where has all the articles on myotaku gone??? sorry if there's been another thread like these or smt similar. i just wanna know... cos one fine day i logged onto otaku n poof! all the articles were gone n i was like???

It was in the last article news report on the front page, it said it was to undergo retirement, unfortunatley. Why it did i know not.

So it's based on what is more convenient and simpler to maintain (as well as hints of accentuating what i already believe to be pretty popular in OB and MO)...though i suppose the > 1% (if that's true, i have no way of knowing for sure...but i won't question it) is a good enough reason to emphasize when making a supporting argument. It's really a shame...i always saw it as the section which required them most intellegence and perception.

And that's pretty much the whole story, as far as I know. But y'know, who cares? Everyone prefers fanart, podcasts, quizzes, fanart, blogs, books on business concepts, and also fanart anyways. Maybe the articles section wouldn't have failed so badly if it had included [i]pictures[/i] on the side, or (even better) [I]animated gifs[/I] and [I]high-speed flash animations[/I], as I myself petitioned for many times. All those [I]words[/I] are just too boring, you know?

[COLOR=maroon]I don't see this as a bad thing. theOtaku has been due for a fix. The standards for everything - not just articles - has been so low and even pathetic. It's good to see them not spreading themselves out too thin and focusing on less, so the quality will be higher.

If theOtaku can be a "high standard" website consisting of only multimedia, then I would be happier than if it was just a "pan-anime" site with no standard.[/COLOR]

That kinda sicks, I liked writing OB articles and I planned to get back to it as one of my next things to do, but I guess I can cross it off my project list now.

The members of SOAP and other article writers b****ed forever on this topic. When the articles closed and it was posted on the news page, it received more comments then the Art of Otaku contest winner. Art vs. writing. =) [/rant rant]

The articles section, although gone on theOtaku, is technically not "gone gone". bellpickle set up a [url=http://community.livejournal.com/societyofsoap/]LiveJournal community[/url] for anybody who wants to join and/or watch. In the meantime, I'm working on an actual article website...I just need contributions. [strike]Stop being lazy you guys![/strike]

Getting rid of that section frees up those resources for use in other areas. Thus, higher quality is [at least available to be] implemented. He could have just left the section up there without updating it, maybe, but that would just be tacky.

And let's not forget that Adam made a promise to work on a new article-related myO feature. If I were you, instead of focusing all my energy on complaining about the present situation, I would be gaining some support and holding Adam's feet to the fire to make sure he keeps that promise later, and that it ends up being a quality product.

I couldn't know whether Adam's claims about the traffic comparisons between Fanart and Articles are correct, but they're obviously in that ballpark, meaning art is still more popular on theO. The only reason the closing of Articles got so many comments was that it was controversial, and the contest was not. Controversy draws more attention.

Again, it sucks that Articles was shut down, but these things happen sometimes, and sometimes you'll end up in the minority whether your side is better than the other or not. It's no excuse to look at it illogically.

It might end up being something that?s far more interesting and diverse than what was up before. I just hope we don?t have to wait to long for it as I?m eager to see what he has in mind. [/COLOR]
