Morpheus
I personally use Firefox. To make this a worthwhile thread, there is a question I'd like to pose: Why On Earth Do People Use Internet Explorer Or AOL Explorer? I would say ignorance, for the most part. Most people assume that, since it is named Internet Explorer (or in AOL's case, literally "It's the Internet button!"), it is the only way to access the internet. There seems to be a large group of immensely ignorant computer users (apparently 80% or so source). Of course, the reason I say 80% is that 85% use IE (no numbers for AOL), and while I would say the vast majority use it for the aforementioned reasons, some do actually like IE and AOL, albeit for reasons unknown. Anyway, does anyone have any other theories as to why people use IE or AOL?
DeadSeraphim
To answer your question, Because they just don't give a damn, and it works, and they have no incentive to change browsers so until you make some goddamn incentive stop bitching. I use Firefox, because Safari 2.0 is horse ****, Opera has a terrible UI, and Camino doesn't have decent plugins. So Firefox it is. Yo.
Boo
Internet Explorer, because I just don't give a damn, it works, and I have no incentive to change browsers. I don't quite see the use in using anything else. As long as a browser doesn't slow down everything or have a bad interface, I don't care at all. The only reason why I have FireFox on my computer is incase I can't open certain sites, I can check if it's the browser's problem. Which it never has been so far. If someone can give me a few good reasons why to use FireFox, go ahead. Edit: I just found out one reason: Tabs. They are great for when I'm writing in an RP or whatever. >_<;
Gavin
Interesting, most interesting. Since get a new program called Onpseed a few days ago, I've been going pretty much halves between Firefox and Internet Explorer, as the difference between load times has dropped significantly. Pretty much the only reason I still use IE instead of Firefox is that unlike the Mozilla product, I can view files offline, which is pretty handy if you're trying to write an RPG sign up. For general browsing however I use Firefox more though, OB just looks so much better with Firefox at a reduced font size for some reason.
Desbreko
I use Firefox. Tabs alone make it way better than IE for me, since I tend to have two or three (or more) open at once while jumping around to various sites while browsing. It's a lot easier to deal with than having a bunch of individual entries on the task bar. The mass of extensions available for Firefox is also nice. The Web Developer Toolbar is one of my favorites and I use it quite a bit when writing web pages. Another that I can't get enough of is Adblock. I can just right click an ad banner and disable images from its source domain from loading. Extensions like that really push Firefox ahead of IE in terms of usefulness. Another thing I really like is how I can limit what JavaScript is allowed to do without turning it off completely. Those ads that float around, or pages that disable right clicking or put stuff in the status bar piss me off, so I just disable the appropriate settings and I don't have to take that crap anymore.

Updates are released more frequently, and there are a great number of security plugins. I can't ever remember being prompted to patch IE. Utility plugins are also a wonderful way to make using the internet easier and more productive. I'm currently running the following extensions:

Stumble Upon
Web Developer
Del.icio.us
Video Downloader
Measure
Adblock
IE Tab
Foxy Tunes

I just don't understand why anyone, given the choice, wouldn't run Firefox. Ellerby
Aw.. When I clicked this thread I misread it for What Bowser Do You Use. I'm disappointed. ;___; Anyway, I use Internet Explorer. Why? Firefox sucks. I tried it once and hated it. I'm probably just so used to the look and feel of IE that a change from IE to Firefox is to durastic for me. I realize there is a way to make Firefox look like IE, but I did that and it just wasn't the same. I don't think it's fair for you to say that 80% of Internet Explorer users are ignorant. That's an insult. I know that Firefox is better, I just don't give a damn.
Aaryanna
I primarily use Firefox. The biggest reason I like it, is it protects against pop-ups much better than IE ever did. My mom and I were getting slammed with pop-ups and SunfallE recommended I use Firefox instead. It's so much nicer. I also like it cause you have more options like the one Desbreko mentioned where you can block images from loading or you can view an image separately so you can see it without all the other stuff on the page in front of it. I have still have IE, but I rarely use it. Only on the rare occasion when I run into something that doesn?t work in Firefox. I?ll try it in IE but that?s about it. Ikillion
You know...I use other...because I am special. Its nothing more than the browser that I am give since my parents use SBC or something like that, I tend to grow accustomed to it just because it seems to take what is good in firefox, and what can be said that is good in IE and just puts it all in one tabbed thing. Yet on the one time that my browser tends to act up all wierd like I always go to firefox, because other than having a slightly different view, its just about the same thing. Plus you can change skins which if I may say is just something thats to cool to pass up. There was this one time though, I was fixing a friends computer since he managed to get some nasty bug on it, and I had to... -shutter- use IE to get a patch and it was like hell in a house just trying to get through to the site. IE just has so many flaws its not worth it to me. I really feel bad for you, and I understand how controlling some parents can be. But look on the bright side: In 4 years you can leave with the comfort of knowing to never do that to a kid. And anyway, hasn't AOL finally given in to letting you use different browsers?
Albert Flasher
I used Internet Explorer for a long time. Until my IE freaked out and started really pissing me off. It was incredibly jerky all the time, everything was significantly slower than before, and, most frustratingly, it would freeze and crash if you minimized it or clicked on the back-forward buttons more than 10 times per opening. I can't explain it but damn it sucked. Than I got Firefox and everything was WONDERFULLY BETTER. Still crap, seeing as how I'm stuck with 56k, but significantly faster than IE or anything else I've tried. It also has the incredbly awesome Tabs feature, the awesome search bars that have a whole bunch of options, everything was just superior to IE. I havn't used IE in years, so I don't know if it's improved or not.
kalon
Dear Firefox is what I use. It makes it simple to peruse many websites at quick speeds and works best for most all my needs. Internet Explorer I have, too, because my mom is no computer guru. She knows nothing about computers, which bugs me a lot, but what can I do with 'er? So she has her browser and I have mine And what the H-E-double hockey sticks is up with this rhyme? (Seriously, I have no clue, but I suppose an insanity defense shall do.) IE is too buggy, but Firefox has never failed me. I have no idea why I was rhyming, either, I just felt like it for the moment, and it didn't take long at all, so myeh. So: Firefox good, IE bad, me crazy, and feel free to PM about my stupidity. :animeswea
John
Like most people here, I use Firefox for pretty much everything because of its better protection, speed, and customizability, but use IE for whatever designers are lazy and callous enough to not make their sites cross-browser. Dagger
I use Firefox, primarily because I'm a tab whore; I don't really take advantage of any of its other features. Most of the time when I'm online, I have at least eight or more tabs open. But I sometimes stick an IE window on my secondary (and significantly worse) monitor, so I can check how things display and so forth. ~Dagger~

Tabs are seriously the greatest thing ever--I first encountered them when I tried an AIM plugin some years ago, and I was almost ready to take them as proof of God's existence, haha. Once you get in the habit of using them, there's no looking back. But I've always been the kind of person to keep a ton of windows open at once, so it was to be expected that I'd take to them quickly. ~Dagger~
Horendithas
Until a year ago I?ve always used Internet Explorer. Primarily for the simple reason that it came with my computer and it worked. I?ve never been good with computers so it never occurred to me to look for a different browser. I had heard people refer to Firefox, but honestly I didn?t even know that it was another type of web browser. Then a year ago when I upgraded to Windows XP Pro. One of my friends suggested I use Firefox instead of IE. So once they explained exactly what it was I downloaded it and started using it. The biggest thing I like better is the tab system. I occasionally use IE, but not very often. I like the tabs too much.
Mr. Maul
It seems as if the main reason everyone likes Firefox is because of its tabbing feature. That's pretty much why I like it. Also, back when I still had dialup, Firefox would load pages much faster than IE (it still does). The only problem I have with it is the complex nature of its temporary internet files. With IE, all you had to do was click on a few options and boom! you were right there, viewing all your files. But with FF, it's different. It's not as accessible. Oh, and for those of you who use IE but still have FF (White), if you open up FF and click on Help and then For Internet Explorer Users, it should give you some helpful starters for transitioning. Guest Thorin001
Firefox here. Just far too many features to pass up. I go crazy when I don't have my bookmark's toolbar. It took me a few weeks to get used to the change in look and feel, but after that, I was wondering where Firefox had been all my life. It is shocking and odd to have to re-learn what the right-click options mean exactly. It is annoying to have a completely different set of Options. I would encourage you, however, to at least give it a fair chance and devote a few days just using Firefox. In fairness, IE does have tabbed browsing available now (>_>). I also would say that default IE looks much better than default Firefox, but I could care less what it looks like. So long as I can surf, I don't need all sorts of crazy customization. And John, I believe that the majority of sites are now Firefox-friendly, but there certainly are those annoying ones.
