about stuff and not taking action right away. But "emo's" problem's are generally not related to popularity, more like life in general!
