Deathsye
When I heard this from Attack of the Show on G4TV I was surprised. I mean it is M. Night Shyamalan. The Sixth Sense and all of his other movies and now.... Harry Potter? I am not dissapointted I just was surprised when I heard this. I am expecting Bruce Willis being in it. I don't know what do you folks think?
boothten
I don't really mind it. I mean, Harry Potter and The Order of The Phoenix is the darker of the first five books made movies, and M. Night Shyamalan is known for his darker movies. So, I guess it's understandable. I know, personally, it would be a pain if the Order of The Phoenix was made into some cheery, happy movie, and I know that Shyamalan won't make it so. So, good for him and for the movie I guess? Heh, I'm excited for it to come out nonetheless. =]
Albert Flasher
Wow, how's he going to work some stupid twist into this one? Hard to put an unexpected twist on one of the most read books ever. Maybe it'll turn out that the FBI has been spying on Hogwarts via satalites, and the movie ends with SWAT teams storming Hogwarts and arresting everyone for Witchcraft. Eh, I've never been a big fan of Harry Potter, movies or books, but maybe Shymalan will do something unexpected and make it more watchable for me. Box Hoy
I think he'll do a much better job than this previous director did. Still he's got a style which I think could possibly conflict with the style of Harry Potter. M. Night is definetly experienced though. Signs was a great movie, although the Village was sort of a cheesy attempt to build off of the momentum Signs had. I only saw a little of the 6th Sense but I hear it was good. But yeah, nobody beats the original director from the first two movies.
kalon
When I heard this from Attack of the Show on G4TV I was surprised.
Hate to say it, but Attack of the Show is not the world's most solid news source. They've been going downhill for awhile, too, which is unfortunate. According to all-knowing and completely factual Wikipedia, the Order of the Phoenix director is David Yates. I'm too lazy to put in a link right now, so just go to Wikipedia, look up the OotP movie page and read.
Deathsye
All knowing Wikipedia
Wikipedia is a good site for information but the info is not alway reliable ether. And Attack of the Show actually said it is a possiblity. But, I am sorry I didn't point it out before.

The date is in January of 2005, though, so things could have changed. Gavin
Interesting, most interesting. Well according to the Wikipedia article on director David Yates here, he is directing the fifth Harry Potter movie which is in production as we speak. I honestly can't imagine Warner actually changing a director during production, that's like changing a painter in the middle of a portrait. Personally I don't really care who ends up directing it as in the end I'm not sure how well it'll be translated to the silver screen, I'll have to go back and reread OotP, but given Gambon's performance in the last film, I feel he'll be a detraction in an important role. vegeta rocker
I don't see the problem with the last Harry Potter movie. It changed it's cinematography accordingly and gave the movie a more adult feel. In my opinion they get better every time.
eleanor
Source: Mugglenet.com Last week, M. Night Shyamalan told ComingSoon.net that he has put some thought into directing either of the final two Potter films. Today, our friend Melissa from Leaky has informed us that she's conducted an interview with Shyamalan which will be released this Sunday on their Potter podcast, PotterCast. In a preview posted on their site, the director states he would offer the "greatest protection" on the author's work. From the report: "The themes that run through it...the empowering of children, a positive outlook...you name it, it falls in line with my beliefs," he said. "I enjoy the humor in it. When I read the first Harry Potter and was thinking about making it, I had a whole different vibe in my head of it. [There would be] a lot at stake emotionally. The teaching of magic would be desperately needed, there would be a lot riding on it." M. Night was initially offered the directing job for the first Harry Potter movie, but it conflicted with his movie Unbreakable. He's simply interested in it, but it's definately not confirmed yet.
Fyxe
It'd be an interesting change, if he decided to direct one of the last movies. I, however, thought the best director for the movies so far has been Chris Columbus. The first Harry Potter movie is the only one I can watch beginning to end without getting bored. Ever since, it's been... very shaky.
PaganAngel
It was hard enough for us to figure out how to pronounce "Avada Kedavra" and "Beauxbatons," now they're trying to make us pronounce "Shyamalan" too? The life of a nerd is an arduous one indeed... But I don't really care who directs the movies, because I don't care if Steven Spielberg does it, they could never compare to the books. Short of Rowling directing and the movies lasting 5 hours, there's no way they could fully meet expectations.
Deathsye
But we arent talking about the books are we? And another thing Rowling couldn't do it she doesn't have the skill to be a director. Believe it or not it is hard work. M. Night went through Film School and had to learn everything about how to direct. She could be a consultant to the movie but nothing more. Shyamalan's movies are rarely ever about the twist endings anyway (it really only happened in The Sixth Sense and The Village), and despite the fact that he's apparently not actually directing the new movie, I think he could do a very interesting and effective job if he were. All I meant is the only person who can accurately manifest the Potter magic is Rowling herself, not some second-party director, no matter how many Oscars he has under his belt. eleanor
If he does end up directing any of the future Harry Potter movies, I'd be excited as hell. His movies have always been consistently good, and I think he has a style that could mold very well with the Harry Potter universe. The movies have consistently gotten better (to an extent... I still think the 3rd movie outshines the 4th one), so having M. Night to lead it on would be very cool. Hell, anything better than the first two is great. I don't know whether or not it was Columbus's fault or the bad acting, but I die every time I have to watch either of them.
