I was watching a few of the animes i own over the weekend. and i always loved the fanservice they put in them to keep you interested even though if you get into the plot you don't need the fanservice but it helps anyway. But here the question i pose to all of you can their ever be to much fanservice  in an anime or not enough? ;) Personally i love as much fanservice you can squeeze into an anime. but really it's about balance. But what do you think about Fanservice?

I'm assuming, by "fanservice" you mean staring at a animated female's body and vice versa with the male's body? Or something along those lines? Because I read some things where people call fighting fanservice as well.

If it's not the latter, then I see no point in it. While there is no harm in it (atleast I don't think there is) it does not interest me at all. Staring, drooling over an animated character..... Is there really any point to that? But before I really jump the gun, maybe you should be a little clear in what fanservice is. Because I'm not too keen on the anime talk, and as I said, I've heard people mention "fanservice" in terms of fighting.

Never heard of it refered to as fighting.. it's always been either..hmm an example... every situation in anime where the male character gets a noise bleed is usually the result of some sort of fanservice. something like showing panties, bouncing breasts stuff like that...

Hey, everyone has their thing. Some peoples' thing is anime chicks. Deal wit it.

anywho, I don't have any problem with fanservice myself, personally panty shots don't really incite me all that much, just as long as they aren't out-of-place then their okay.

Usually, fanservice through fighting is out-of-place and annoying. In that sense, a LOT of anime is just purely fanservice. I.E. Inu-yasha.

Heh, I know everyone has their thing, and I respect that. Lets not turn this into a sarcastic session just because I question it. (please don't start the giant ego stuff)

I don't understand what you mean by saying Inuyasha is purily fanservice. Elaborate.

Edit: Ok, I'll take it back. As far as me hearing fanservice being mentioned in fighting. I'm assuming this because I heard it being mentioned in FFVII:AC. I assumed it was for the fighting or it's visuals.....

well, perhaps not purely, but think about this. There are 164 episodes of Inuyasha and of them maybe 1/2 (being generous) pertain to the story. Most of it is just filler episodes of the same crap happening over and over again.

Wikipedia saves the day again.

As for me, if fanservice is going by MY needs, then I'd say I'm more of the person that goes for sexual stuff. Like, I'll follow relationships that have absolutely nothing to do with the plotline in general. Especially if it's manlove or womanlove. Ahaha. I can't help it.

Anyway... InuYasha's fanservice doesn't suit my needs, that's for sure. If it did, I woulda seen Kikyo naked a long time ago. XD
But let's not turn this into something about InuYasha... just, no, don't go there.
Fan serviceFan service
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
(Redirected from Fanservice)
Jump to: navigation, search
Fan service (Japanese simply "saabisu", "service"), sometimes written as a single word, fanservice, is a vaguely defined term used in visual media ? particularly in anime fandom ? to refer to elements in a story that are unnecessary to a storyline, but designed to amuse or excite the audience.

The term is sometimes derogatory when used in criticism of clumsy, pandering use of visual fashions, or if the stories lack substance, such that fashions are the only thing notable about a series. Many fanservice treatments can be creative and unique, and hence an audience unfamilar with the fandom of a story may not understand these treatments ("easter eggs") or their meaning. This term is, however, occasionally used in the video gaming community, notably by players of MMORPGs. The meaning remains mostly the same?content added for the sake of fans and not for any actual gaming value?and is almost always derogatory.
Personally i thaught Fanservice was something only Girls in Anime did. i also didn't know that in Inuyasha their was fanservice. i thaught that was just an action anime? but whatever. i think Fanservice Rules and it keepS alot of Animes interesting you have admit that.

Wanna see fanservice? Watch the Gravitation OVA... it had absolutely nothing to do with the storyline, and yet it was only funny if you know the storyline religiously. ("I'll write great lyrics that'll awe even Maki Murakami, declared Shuichi, sparkling for no reason, as usual.") And the whole part with Shuichi's, um, dream...
YUKI IN A THONG!
was fanservice entirely. But hey, I loved it. And everything after about volume 5 of the manga was pretty much book after book of fanservice. But I ain't complaining.

How I feel about fanservice hinges mainly on the way it's presented (which is a weak way of saying, "It depends"). I find some fanservice to be completely unattractive and some of it to be great fun, and although I wish that hinged on how blatant or subtle it is, it really doesn't, or else I would've had a lot more problems with Utena and Melody of Oblivion (and stuff like Oku-sama wa Mahou Shoujo, for that matter).

I used to think that the relatively restrained fanservice in Full Metal Panic irked me, until I figured out that what irked me was the entire darn show. I was just taking out my issues with other aspects of the series on poor Chidori's figure. This became especially clear when I started Fumoffu and actually enjoyed the fanservice in it (mm, beach episode).

I don't see much appeal in pure fanservice anime (e.g. Girls Bravo), because once it has to become that risque, why not just be a real man or woman and find yourself some porn? :animesigh

I think the amount of fan service in an anime can be enough, too much, or too little, to different people. For me, how the anime is made is pretty much good for me, the amount of fan service sometimes follows the story line too, too much fan service may ruin the meanning of the anime.

I think fanservice is an outdated technique, and although wikipedia states cameos and references under fanservice, I would beg to differ (I'd call them what I just called them). Fanservice I've always thought as that panty-shot-esque stuff in any show.

And in that regard, it's what I'm referring to. Back in the day when half of what one watched sucked, it was an effective technique for making one feel like it wasn't a complete waste of time, and could even fool one into liking a show. But now, where information is at everyone's fingertips, where one can discover the high-caliber and worthwhile shows, and disregard the rest of the garbage, there's just no place for fanservice now.

Unless that's what you've been watching shows for, haha.

I suppose if it's incorporated in a clever or humorous way, I wouldn't really mind it. However, I tend to shy away from series that are chock filled with fanservice, since most of it is rather distasteful and gets old really quickly. Besides, fanservice often caters way more to guys than girls.

On the other hand, I don't usually mind fanservice in concerts and such, since the purpose of most concerts is purely to entertain the audience. But anime series try to tell an actual story, and more often than not, fanservice just detracts from it.

I?d like to say I don?t really care for fan service, but it would be more accurate to say I don?t care for the series with women who?s breasts are so big that given a chance they would fall over. It?s just so distracting, since most women aren?t anywhere that big, that I find it a bit annoying and usually don?t even bother to finish the show.

Now on the other hand, a show with the occasional guy kissing another guy, well to be honest it does get my interest. Otherwise I?d probably not even bother to watch a show like Gravitation as the story line, and the dub voices are really annoying.

So for the most part I don?t really care for it, but some fan service I don?t mind. So long as it?s nothing but fan service.

Whenever I see the topic of fanservice brought up in forums, it usually seems to go down like this - men see a naked girl and go "OMFG I SOOO WANNA DO HER LOL", yet see two naked guys banging each other and are totally turned off. Yet for the females, they'll see an upskirt shot of a girl and be grossed out, but they see the afformentioned naked men banging each other and go "OMGGGGGG HAWT LOLZ!!!!1!!!1!1!!!!!111!". It would appear that genders are turned off at fanservice that's targeted at the opposite gender, which is nautural.

Now, for myself, it depends on the situation, As, bellpickle said, anime is more about telling a story than fanservice, and too much fanservice just seems to be distracting. I feel the same way. If it's just fanservice thrown in every once in awhile, or done so it's not blatantly obviously supoosed to be fanservice (like Elfen Lied, in some instances), then I don't mind. But if an anime is just pure fanservice, then I'm most likely going to be turned off, regardless of what gender it caters to in terms of fanservice.

So, what it boils down to for me is is that if anime has just a bit of fanservice, I'll watch, and it won't faze me, but if it's just pantyshot after pantyshot or kissing males after kissing males, I'll most likely stop watching or reading and go find something else.
