Charles
Although I've placed an advisory in the thread title, I will reiterate that these videos contain some explicit profanity, so do not click the links if you are either under seventeen or easily offended by swearing. At any rate, I have decided to share these videos because I find them hilarious not because of the swearing (I'm not so easily gratified) but because I can relate. I don't know how many of you played video games before and during the NES era, but back then, some titles were so infuriatingly difficult or just plain stupid that they literally became an exercise in madness. Some of these games, such as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, really frustrated me--especially the underwater dam where you had to defuse bombs. So, I find the little touches in these videos, such as the way The Angry Nintendo Nerd is blowing dust from the cartridge, or trying to reach an impossible pizza, genuinely funny. A lot of you will be turned off by the swearing, but I feel that a lot of the humor is really clever, like the editing in the "Back to the Future" video. Nonetheless, I do think that some of the cussing is actually funny and reminds me of the madness I used to feel when playing these games (although it wasn't nearly this bad lol). Here are the videos: Karate Kid Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest Roger Rabbit Back to the Future Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde Many times we create nostalgia threads looking back at our favorite gaming moments, so it'll be interesting to look at the frustrating points. I, for one, would love to see this guy do an episode dedicated to Battletoads. Battletoads had so much potential. I liked the art style, and the personality of the game. The animation was even impressive--like when your Battletoad's fist would grow when he landed an especially devastating blow. However, once the first level was over, the difficulty skyrocketed on the hovercraft level. You couldn't actually see what was coming ahead of you and placing jumps felt nearly impossible. The whole level relied on memorization and a lot of luck. Once I finally did complete the level, I only had one life left and perished on the next stage--at which point I had to restart the entire game. So, which game would you like to see this guy do? What games did you find severely frustrating or unfair?
silpheedpilot
Ah, man! That guy...He cracks me up and out of sheer morbid curiosity would I want him to check out...Are you ready for this? Super Ghouls And Ghosts. Oh yes. I said it. That game may very well be the hardest game in the entire world, I kid you not. If you say you've beaten it; then I'll beat you...with a stick. That game was beyond hard, it was impossible. The jumping parts were the worst because you'd have all sorts of crazy ghouls and ghosts flying at you and you'd have to throw your lances or axes or whatever other power ups you got at them and then if one of them bastards hit you, it was all over. I mean sure you had another chance, albeit in your skivvies, but even still; one more hit and its back to the beginning of the level for you. Oh yes. That game is hard, will remain hard, and is just down right unfair. A game worthy of The Angry Nintendo Nerd.

I don't think that I ever got past that dam level when I was a kid... those electrified plants in particular just frustrated the hell out of me. Ugh. And yet I kept trying and trying and trying... gamers are such masochists. :) The best part of the TMNT video, for me, was Angry Nintendo Nerd trying to get at that pizza for like a minute and a half. God, the jumping in that game was so completely ridiculous lol. What a total crock. It was also very funny when he kept attempting to jump over that tiny gap, and it turned out that all he had to do was walk over the stupid thing. I remember being so pissed off because of that lol. Game designers were quite evil back then. Zelda II: The Adventure of Link would be a good choice for Angry Nintendo Nerd (if that hasn't been done yet, anyway). When I got the Zelda: Collector's Edition disc, I hadn't played Zelda II in years so that was the game I'd been looking forward to the most. I remembered it being a pretty rough game, but Jesus Christ, I was humbled lol. You need to put in some real work to even have any hope of beating the tougher enemies, much less the bosses... the Iron Knuckles and Stalfos and whatnot could get pretty nasty unless you fought so much that you had Superman-level strength. If Twilight Princess were even half as difficult as Zelda II, then you'd hear so much bitching from gamers weaned on Ocarina of Time lol.
Papa Smurf
Am I the only one who rarely had problems with the underwater level in TMNT? I got to the point where I could rock through that stage with time to spare, and minimal health lost. Maybe that level just clicked with me, I don't know. Level after that, however, pissed me off to no end. Frigging barricades, sewers, limited missiles... Those jumps in the video were pathetic. While I'll give him that tiny gap one, his efforts at jumping in the hole to grab the pizza were downright pathetic; he wasn't even trying. I counted at least a dozen attempts that were easily successful had he bothered to jump at the right angle. My favorite rant had to have been Back to the Future. I rented that game once when I was five or six and even back then, I had no idea what was going on, what the game was about (because God forbid a movie game actually follow the movie's story), what I was supposed to do, etc. All I knew was that the game sucked because there was an entire survival stage based on throwing milkshakes at greasers. I'd like this guy to review...an old Disney Mickey Mouse game on NES. I forget the name of it, though. Something like Mickey's Haunted something or other. Regardless, it featured Mickey and Minnie simultaneously on-screen, was easy as hell for half of the game, mostly due to how crappy Minnie's AI was so you could exploit it by having her defeat bosses while you, Mickey, were safe. It functioned similar to the Ice Climbers from Smash Bros Melee. Mickey jumps, Minnie jumps. Mickey shoots, Minnie shoots. But Minnie doesn't take damage. Helloooo ladder exploits to kill bosses on an upper floor. Fun game up until halfway, when an entire area was a series of doors that warped you back to the start of the game...or earlier levels. That game f-cking sucked. Angry Nintendo Nerd would have a field day with it, I'm sure.
BlueYoshi
Not all of the things that The Angry Nintendo Nerd was ranting about were actually that bad. Some of the stuff he had to say about Back To The Future was based around the things that were going on in-game, such as deadly hoola girls, and blue birds that chase you. Not that the game didn't suck. On a side note, I thought the videos were well made. The Angry Nintendo Nerd did a good job of getting the message across, and to some extent, some of his ranting was quite similar to the kind of things that I would've said. I found it hilarious when he spat on the cartridge for Karate Kid and threw it in the toilet, though his rant on Dr Jeckyl and Hyde was pretty lame; it would have been cool to see a bit more gameplay, rather than him drinking booze or whatever and acting all dramatic. I can really relate with him with the switch between night and day in Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest. I swear, having to wait for that message to come and go, and then waiting for the stupid background to fade from day to night is one of the most annoying things you'll ever come across in a game, especially if your as impatient as I am. And it's beyond stupid how you can't skip that, but you can skip the hints that are peppered around the dungeons.
Desbreko
I missed a lot of NES games, since I grew up during the SNES/N64 generations, so I haven't actually played any of the ones ranted about. But damn, I have to agree about Zelda II, which I finally played on the CE disc. I thought I was pretty good at Zelda games, being able to breeze through LttP without ever dying, and being able to get through the original without dying if I'm careful. I expected to die a few times, sure, but not 25. What really pissed me off the most, though, was that they hid the Life spell. The abosolute most useful spell in the entire game, short of the ones you're required to use, and they freaking hide it. Sure, they give you a little hint if you talk to the townspeople, but the translation is so horrible that it doesn't actually tell you jack about where to look. I did two dungeons without it before I finally came back and stumbled on it. The game got a whole lot easier after that, but was still damn hard.
