The simpsons is a really good show. Anyone else watch it? It is very funny, and it is one of my favorite mshows. I like to watch the new episodes but they are not on very often. Homer is obssessed with eating doughnuts and he is not that bright.
So who else likes or watches that show?

Mainly I wouldn't put this in this forum but there's nothing wrong with that of course!Yes the Simpsons is a very good show but do they still make new episodes?I thought they just showed old reruns or something or maybe some that they forgot they had in the first place.

First, Azarath, this is the correct forum for this thread. Had it been posted anywhere else, it would have been moved. That said, here's my take on The Simpsons:

I really just don't like the show. I've never been able to see what people found so great about it. I've watched a few episodes here and there to give it a shot and while it had some funny moments, it just doesn't compare (in my opinion) to shows like Family Guy.

So I guess I actually have a question for you: If you are a fan of the show, what is it that draws you to it?

One of the best family-oriented shows of all time... Not to mention the rating
PG-13
.

I really like this show since I was in grade school, especially Maggie... I really like the humor of the Simpsons family. By popular demand, it is still aired live!

The Simpsons, what can I say? The first seasons were the originals and classics, and I think that's because of Matt Groening's influence. When he left, it became a little lackluster. But you know what? I don't care. Despite that fact that it isn't as good as the old ones [and is anything ever, really?] for me the Simpsons manage to maintain a level of social commentary and humour that means that I can enjoy it.

Furthermore, the appeal also comes from the fact that I can watch one episode in the season without needing to see the others. It's a stand-alone, half hour show, which means that for people who are time-poor or attention-challenged, it's perfect.

I'm also looking foward to the Simpsons moviewhich is coming out soon. It is written by Matt G., which is awesome and will hopefully signal a return to some of the awesome jokes and humour more prevalent in the first seasons. ^_^

Though it does say 4 of the episodes that he was credited with writing... 3 of which I wasn't a big fan of.

I liked the Simpsons a lot when I was younger. Ironically I wasn't allowed to watch it, but was enough of a Simpsoniac to get a Bart Simpson Doll, and a whole lot of books. All of them (sans Bart Simpson's Guide To Life - which was stolen in Grade Six :() I still have today. In fact, I can honestly say that I've seen every episode in the first 12 seasons at least once, and every episode in the first 8 seasons at least 5 times. Heh, I still remember the words to "See My Vest" and "Who Needs the Kwik-E-Mart".

I haven't seen any of it's more recent episodes though... I think I stopped watching when they visited Toronto...

He didn't leave, but I think it's pretty obvious that his influence was lessened considerably when he started focussing on Futurama near the end of the 90s. I think this is probably most evident when you compare the two shows - Futurama retained the Simpsons down to earth (so to speak) stories and jokes, while The Simpsons started caving to Family Guy pressure and became more of a sight gag orientated show, clumsily trying to execute it within their 'real family, real problems' framework.

That's not to say Futurama didn't have wacky gags and unbelievable elements, of course, but it maintained that tone that people could relate to - throughout it all, Fry's just a 20th century dude dealing with an amazing, unbelievable 30th century world as best he can, and he and all the supporting characters are likable, and have real motivations. We can relate to them. The Simpsons characters have become more of a caricature of themselves, though with some of them pretty much spouting their old one liners and doing the same **** they always did, with no development - and when an episode does present development, it rarely sticks. Couple this with whacky adventures and humour that's creeping ever closer to Family Guy, and the show's almost unrecognizable when compared to it's first season counterpart.

I'd like to believe this change of tone wouldn't have happened had Groening not turned his attention to Futurama, but just for the fact we got Futurama I'm willing to forgive the guy for it.

Pretty much the only episode of the Simpsons I have seen/remember is the parody of the Raven. I first saw it on Halloween in sixth grade in my language arts class. Then we watched it on Halloween in seventh grade in languages arts. Then on Halloween in eighth grade language arts. Then on Halloween in ninth grade creative writing.

Needless to say I am absolutely sick of that episode. >:/

I don't really want to write off the entire series because of that episode alone, but The Simpsons never really interested me. Everyone would talk about it when I was in middle school, and I think I did want to watch it at some point just so I could have something in common with everyone else. My parents wouldn't let me watch it though, so I'm pretty sure I never really got around to ever seeing it.

I absolutely adore Futurama, though. <3
