Show us around

It's no secret that OB's community is quite diverse, many different people from many different places. I thought it would be interesting for everyone to share a little of their hometown with everyone else by playing the part of "tour guide".

The scenario is, if any of us were to visit your hometown (taking into consideration that not everybody lives where they were born or raised, this includes where ever you consider to be your "home" out of all the places you have lived) which places would you show us or recommend that we check out? What are the hottest spots in your town or city? Any monuments? Any place that just simply serves good pizza? Whatever it is you think makes living there worth it. Tell us what it is, where it is and why it's so great.

For Example:

I live in New York (United States) - One place i'd consider to be a giant attraction to be checked out is Broadway. This includes any of the popular (some less popular then others) broadway musicals that are performed there, there are a large variety of shows and many of them worth seeing in person. Even if your not a fan of music or plays, there always seems to be a way to captivate everyone's attention once in attendance. They can be quite expensive (seats range anywhere between $25-$200 depending on seats and certain deals at certain times) but are rarely ever dissapointing. In addition many of the restaurants/bars in the area have many deals when dining before or after a musical, given you provide proof (tickets, ticket stubs, playbills, etc) and often result in a free appetizer, certain percentage off your check, free drink, etc etc. It's a great experience as a whole, since it isn't just about the show itself. Though that is the main event  .

This is obviously, amongst many other places. But i'll leave some for future posts after reading about some other locales.

I live in an ever growing city in Colorado (US), seriously, it's getting bigger by the day. Although a lot of teenagers don't like living in this town because there aren't a ton of "teen" atttractions, I really like it here. It's kind of a love/hate rerlationship. But if I had to show someone around, I would take them to float the Colorado River. This is super fun in the summertime, you just get some intertubes and rope them together and float down the river in the sun. It's always important to bring a raft and cooler too to hold all your drinks. There's great fishing, hiking, camping, outdoorsy stuff. And the view from the monument is awesome.

It's a pretty cool place I guess.

Well I've lived in 16 different houses, some which I liked more than others, though most of them were located where I live now, in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

VA Beach is a tourist attraction for the humungous beach on the far side of town. It's alright, but always crowded and stuff. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of the beach. All kinds of cool things happen there, though, like shows and monster ruck rallys and stuff. There's a nice-sized night scene down by the beach, too.

Personally, I more enjoy the lesser known beaches which you can find a few miles up on the James River in Newport News. They are nice, although you gotta find one without too many jellyfish.

Anyway, I don't know if it's like this in other states, but theres a 7-11 on every block here in VA Beach. It's always fun to walk to 7-11 and hang out. Only place I really care about round here other than the mall. Lotsa good stores around town...nothing really special. There's a skating rink which pparently gets some good traffic, as well

What's to know about my hometown. It' a dump and I hate it. The only reason I started to well in college is so that I'll have better chances of getting into a good university so I can leave this crackpot once and for all.

In all fairness, there are only two good things about Birmingham: the local GameStation (inside it is awesome, everything reminds you of the booths they have at E3, and there's a 90% chance that they'll have what you're looking for, old or new), and the musical instrument store, who must be sick to death of me... whenever I'm bored I'll just pop over and test out all the guitars which I can't afford. :p

I guess I should be a little grateful though; Brum is no where near as bad as Coventry, where I use to live.

There?s plenty of things to do here at the state capital of Utah. From plays to attend, gardens to visit, mountain trails to hike in the summer and ski resorts in the winter. If you can?t find something to do here then you?re just being lazy and not really looking. As for what I would show people, it just depends on what you like to do. If hiking is your thing there are lots of nice trails and waterfalls to hike to. Though like DeadSeraphim I?d probably just give you a map and tell you to go to what ever strikes your fancy.

If you don?t mind traveling a little there are five national parks in the state of Utah and since I don?t have a car I?ve only seen pictures. But I understand Arches is only about four hours from where I live and if I did have transportation I?d get up early and we would go spend the weekend down in Moab Utah. If I remember correctly there is another national park right next to Arches, I think it?s called Canyonlands, so I?m sure we?d have a great weekend between visiting the two parks and going on a river trip as well. My town has a giant donut. Ooh. Ahh.

There's also the Workman-Temple Family Homestead Museum, but I haven't been there since I was in elementary school. It's basically a collection of houses that date back to the 1920s. I'm sure that you can see now why I haven't been there since elementary school. Only on rare occasions are houses interesting. To the homestead's credit, though, they've been showing some cool silent films over the past few weeks.

And, uh, you can come and see all of the fast food franchises - we've got lots of them!! Yeah!! Especially J&B's because they've got autographed pictures of Woody Allen and Jamie Lee Curtis!! Wow!!

Interesting, most interesting.

Well aside from a mountain, a river, a few houses and a bunch of fields, there's absolutely nothing else to see round where I live. The nearest town is about three and a half miles away, and with a population of only a thousand people, there's not a whole lot to do there, in fact scratch that, there's nothing to do there. The next nearest town is more of a small city by Irish standards with about twenty-five thousand people, there's a few things there of interest, a museum, a library, a park, an arboretum, as well as two or three good shops for videogames and music, but nothing really special about it.

Overall I prefer living in the country, it's quieter and there's not a lot of jerks that annoy you when all your neighbours are related to you. Seriously my dad and all his brothers live next to one another, so we never have problems. That said, I'm lucky to have the internet out here, so maybe the town isn't so bad.

Any of you stupid bastards foolish enough to take a trip out to where I am are gonna be in for a rude awakening. You'll be met with a good old fashioned tar and feathering, then I'll drag you (behind my car) to the Jersey Shore, Ocean City, where I'll proceed to reveal to you the wonder that is the greatest arcades on the Eastern seaboard.

So basically a trip to Cinnaminson is a trip down the shore.

I am currently situated in a little city known as Victoria, Texas.

There's nothing that would really be considered worthwhile here aside from the Victoria Mall, the Cinemark theater, and a nice little burger joint known as Jim's Big Burger (I love those burgers).

Actually, I live only within Victoria county, outside of city limits, and it is very peaceful in my residence.

As for city life - it could not be worse. Gangs roam back alleys every night (the police seem to have a bit of trouble controlling them), there's constant vandalism, and the schools here just, to put it simply, suck. My old middle school, when reviewed this past year for academic performance in the state of Texas, was registered as academically inadequate, and I get the feeling that my high school is not too far away from being granted the same title.

Do not come here. Do not even plan to pass through here on a trip. (However, if you're ever in the area and want to see the "good" in the city, come see me first in my "safe" little "colony" outside of the city.)

What can i, an ordinary citizen of Pleasant View, TN, say about the biggest medium small sized city in all of the middle tennessee area?! You're probably already half way out of your door after that extraordinary introduction, but hold on just one minute! If you continue reading i'm sure you'll be much better prepared for your amazing adventure to my hometown!! ^L^

First things first, you'll need a place to stay. Seeing as Pleasant View doesn't have any major hotel chains you'll probably have to camp out at the local Dollar General parking lot. If you're lucky though you'll know a great wonderful place to stay, my home. My home has a state of the art waffle preparation device, imported temperature regulator units, free head relaxation modulators, and even overhead breeze generators!!! Some of you out there may be willing to put down over $30,000 per night to stay at such a luxorious local, but if you mention this ad you'll be able to stay there for a low low price of $2,000 a night!!! OMIGOSH!

During the days we recommend you visit such historic landmarks as the big water tower thingy, or maybe even the local eateries. We have many high class places to eat: an oriental cuisine buffet, a sandwich chooser place, and a Sonic.

We hope you come and visit soon!!

If anyone wanted to come here in Hickville, Illinois, I'd haul them to either the nearest town east of here, or west of here. This place is literally surrounded by, uh, better places. All that's here is a tiny Wal-Mart, random fast food places, three video stores, and other random crap.

Either that, or haul them to St. Louis. 'Bout an hour and a half away.

I would love to show all the members of OB my country Ecuador. Well we have beaches, lots of sun, the bay area is nice. We have mountains, hot springs, llamas, the Archipelago of Galapagos. Last but not least, we have the Amazon, for anyone willing to venture off. :catgirl:

Welcome to Gardnerville, Nevada. Population is in the eye of the beholder.

The only real thing I can say about Gardnerville is how fake it is. Consisting mostly of senior citizens, the residents resist change. Consequently, it's a small city with the air of a small town. It's small enough that you're expected to engage in small talk with anyone you meet walking down the street, yet big enough that you have no idea who it is you're talking to.

It's all just so fake. Real estate prices are sky-high for a town with an OK view of some mountains you forget are there within a week. If you're not a rancher (or live on the Native American reservation), I don't know why you'd want to live here. You've got a Smith's, a Scolari's, a Raley's, and a few fast food joints. Oh, wheeee. There's nothing to do here and everyone my age is a smoker. The cumulative IQ of my school is around 4. I really hate it here. I much prefer Reno. That's where my dad lives, that's where I was born and raised, and that's where I am right now, actually. A lot more fun. I lurve Reno.

In Junction City, Kansas, nothing [to me] is appeasing to the eye. Why, we have flat land, animals roaming the plains, highways that are so straight-arrow and smooth that if you were to go to sleep with your car on cruise and awaken 5 minutes later, you would still be traveling... *Thinks to self for a moment* ...Okay, maybe I exaggeratted a little with that last one. ...Maybe 2 minutes, tops. *Laughs*.

Seriously, nothing special though BK. The perks, I guess, are a Wal-Mart (yay!), a Gamestop (definitely sweet!) and thick, beautiful women on the city side. (...crap, forgot I was married there for a minute...) Yeah, Kansas has it's perks, though I really can't think of them because I don't look at Kansas being the prime state of the U.S.A..

That's why i'm sooo glad i'm in the U.S. Army! *Smiles to self* That way, I can see as many different states as I want whenever the military needs me! Muahahaha!

Honestly though, i'm just glad I have Otaku here on my PC to come to whenever I want...
