The Official Band of OtakuBoards

Would anybody be interested in helping create one? An OB band would be a just-for-fun kind of thing, and the members wouldn't even have to leave there living room (or wherever their computer may be). I think an official band would be pretty nifty, and it would probably be a lot of fun.

We could play music from video games (such songs from Legend of Zelda, Super Mario, etc.), as well as maybe even write original songs that have to do with OB and every weird little thing that goes on around here.
Prick Wizard and his obsession with elves, for example. =P
Perhaps we could even compose a theme song for the boards.

Since the band members wouldn't be able to come together, practice, and record songs, we could pull a Jakehammaren (his band's members are located in different states, as I recall) and have each member record their part as an Mp3 on to their computer and send it to the band manager to have it included in a song.

I don't think it would be too hard. I can play guitar, so what the band will need is at least a bassist and a drummer. If anyone wants to help and can play another instrument - cello, piano, trumpet, whatever - then we could probably work those in as well.

So, is anyone interested?

Shy came up with the idea to make it an event, sort of like American Idol (but of much better quality), to decide the band members. I like his idea better, so that's probably what's going to happen if something happens.

As for the original genre, we'd probably go for a variety of different ones so that the whole of OB can find something to like; even if we had to venture out of rock genres or something.

Wow. This idea rocks my socks.
I play guitar and trombone, and have always dreamed of being in a band.
But, I'm still a little confused about some things.
Like, how many people would be in this band?
And what would the name of this band be?
Would everyone in the OB be able to vote for a name they liked, or would the band members decide?
Well, anyway, even if I am not able to be in this band, I really, really hope it works out.

I can provide some music in the terms of weirdness.

You need an oboe? I'm the gal you want. I've realized that many pieces composed for anime and video games contain the oboe, which makes me happy. =3

I also "play" marching cymbals, for whatever stupid use that may provide you...

This is quite an interesting idea...but I just realized another problem: Sound equipment. It's difficult to record with a more classical instrument - basic things like trumpets and clarinets - on a microphone. Just a curiousity. =O

Hmm... I see you're employing the ol' Postal Service method of writing songs.

Well, not to brag or anything (seeing as how that'd only increase my ego), but I've been known to make some pretty amazing beats. Doesn't matter what genre. I'm up for it.

So I call shotgun on drummer.

Ah, but then there's the competition. You'll have to outdrum myself if you want in on this band. So I'd also be interested in drums, as I already play in 2 bands with drums (one of which has had about a 300 person audience).

EDIT: And I have an acoustic drumset and an electric drumset for easy recording.

I really wish I was able to also try out for guitar, but I am currently way out of practice. Also, the only way I can get an mp3 out of it is to use my webmic, which blocks out most external noise. I've tried using it before to play a song for someone and it just came out horribly quiet. I need something where I can just plug my guitar into my computer and fiddle with it. Until then, I cannot compete or play for you guys. :-/

However, I will greatly enjoy seeing what comes of this contest and the eventual band.

(Actually, I could try out as a singer, but I seriously doubt I have what you're looking for unless you want some high-pitched singing and Grindcore screams. XD)

OK I dont play any instrument, but I dont think it's really fair to have members compete against each other for spots in this band if it's to be like all official or whatever.

I was thinking instead, maybe you could have like a 'manager' (Marsh or Shy or whoever). And they would have a list of all musical Otakus willing to contribute toward projects, and a list of the instruments they all play.

The manager could then choose a project (say a cover of the Mario tune, doesnt matter what). They could also then name the main instruments for the said projects, and these instrument players would then make the bulk of the tune up. And then extra players could then flesh out the song with oboes and cymbals etc.

This way I reckon it'll be less exclusive and give more people a chance to contribute to the 'band'. You could rotate drummers (etc) between songs and stuff too. Or have each person do different segments of the song. It's not like you're limited to one of each instrument per song for any reason.

Yay inclusivity!

Man, the more this goes on the more and more it sounds like Gene Simmons' Rock School. :animestun

It's just a thought, but you should download Guitar Pro if you haven't got it already. It's incredibly useful for any guitarist -- you can get tabs for existing songs, or make your own. Either way, you can play pieces back to see how it sounds, and it would be a good method of sending files across, assuming the receiver also has Guitar Pro.

Hmm... I don't have to be drummer. However, I am a very well-rounded musician all together, especially in the field of sound engineering, mixing, and mastering. I also play/write piano or synth pieces, play guitar/bass, and I can also belt out some good punkish/rockish/hip hop vocals.

As I said, I'm a one man band.
