Guest scram x toots
I'm making a mix for my girlfriends birthday, and now I'm turning to OtakuBoards to tell me what to put on it >.< . What are your suggestions for sappy/cute songs? or sad songs? She's into mostly new-ish stuff, but that doesn't mean she hates the old. She is into some emo and hardcore stuff. She also likes some indie and techno and industrial. She loves sad emo songs. I have made a mix for her before and she really liked these songs: "such great heights"(postal service) "hate me"(blue october) "i'm the man who loves you"(Wilco) "i Miss You"(incubus) "this modern love"(bloc party) "somewhere only we know"(keane) "perfect drug"(nine inch nails) "run"(snow patrol) SOOOO i was wondering if someone could give me some suggestions.
sakurasuka
But here's my list of recommendations. [Bold are personal favorites/highly recommended] Breathe [2 AM] - Anna Nalick I'm Sorry - Flyleaf Sad Story - Plain White T's Hey there Delilah - Plain White T's I Write Sins not Tragedies - Panic! at the Disco Mad World - Gary Jules Confessions - Bleed the Dream Overcrowded Room - Bleed the Dream Here [in your arms] - HelloGoodbye Work - Jimmy Eat World Bound for the Floor - Local H Almost Perfect - Ingram Hill Absolutely [story of a girl] - Nine Days Damaged People - Depeche Mode Prozak [Be like me] - Dexter Freebish Friday I'm in Love - The Cure The Widow - Mars Volta Replace Me - Family Force 5 Alright, there's a fairly short list, since I know the rest of OB will be here soon, heh. But I really think you should consider Here in your Arms. And Absolutely. If not only 'cause they're sweet.
2010DigitalBoy
The Widow - Mars Volta
*adds you to the awesome list* Anyway, give her something by Coheed and Cambria. Anything from their first CD will do for her tastes, but if your aiming for her heart (hopefully not with a weapon) try Wake Up. In fact, put A Favor House Atlantic on there just cuz it kicks ***. DeadSeraphim
Disarm and By Starlight were favourites of my ex. They're bittersweet but beautiful songs.
Retribution
I have made a mix for her before and she really liked these songs: "such great heights"(postal service)
I'd recommend The District Sleeps Alone Tonight by them much more than Such Great Heights. It's slightly sad, but it picks up at the end and if she likes The Postal Service, she's going to love this song.
"i Miss You"(incubus)
Admiration, Aqueous Transmission, and Wish You Were Here are all very good songs by Incubus. Admiration has a medium tempo, but it's definitely about loving someone and (again) it's sad. Aqueous Transmission has a more Japanese feel to it, much slower and relaxed, and not really sad. Check it out though. Wish You Were Here has a medium tempo and heavier guitars than all the other songs I've mentioned thus far.
"run"(snow patrol)
Great pick.
Goodbye, Face
You cannot have a sad emo mix without "Some Natures Catch No Plagues" by Saetia. It's... impossible. Also, go for some Radiohead, like "Paranoid Android" or "Anyone Can Play Guitar." Oh, and props on the He Is Legend screen name. :p
Albert Flasher
Young Lust by Pink Floyd. *Ahem* Anything by Barry White. Lights or Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin' by Journey Just Like a Woman by Bobby Dylan Umm... These Eyes or Share The Land by the Guess Who Those are my suggestions.
Mr. Maul
If she liked the original version of "Such Great Heights," I would suggest getting your hands on a copy of the John Tejada Remix of it. It'll be something different, and yet familliar for her. Also, "Ever and a Day" and "Morning Star" off of AFI's Art of Drowning album are a must. Not necessarily emo, but they get the job done. Anything by Regina Spektor is good, too.
Claire
Also, "Ever and a Day" and "Morning Star" off of AFI's Art of Drowning album are a must. Not necessarily emo, but they get the job done.
Gasp. Daaang. I was going to suggest Morningstar. Well, I second that motion. It happens to be one of my FAVORITE AFI songs ever. I'd also mention "This Time Imperfect," off AFI's Sing the Sorrow album, but it's more depressing and miserable than just plain sad. It's also hidden behind two songs on one track, so unless you downloaded it separately or turned it into a single track yourself, it could be a little hard to get. I'd suggest "Existentialism on Prom Night" by Straylight Run, "Telescope Eyes" by Eisley, "Wish You Were Here," "Any Old Actress," and "Signs of the Zodiac" by Rasputina (a darkwave, indie cello band. WYWH is a cover of Pink Floyd, by the way). Those are all pretty songs that could probably cause sadness. I also really like Iron and Wine's version of "Such Great Heights," so you should probably check it out.
Guest scram x toots
Oh, and props on the He Is Legend screen name. :p
HOLY MAN! I didn't think anyone would catch that. I give you props for knowing where it came from. And thanks to everyone for the vast amount of songs I have to choose from now, even though I already knew some of them, it has helped so far in making the mix. JCBaggee
"Solace" & "Sunburn" by Fuel "My Immortal" by Evanescence "Give My Love To Rose" by Johnny Cash "All That I Am" by Rob Thomas "The Kill" by 30 Seconds To Mars and of course... "Lets Get It On" ^_~ Har! E-mail me and I can send you files of the songs. Well, except for "Let's Get It On". Fyxe
Anything by Kill Hannah is probably a good choice. "The One I Love" by The Rasmus. Haha. "Phone Call" by The Faint. "Millionaire" by theSTART. "Flirt" by Zeromancer. "Make Up Sex" by Clear Static. I would suggest some things by The LoveCrave, but I'm not sure if you'd be able to download anything, considering their first album isn't out yet. XD "Strict Macine" by Goldfrapp. Aaand... "Fun Is A Floppy B**tch" by Electrocute (just for the hell of it.) The Birthday Massacre is an awesome band, too... so, you could check out some things by them and see if it's her cup of tea. That's all I have off the top of my head.
visualkei
Based on the songs you posted by postal service, keane, snow patrol... have you considered Death Cab For Cutie? it's a band with the same vocalist as Postal Service, and I like them better. Death Cab: I Will Follow You Into the Dark, and I adore Tiny Vessels. Black Rebel Motorcycle Club: Howl These songs are all pretty slow. Mr. Maul
A song I am currently obsessed with is "Tunnels" by The Arcade Fire. It's hopefully romantic and musically great. It's just a good song overall.
