The world has changed ? the age of industry has merged with the revolution of magic, where incantations are contained within the magi crystals. Now, the common man can cast the simplest of spells, while those greater in knowledge can perform miracles.

In the world, there are academies that teach the populous of the powers of the magi crystals. The mercenaries of the academies, who were raised and taught within their halls ever since a tender age, are known as the risk breakers. The word risk is not even mentioned in their dictionaries ? the power of magic overwhelms nearly all possibilities of failure. When a faction hired a risk breaker, they are nearly guaranteed success.

That is, before the dawn of the new political age, where nations rule alongside corporations, and both are manipulated by sorcerers. A new age is dawning, and twelve risk breakers will be a part of history, for they will write it.

However, there was a time when these twelve risk breakers were just students preparing for the exam that will determine wherever they will be icons of their time or useless castaways.

And that time is now. Risk breakers, tell us your tale!

?Shit!?

Alex covered his mouth the moment the curse left his lips. Nervously, he turned behind him to see if he had awaken any of his room mates, who were fast asleep over either desk or on their beds. Fortunately for Alex?s survival, they continued to snore peacefully. Sighing, Alex got back to studying his text book. The complexity that was the relation between the magi user and the magi itself never rooted itself too well in Alex?s head. Even after going for tutoring twice a week with Instructor Aki, as well as practicing in the training grounds every other day, he never could wrap his mind around the subject.

Yawning lazily, Alex arched his head to the clock that hung on the wall. It was two in the morning. Within thirteen hours, Alex was convinced that he was going to fail another test, and with that a pat on the back from the Instructor, saying, ?You tried your best. That?s all that really matters.?

?But my best isn?t good enough??Alex murmured under his breath as he trailed his finger below the line of text so that he could stay awake. ?Nothing I do is ever good enough??

Sakura woke up at five in the morning, putting the finishing touches to an assignment that was due that day. She checked over the whole thing again before deciding it was as good as it would get. She slipped it into a manila folder and left it on her table, grabbing her gunblade and sneaking out of her room quietly so as not to disturb her roommates.

She made her way into the courtyard as the sun rose, shining off the morning dew. Sakura enjoyed going for morning walks because it refreshed her and was also for exercise purposes. Her weapons professor walked by. The two stopped and discussed things, the professor checked to make sure she'd been practicing the gunblade techniques he'd suggested, which she had been. They parted and Sakura finished the walk, heading back indoors as other students were starting to wake up.

She started to thinking about the final exam that the last years would be facing in a couple of months. Saying it felt like it was still so far away, but Sakura knew that the time would go before she knew it and it would be do or die time. She just hoped she was ready by the time the mission arrived. Her birthday was only a week away?then it will be her turn to test herself.

She took a deep breath and calmed her nerves, returning to her usual cool, collected state. But exams made her squeamish, especially since it was the exam coming up. Sakura wondered what she should do since there was still time before her first class, and decided to go find Kyosuke for some advice. They were good friends for a long time, and he was always awake around this time. He always was the early bird that caught the worm.

Carrot Burnheart was sitting in a classroom with only one other student, Rinoa Ryuzaki, and their mentor, Instructor Merele Shandala. Miss Shandala was rather young for a teacher, but her bright green, almost twinkling eyes showed that she wasn't to be fooled around with. Her skin was bronze and her hair was dark and tied into a single plait extending all the way down her back. She wore an Instructor's uniform of the color of white and beige.

And this morning, she was going to teach the two female students how to combine their elemental magic skills with their supporting magic skills.

"If you read the chapters I gave you, you will know that it's really rather simple. Please tell me, Miss Burnheart, what kind of magi you need to use?"

Of course Carrot had read the required chapters of the "Elements of Life - Beginner's Guide To Elemental Support Magic" thoroughly last evening, so the answer came right out.

"In our case, as we are proficient in the element of fire, we will have to take a small magi of fire - preferably light orange in color - and a white magi with supporting properties, and junction them together by welding them into a golden ring."

Rinoa looked at Carrot as she finished her answer. Carrot wasn't sure if what she saw reflecting from the girl's eyes was admiration or jealousy.

"Very good, Miss Burnheart. It just so happens that I have two of such rings here for you to practice with."

Instructor Shandala handed the golden rings to the girls, and told them to wear them in their right index finger. The ring Carrot got was quite loose, but still wearable.

"Now, focus on one of the spells you read from the book, and conjure it from the ring."

Carrot remembered a simple spell called "Phoenix Tear", and focused on casting that. Suddenly a small, flickering flame appeared on her right hand. Carrot flinched.

"Don't worry, it doesn't burn you", Instructor Shandala chuckled.

"I know that!" Carrot bursted, extinguishing the spell by putting her hand into a fist. She was embarrased that she had been frightened of a healing flame, but she certainly didn't want the Instructor to think that.

Meanwhile, Rinoa had managed to conjure a protective wall of fire in front of her - a much more complex spell than Carrot's. Now it was Carrot's turn to get jealous.

"Ayame! Wake up!"

"Hmm..?" the girl mumbled, lifting her face off the table. A few pages of notes stuck to her face as she sat up, rubbing her eyes. She let out a yawn before asking what time it was.

"Only five, but still. You didn't finish the assignment 'cause you fell asleep around two," the voice continued to nag. Ayame playfully swatted at the source, giggling as she pulled the papers off her face. One of two tails held out her hat which she accepted with a thank you and put on, adjusting her bangs so they were out of her eyes.

"I got enough of it done... I hope. I'm going to put this book back. Daiya, can you put this stuff in my bag?" she asked her friend. The spirit creature sat silently in front of her before sighing and nodding. She got up and wandered off into the sea of bookshelves knowing that she would never be able to remember where she got the book from.

"Ummm? S, S, S?." she repeated, dragging her finger along the tags on the books with the author?s name starting with S. Without warning, she felt herself collide with something. Looking up, she saw the back of a boy?s uniform and immediately she began to roll apologies off her tongue, one after another, without taking a breath in between.

"I-It?s alright, really," the boy insisted after turning around. He had a small pile of books in hand, short grayish blue hair and glasses, and was quite a bit taller than she was.

"Still, it was my fault. I just can?t remember where this book goes?" Ayame mumbled, scratching her head. She developed the habit of scratching the back of her head or her arm when she was slightly embarrassed a little while after arriving at the Academy, and has yet to be able to break it.

"Oh. ?Water Creatures: An Encyclopedia?, huh? This particular author?s books go in the reference section rather than with the regular books," he explained. She thanked him and turned to leave before realizing that she hadn?t introduced herself.

"By the way, I?m-"

"Ayame. Yeah, I know. We have a few classes together."

"Really? I?m usually very good with faces? I guess I?ve been paying even less attention in class than I thought this year," she giggled. "So what?s your name?"

"? Orias. Kyosuke Orias."

"Nice to finally meet you," Ayame smiled, holding out her hand.

"I notice you the teachers call you ?Miss Ayame?. Why don?t they refer to you by your last name?" he asked out of curiosity while the two shook hands. Her bright expression faltered for a moment, but she recovered quickly.

"I can?t remember it." He raised an eyebrow, but said nothing further. He pushed his glasses further up on his nose and turned to excuse himself, but Ayame walked around to face him again.

"Um? Yes?" he asked hesitantly.

"Come with me!"

"Come with you? W-Where?"

"To the reference section, silly," she giggled, beaming up at him. Looping her arm with his, she turned him around and the two walked towards the other end of the library. Along with way, Daiya floated onto her shoulder having finished packing her supplies back into her bag.

"Kyosuke!" came the call from the library doorway. The three looked over, to see a familiar face. Kyosuke hoped desperately that the someone would help pry this strange girl off his arm and let him get back to his usual activities without being as rude as he would be if he attempted the deed himself.

"Sakura!" Ayame and Kyosuke replied simultaneously.

"You know her?" Kyosuke asked in a slightly defeated tone. Ayame gave him a look, as if asking ?Why wouldn?t I?? before smiling and pushing his glasses up on his nose for him.

"I?ve gotta go put this book away. Tell her I?ll see her in class today, ?kay? And make sure to say hello to me during class so I see you! Bye Kyosuke!" Ayame giggled, taking her arm back and rushing off, Daiya clinging to her shoulder.

"And what was that about?" Daiya yawned.

"I?m a klutz," Ayame giggled, sticking her tongue out as she finally put her book back where it came from.
OOC: Hope this is okay, BKStyles. Sorry I didn?t get to do much with your character Sakura. ^_^; By the way, Daiya communicates telepathically. In case anyone wondered why his lines are in italics.

Lazarus sat at a seculded corner of large open space designated for student recreation. The stars hung high in the sky, and a full moon lit the grass with an opaline luster. It also had the effect of illuminating the book the Black Mage was holding. The tome in particular was a study of applied magic use, focusing on natural attunement to the Magi crystals and force of personal will to manifest the desired effect. Lazarus's curse darkened the air around him, blurring his image against the tree he leaned on. A thick black cloak with a high collar wrapped securely about him, warding off the chill as he turned the pages with his gloved hands.

Glancing up, Lazarus noted the position of the moon, and checked it against the timepiece on his wrist. The device was powered by the magic energy fowing through his body, as was actually how his powers were discovered. He recalled the day clearly. They'd knocked on the door. Lazarus had been in his room, packing. He was to be sent to a far-away boarding school. The magisters had fast-talked his father, who most likely would have gone along with their true intentions regardless. The man wanted nothing to do with the child that had killed his beloved wife.

Walking into his room, one of the Magisters had narrowed his eyes, and the boy was frozen in place. They'd slapped the device on his wirst, and watched as it glowed across the spectrum, and spun wildly, then settled into an onyx color, and matched time perfectly.

With that, the acceptance to the school of Argo Arx Arcanum was complete. The child had been carted off to the academy later that evening, his father all too glad to be rid of the child.

A voice interrupted his musings, the book still in his hand, but un-noticed.

"Shall we begin your lessons, Mr McCloud?"

Lazarus looked up at the speaker, one of the few fully qualified Black Mages in the land. All of them worked for the school. Lazarus stood, snapping the tome closed. The book disappeared under the cloak. "Of course, professor."

The teacher nodded, and motioned for the student to follow.

"You, Mr McCloud are a unique case." The professor, Mox by name, spoke as they walked to an open archway leading into the structure. "Instead of having to teach you new spells, we teach you methods of focus, of control. You are the same as every student here, in that we strive to awaken your latent powers and prepare you for life later, but our approach must be totally different. I'm curious why you chose to study elemental ice magic as well, when your own abilities could be nearly boundless alone. Care to enlighten me?"

Lazarus pondered for a moment, then answered. By now, they'd entered a building, and traversed it's long hallway. The teacher unlocked a door at the end, and they began moving down a deep stairwell into the basement of the academy.

"Because someone who doesn't keep their options open is someone who finds themselves without options when they need some the most." Was the final reply.

"I see. Very well. Today, we'll be working with manipulation of bodies." A final large door opened easily to a wave of a glyphed glove on the instructor's right hand. The sickeningly sweet smell of decay wafted from beyond the threshold. "Specifically, deceased bodies."

"Necromancy." Lazarus breathed. The book under his cloak that was clutched to his chest hissed softly. It's cover of flesh and bindings of sinews shifted. There were few such books, grimoires written in anicent languages, dedicated to studies of dark arts in ages long past. But knowledge was always gained by studying the mistakes and assumptions of those past.

"Correct. We'll test your level of control. I want you to start by using your abilities to dissect this body. Remove the skin, the muscle, split the bones, and drain the marrow."

Lazarus placed the sword that hung at his hip down, leaning it against the doorframe, and stepped forward, calling his curse up, focusing it's power...

It was just another day for Aaron Covais and his best [and few] friend[s], Stephen Jonuvar, practicing their healing magic inside of Stephen's dorm room. Stephen was always the better in healing since Aaron first came here at the age of 13. And ever since then, the two boys have been best of friends, competing and helping each other whenever time permitted itself. Aaron hated to lose at the things he liked to do the most, however, which is the only reason that Aaron has become so powerful with his support magic; second only to his junior/mentor.

Aaron stopped focusing his Healra and asked Stephen a question that he'd been wondering since he got to the Academy in the first place.

"How are you younger than me and your magic is still better than my own?"

"What?!" Stephen said, jamming to his new rock CD from the stereo. He moved his blonde hair from his ear as if he would be able to hear better with it out of the way.

Banging could be heard from the wall adjacent from them; apparantly, Stephen had his music up too loud.

However, Aaron wasn't the type of person to assume control and tell his friend to turn down the music, instead he talked over it...

"I said...How are you better than me in Magic!!" Aaron half yelled, talking over the music. Aaron placed his palm over his platinum blonde hair from irritation.

The knocking on the wall quickened from the continuous repititions, the mystery person obviously irritated from the noise of the stereo. Whoever was knocking on that wall would problably knock it down like last year, when Stephen decided it would be a great idea to play "Dorm Room Basketball" in his room with 2 teams of five.

Aaron shook his head from the noise, only to have it end during his thought process.

Stephen had shut off his stereo, shaking the sweat from his hair due to practicing with his Healing spells. His shirt was off, revaling his toned body as he walked towards the bathroom, obviously to wash the sweat off.

"I said, how are you younger and more experienced than me in terms of Healing?" Aaron repeated.

"Because of you, Aaron." Stephen said poking his head out of the bathroom. His voice just seemed to calm Aaron down. He knew now why he had so much luck with the ladies in this Academy. "If it wasn't for you in this Academy, I don't know if i'd even be this good now. Problably half of this."

*Stephen always was the modest one* Aaron smiled softly.

Stephen put his head back in the bathroom, raising his voice to Aaron to compensate for turning on the shower and washing. "Plus, you have to understand that we push each other to our limits all the time, bud. On and off assignments."

"Yeah..."

"Oh yeah..." Stephen added. "You are stronger than me, now that I think about it."

"How you figure?"

"Dude, you're minoring in Blue Magic." Stephen stated. "Few students are ever caught dead in that class." Stephen chuckled. "You could take my powers if you wanted to."

"Yeah right." Aaron chuckled with his friend although he didn't know if Stephen was joking or serious. "Hey? You nervous about the finals coming up?"

"Are you, bro?"

"Not... real- I don't kno... Maybe..." Aaron's voice had trailed off from indescision.

"What?" Stephen said, "What'd you say?"

"...No." Aaron piped up.

"Good, neither am I." Stephen said.

Aaron laid back first on Stephen's messy bed while his friend finished his shower. He soon became uncomfortable on the bed, remembering that he had snuck his annual girlfriend in the room yesterday...

*Who knows what the hell is wrong with that bed...* Arron thought, sliding to the floor and sitting on his buttocks. He sighed loudly, knowing that Stephen wouldn't be able to hear him with the water splashing over his head and ears.

*Maybe i'm a little nervous.* Aaron thought, pushing the platinum hair from his eyes.

=========================

White, hopefully you're okay with this. PM me if any changes need to be made.

Also, in case anyone hasn't figured it out yet. I <3 using colors to differentiate who's talking. Kyosuke turned back to Sakura with a perplexed look in his eyes, Sakura looked back toward him with a similar look. "What was that all about? You know her?" Sakura asked him, wondering why Ayame had Kyo arm in arm.

"No...i mean yes, she's in our class...i mean she just ran into me before, she was putting a book back and then she just grabbed me," Kyosuke answered, tripping over his words a little bit. Sakura would have been unconvinced if she didn't know Kyosuke so well. It wasn't a mystery that he was an attractive young man, but Sakura knew that he wasn't the type to acknowledge that. Plus Sakura payed more attention to who their classmates were and knew what kind of person Ayame was, therefore figuring as well that it might have had nothing to do with Kyo's looks.

Kyo seemed to attract the attention of a lot of people of both genders, whether it be for his looks, his intellegence, or his family name. However the latter didn't always bring about positive feelings towards him amongst his peers. The Orias name was a well known and dignified one, but because of it Kyo is often accused of having things easier than everyone else.

"Um...so, what are you doing here Sakura?" Kyosuke asked, deciding to change the subject. Sakura replaced her puzzled look and walked up towards Kyosuke. She still looked like she wasn't completely awake yet, eyes still a little heavy and an occaisonal yawn every few minutes. It was only a few minutes to six, but Kyosuke had been up since five. He always believed in a good early start would lead to better focus during the day.

"Well, I was looking for you. I knew you would be up by now, since you don't believe in sleep" She replied.

"I sleep plenty, I suppose i just don't need as much as everyone else. But anyway, I figured you would have been studying for the final exam?" Kyo said, while he finished up putting some books back on their respective shelves.

"Eh, i'd rather not talk about it. You know how I get before exams...i'd rather spend my time doing something else anyway" She said with another big yawn.

Kyo looked over at her and put on a relaxed smile. Sakura's company always made Kyo feel comfortable. He also found it to be a breath of fresh air since Sakura was one of the few people that could match him in intellegence, and they could always enjoy many types of conversations with each other. When it came down to the grades and the academy, they would always seem to be head to head at the top of their class. They had quite a few classes together as well because of their common specialties in summoning magic and elemental magic.

Before speaking again, Kyo reached over to a bookshelf and pulled out a thick, red, hardcovered book and handed it to her. Sakura looked at it for a bit, then reached out and took it from his hands. She looked at the cover and read Chronicles of Faydark: The Tree of Riakath. She put a bright smile on her face almost instantly and looked back up at Kyosuke who was already smiling at her, knowing how happy it was going to make her.

"This is book four! I didn't know it came out already! It's ok if i borrow it?" Sakura asked, hugging the book to her chest.

Kyosuke pushed his glasses up into place with his middle and ring fingers. "It's yours. I had the library order an extra copy. I figured it would occupy your time in a more enjoyable manner. Though I have to say i don't see what everyone sees in these books." he said.

"Well, maybe you should consider reading for personal enjoyment sometime, instead of only reading all those academy texts. I should let you borrow em sometime! Thanks to you i have them all now, at least until the last two books come out" Sakura replied, already reading the inside cover.

She had been reading the Chronicles of Faydark books since the first one. The books were fictitious stories about the times before Magi and Relics, when magic was casted only by those bestowed with special power. They were fantasy books in a manner of speaking, with infectious storylines and colorful characters. Kyosuke on the other hand never got into reading for personal matters other than for learning purposes or studying.

Before they could say anything else to each other however, the alarm on Sakura's watch went off. "Oops, we better get going or we'll be late for class!" Sakura said, turning her alarm off.

"Wow, that time already? Time always seems to move quicker early in the morning. You go on ahead, i still have a few things to take care of here." Kyosuke responded.

"Ok, but don't be late," Sakura said, turning around to head out the door. Kyo watched Sakura leave, her purplish hair swaying back and forth as she walked. Kyo had always thought Sakura was pretty, but never actually had any romantic feelings toward her. It was pretty much the popular thought around the academy of anyone who has seen her or knew her. Kyo snapped himself out of it and went back to finishing up. It wasen't a few seconds before Kyo looked up and thought to himself something that he just remembered.

'Hm...that girl, Ayame...what exactly was she talking to?' Kyo thought to himself, as he remembered hearing her speaking to someone or something before she bumped into him. Kyo again snapped himself out of that train of thought and went back to his business.

OoC: Good Gawd... sorry it took me so long to reply... been so busy. @.@ Anyways, tried my best... so if I need to change anything, just say so. Oh and it's okay if you used my character, Sandy... Rinoa needs some friends. XD

~*~

To her sudden surprise, Rinoa had suddenly conjured a fire wall of protection in front of the entire room. It wasn't that hard... all she did was create a small magi of flame and combine it with some healing magi, thus making a complete protection shield that would defend from any upcoming attack.

After a few minutes of holding up the flame barrier, she let it simmer down back to the golden ring and slowly placed her hands in front of her face, astonished that she had actually done something so difficult as that. At first the classroom was silent but then a light applause was heard, causing both Rinoa and the other student, Carrot, to look at Instructor Shandala clapping her hands together. "Well done, Miss Ryuzaki," she finally said, "Well done. That spell that you have just created is one that isn't easily done... may I ask just exactly what you did?"

Rinoa ruffled her shiny blue hair on the back of her head, trying to explain exactly how she just did it... when she really didn't know. "Uh... well..." she stuttered, "...I read the chapters you gave us and a little bit further, explaining that if you add a generous amount of both magi together then you can create a wall of protective fire." She then looked at Carrot, who was crossing her arms and looking a bit angry... jealousy, as some would call it.

Instructor Shandala then put her hands on her hips and smiled a bit, quite amused at what was happening between the two. "Well then, Miss Ryuzaki... if you read ahead," she then paused and put her right index finger on her chin, "... then would you explain to me why you need the golden ring to help cast your spell?"

...Crap. Exactly what Rinoa didn't need, her instructor asking her something on what she got bored reading. Sure she read ahead on how to conjure the spell... but not really on why she needed the ring to help her. She twiddled her sweaty fingers on her uniform shirt, wondering what to say. "W...well... you see...."

"You need the golden ring to help cast spells because it focuses all your energy into one being and helps to save magi energy.... thus making it easier than just recklessly throwing out magic."

Rinoa looked over at the other girl, who was smirking a bit and crossing her arms over her chest. Obviously she was trying to show her up... which was actually making Rinoa like her a bit more. "Thanks," she then replied, slightly nodding.

"Very good, girls," the instructor then intterupted, clapping her hands and walking over to her desk and opening the textbook, "...now, for the rest of the class... I want you both to read the three chapters dealing on why combining fire and white magi is so useful and how even though both are different are the same in a certian way."

Rinoa groaned, lightly slapping her right hand on her forehead and tilting her head forward so that her long blue hair covered her face. She didn't exactly like studying time... how much longer was this class going to be until it was lesiure time?

[-Alex-]

The paper was forcefully squished into Alex?s pocket as he walked through the grassy fields around the school. No matter what happens, Alex could assure himself when he was atop the green hills that made the island so beautiful, he could calm himself down with whatever crap was going on in his life.

He kept his head low as he used his two legs as uneven support to ascend the green hill. When he was nearly there, he looked up to see his favorite resting spot?a tree staring upwards into the sky from the hill rolling across the plain. Smiling faintly, sat beneath the shade of the tree, unhooking his cumbersome black shirt, allowing to it to fall to his feet. When he felt the wind across his face, he felt good.

A boy, now a man?
A woman staring affectionately at her child?
A baby suckling on his mother?s breast?
A tree overlooking them, protecting them.
God is in his heaven, and all is right with the World.

Alex was half asleep for over a half hour before he heard the familiar hum of a certain Rinoa Ryuzaki. The blue haired girl bent over to look at him. Alex just rolled over.

?Hey Alex.?

?Hey.?

?Nice day, huh??

?Sure.?

Rinoa sat down on the opposite end of the tree. ?Nice day, huh??

?Its allright, I guess.?

?Oh come on, Instructor Aki?s test wasn?t that hard.?

?I got an F?again??

?Oh!? Rinoa gasped. She didn?t socialize much with Alex, if only because he always separated himself from pretty much everyone, but she knew that he was very self conscious of his achievements. ?Sorry about that. Well, you tried hard at least. Maybe you should get some tutoring??

?I got twice a week?? he groaned.

?Well, uh, maybe you should get one of the students help you out? Aki is always boring half the class goes to sleep on him!?

?It wouldn?t matter. I?d bomb the tests anyways.?

Rinoa sighed depressingly. ?Alex, you have to be more optimistic that that. If you look at life so gloomy like, how can you expect to have any fun??

?We?re teenage mercenaries. What do you expect? One mission you?ll kill people for no reason, and then sure enough, further down the road, you?ll kill those same exact people you started to care for. It?s hopeless.?

?Alex ??

?Just go away??

Rinoa frowned. ?Fine! Be that way, jackass.? She collected her things, and left Alex to his thoughts.

?No one cares for me, so why bother living? Just fight - its all they want us to do anyways...?

?That?s a morbid philosophy.?

?Huh?? Alex looked up, slightly startled. ?Oh. It?s you,? he grimaced, tucking his chin back into his chest. If there was anyone he hated dealing with, it was Ms. Perky herself. Ayame put on a pouty face when he said ?you? with such disdain, but she sat down beside him anyway.

?Why are you out here, anyway? I thought you spent the last half of the year in the library studying,? Alex asked casually. Ayame often sat with him and talked about what she had been doing. She would routinely ask for him to contribute, but he would always clamp his mouth shut. Despite all his rude remarks and jokes about her while she told him about her day, she was used to it by now, and paid it little mind.

?I had to get out of there. I fell asleep and lost three hours of study time, not to mention I made an idiot out of myself-?

?That?s not hard to do,? he snickered. She stuck her tongue out at him as she pulled her bag off her shoulders. Daiya?s head popped out of the top as she laid it on the ground beside her, sniffing the fresh air.

?Yeah, but it was pretty bad today. Apparently, this guy has known who I am for a while, and I didn?t even notice him! I feel like a total jerk, not to mention an ignorant goofball,? she sighed. Alex only grunted in reply, but Ayame smiled. ?Despite your lack of charm, talking to you makes me feel better.?

?Why? Compared to my problems, yours are so much easier? Does talking to me let you see how much better your life is than mine?? he asked in an accusing tone, glaring at her. She shook her head no, opening her mouth to explain, but he didn?t seem to notice. ?I don?t need your pity, and I?m sick and tired of hearing your stupid social problems! They don?t matter, okay? Get over it!? he yelled.

By now, he was on his feet and staring intensely down at her, his fists balled tightly and practically shaking. Had there been more people around, he might have created a scene. Ayame looked helplessly up at him, wondering if he actually meant this or if it was just another outburst. She had been the unfortunate target of his anger before, but she had known the cause of it. This time, she could only think of her conversation the thing that had bothered him.

?I-I didn?t mean??

?Just leave me alone!?

?? Alright.?

Ayame?s voice was barely audible as she grabbed her bag and stood up. Daiya mewed as he jumped back in, having left it to roll in the grass while the two were ?talking?. She looked him in the eyes briefly before gluing her eyes to her feet.

?I?m sorry if what I said offended you. I meant nothing by it,? she apologized, turning around and walking off. Knowing class was bound to start soon, she headed towards the classrooms. She sniffled a little bit and wiped her nose before chuckling.

?Based on this morning, today isn?t looking like it?s going to be one of my good days, huh Daiya?? Ayame mumbled. Her friend once again popped his head out of her bag, a look of exasperation on his small, furry face. He was often the one to console her when she felt bad like this.

?What are you talking about? That boy in the library was merely caught off guard, and Mr. Explode-At-The-Only-Person-That-Actually-Talks-To-Me-For-No-Reason back there was probably having an off-day, too. Don?t mope around during class, or else everyone will wonder if something?s wrong and you?ll have to explain, and then they?ll think you?re a baby for being so worked up about something so simple.?

?Thank you, Daiya. I feel loads better,? she laughed sarcastically.

Sakura returned to her dormitory, setting her new novel on her bedside table with a smile; Kyosuke was thoughtful like that, too bad everyone else didn't see him as she did. She picked up her bag that she had prepared earlier, slipping the folder holding her assignment into it too. With a glance at her watch, she left the dorms and returned to the courtyard where her Weapons lesson would be.

She arrived there with 5 minutes to spare before the lesson begun and set her things down, just holding onto her gunblade. All the students that were there had already started stretching, since their teacher never allowed them stretching time after class began. Sakura pulled her long hair into a simple ponytail and started limbering her arms and legs for a workout. She placed her right arm across her body, pulling it against herself with her left arm as she stretched her hamstring, holding it before swapping over.

She watched as Kyosuke arrived, putting his things beside hers and starting his stretching regime. Sakura finished after pulling a couple of really flexible moves, since she was naturally flexible. Kyosuke was still working on it as the teacher entered.

"Good morning, Class!" he boomed.

"Good morning, Instructor Cavalier." they responded.

"Today will be an informal session. It will just be sparring in pairs. Pair up! I want pairs of close range against distance. Go!"

The students rushed around, trying to find a good partner. Kyosuke just continued stretching with Sakura beside him. They knew they'd be partnering up, as they usually did besides when Instructor Cavalier called for same range pairs.

The instructor blew his whistle once, which was the signal to spread out around the courtyard and to make sure they had enough room to spar. He reminded them to keep an eye out because of projectiles that would be flying around the field, before blowing his whistle again, which signalled the commencement of the sparring.

Sakura lifted her gunblade and rushed forward toward Kyosuke who was ready, throwing one chakram with a simple flick of his wrist, it zipped through the air with a quiet whistle, slicing at Sakura who swivelled, pointing her gunblade tip at it and squeezing the trigger. The bullet hit its target and the chakram swerved off course, missing her as she continued forward, getting closer. Kyosuke ran to the side, jumping to catch the ring, throwing his other quickly as Sakura approached. The two smiled, they enjoyed sparring with each other, it was always quite invigorating.

"Today will be an informal session. It will just be sparring in pairs. Pair up! I want pairs of close range against distance. Go!" And with that, the class scrambled as they attempted to find sparring partners. In a matter of moments, nearly every one found a partner and the sounds of scrapping metal and gunshots could be heard across the sparring field.

Two people were left alone; Alex and Ayame. Alex was sitting down in a depressing manner, with his legs brought up to his face with him holding his longsword between them, while Ayame was just rocking her body back and forth in a hyperactive manner, humming some tune. She faced Alex, and with a sigh, approached him and kicked him lightly.

?All right, up with you lazy bum.?

?W-what??

?Goof, we are the only ones left.?

?Oh?yeah, I guess??

Ayame put on a big grin. ?Hey, cheer up from this morning okay? You were probably just having a bad day, right??

?Y-yeah, I failed another of Instructor Aki?s tests.?

?Aww, that sucks. Well, put the past behind you, and lets get to it before Instructor Cavalier yells at us.?

?Mister Glesen! Miss Ayame! Will you please join the class in the spar??

?Too late,? the cheerful girl giggled. ?Well, come one!?

?All right,? he said quietly.

*

Sparks flew as hammer and blade connected with each other in a consecutive manner. Alex glared down at Ayame as the two sparred.

?Come on Alex! I know you can do better than this.?

?At least you didn?t knock me out this time??

?So you do remember! I was afraid you forgot about that day after I hit you on the head.?

?Sure, I have to remember. I need to pay you back?right??

?Was that sarcasm, Alex??

??Maybe?, the boy grinned. Chuckling, girl swung her hammer, and Alex rolled out of the way, preparing to have his blade touch her neck in an overwhelming victor. Ayame?s attempt to smash the warhammer into his ribs, however forced Alex to leap and land in a defensive position. The position of the battle had changed, in Ayame?s favor.

Ayame slammed the warhammer into the ground, sending out a wave of dirt and mud towards Alex, preparing to send him flying towards the wall. Alex?s longsword extended its reach, signaling it was about to use some of its magi?s charge in an attack. He slipped the weapon the ground, and another wave of earth, fueled by an electric charge, charged. The two waves exploded into a shower of flying grass and soil. The enchanted field repaired itself almost instantly, but the two didn?t notice. They were already charging towards each other.

Alex attempted to cut Ayame down, but she sidestepped and smashed the warhammer into his gut. The enchantment of the fields reduced all damage by any weapon or spell so that nothing but a few bruises and broken bones would result. Shocked by the turn of events, and by the pain in his gut, Alex didn?t have enough time to react as the butt end of the warhammer spun into his groin. A twirling finishing move sent Alex flying backwards.

Ayame didn?t notice she overdid it until she noticed that Alex couldn?t even get up. Concerned, she rushed over to see him. ?Hey, Alex! You okay??

?Gah?I had better?? He spat some blood.

?Can you get up?? Alex attempted to, but just fell face first into the grass.

?Here, let me help you out. You need to go to the infirmary.? She gave him some support as they rose, and she turned to face Instructor Cavalier. He was already walking towards them, to inspect Alex?s wounds. ?Instructor, Alex needs to go to the infirmary. I think I overdid it a bit??

?Agreed. Go now, Miss Ayame. Oh, and Alex??

?S-Sir?? he nervously gasped for air.

?Excellent idea countering that shock wave. A bit draining on your magi, but it would have no doubt saved your life were you in any real danger. Dismissed for the day.? The two students nodded, and they walked off, slowly but surely, towards the infirmary.

Carrot had gone to the library to read the chapters Instructor Shandala gave her while most of the others in her age-group had gone to train with their weapons.

Since Carrot was studying to become a supporting healer, she didn't need to learn the art of combat any more than she already had. She had her mace, she knew how to smack heads with it, no fineries needed.

After reading on for a half an hour, she got stuck with a term she didn't quite understand.

"Panacean... Huh?" she wondered, biting the end of her pencil that she used to underline important things from the book. "I better go ask Nurse Mallon."

It was a studying principle of hers to go ask directly from somebody who knew instead of wasting hours of valuable time to search the answer from the school library's countless books.

She packed her belongings to her bright red bag, and walked towards the infirmary. When she got there, she noticed that Nurse Mallon was busy with a patient.

The nurse was a cheery woman that was nearing her fourties but was still in very good shape. Good enough to make most of the boys dream about being treated by "Nurse Melon". She greeted Carrot with a big smile as she stepped through the door.

"Oh, it's you, Miss Burnheart. Seeking another answer, are you? Just hold on a minute while I get this young man fixed..."

Carrot turned to look at the bed and saw a familiar guy laying on it. Alex Glesen.

"Oh, it's alright, I can come back later..."

Alex smiled at her too. What was that, was she actually blushing?! Because of some guy?!

"No, you can stay", Alex hurried to say. "Err, if you want."

Carrot saw the guy blush a bit also. How sickeningly cute.

"I'm finished already", Nurse Mallon said suddenly, breaking the awkward silence. "You just rest there, Mr. Glesen."

Then she turned her attention to Carrot.

"I just wanted to ask about a term, "pana-"..."

Carrot was interrupted by the opening door. A perky, brown-haired girl entered and dashed to Alex's bedside. Ayame, that lunatic.

"Oh, Alex! Are you alright? Honestly, I didn't mean to hurt you!"

"It's okay, Ayame, Nurse Mel... Mallon has treated me with her best abilities."

All the while Alex was speaking to Ayame, he gave glances at Carrot who couldn't help but to stare at them.

Then Nurse Mallon coughed politely, drawing Carrot's focus back to her.

"Pana-what, dear?"

"Uh, panacean... Oh, forget it, I'll come back another time when it's less dense in here", she said loudly to make sure Ayame heard, and marched out of the infirmary.

Kyosuke and Sakura stood across from each other, both knowing that the gears were constantly turning in the other's heads. Kyosuke was known throughout the academy for being a strong tactician on the field, it was the ability that overshadowed any of his others despite how focused his magic would be, or how accurate his strikes would be. Sakura on the other hand wasn't so much a planner as she was quick to adapt. She always paced herself and had time to think and usually came up with ways to get around in almost any situation. Her quickness on the battlefield was also a great advantage for her in any case.

Kyo broke out of his train of thought with a quick dash to the left side, Sakura reacted by circling herself around toward her left. Kyo snapped one half of his chakram toward Sakura's legs, Sakura was able to stop in her tracks with enough time to leap up above it. Sakura turned to see it fly away from her, she put a smile on and turned to taunt Kyosuke. But before she could say anything she saw the other chakram speeding down toward her from above. Sakura got wide eyed and barely deflected it with her gunblade, but the impact knocked her back a little.

She looked across at Kyo who had a grin on his face. He raised his hand and swung it back, as both chakrams followed the motion of his hand back to him. Confused, Sakura looked around, and finally noticed what it was that happened.

"Ah ha, so when did you get the chance to tie those chakrams together with that steel wire?" she asked noticing the gleam off the wire coming from his hand. Kyo combined the two chakrams back into one.

"When we began, remember i chased after my first chakram. When i spun around to throw the other i wrapped it around the center while my back was turned." Kyo answered. Sakura put a grin on her face too now.

"Well, that's a nice little trick. Now lets see what you think about this!" Sakura said, as the pulled back on her gunblade and Kyo's chakram flew out of his hands over to her. Kyo looked toward her with a suprised look on his face, and looked down at his empty hands.

"How the...you wrapped my chakram with a second wire?" Kyo asked. Sakura giggled.

"When i deflected your second throw, i threaded it into the chakram with the tip of the gunblade before i sliced it away." she answered back. Kyo pushed his glasses up with his middle and ring finger, and started to think of what to do next.

"Hehe, don't look so serious. I have a confession! I saw you practicing the other day, tying the chakrams together with the wire. I had it ready for the next time we were gonna spar." Sakura told him, as she flung the chakram back at him. Kyo caught it with his pointer finger, spun it around and placed it on his back.

"Hm, little cheater," Kyo said in a low tone of voice.

Kyo turned to his right but was bumped into by another student who was taking part in the sparring exercise. Kyo caught his balance, as did the other student. They turned to each other, Kyo with a narrow look in his eyes and the other student sneered at him.

"Watch yourself, injuries occur on the battlefield because of carelessness," Kyo said, brushing himself off. The other student turned fully around to him now and addressed him.

"Maybe it's you who should watch it, pretty boy," the student said. Kyo recognized him, it was Lazarus McCloud. Kyo had a few run ins with him in the past, the two never really got a long. Kyo considered Lazarus to always be undiciplined and careless with himself.

"Hmph, i suppose it's difficult for someone like you to understand..." Kyosuke answered back, as Sakura ran up to his side to see what was going on. Lazarus slipped his hand into his pocket subtly and whipped out one of his edged cards but was met swiftly by Kyosuke's chakram. The two stood at a stalemate, staring each other down eye to eye. Sakura shook her head and grabbed both of their arms, pulling them down.

"Would you two stop it. Lazarus, you should get back to your spar or else Instructor Cavalier will get upset," she said, playing the peacemaker. Lazarus turned his head without a word and just walked back. Kyo sighed and lowered his chakram.

"What is it about him that always brings out the worst in you, Kyo? It's always awkward between you two," Sakura added. Kyo sighed and shook his head.

"It's just the way he is...his attitude...he dosen't exactly seem like the trustworthy type either," Kyo explained.

"You two should at least try to avoid each other...we don't need any inner hostilities between any of us. We're in the same class so let's just try and get through the final exam. Neither one of you are exactly the most popular people in the academy you know. Besides, even if your grades are the tops of the class you need to be able to work with anybody when it comes to mission time," Sakura explained, once again being the voice of reason.

Kyo could always rely on her to try and set him straight when he got out of line. She has seen what it was like when Kyo went into one of his episodes. As smart and laid back as he usually was, he had very little tolerance for people who rubbed him the wrong way. When it came to the contrast in talent and intellegence between him and other students, he became quite outspoken whenever he felt they weren't conducting themselves properly in his eyes.

Kyo and Sakura walked over to the warm up section where they had done their stretched and took a few sips of water. Kyo looked down and saw something laying next to his bag. It looked like one of the academy's tutorial texts on summoning. Kyo knew it wasn't his since he had finished reading every summoning text a few years ago. He picked it up and flipped through it until he saw a name on the back cover, it read "Ayame" with a little smiley face above it.

"Oh, this is that girl Ayame's book," he said as he started to look around for her. Sakura looked up at him while she was taking a few things out of her bag. "Ayame? I think she took Alex to the infirmary. I think they had another accident while they were sparring," she said, putting an emphasis on the word another.

Kyo hadn't even noticed since he was focused on his match with Sakura. He went to place the book down on one of the benches but Sakura stopped him.

"Hey, you should go bring that to her! You know how strict the academy instructors are about not losing text books and taking care of them. Besides, she's also in our Summoning Magic class, you know how Instructor Uzume gets," Sakura said, with a certain moment in mind from when Ayame forgot to bring her text to class once. Instructor Uzume yelled at her and told her to be more responsible.

"Um, well...you can bring it righ..."

"Well! I gotta go talk with Instructor Cavalier about something! Hurry and go bring it to her!" Sakura said, interuppting Kyosuke's sentence. Sakura ran off leaving Kyo with a defeated look, as he pushed his glasses up again.

"I didn't mean to do it, honest," Ayame insisted again as she helped Alex up the stairs.

"Really, really, it's okay. I'm glad you went all-out. It lets me know you don't think I'm a wimp," he laughed nervously. He winced when they shifted from walking up stairs to a flat walkway, but was otherwise fine. Or as fine as you can be after getting bludgeoned with a warhammer.

Ayame, deciding that getting Alex?s mind off of the pain was the best thing to do for now, began asking him about his experience with sparring. Most of his answers were vague or flat-out 'I don?t know''s or 'I guess''s. But when he did talk about practices, he would sometimes smile. Ayame made a mental note to try and get Alex to smile more; he was much cuter when he was happy.

"Oh, what happened to you?" Nurse Mallon gasped, having opened the door just to see Alex spit up some blood as he had his arms wrapped around his stomach.

"Um? It's kind of my fault? Well, no, it is my fault. We were sparring and-" Ayame began, but was cut off when the nurse held up a hand with an understanding look on her face.

"Say no more, Miss Ayame. Sparring usually sends me more than this by now," she chuckled. She ushered the two in and helped Ayame sit Alex down. As the nurse examined him, Ayame sat quietly and waited, hoping he wouldn?t be too hurt. After a moment or two, she sneezed, startling the other two. Nurse Mallon noted that the tissues were in the supply room out the door and down the hall on the right. She politely bowed and rushed out, not wanting to be seen with snot dripping down her face (though really, she had just made a noise, but she had wanted to do something rather than let the guilt build up on her in there).

Once she opened the door to the room she noticed it was quite large? and dark. She was not good at casting fire spells, even minor ones, and decided to stumble her way to the tissues rather than risk setting the place on fire.

"Lessee, tissues? tissues?" she mumbled absent-mindedly, as was her habit, not letting the room intimidate her. During her search, the thought of doing irreversible damage to Alex attacked her imagination, giving her images of being hated by Alex, feared by everyone else, and expelled for attacking a fellow student while being unprovoked. Though none of those were possible, anything happened in Ayame?s imagination. When she found the tissues she grabbed a box and rushed back to the room to start apologizing again.

"Oh, Alex! Are you alright? Honestly, I didn't mean to hurt you!" she cried, slamming the door open. She rushed to his side, almost on the verge of tears.

"It's okay, Ayame, Nurse Mel... Mallon has treated me with her best abilities," he insisted. As he continued to try and calm her down, she noticed his eyes wandering quite a bit. She glanced around and noticed a familiar face. It was Carrot Burnheart, a fellow senior, though that was about all the two had in common. She never did understand why Carrot disliked her so, but she got the message every time their eyes met, whether it was during lunch or walking by her in a corridor. Before she could say anything, Nurse Mallon spoke up.

"Pana-what, dear?"

"Uh, panacean... Oh, forget it, I'll come back another time when it's less dense in here," Carrot spat, saying the last few words rather loudly. With that, she stormed out, leaving a helpless Ayame to stare at the door.

"I interrupted something, didn't I?" Ayame thought aloud.

"Well, you stopped her from asking me a question, but other than that, all you interrupted was some awkward silence and tension," Nurse Mallon chuckled, putting away some instruments. "You can go back to class whenever you feel like, Mr. Glesen. Have a nice day, you two." With that, she pushed a large box of supplies into another room of the infirmary, leaving the two alone again.

Ayame paused for a moment to think about the whole incident, and almost immediately, a devious grin spread across her face. Alex blinked a few times before catching on, his cheeks starting to turn rather pink.

"You like Carrot, don't you!" Ayame whispered. She would?ve normally shouted, as is her way, but she knew that even the walls had ears here at the Academy, and she wasn?t one that favored gossip, which would surprise quite a few people. "Since when? Did you just notice how cute she was in here, like I noticed how sweet your smile is on the way here, or has this been going on for a while? Oh! I wonder if she thinks you're cute, too!" Ayame rambled happily, giggling in between each embarrassing possibility.

Alex, rather than even try to protest against the flood of ideas coming from the air-head of a girl, stood up and walked towards the door. Placing his hand on the knob, he held up a hand to silence her. The color in his cheeks had returned to normal, and his regular intense grimace was back on his face.

"Not a word leaves this room. If it does, you?ll get payback for today?s hits during sparring," he said sternly. Ayame was silent before standing up, dusting her skirt off.

"Well, of course. Not a word to anyone other than who was in this room. So if you don't want me to tell Carrot?" She paused to gauge his reaction to the possibility, which was, as she had hoped, a rush of blood to his cheeks again, "? you have to smile for me. And mean it!" Alex blinked, startled by such a simple request, but obliged. As he smiled, he spoke in a kind voice.

"If you keep your mouth shut, I'll look like this a lot more often."

"? You?re so cute when you smile!" Ayame cheered, jumping on his back.

"Ack! Get off!" he cried, stumbling out the door with her arms still around his neck asking for a ride.

"But I had to haul you all the way up the stairs," she mumbled, a small pout decorating her face, "Shouldn?t you carry me back down?"

"We came up here because you smashed me in the stomach with a hammer!" he protested, exasperated already. As Ayame chased the bruised Alex down the corridors, she giggled at how fast he had cheered up from the morning. As ditzy as she was, and as 'unconventional' as her displays of friendship were, she at least tried her hardest.

"I want a ride!" she insisted again, grabbing a hold of his arm.

"We're almost there already! Do I have to?" he panted, having just ran almost all the way back to the courtyard. Ayame giggled, but said nothing more. She climbed up onto the ledge and leaned against a column.

"What's your next class?" she asked him.

"Um... I have a free, but I'm going to the library. Why?"

"Aw. We can't have class together again!" she moaned. Alex was staring at her in confusion and even slight awe before his thoughts enveloped him. She waved a hand in front of his face, but he did nothing. "Hey! I'm gonna go grab my bag and head off to my class on Water Magic with Instructor Iraki, 'kay? Don't get into too much trouble without me!" she giggled before hopping down and leaving him to his thoughts.

When she returned to the courtyard, it was empty aside from her and Alex's things. She picked up her bag and shuffled through it to make sure everything was there and started pulling it over her shoulder before ripping it back and flipping through it again.

"Oh no... Where's Daiya? Where's my book?!" she cried, panic quickly setting in. "I am soooo screwed. So much for this day getting better," she grumbled. She headed off towards the library, hoping that Daiya might have left it there by accident this morning.
OOC: To anyone who has a friend like Ayame, I sympathize. One of my friends is my inspiration for her. xD Constantly hyper, amazingly annoying, prone to overreact/worry, and very giggly? Gah, she?s insane, lol. Hope this was alright Doublehex and Sandy. ^_^ And I'm leaving the rest up to you BKStyles. My post is too long already. >_>;;

It was mid-afternoon in the day... everyone settling down from their classes. Rinoa sighed a small sigh while she was in the Library, having a free class after her previous one... flipping through the pages in her text book while leaning her head on her right hand.

She started reading through the pages quickly, becoming bored with every sentence that she read. Rinoa then noticed some noise coming from outside; looking out the window she saw a group of guys and girls talking and having fun. "Damn this sucks," she muttered to herself, returning back to her seat and slumping down on the desk, "...I may have been here for awhile, but I still don't know very many people." ...Okay.. maybe she knew some people... like that jerk Alex whom she was trying to help out but totally dissed her. Just thinking about it made her want to punch him in the face... well, maybe not that bad.

Rinoa sighed yet again and closed her textbook, grabbing it with the rest of the things and walking out of the library, heading to her dorm room to get angry by herself. As she opened the exit door, a young girl bumped right into her, causing all her books and pieces of paper to go flying all over the room. She sat up from falling down and rubbed her head a little, looking at the girl who had bumped into her picking up all her books and apologizing. "Aaah! I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to run into you like that! My fault my fault!!"

She nodded and reassured her that it was okay, helping with picking up her stuff and standing up, dusting herself off from her fall. "Uhm.. thanks for helping me pick up my crap and sorry for running into you," Rinoa bowed and tried to continue on her way until the girl lightly grabbed her left arm, causing her to turn around in confusion.

"Say.... you don't look like you really have any place to go," the girl pryed, her words aiming right into Rinoa's mind, ".. you new here?"

Rinoa stuttered, amazed that this girl knew all this. "Uh.. w.. well... yes I am. My name's Rinoa Ryuzaki," she bowed low.

The cheerful girl laughed and patted Rinoa's shoulders. "Don't worry, it's not like I'm going to hurt you or anything. My name's Ayame, by the way... nice to meet'cha!" She kindly took Rinoa's hand and shook it lightly, smiling at her.

"Uhm... uh... nice to meet you too," she answered surprisingly, amazed that someone would be so.... nice and friendly. Maybe this was her chance to get to know more people around here... after all, what did she have to lose?

"Ayame! You left your book at class!"

Both girls turned around to see a boy with short black hair but had long bangs that covered his eyes and was wearing glasses running over towards them carrying a book. Ayame clapped and ran over to him, thanking him and talking to him for awhile until he looked up at Rinoa. "And who is she?"

Ayame turned around and dragged Rinoa over to him, who had bright red coloured all over her white face. "This is Rinoa- chan! I just meet her as I bumped into her in the Library."

Rinoa smiled a little but blushed an even brighter shade of red, obviously a little attracted to the handsome teen. "H.. hi..," she finally replied, trying to speak, "..my.. my na.. name's Rinoa."

The black haired teen chuckled a little and smiled handsomely yet kindly at her, raising his right hand. "Heh.. hi Rinoa, I'm Kyosuke from one of Ayame's classes."

Rinoa slowly placed her hand into his and gently shook it, obviously shy by this gesture.

"P... please to m..m.. meet you."

OOC: Yeah, it's a little off, but it's no big deal. We can work with it. Lazarus would be more the type to see the situation as something not worth his time. He's not prone to picking fights, but won't back down from one that's brought to him. His standoffish attitude might wind him up in more encounters than he'd otherwise like, but he accepts that as part of who he is. He's also not the type to hold back in an altercation. If it comes down to a fight, he'll do his damndest to make sure he's the only one who'll walk away.

---

Really, it shouldn't be surprising that no one knew he'd been up all night. The professors who tutored the black magic students always kept strange hours. Just another eccentricity he'd had to deal with.

"Why does it seem like all my studies are designed to keep me segregated and seperate from the other students?"

Thankfully, Lazarus was the only one in his year who studied the Dark arts, so he was taught on a one-on-one scale. This meant a greatly accelerated pace of learning, but a zero-tolerance policy for mistakes. That stumble could have possibly fragged a mission. Lazarus squared off against his opponent again, all these thoughts and more racing through his head. Although his professors insisted on mental clarity, Lazarus found he fought better when he trusted his instincts.

A flick of the wrist, and Lazarus had palmed a dozen cards. His gloves kept the edges from biting down into his flesh. These cards were dulled regardless, enough to bruse, but never to break the skin. To cover the palm, Lazarus burned his curse, causing the cross around his neck to gleam with dark energy. His opponent, a boy who's name he'd forgotten hefted his weapon: a wicked looking spear.

Lazarus recalled his curse quickly, then passed it into his cards. His gloves never impeded charging something with his curse. Three cards whistled through the air with a snap of the wirst. All three missed, but served a seconary purpose, as they bit into the masonry behind the other student.

Nine other cards followed, all of them whistling within a hair of the student, who stood his ground.

"Heh. Is that the best you can do, McCloud?" The other taunted. "You'd best go home!" He readied to rush at the dark mage, and Lazarus raised a hand, a cold look in his eyes.

The student's eyes went wide. Lazarus snapped his fingers, and the student was immobilized, his arms and legs jerked into strange positions, his head yanked back.

Lazarus walked over to the frozen student. "I could have killed you, but I think it would be better served to make a point." Lazarus spun the student around.

The student's shadow was pinned against the wall, limbs locked in strange poses as each echanted card held it pinned to the wall at one joint or another. One bit into the shadow's neck, keeping the student from speaking.

"Your shadow is just as much a part of you as anything else." Lazarus said. "You'd do well to protect it." He removed his cards, and allowed the student to slump to the floor. The twelve cards rejoined the pack they'd come from, one of many secreted about Lazarus, and he shuffled it out of habit as he walked the perimiter of the room outside the dueling area, heading for the teacher.

"I'm reporting a victory, professor." The black mage said, stowing his cards. He really needed some sleep. Professor Mox had kept him up all through the night working with those corpses down in the basement. It wasn't as if it was particularly revolting, but the smell was difficult to remove. He'd ended up scouring the smell from his person with magic, then collapsing for sleep on a vacant stone slab. Lazarus imagined he looked much like the corpses he'd spent all night dismembering and putting back together.

The professor nodded silently, watching the other students. "Good. You may go."

Lazarus nodded, then swept his cloak up off the ground, tucking the book he'd had last night under it again. He needed to return it before much longer to the library. Such tomes were kept under strict watch, and returning one late would mean facing harsh punishment.

Lazarus worked his way around to the door and vanished into the hallway, making his way to the library. The large room was one of his favorite places to spend time. The restricted section was open to him, thanks to his major. Not many mages visited the section on Dark Arts, a place where only professors could grant access. Many of the books in that section held power. Powers that would seduce, control, dominate, and destroy. As such, the mental discipline to resist such things was the first thing taught to the Black Mages. This allowed them to peruse the tomes and grimoires at their leisure, expanding their repertoire of spells, or learning about forbidden magic in ages long past.

Lazarus reached the library, and nodded to the Librarian. She nodded back, noting that he would be studying in the restricted section.

Lazarus moved down the long rows of books, their soft whispers, muffled cries and screams going ignored. He returned the book under his cloak to it's position on the shelf, then began browsing for another suitable tome.

A shrill beeping noise echoed throughout the room, stirring its inhabitant in a most unpleasant way. This beeping had actually been going on for ages, but only had Havok's consciousness come to. He rolled over and slammed hard on the alarm clock, nye breaking it. He frowned and held his face, looking around and wondering why it was so bright outside. He stared down at his alarm clock and gasped.

"Oh no! I'm late! Class already started!" Havok sprung out of bed and flew over to the bathroom, showering as quickly as possible. He jumped out, barely drying off, and threw on his school uniform, grabbed his bag, and flew down to the courtyard. Now of all times he didn't want, no, couldn't afford to be late to class. His exams, the ones that really counted, weren't very far off, and he had to pass. His whole life had been leading up to this, and now he would finally be able to ascend to his true power... If he passed, of course.

Any last minute studying he could get in would definitely improve his well being, but he knew most things backwards and forwards. He was actually quite intelligent, which some found was hard to believe, as most who took up elemental fire magic were thought to be hot heads. Some were, such as, but for the most part, fire elementalists were strong people. Where they were strong varied, but head strong was the usual classification. Havok was heart strong, at least visually. And that was the real reason he was blasting to his classroom… She would be there, and his heart very much approved of the idea.

Havok’s thoughts kept him busy until he almost ran into three other students. Bumping into he male of the group, he quickly went to apologize when he realized who it was. Kyosuke. Havok grinned and smiled at his friend.

“Hey Kyosuke! Sorry about that man, I was in a hurry---“ Havok’s voice trailed off as he noticed who the two girls were. The cute, yet overly active Ayame, and…her. Rinoa. Havok’s face instantly blushed when he saw her, but the blush quickly went away when he noticed she was blushing as well. Obviously from Kyosuke, he thought as his stomach tightened. He grinned as couteously as he could and bowed to the two ladies.

“Hello Ayame and Rinoa. Almost didn’t notice you guys there. So what’re we all up to?”

Stephen finished showering and stepped out of the closed in glass box. He picked up a towel and dried himself off. He popped his head out from the bathroom, his hair a wet mess.

"Dude," he said with a comical tone. "There's really nothing to worry about."

His friend Aaron looked up at him, smiling. Stephen could always see right through his fibs, which is what made them such good friends. They knew everything about eachother.

"Thanks." said Aaron. Stephen disappeared back into the bathroom, the aroma of strong deoderant wafting between the cracks of the door and into his dorm room. Alex plugged his nose.

"Jeez, how much of that stuff do you need to put on?"

There was silence for about 10 seconds until suddenly the door opened slightly and a bottle of Axe Deoderant Spray flew out from the bathroom, whizzing past Aaron's head.

"You should wear some! Maybe it'll do you some good with the girls, haha." Stephen said. He walked out of the bathroom all dressed up and looking spiffy. Aaron pointed to his own neck, showing that Stephen's collar wasn't up.

"Oh." he smirked, popping the collar. Aaron chuckled and laid back on the bed. He looked at his friend.

"So, where you headed?" he asked. Stephen looked at his friend.

"Umm. Just walking around the halls. D'you wanna come?"

"Nah, I'm just gonna relax today." Aaron replied. Stephen shrugged.

"Your call," he said. He then noticed the way Aaron was feeling his bed, as if something was wrong with it. He sighed.

"Okay. Yes, I do take girls into my dorm room. But I don't... you know... do anything. I'm still... fresh." Stephen was kind of blushing. He shook his head after Aaron laughed at him and pressed down his hair with his hands.

"Well, I'm off." he waved. "See you. Don't take any of my stuff!" he said jokingly.

Today James decided would have been better spent in bed. Catching up on all of the sleep he had missed while studying some more, which was something uncommon for him because he rarely studied at all. As he looked at himself in the mirror of his dorm room he sighed.

?This is the problem with studying, it takes away from my natural beauty? he said with a small smirk, then rubbed his eyes again. Today was one of those days that were going to suck he suspected. He went to his first class in which he earlier prediction proved true, while trying to cast a low level fire spell, a girl sitting next to him setting his collar, and a second later his hair on fire.

He was just hoping that he would be able to get to his next class without any trouble. Climbing the stairs which led him to his Summoning studies class someone rushing down the stairs stumbled and knocked into James, of course knew he was going to fall down the stairs, such was the way his day was going. A few minuets later after climbing all the way back up the stairs he went to class.

After that class James ran as fast as he could into the bathroom. He waited a few minuets until he was due to his next class. Pressing his body against the corridor wall James looked both ways, as if searching for some form of life. Noticing none, he began to feel a bit more comfortable. Coming upon he reached out his had for the doorknob when the door cam flying out toward him knocking him on his underside. Rubbing his head James sighed. He should have known, reaching for the door that something would happen, it had been entirely too easy to get form the bathroom to this class. He wasn?t even sure what class it was, his sleep-deprived brain telling him it didn?t matter so long as he could take a nap during it.

?Damn, since that door to my class hit me I?ve had a really bad headache.? Sighing he waited until all the other students left before heading down to the nurse?s office. This was his one free period, right before lunch. ?Lunch?, the thought, drool beginning to pool in his mouth. Picking up all his stuff he headed down to the nursing station.

Just as he was about to open the door, it slammed himself in the face knocking him down. This was all too much for the seventeen year old as he begin bawling his eyes out. Moaning about things such as ?crazy girls with fire, too many stairs, and lunch?.

?No fair! All I wanted was to get some asprin or something then maybe go eat. But what do I get another door to the face!? By now he was having a tantrum pounding his fist on the floor while kicking his feet into the air. Today really sucked.

OoC: *Sigh* I didn?t even know this was up. I?m really sorry. Sandy if you want, just ignore James, I just wanted him to get hit in the face with a door again.

[-Alex-]

Alex rubbed his eyes as he trailed his fingers around the series of books. He had been studying for an hour and a half, on the history of the Academy?s choices for the Trial. Before one was to take the exam, which was essentially every Risk Breaker?s first mission if they made it out of their alive and with a satisfactory score, they were put through what was called a Trial. Over the Academy?s three hundred year history, it ranged from navigating one of the many small elemental-based caverns, defeat a elemental lord at the end, and return, to solving a puzzle under a period of time.

The Academy?s choice for the Trial was often random and unpredictable, in an attempt to put students with Alex?s mindset off guard. As of late, less of the weaker elemental caverns have been eliminated from the list, thanks to their being no elemental lords to fight at the end. Alex was certain that they were getting desperate for what the next Trial would be. He just needed to find whatever poorly placed clues were there.

Suddenly, he found what he was looking for ? ?History on the Beast Spirits?. ?Bingo?, he grinned. Book in hand, he returned to his table where his other half dozen books laid scattered. Cracking his knuckles, Alex flipped through the semi-large book until he found what he was looking for.

The Lion spirits are a proud, ancestral race. Residing on the spectral plane they name the ProudLands, the Lion spirits will rarely head any summoner?s call, except ?

He was interrupted when he saw a flat hand slam onto the tome. He looked up to see Rinoa, glaring down on him. ?Oh, uh?hi?? he said nervously, remembering all too well what he said to her yesterday.

?What are you reading now? Ways to make a girl more pissed?? she said in a pitiful comeback.

?Uh...no?not really. It?s just a hunch I have on the Trials??

Rinoa?s eyebrow lit up, her face obviously full of interest. Deciding that her future as a Risk Breaker was more important than her history with the boy, she took a seat beside him.

?Uh?? he said nervously. He was not exactly used to a girl ? or anyone ? for that matter, with the exception of Ayame, moving this close to him.

?Well, what is it??

?Oh!? he gasped. ?Uh, I think they?re gonna make us fight Lion Spirits.?

?An interesting hypothesis,? came a calm and intelligent voice. Alex turned to see a raven haired boy with glasses approaching him. ?Alex Glesen, correct?? Alex nodded. The boy extended his hand. ?Kyosuke Orias.? Alex shook it, if not somewhat shakily.

?I might as well introduce myself while I?m here?? came a sigh from a black haired woman behind Kyosuke. ?Sakura Clyne,? she waved.

Kyosuke coughed. ?Now, back on the matter at hand ? why do you think we?re facing the Lion Spirits.?

?Well, y?know Headmaster Enteri has been talking a lot of honor in those boring speeches, right??

?I find them fascinating myself, but I see your point.? That brought a giggle from the girls.

?And the Lion Spirits are high on honor, and their ancestral moon, which is, I think, the, uh, only time they can be summoned, is the month of the Trials and the exam. And the elemental caves are not an option, with their Lords being pretty much exterminated.?

Kyosuke pushed his glasses back. ?I applaud on your research gathering skills, Alex. Makes me wonder how you fail so many tests.? The comment made Alex sigh depressingly. Sakura elbowed Kyosuke?s ribs in a somewhat aggressive manner. ?Ah, sorry. Anyways, the only things at fault on your theory is that even during the Ancestral Moon, they will answer the call only under the most, erm, important of circumstances, and two, I doubt any of the last years can easily take on one of them by themselves. Defeating a Lion Spirit should be an exam all on its own.?

?Yeah?but won?t they put them some runes around wherever we?ll fight it to weaken it.?

?Perhaps, but I still have my doubts.?

?Well,? Rinao began, ?do you have any better ideas??

?Afraid not.?

?Then this guy is the best source we?ve got!? she said supportingly ? obviously forgetting about their encounter yesterday ? as she patted him hard on the back. Alex moaned a little.

?I suppose,? Kyosuke agreed reluctantly. ?Well, I have to go. It was nice meeting you Alex, and Rinoa.? With that, he turned only to see a certain someone he would have preferred not to see.

Lazarus McCloud.

Lazarus smiled darkly. "Hello, Kyosuke."

Lazarus carried another book, this one bound in bone and marked with a pentagram. The Black Mage moved towards the table, watching everyone tense as he approached. He sighed and fingered the cross around his neck, negating the effects of his curse by charging the cross. It didn't seem to help the tension. Lazarus shrugged internally, and pulled out a chair with his foot before palming a card from a pocket and carving a pentagram into the wooden table before setting his book down on it.

"As much as some of you might dislike me, you want to pass as badly as I do. To that end, my access to the restricted section is available to all of you. Professor Mox has hinted that the trials will be customized to each of us to expose and attack our weaknesses."

"Wait. When did you have a class with Mox?" Alex asked, narrowing his eyes. Mox was the special professor kept on retainer. He normally didn't teach classes, but instead carried out demonstrations and conjurations as needed.

"I study with professor Mox nightly. It's part of my curriculum." Lazarus explained. "Perhaps that explains my bad attitude. While you all sleep, I'm awake, playing with bodies and shadows because Mox is a twisted bastard."

Lazarus paged his book open, and thumbed through to the center. The pages were made of pressed sheets of human skin, the ink an enchanted blood that retained it's crimson luster.

"Certain fel creatures can only be summoned during certain days and nights, certain lunar phases, et cetera. But those are usually minor things, imps and creatures of the void. The greater cratures require sacrifices. Mass ones. Mox has had me binding lost souls to corpses in the basement for the whole past month. I'm assuming he plans to summon Aggamemmnon." Lazarus explained, turning the page. "Aggamemmnon is a minor prince of the pit, but still, anything from the pits is never to be underestimated. The high ammount of bodies leads me to believe he's going to mitigate the personal cost of the summoning by sacrificing extra souls to him."

A drawing of Aggamemmnon dominated the right-hand page. "Like most creatures from the pit, Aggamemmnon has innate resistance to fire, magical and otherwise. Despite his evil nature, he isn't undead, so curative magic is of no use against him. His strength is formidable, but he will of course be bound and crippled to keep from killing whomever he may be pitted against. His weakness is his hunger. Cursed by Asmodeus, he constantly craves the sustenance of souls. If you can find a way to banish or otherwise break Mox's hold on the souls he's going to have captive, Aggamemmnon will be unable to sustain himself here, and will return to the pit." Lazarus finished explaining.

Kyosuke narrowed his eyes. "Why're you helping us?"

Lazarus thought for a moment. "It's up to you to decide. Do I want to be friends, or could it be that I simply hate Mox more than I hate all of you?" He said, turning his attention back to the book in front of him.

"Does anyone else have any further insights on what any of us may be facing?" Lazarus asked without looking up. He appeared to be searching for something in the tome in front of him.

Ayame threw a big smile on seeing Rinoa and Kyosuke shaking hands. Rinoa was clearly red in the face as Kyosuke just smiled. Ayame giggled a bit and then cut herself in to the mix.

"Glad you two got to meet! Wow, Rinoa...your face is awfully red...that dosen't mean your embarrrrrrrased does it?" Ayame said in a teasing tone, while pointing to her own cheeks. Rinoa withdrew her hand faster than the speed of light and placed them on her own cheeks, trying to cover them.

"Wha...what!? I don't know what your talking about!" Rinoa responded in a hurry. Kyosuke was a bit confused on what to say and just looked on as Ayame continued to tease Rinoa while Rinoa tried to deny it. Ayame then remembered the reason Kyosuke went to find her.

"Oh! Kyo! Didn't you bring me something?" Ayame asked, on her tippy toes trying to look Kyosuke in the eyes. Kyo pulled his head back but Ayame followed her with impressive balance. Kyo finally fell back, looked up and still saw Ayame bent over with her face half an inch from his. Ayame took the oppurtunity to push Kyo's glasses up for him again.

"Um, would you please stop that? and yes, i did bring you something...your text book...you left it in the courtyard," Kyo said while getting back to his feet. Ayame took her back back and gave a sigh of relief.

"Thanks so much Kyo! I would have been in big trouble if i walked into class today without it. Instructor Uzume woulda yelled at me again..." she said in a pouty voice.

"Yes...well, be more careful next time. You were lucky i saw it," Kyosuke said before being knocked into by another student. Kyo fell forward from the impact, taking Rinoa down with him accidently. Rinoa fell to her back with a thud and looked up at Kyosuke, who was on top of her with his face about an inch away from hers. Rinoa's face turned redder than before as she pracitically froze in place. Thoughts ran through her head some telling her to grab him and kiss him and treat herself, others telling her to ask him to move, and others telling her to slide out and run for the hills. Before she could do anything though Kyosuke picked himself back up, and extended his hand to help Rinoa up.

"Oh...I...w..w..why, t..thank...i mean..." Rinoa tripped over her words and just gave up and took Kyo's hand as he helped her up. "Sorry about that," Kyosuke said while taking his hand back from Rinoa's. He turned around and saw Havok.

?Hey Kyosuke! Sorry about that man, I was in a hurry---? Havok began to say before noticing Rinoa and Ayame. Havok found himself losing his words once setting his eyes on Rinoa, he had always admired her looks since they first met in the academy. Havok then noticed Rinoa's gaze was fixed on Kyosuke, red in the cheeks and a spaced out look on her face. Havok sighed inside and figured he should have expected it. He just put on a smile and tried to place his thoughts elsewhere.

?Hello Ayame and Rinoa. Almost didn?t notice you guys there. So what?re we all up to?? he managed to ask.

"I was returning Ayame's book and she introduced me to Rinoa" Kyosuke answered. Havok looked over at Ayame who had a big smile on her face, he knew she was only trying to be friendly but couldn't help feel but he would have preferred Kyosuke not to have met Rinoa.

"That's right! But now that Havok is here, we should really get started, right?" Ayame asked. The others turned to Ayame in confusement.

"What do you mean, Ayame?" Rinoa asked. Ayame turned to her and put her hands on her hips.

"Well we dont have our next classes until 4, so we might as well study while we're here!" Ayame said while pointing to the shelves. Kyosuke figured since he didn't really have anything else to do it was a good idea. Havok interjected however.

"Uh, you guys go ahead. I'm on my way somewhere now, which is why i accidently bumped into you back there Kyosuke. But if i have time before class i'll come meet you guys" Havok said.

"Oh...well ok, but make sure you come if you can," Ayame said while dragging Kyo and Rinoa by their arms toward the desks. Kyo thought while being pulled by her that this was the second time today Ayame had grabbed him to go with her somewhere.

Havok walked out of the library and continued to run down the right fork. Coming into the library as he was leaving however was Kyosuke's sparring partner, Sakura. She saw the three of them and ran up to them calling out Kyo's name loudly.

"Huh? Oh! Sakura...hey you should be more quiet this is a library you know," Kyosuke said trying to quiet her down.

"Well i tried calling you down the hallway before but you didn't hear me! But anyway, i finished speaking with Instructor Cavalier and he said that the teams for the final exam were going to be chosen in a few days. Man...i can't believe it's so close..." Sakura said, remembering how exams always made her feel as she clutched her stomach.

"I never understand why you always get like this before exams, you always get As just like me," Kyosuke said in a questionable tone.

Rinoa looked on and recognized Sakura from classes but never really talked with her. She was a bit intimidated by Sakura's popularity, but being with everyone there in the library made her feel a little more comfortable. Sakura looked over at her cutting her and Kyo's conversation short, and walked up to Rinoa.

"Hi, i'm Sakura. You must be Rinoa?" she asked while extending her hand. Rinoa with a suprised look on her face, reached out and shook it. Rinoa was suprised that Sakura, one of the most popular and beautiful girls in the academy, knew who she was.

"Y...yes. Pleased to meet you Ms. Clyne" she responded.

"Please, Sakura is fine" Sakura responded.

The four continued on before Rinoa saw a familiar face of someone she had met before the others in her company. It was Alex Glesen, already seated at a table looking through some books, speaking to himself.

"Does anyone else have any further insights on what any of us may be facing?" Lazarus asked without looking up. He appeared to be searching for something in the tome in front of him. Suddenly, everyone turned to face Alex, who suddenly became extremely nervous when four people started to stare at him as if he was a murderer.

?Well, uh, um, I ?? he stuttered.

?Get on with it!? Lazarus demanded.

?I think we?re facing the Lion Spirits because the headmaster has been talking a lot about honor lately, and the spirits value death before dishonor.?

The black mage raised his eyebrow. ?That is your only data??

?No, well, uh??

Rinoa, pissed of how Lazarus was treating the already nervous Alex, decided to butt in. ?McCloud, you?re not helping him!?

"Yeah!", Ayame agreed. "Be nice."

Lazarus just rolled his eyes. ?Whatever.?

?The lion spirit?s ancestral moon is three months from now, as well?so, put the pieces together, and I think its very obvious.?

Ayame, always supportive of Alex, nodded, but Lazarus wasn't so sure. ?Maybe for you,? Lazarus mused, ?but Mox still suggested an individual test for each person.?

?Well, I always admired the lions??

?What do you mean??, Kyosuke raised his eyebrows.

"They're the cutest thing!" Ayame declared. No one expected anyone to say something so foolish.

?Well, uh, what I meant was that the lions are king of the jungle, y?know. I guess, I kinda wanted that respect. To be noticed.?

?Maybe you shouldn?t be such a coward all the time,? Lazarus declared. Alex stared downwards, embarrassed. With the exception of Rinoa, who was staring at Alex with a worried look on her face, everyone else glared at Lazarus. ?Its true, you have to admit. He?s so reluctant to do anything that involves getting his hands dirty! Too much of a book worm I guess.?

?Maybe he wouldn?t be so shy,? Sakura suggested, ?if people like you weren?t such an ass towards him.?

"You guys don't even give him a chance," Ayame frowned.

Lazarus just chuckled. ?Whatever, I got to get going and do some more research on Mox. I?ll see you all later if I have anything.? With that, Lazarus left the library.

?He?s right?why even bother? I?ll probably fail the Trial anyways.?

Sakura shot him a shocked glance. ?Alex! Don?t let that jerk get to you. He?s just a bully with a good haircut ? he probably won?t get past the Trails with all that arrogance he has. You know what they say ? death awaits the overconfident.?

Alex just sighed. ?Whatever. I?m out of here ? I?ll see you guys later?maybe.? With that, he grabbed his bag and left.

Rinoa pouted, angry at herself for being at mad him earlier. ?Now I feel bad.?

"Its all Lazarus' fault..." Ayame decided. "He's always mean to Alex."

Sakura turned to Kyosuke. ?Now I know why you hate that guy, Kyosuke. He?s a real jerk!?

He nodded. ?It will be doomsday if those two are on the same team in the Exam?even more so if one of them are the leader.?

?What makes you think that Alex will even get to the Trial with that attitude?? Rinoa said concerned.

?He doesn?t show it, but I feel a real fire inside of him. He?s really determined to win. He never gives up, no matter how hopeless the situation. He?s a lion who just feel into a deep sleep. He just needs to wake up.?

?How do you propose to do that?? Sakura asked.

?I have a few ideas?? the intellectual grinned.

"Well, I am going to try to cheer Alex up! I'll catch you guys later!" She waved them goodbye and sprinted off in Alex's direction.

The sun shined brightly into the near empty room, and with no bodys to block out the light it beamed right on to Blaize's face. Causing him to twist and turn away from it, still curled up in his blankets. He rolled around a bit more before finally opening his eyes and then shading them form the suns harsh rays. He sat up and smacked his lips as he rubbed the sleep from his eyes. He shook his head and then started to comb down his hair. He sat up and walked gingerly over to the bathroom.

Stretching out as he made his way there, he cleaned him self off, brushed his teeth, cleaned his hair and then dressed himself in the school uniform. He looked at it rather distastfully, but continued on with what he was doing. Then left the room, walking down the hall without any rush at all. Even though he clearly knew he was late for class, but he cared little. He knew those classes easy, even though he looked like he wasn't paying attention he was a rather good listener.

His shotgun dangling on his side as he walked, tapping against his left leg as he took each step. His face was rather hard and his eyes were focused on the way in front of him, still walking at a slow pace and remaining silent to all that said anythign to him. It was to early, by his standards, to make any snide remark to them.

He disappeared down the hallway, making his way to his primary class. The Blue magic studies. He walked into the classroom and found his teacher was only occupied with a few students, not many took up Blue Magic as their primary ability. Usually people drifted toward summons or elemental magic, Blaize liked the thought of being more agile in his choice of magic.

Blue magic let him use whatever skill he was hit with and then instantly send it back to the caster. He liked the fact that he could get the upper hand on anyone if he knew the right spell and that person or things particular weakness. But, he also was a lot more familiar with his buddy tapping against his leg. He moved over to a near by seat and relaxed in it. Putting his feet up on the table, the few students around him either ignoring him or giving hateful looks.

He just smiled when he saw them, he was use to getting negative attitudes towards him. But, then again, he did give it quite often to his father and his psychotic mother. Now a days he thrived on that kind of tension, enjoying being able to make people feel uncomfrotable around him and slip up. Allowing him to show them how Blue magic was really suppose to be used. But there were plently of times when he had wished that the person would have nerves of steel and not simply faulter.

He also had times where the poisoned filled glares made him long for the kind of understanding form them. But, right now, he cared very little. Taking in the glares and stares and waiting to show them up again. He watched and listened as the teacher not only explained the magi he was using, but showed them. Today it was earth, something he knew something about. He watched intently, but didn't show it, as the teacher twisted the magi to his will.

But soon enough, Blaize grew bored with the teacher doing all the magic and not letting him touch the magi and use the magic to bend to his might and will. He got up and procceded to leave the room, he walked into the hallways, placing his hand over the grip of his shotgun. He instantly thought to head over to the shooting range. He wanted to see if they would let him use the sniper rifle they had. They had trained him to use the close and long ranged weapon and he wanted to be the best at both.

But, before he even was a hundred yards of the range he spotted a few classmates. Kyosuke Orias, Sakura Clyne, Havok Vermillion, Alex Glesen, Lazarus McCloud and Rinoa Ryuzaki, he smiled to himself as thought about how different all they were. Havok was the uncommon form of a true hero, selfless and heroic in his manor and speech. But Blaize knew better then to trust his outward apperance, Havok had been one of the few to actually befriend. Despite Blaize'z nasty attitude and reputation for being a jerk.

Kyosuke was far more intelligent that most would give him credit for, he seemed to know anything that you would need and he could summon it up in a split second. He did have a rather big head at times, but Blaize had that one pretty much all the time. He respected him and believe he would be valuable as an ally soon. And then their was Sakura.

She was of the most interesting out of all of them, besides her rather attractiveness and her mentle sharpness. She was very calm and relaxed most of the time, she didn't seem to be the one to try and draw attention to herself but seemed to do it naturally. And, completely opposite of Blaize, she only drew positive attitudes, Blaize hadn't gotten to know her all that well.

But it was worth a try now. Alex seemed to be the kind of shy one, he wasn't to sure he had not talked to him and was pretty sure Alex wouldn't talk to him. But he wasn't always right, he seemed to be sky, but he was probably one of the more fearless ones when it came to battle or when friends were in need. Lazarus seemed very hard hearted and rather cautious of something, Blaize wasn't sure what it could be.

And last but not least, was Rinoa, she seemed like a rather energetic young woman who could handle herself in any kind of tussle. He could see that she was obviously in the right mind set to be a rather impressive fighter and adventure. But she also seemed to hold some feelings in, it might be the typical anger anf frusteration but he wouldn't know unless he talked to them.

Now was just as good as any other time to talk to possible Risk Breakers. He made his way to the group, keeping his calm exterior as he kept a mischiveious grin upon his face. Ready to whip out his sharp words at anything that would come.

OOC: Hope this is ok with the the little group. Figuered I should get some interaction in there somewhere.
