Hello, Otaku. I have a question that I would like to ask and this question has been on my mind for about a week now. The reason I haven't posted this thought a week ago is because i've been reading 'How to properly post' and / or because I don't want this thread to be closed due to immature posting, spam, etc... Now, after figuring out how to word my thoughts properly, I think I can ask a quality question and get quality answers (If i'm doing this correctly, that is).

All of us as Otaku Board members [Administrators and Moderators included] has had dreams of becoming something great when we grew up in life, correct? Well what i'm asking is this:

Did you accomplish those dreams you wanted to achieve when you were a child, or did your dreams change as you became older and more mature? And if you didn't have a dream of becoming something great as a child, do you have dreams now?

Hopefully, these two questions leave nothing out. I believe everyone can post on this topic also and keep a good [If not decent] quality to keep the Administrators and the Moderators off my back. Hopefully, everyone will answer this question and we will get more in depth as to the person behind the username.

Now, ground rules. To keep this topic from becoming closed, I believe these rules will suffice:

1. Your post must include what you wanted to be when you were younger or let us know if you didn't have any goals to shoot for. (You must give a description why!)

2. Let us know if those goals you had as a child changed as you matured or didn't change at all. (Description of why or why not your goals have changed!)

3. Now that you're an adult [or teenager], did you achieve those dreams [making progress towards your dreams], or are you confused as to what dreams you really want. (Once again, descriptions, please...)

I know it sounds hard when I put it down like that, but it actually isn't. I ask for the same quality and detail any person would ask for. I don't want some...

"I wanted to be a doctor, I still wanna be a doctor, and now that i'm a doctor I make a lot of money."

...I'll personally hunt you down and snap your neck for [possibly] having the Admin people close this thread for junk like that. :animeangr Just be original. That's all I ask. Why? Because I give the same respect to other people's threads I have answered (Exception being The Acronym game! :animesmil ).

*Also, I will post later but I have to go to classes for military in California [where i'm at now.] Thank you for listening [and hopefully posting]!

**This is the first thread I have started, so I hope it's alright!

When I was young, I had a variety of dreams. Here are the ones that first come to mind...
1 - I wanted to be in the Bible. Yes, the Bible - right after Revelations. So for the longest time, I tried to be as good as I could so that someone could write the "Marta" book and put it in the Bible. I was sure it would happen, too.
2 - I wanted to be taller than my brother. Since he was the older one and got all those benefits, I wanted to be bigger.
3 - I wanted to start a clothing company with hand-made clothes. Keep in mind this is age 8.
4 - I wanted to sing professionally.
The results...
1 - I figured out that I couldn't be in the Bible ( :( ), but I did continue to grow immensly in my faith.
2 - Hahaha. After time, I didn't get taller than my brother, but we're close now. He's almost 18 and I'm almost 16, and I'm still growing, and he might be, too. He's I think a little under 6' or so, and I'm 5'8"ish.
3 - My friends and I actually started to accomplish our clothing line. We sewed a BUNCH of clothes, but we never sold them. How sad.
4 - I did not end up pursuing a singing carreer, but instead I found the trumpet, and I have been working at that ever since. I practice for an hour every day, and I'm doing every band extra curric I can. I guess that's my new goal.
My other new goal is to help people I don't know/people that don't know me. That one's spontaneous - I can't really prep for it. But it's going well so far ;)

Wow, that is funny. And a big dream, too. ;]

The very first thing I can remember wanting to be is a scientist when I was about 6 or 7. Just a general inventive scientist like the wacky ones I saw on tv. Then I wanted to be a news reporter.

As I got into junior high school I wanted to be an International Business major because, well, I wanted to be rich and fancy. In high school I was in a national Business club competition (can you believe it?), which I had fun in, but also made me doubt Business. I stil held onto this goal all the way up into college where everything took a 180. Unlike my previous goals, I realized I didn't want to be anything "glamorous." I changed, and I believe, matured some. I tried out many different majors, and I did a lot of reflecting over this time as to what has made me the way I am, and the kind of job that I can find interesting and meaningful. So I am going to become what I thought I'll never be; I ended up working towards a teaching degree.

I want to be a English Second Language teacher or a Bilingual teacher where I can work with immigrant children. And, perhaps, one day I can travel abroad and teach English in a foreign school that won't abuse or turn me into a slave.

I'd like to know who here had a career goal since they were little, and were able to stick to it and fulfill it.

Edit: I'd like to add that since I was 12 I wanted to go to a certain university; and now I am. =D

Hey, Acheron, don't stress the whole "good posting" thing. Most members here know how to give a decent reply, as long as you supply a decent topic. : D

Anyway. When I was younger, I had goal after goal in what I wanted to do for careers. Each one of them was shot down as I got older because I realized they weren't for me, or it wasn't as easy as it sounded.

For example, a vet. Now, I like animals. But I don't want to cut them open or deal with a sick animal. I think that would be a depressing job. Even though you'd get paid very generously. So... did I become a vet? No.

Another goal I had: Grow boobs. XD Did I accomplish this? Why, yes. Yes I did.

Oh, oh. Here's another goal. I wanted to be a Space Pirate. And I STILL want to be a Space Pirate. Not a Space Ninja, a Space Pirate.

Chillax, Acheron. Contrary to what other's say the moderators here aren't Nazis too often.

My first career choice was Architecture. How this died is pretty simple. I can't draw and I have a long, burning dislike of mathematics, lol. I just daydreamed about it for awhile and spent huge portions of my time studying architectural styles.

So I leapt from architecture into the fast paced, whirlwind field of.. robotics? This fancy just happened to coincide with the first release of Lego's Mindstorm set that I got as a gift and.. promptly spent huge portions of my time on.

Otherwise I settled into becoming a missionary or working at the New York headquarters of Jehovah's Witnesses. This particular goal was slaughtered as my faith atrophied into agnosticism. Again, I spent an unhealthy amount of time studying the Bible and the dogma of the Church to the point that I often sputtered into tangents about religion with my bewildered schoolmates.

A dream from my childhood that I still have now is that I'd enjoy adopting and raising a few children. I was adopted myself so I have a bias towards adoptee rights and adoption in general. I'm fairly certain I'll try to do this in the future. Pity the child I select, lol. ;)

That's about all I can think of now. I'll expand on this later as my other dead and buried goals come back to me, lol.

At least, that's what I was thinking [and how I felt] as I read the quotes above... the two were absolutely true.

:animesigh Yeah, you two are right. To tell you the truth, I just don't want to create a post that's not of quality. Yeah, I know I write well, but i'm also modest. I guess I just got first-time jitters starting a string for others to follow. That's normal right? Well, for anyone else reading my beginning string [including this one], let me apoligize for what I wrote. I'm sorry. I just don't wanna be doing a 'mediocre' job. I believe i'm better than that you know?

Alright, i've apoligized. Hopefully this situation won't be brought up again and I won't act that pent up again.

Now, I believe I owe you all a description of my 'childhood dreams'.

When I was a kid, my childhood dream was to become a lawyer. I loved books on law, I loved writing (As you all can see), and I loved to argue against my mom over who was right and who was wrong. Even though the argument[s] ended with me getting a beating, I thought I did pretty well holding my own. Even when my mom started working double shifts in order to support ourselves (I was about 7 or 8), I would still, always try to think of reasons for why I should become a lawyer. While my mom would work, I'd think to myself, "I should become a lawyer so I won't be by myself all the time." or "I should become a lawyer so I could get a new mommy for leaving me at home all the time by myself." Things of that nature.

Even as I grew up in life, nothing could shake me from my love of becoming a lawyer. I took 3 years of Forensics (Acting, not Crime Forensics), and 3 years of Debate during my Sophmore, Junior and Senior year of high school. I also joined the military (Specifically, The Army) right after high school in order to get college funds, becoming closer to my 'Law Dream'. I was so committed to becoming a lawyer, I bought suits sometimes just to wear them and look as if I was a lawyer (Hopefully, there's someone in OB that was just as committed as me with their goals because i'm sounding pretty pathetic to myself right now as I proof read my writing).

Now that i'm 21 years old, I am currently in college to become a... You guessed it. Lawyer. College is fun and law is challenging but i'm not a quitter and quitter's never prosper. I really want to see if i'm even gonna be a lawyer in the next 10 years but Raiyuu confiscated my time machine for not being nicer in my first post. :animecry: Oh well, I guess i'll just have to tough it out and keep trying right? Law school, here I come!

1. Alright *laughs* I definitely had more than one dream. I had like a million, but some prominent ones would have been..

When I was really young, probably around 4-6, I couldn't decide if I wanted to be a ballerina, because I really loved pink frilly tutus, a fireman, 'cause I thought the hats were sweet and I loved how loud the trucks were, or a frog. Yes my friends, I truly believed that if I wanted it enough, I could become a frog when I was older. So much in fact, that I cut off my own eyelashes with safety scissors because "frogs don't have eyelashes." Yeah I was ridiculously cool, even as a child *laughs*

2. As I got older, like around grade 4 or so, I began to want to be a lawyer, like some other very cool person in this thread =D I really loved to debate and argue, so it just seemed natural for me to get into law. I got even more ambitious in grade 6, and decided that I would just have to become the Prime Minister of Canada. My dreams changed because I quit ballet (which is obvious, grace never accompanies me), fireman wasn't exactly realistic if I wasn't willing to risk my life, annd.. people can't be frogs xD

3. I'm 16 now, and again my dreams have changed. I think they changed when I played FFX for the first time. I was just absolutely enthralled by it, and spent many hours straight gaming. This was when I decided I wanted to be in a field related to video games. More specifically, I wanted to do concept art and character sketches. I still really do, but I also want to do voice acting on the side.. I know, it's probably stupid because these are very hard fields to get into... yet I figure, you only live once, so why settle for anything less than your goal? I'm taking some design courses this year coming up, and I hope I can get some really useful things out of it. Wish me luck, guys xD I'm going to do my best to achieve my dreams. Go big or go home and all that =P

And I just wanted to say that I too dreamed of growing boobs, but I haven't quite been able to achieve that one yet xD Bláse, your story gives me hope. Yey.

Ah...-finishes laughing- that was intresting, I never even knew we were nazi's in the first place. Ah, oh well, moving on >.>;

I really don't know what my age was when I had my first childhood goal but it must have been when I was either 5 or 6, maybe even 7 but yeah. I was really into Sci-fi at a really young age and with my lust for making rather odd things out of legos I wanted to build something that could fly into outerspace.I used to live not to far from an airforce base in california where there were many things launched into space. I remember one day sitting ont he roof with my mother watching a rocket blast off into space. I think it was then that I wanted to do that. Espically with my mom being an electrical engineer and I saw many of the said rocket ships and such.

So some time passed, I began to watch some more sci-fi and began to start playing with many things that involved with robotics and such, so while my dream still relied on making things that went into outer space. Now it more or less revolved around robotics and such, or if that doesnt work, making some kind of thing thats like a wormhole generator, or something that allows people to go really reallly far, really really fast is an easier way of saying it >.>

Yet now, the only other goal I can think of besides that is to try and make it through school, which elementary and middle school was nothing, if the rest of high school is what it was like durring the freshman yeah. I no longer know if I will be able to survive. Now I am afraid to think I have to go through atleast 5-6 years of college, ah, life is cruel to a 15 year old boy T_T

Thats all I can think of for now, I don't dream about a lot of things obviously. May edit later yeah?

Damn, you always say the coolest things before I get the chance XD

This thread is interesting. Acheron shall be awarded 300 OtakuBucks.

I'm an entirely different person than I was as a child, and I can safely say all my dreams have been shattered XD

I'm fairly certain I wanted to be a super hero when I was like 4. Never a policeman. I always thought the robbers were the best.

I recall my first true dream was at 7. I was downright determined to become a Paleontologist after eccesive viewing of Jurassic Park and The Lost World. (it was so funny when I said this to others and they were like Paleo-what?!) I had memorized the height and weight of all the coolest dinosaurs. (I never liked T-rex, was always a raptor person. Still am.)

After that I think I went a little while without much of a plan. Till I was 9.

Now I wanted to "make my own video game." My plan was that all I had to do was crete a stroy, level designs, enemies, characters, weapons, bosses, and all that jazz, compile my ideas, and send them to Nintendo. After that I would be given exactly 2 million dollars.

I recall my little and broter and I jumping on his badass racecar bed and saying what we'd do with the money. I wanted to buy all the consoles.

I became OBSESSED with Nintendo Power magazine at 10. Until 12 I thought Nintendo was like a god and refused to touch a PS2 or Xbox. I'd surely be struck down by Shigeuro Miayamoto XD

So, when I was 10 (and would turn 11 in August) at the beginning of Summer break I decided to write a magazine. Using a lightboard to trace images from NP, I sat down and worked nonstop through the whole break till I'd handwritten a 95-page Nintendo magazine. Complete with Bomberman on the cover.

That dream of writing magazines died whe NO ONE read it. EVER.
****ers >_>
Anywho, I then completed the enemy list for my game (Puzzling) but at this point I had figured ou it takes technology to make a game. So I started my new endeavor. To write a novel.

The novel was Puzzling 2, a sequel to the would-be video game. Every day in the 20 minutes of free time I had in class, and in the times I was bored, i'd write. I had scheduled it to be 100 pages (hand written mind you) but around 94 I faded out of this obsession, especially as I learned that books are typed.

Now I was into anime, but I was still striving for a novel career. Many, MANY attempts.

As I began to get into videeo games early last year, I decided to write reviews for games. My goal was to write 100 reviews for GameFAQs.com. I made it to 22 before I lost interest. Simultaneously I was trying to become a well-known editorial writer for RPGamer.net. I won a contest, but stopped writing cuz I never got my damn poster >_>

Then I found I had a 'knack' (I wasn't that good, but thought I was) for poetry. I spent a LOT of time writing poems. I wanted to become a poet. A little while in OB Anthology stopped that dream >_>

Then just a few months ago i wanted to start a band, but now that dream seems far off as well.

Well, there's my life in a nutshell. Toodles.

I wanted to make videogames. Of course, as I got older, I decided making games was too hard, and focussed on writing, web apps and web design instead. I might've wanted to be a Transformer at some point too, but when giant robot brain transplants didn't look like they were arriving any time soon (not to mention I was growing more attached to my penis and the amazing things it could do - something Transformers will never get to do) I gave up on that dream.

I wanted to point out that that's the funniest freaking thing I've read all week XD For this, I give you 700 OtakuBucks. I know I should PM him, but last time I tried it said he couldn't be PMed.

So, to keep topic...

I forgot to mention that at some point I wanted to collect all the Power Rangers, Beast Wars, Anime DVDs, Graphic Novels, comic books, RPGs, games which Gamespot gave above an 8, consoles, Prog rock CDs, and cool anime pics in the world. Also, at one time I had a goal to be the #1 favorite article writer for theOtaku, but that list seems to change at random.

Thanks for writing! :D
*laughs* Yes Acheron.. Yes I was talking about you xD

And I actually giggled. I'm glad I have your support in my quest for a bosom. GET IT? SUPPORT? GET IT?.. yes. I crack myself up.

I forgot to mention that I always wanted to do something with music. I was in choir for 3 years, and it was pretty well respected, because it was a city choir. I still sing, though I haven't had lessons in awhile, and I am learning guitar. I still would love to have a career in music, but let's face it.. that's even more unlikely than doing something with videogames. Oyvay. But reality is just not as fun T_T I hate being realistic.. so I've managed to avoid it thus far in my life, so my dreams have been allowed to fester and I guess I've just become delirious with illlusions of grandeur? =3
I might've wanted to be a Transformer at some point too, but when giant robot brain transplants didn't look like they were arriving any time soon (not to mention I was growing more attached to my penis and the amazing things it could do - something Transformers will never get to do) I gave up on that dream
you sir, are my hero.

And I just wanted to say that I too dreamed of growing boobs, but I haven't quite been able to achieve that one yet xD Bláse, your story gives me hope. Yey.
Glad to be of service.

Damn, you always say the coolest things before I get the chance XD
Then it's settled, we'll make brain-children together. With our coolness combined, think of the pure Awesomeness.

ANYWAY.
Acheron, we love you too.

Also... I wanted to be a Sailor Scout when I was, what... eight, nine? Something like that. I mean... come on... fighting evil by moonlight and winning love by daylight? It's the ultimate girl super hero team on steroids. I used to make up my own Sailor Scouts and everything.
Plus, they had Tuxedo friggin' Mask on their side. I don't know about you, but I wouldn't want to be on the bad end of that rose.

Considering I'm still a kid in most people's eyes, today my aspirations are more on the side of being a writer. Yeah, yeah, I know... being an author is a common career goal for a lot of budding artists. I don't know. I spend a lot of time writing and just coming up with new stories. I think I'd be really good at writing really screwed up stuff for teenagers, something you don't see too often. I like sharing my crazy ideas with other people. Plus, it incorporates a lot of emotion I have from my day-to-day life... and I can sort of add parts of my own life to my writings.
So, one day I hope to complete at least one novel, just to see how successful I'd be. I think I'd be incredibly bad with deadlines, though.

I'd also like to do something with video games. Once again, very sought after goal by today's youth. But I wouldn't want to actually work with the designing or anything. I think I'd be terrible at that and my patience would thin. However, writing the scripts for the game or voice acting for characters would definitely be in the do-able category for me. I'd simple love being a voice actress. Ah, the perfect job for me. You can show up looking like crap and no one cares, as long as you get your lines out decently and actually show up. : D

There you have it.

Chillax, Acheron. Contrary to what other's say the moderators here aren't Nazis too often.
I guess I should return my uniform yes? ;) Seriously though, it?s true, so it?s not really necessary like both DeathKnight and Blase already said.

Anyway...My first goal was to live on the moon and then later travel to different planets. But sadly I grew up and realized that this goal was not possible. So I went to the next thing I enjoyed. Computers. So I learned about computers and worked for different companies like Compaq and Hewlett Packard before I got a job doing tech support for Microsoft.

Then the reality of third party vendors outsourcing to India hit and with it my job also disappeared. So I went to my next thing I had wanted to do, which was travel. So I got a job as Semi Truck Driver. It wasn?t the same as going on vacation, but I enjoyed driving along the west coast in and a fair number of other states as well.

Another reality check entered at this point and family and legal obligations interfered with my ability to be away from home three weeks at a time. So I came back home, and now I?m looking into a new career once things settle down. I still like computers and one of the companies here is going to be hiring 1300 new people for making chips that are used in cell phones and other electronics. And they have the added bonus of they pay for any schooling you need for the job.

About the only dream I haven?t gotten to yet is the one where I travel to Japan and Germany as I want to visit the gardens and shrines in one and the castles in the other. Though if I get the new computer job coming up, it almost pays as well as trucking did, so those dreams won?t be that far off.

Well, when I was a kid, I always wanted to be able to beat the snot out of everyone and not get in trouble! Then, in the third grade, I discovered the word assassin! I remember thinking, "Assassins kill people and get away with it! Sweet!" I was a very violent kid! That said, I continued this little goal of mine and started putting needles in my arms so I could pull them out and stab people with them, accupuncture style! I was pretty good at it, too! I still think assassins are awesome, but I'm realizing my dream in a more sutle way; Karate! I'm taught to avoid fights by any means nessisary. But if I have to fight, end it quickly and by any means, even if I have to kill! So I have, in a way, realized my dream! I am a warrior capable of ending any fight with a single blow! An assassin with morals and limits, you could say!

Do I even have to point out your sheer coolness, Bláse? Your posts simply speak for themselves.

I'm not gonna lie to you Bláse, I watched 'Sailor Moon' and I enjoyed it too. They were super powerful, uber kick-butt women who killed enemies of all types with their 'moon powers'. My fav Sailor scout was Sailor Jupitur. I loved her attitude when she wasn't battling baddies and I loved her powers when she was. What was it again... Electricity? Anyway, she was kick-@**.

I also wanted to be Tuxedo Mask when I watched Sailor Moon. Mannn, he was a smooth talking pimp who basically melted Serena's heart whenever he walked past. The utter coolness of this guy and how he dressed alone, furthered my dream to become a lawyer. Because of the suit and the way he wore it. I tried to wear an all black suit with a Pokemon blanket at the age of 10 or 11 because it was the only blanket I had long enough. I would tie the blanket around my neck and grab my mom's purple umbrella from her closet. (I didn't have the top hat. Damn.) I jumped throughout the house, pretending I was Tuxedo Mask and thought that I was the suavest man-thing on two legs. However, when I made it to the bathroom and looked in the mirror, I didn't wanna be Tuxedo Mask anymore. [Comparing myself to Tuxedo Mask, himself,] I looked like an underpaid pimp on heroine! :animedepr

I swear... Are you F-ing serious?! Did it Maximize or Terrorize? MAX-I-MIZEEE!... TER-ROR-IZEEE!!! <:rotflmao:> OMG, OMG...
