Doublehex
-AKIRA -Blue Submarine -Cowboy Beebop -Elfen Lied -Full Metal Alchemist -Full Metal Panic! -Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu -Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid -Ghost in the Shell and Ghost in the Shell 2 -Gundam SEED* -Gundam Wing -Hellsing -Last Exile -Neon Genesis Evangelion -Outlaw Star -RahXephon -Wolf's Rain -Voices of a Distant Star I would like to know of any anime series you would reccomend to me now, based off of the shows I have listed above, all of which I have watched or are currentley being watched. I am more into the good characterization than comedy, although that is not to say that I do not have a funny bone (regardless of what RiflesAtRecess will tell you). Also, as a note, I do not mind nudity so much just as long as its a nude shot every other shot and actually has a REASON for being in the scene. EDIT: I forgot to put this down, * means I am currentley watching the said series.
TheResplendent
If you liked Outlaw Star and Hellsing, chances are you'll like Trigun. It's a great series with similar aspects with a lot of great comedy and action. Lot of great characters if you give them a chance, takes more focus then usual to see the depth in a lot of their personalities. Another reccomendation based on the same group would be Gungrave. If you haven't seen anything from Naruto, you should atleast watch up to atleast episode 138 (or whenever the RS arc ends, it slips my mind atm). Naruto is one of the best animes for character variation mixed with great action. Bleach as well is awesome for it's characters. It's hard to say which one is better, because they both offer a great variety, but in different fashions. I see your big into mech animes, but i can't really reccomend any other besides the ones you have listed, you pretty much have the best ones watched already. musical_kitten
Real Bout High School might be nice for you. It sounds like something you'd enjoy. I haven't gotten very far yet, but its pretty good. Also, just for the record, anything by Clamp is good. Or most everything. I prefer Tsubasa, and have read the first volume of X/1999, which were good. Hope I helped you out. If not, sorry. Jubei Yagyou
It seems like you're starting to watch more mech stuff. If you really like it, some of the better ones that I prefere are G Gundam and Gundam 08th ms team. Both of them are a little shorter than usual but you get a lot out of it in my opinion. Dagger
Monster: 74 episodes of enthralling story and characterization. Often compared to The Fugitive. Big O & Big O II: Roger Smith kicks *** and fights crime, Batman-style, in a fantastic mecha anime that just happens to be absolutely packed with layers of meaning. The second season is as mind-bending as the most deliciously labyrinthine parts of Evangelion. Black Lagoon: A must-watch if you like action. Talk to Fasteriskhead if you're interested in its philosophical implications; that isn't my department, but I will say that for a show which purports to be all about noisy pwnage, it sure can make you shiver and think. Gunslinger Girl: Featuring little cyborg assassin girls who wrestle with emotional problems while they're not going on bloody rampages (or planting gardens, or sipping tea, or watching the stars). You may feel the need to bring out some tissues; the slivers of hope are what make it tragic.
-Full Metal Alchemist -RahXephon* -Wolf's Rain
All three of these are BONES anime. So how about sampling some more animated goodness from the same studio? Their other licensed series are Eureka Seven, Angelic Layer, Scrapped Princess and Mars Daybreak. Their unlicensed anime are Ouran High School Host Club and Jyu Oh Sei. Phantom Memory Kurau has been licensed but hasn't yet been released. ~Dagger~
Fasteriskhead
Black Lagoon:[/B']Talk to Fasteriskhead if you're interested in its philosophical implications...
Good god, I guess I've actually gone and become "philosophy guy" here. Which in practical terms means that whenever I make a post longer than four paragraphs it acts as a kiss of death for whatever thread it's in. :animeswea (T Dagger also what's this I hear about you living near Bethesda? Man, that's only about an hour north of me! We should get together and geek out over Mushishi sometime) Okay, onto the recs. Well, first thing I notice: most of the stuff on your list is straight action stuff. Fine if you like that kind of thing, but if you're really interested in exploring anime it wouldn't hurt to branch out. I'm not going to push this too much, but try some shoujo or something; His and Her Circumstances is very good entry-level stuff, you should already be ready for it (having watched NGE, and having apparently survived), and it's a fantastic series if you ignore the rather sudden ending. Heck, you might even learn that you like girly stuff. Back in the action scene, Cowboy Bebop is de rigeur but I don't see it on your list. It's practically made for american audiences, and is all kinds of crazy fun. And if you like it, check out Samurai Champloo (its "sequel" of sorts). I'll second the recs for Trigun and Eureka Seven. Trigun is basically anime junk food, very fun and you can take down the whole series in a week and not even feel it. And E7, well, E7 is the best thing to happen to mecha anime for about three or four years (and, for my money, it beats the pants off of RahXephon). Other than that, I'd suggest getting some comedy in there somewhere (good characterization be damned). Sunabouzo (I think they're releasing it over here as "Desert Punk" or something) is a wonderfully obnoxious action-comedy kind of thing, which doesn't strike me as being too hard to get into. Now, frankly if you're looking for a REASON for everything in a scene being there (I'm amazed at how common this is; have anime fans been reading Leibniz?) then you're going to hate it, because the show is excessive as hell. But it's also very funny if you let it be, though.
Fyxe
Since some of the things you've listed include some issues to think about, or whatever the case is, I'd suggest Serial Experiments: Lain. This is an odd one, but I definitely enjoyed it. It takes some time to think about things and moves somewhat quickly. It attacks a lot of major issues in the world today and deals with interesting concepts. It isn't the most... action-packed kid on the block, but if you liked the Ghost in the Shell series, this might catch your interest. It's a relatively short series, I believe about thirteen episodes, you can buy the whole set easy for about twenty-five dollars. Compared to how other people have explained Lain to me is that it's a "mind f**k anime"... and that pretty much hits the nail on the head. Half the time I was watching it, I didn't know what I was witnessing. Haha
Delta
Hot dang! If you're done watching GITS:SAC, why not go all the way and watch the first movie and Innocence? Mild mind**** goodness from the entities who brought you the Puppet Master, Individual Eleven, and *really* obvious Catcher in the Rye references. Characterization, huh? I guess watching Texhnolyze'll go you good. It's a futuristic (think GITS) Japanese mafia anime. The little comedy in it is dark and just the first few episodes will take you in a gore trip. Blood+ ain't got nothing on this baby.
KungFuChan
www.anime-planet.com Great site for finding recommendations for anime. you put the anime you like in and it returns what other people have recommended as other titles that they also liked. Theres alot of anime out there.... plenty to choose from.... i have enough to watch anime 24/7 for 80 days... but like hell i'll do that lol. Golden Boy is one of my all time favs.. so for anyone that hasn't seen i recommend you go find it.

I said I saw the movies! On another note, would I be interested in Escaflowne? I heard some good things about it, but from what I understand, it is somewhat of a girl-oriented series, so I want your guys opinions on it. 2010DigitalBoy
I'm guessing you're into the hardcore stuff or what I call 'good' anime (hehe). Well, let's see... you are obviously a fan of mechs as you have much mech anime, but I think you got most of the good ones. Definitely go for Big O, as that is a great mech anime with great story. Branching away from that I support Blase's reccomendation for Lain, as well as reccommend Paranoia Agent. PA isn't hard to understand like Lain, but it is still very phsychological and has a lot of unique elements like Evangelion. Usualy these two are mentioned in the same breath as Boogiepop Phantom, but I have only seen a couple episodes of the anime. While on that note, Boogiepop also has a series of novels which are freaking brilliant, the first one being my favorite book ever. there is also a short manga based on the first book. Also, while it is very much comedic, go watch FLCL. A lot of people take one look at it and brush it off, but it really is deep if you pay attention and the story is great. Until I saw EVA, this was my favorite anime. It's only 6 episodes, and you should definitely watch it on adult swim next time they play it, oor it may even be on the adultswim fix on their website where you can watch it for free. Also, don't get Escaflowne. I dont know about the series, but the movie was just bad, and the manga is just sorta... meh.
MR.CO
Don't want to be too forward (seeing that I am the new kid in school), but if you wanted to take a quick break from mecha, maybe you should try Samurai Deeper Kyo. Its got some great characters and fantastic action. Its only 25 or 26 eps and the animation is great. Scryed is also really good!!!(24 eps) The storyline seems real simple but will definately keep you entertained and the action will have you hooked! (just a thought)
Fasteriskhead
On another note, would I be interested in Escaflowne? I heard some good things about it, but from what I understand, it is somewhat of a girl-oriented series, so I want your guys opinions on it.
The series is quite good, although it hasn't aged all that well appearance-wise. It's actually just about an even split between the shounen robot fightin' and the shoujo wistful glances, crushes, and various pretty boys. The real attraction is Yoko Kanno at her peak: she'd just done Macross Plus a year or two before, a year or so after Escaflowne she'd go on to do Bebop, and the score's still one of the high points of TV anime. Just be prepared for the show's ending, which is a bit... odd. (HINT: the Escaflowne director also did Noein, and the Escaflowne conclusion makes the connection very clear) The movie's mediocre, though. Skip it.
