Inventions for which you feel grateful

There are so many things I am grateful for which have already been mentioned. Computers, internet, indoor plumbing and all the other creature comforts that help make me the lazy person I am. A couple of items at the top of my list are:

- Central heat and air. I love having a cool house in the summer and a toasty warm one in the winter. My grandparents house didn't have central heat or air so in the winter you heated the house with the fireplace, wood burning stove and portable heaters. It seemed like my grandpa was always chopping firewood.

- Modern textiles. Light weight fabrics that can keep you warm or cool. Best example. Look at those old pictures of climbers on Mt. Everest. All they had to protect themselves from the elements were layers of wool. Brrr!

Hmm, appears that things that moderate my temp. are important to me. There are so many things out in our world that are just nifty. Oh and another invention I used today that I absolutely love:

- Automatic bobbin winder. Anyone who sews knows how annoying it is to have to wind thread on a bobbin by hand. Most newer models of sewing machines have auto bobbin winders and they totally rock. Truly it is a gift from the sewing gods.

While there's a backflip to the advances made in medicine, I'd have to say that I'm mighty thankful for them in the end. Not only do they give hope to cure diseases but gives everyone a broader understanding of the human body. That's pretty cool in my book.

I also agree with Pumpkin, indoor plumbling is another great gift to the world. Along with medicine it's been doing a great job of cutting down illnesses that used to spread in poor hygiene conditions.

Though I wonder if the bacteria of today hadn't evolved the way it has if we'd stayed in the muck?

I?ve heard about using beer to get the bugs, but I worry that when Aaryanna brings her dog with her to visit that she might get into it. The poison I use is safe for pets so I don't have to worry if she accidentally gets some. It costs more but it's worth it as I would just cry if I hurt her dog. As for the beer... I think she would be pretty annoyed if I got her dog drunk or sick. o_O Though I suppose if I installed a short fence around the garden to keep her out it would work. That would have the nice side benefit of keeping that little fur ball from eating the ripe tomatoes or strawberries as she will snatch those right off of the plant if your not watching. ^_~ So on that note I should be grateful for the person who came up with the idea of fences.

Oh and I agree with Panda, central air and heat is wonderful. I remember growing up with a swamp cooler and there?s just no comparison as central air is so much nicer on those hot days.

Another thing I?m grateful for is cd?s as they have a much better sound quality than tapes or records and they last a whole lot longer. Since I listen to music every single day it?s definitely an invention I?m grateful for. I would feel completely and utterly lost without music!

Without a doubt the inventions I am most grateful for are the Washing Machine, The dryer and the Dishwasher. I just love having those around to make my work that much easier. Though now that I have only one kid at home and she?s pretty good at doing her own laundry and such they don?t get used as much anymore. Still I can?t imagine trying to work in doing all of that by hand as well as all the other stuff mom?s need to do.
Ford's in his flivver, and all's well with the world.

(Did anyone get the Brave New World reference? No? ;__;)
AHH!!!! This is why I LOVE you!!!!! HUXLEY IS MY FAVORITE!!! *glomps you to near-death* ^_____^
Orgy porgy Ford and fun, kiss the girls and make them one!
I would have to say I'm most grateful for the harnessing of electricity to power appliances. Our computers run off electricity, and I also love my computer (another invention I'm grateful for).

Have you ever had a power outage, and had to do without all your electrical appliances, including the cordless phone? When you're in a power outage, you really realize how much you depend on electricity.

The last power outage I was in was um.... 2003? When the whole north-east coast got put out because of a downed wire. And yes, I started to realize how much electricity is a part of our lives.

As a musician, I'm very glad that the guitar was invented. Not only that, but electrified. I think my most cherished possession is my electric guitar. Along with that, I'm grateful for the amplifier and the range of pedals available.

I'd be nowhere without a computer, though, and I'd be even more lost without the internet, so these are also very important inventions in my life.

Batman.

You see, without Batman, I would have no hero. Also, Robin would have never come along, which can also wipe out the awesomeness of Teen Titans. (Damn, did you see Robin in that sexy trench coat in Teen Titans: Trouble in Tokyo? I wanted to molest him more than ever.)
So, pretty much, if Batman had never been thought of and no one had had the time to ink him down... my life would be quite lame.

Here is my shrine of gratitude:

First off, Blase is my new best friend. Batman pwnz j00! ^_~

Secondly, you forgetful fools!! There is something you have all forgotten, an invention without which you would ALL be lost and hopeless. So, I will correct your ways. It is white, and soft, and fluffy. We use it for personal reasons that I will not go into, and for the yard decorations of neighbors. It is a tradition, and comes in a varity of sizes, scents, and textures. Sometimes, it even has peoples faces on it, but only if you special order it off the internet.

So, what is it? What am I so thankful for?
...Toilet paper.
^_^

For me the invention I am grateful for is the electric blanket. I have arthritis and though its not one of the more severe types I?ve always had trouble staying warm and thus trouble falling asleep. So an electric blanket is like a gift from the gods as I use mine pretty much every single day of the year. I turn it on and get all nice and warm and toasty before I go to bed. About the only difference between the summer and winter is in the summer once I?m warm I turn it off and in the winter I leave it on at a low setting.

On the same note I love central heat as well. And the heater in your car is great as well since I positively hate being cold. I love all of these wonderful devices for keeping you warm. :catgirl:

I have just thought up another invention for which I am most grateful. It is something we all use in our everyday live's. It's something that many of us couldn't live without, and that is none other than the light bulb. Yes, the light bulb, invented by none other than Thomas Edison. So let's all take a moment to admire the greatness of this man. The one and only, Thomas Edison.
