lets see....

the whole "sensei first name" thing

That is americanization

I heard somebody say they took "American Karate"

What do you call that?

I'm not talking about the martial arts themselves. I'm talking about the way they're taught.

If I ever called Okawara Sensei "Sensei Tom" he might just expel me from the dojo. I'm not talking about the evolution of martial arts.
Is it all about the whole first name thing? And as scary as it is, some people do have "Pete" as their last name. I mean, it's unlikely, but hey, don't count out the possibility.

Also, if you really want to nitpick that badly about something I consider trivial (hey, maybe it's not: maybe the last name tradition has some deep, spiritual meaning I'm missing), then you should realize that Japanese people have their last/family/sur name first. Also, unlike here, people in Japan are referred to by their family name unless further distinction is required, so the last name in Japan is as casual a name as a given name here. You can "Americanize" that two ways: you can either figure the family name is important and say "Sensei LASTNAME" or you can figure that it is just the first name in the person's full name that matters, so when an American tries to keep the tradition of "Sensei FIRSTNAME" he'll use his given name and not his family name.

See the conundrum? Flip your name or flip what is said in Japanese? You're going to get people complaining one way or the other. They should just change their names into Japanese names completely and that'll solve things, haha.

That is true in the surname thing being nitpicky. But in my kendo career, and all my senpais' kendo careers: it has been "lastname Sensei/Sempai" no matter what race they are. I'm pretty sure it is a Martial Arts thing.

Anybody wanna take a crack at "American Karate"?
Hopefully someday Naruto will be uncool so genuine budoka aren't bothered by practitioners of "ninjitsu".
I hope that wasn't directed at me. Ninjutsu (at least spell it right, if you're going to be nitpicky about martial arts) is a genuine discipline, as I described in my post on the first page, and I may be English and practise in the UK, but I am a fully paid-up, registered member of Japan's Bujinkan Honryu Dojo.

(Obviously ninjutsu as portrayed in Naruto is fictional, but - get this - Naruto is a work of fiction, much as you may think it was devised purely to get on your nerves as a "genuine budoka". No one's claiming Sexy no Jutsu is a genuine martial arts technique.)

Basically, Kendoka, you're badmouthing Sojiro (with little more than thready semantic evidence, I might add) and then proceeding to do what you're accusing him of, in causing insult to other people's disciplines.

And no, no one wants to "take a crack" at anything. If you're serious about your martial arts - and you're clearly passionate - shouldn't you be the very soul of restraint?

If what your'e saying is true, you are one of the only people who is actually studying ninjutsu that I have met of an anime forum.

If REAL ninjutsu was widespread like I mentioned all martial arts should be in my earlier post. People wouldn't make stuff like this.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-1de4TZpGfU

because they would know right from wrong in martial arts.

To the moderators, I'm pretty sure this is going to be my last post so here it goes..

if I just followed the little reporting routine, people wouldn't see how my buddy Sojiro is a fake. However; if the thread was left intact, people would be able to see why and how he was a fake.

If any of you are ever in town, look up the MKC and I will be happy to show you that I am not just another Otaku behind a computer talking about how he is tuff.

sayonara otakuboards, maybe I will see you again

You missed the whole point of the posts being removed Kendoka_wannabe. You assumed, based off of a semantics issue that some one is a fake and instead of politely asking them to clarify it you instead insulted them and called them a liar.

The video you linked to is pointless as everyone knows Naruto is not real and things like that are usually made in ignorance or as a fun video to poke fun at stuff.

And another thing, if the information you provided is correct I find it hard to believe that a fifteen year old is an expert on martial arts. I suggest you follow Raiyuu?s advise and learn some restraint. If nothing else you could have used this experience as an opportunity to clear up misunderstandings about the martial arts without insulting fellow members of the boards.
