Ok, I'm playing this game in college, where I'm given a water pistol and a contract with a name. The objective is to squirt the person who owns the names with the water pistol, then steal the contract they have. Classrooms and administration buildings are safe and no one can be shot between the hours of 12am and 8am.

The problem is the vast stretches of sidewalk and the creeping paranoia that one of the people in the crowd is chasing me. Currently, I'd say i'm in good straits. I have a well-stocked pantry in my room, a myriad of ideas, and a hoody to hide my face.

Any tips? Anyone done this sort of thing before?

They play a similar game at Cambridge University here in Britain - it's an official society, called the Assassins' Guild. They have much more varied rules than yours, though - you can kill your targets with "contact poison" (Marmite), any form of toy weapon (water pistols, BB guns, those bow-and-arrows with plunger darts). One guy wrote the word "FRIDGE" on a huge block of polystyrene with a marker and dropped it on his target from a second-storey window.

My advice? Constant vigilance! That, and zanshin.

Oh god, that one cracked me up. That's classic mock-assasination, right there.

I'm a little disappointed though. I have a friend who just finished at Cambridge and has never mentioned this. I don't care if he didn't know - if he didn't, he should've done. It's a scientific fact.

Anyway, my advice - play dirty, it's always fun, right?

...Nah, don't bother. Just go with the vigilance. Oh, and don't forget to buy some tacky spy toys from your nearest toy store. Or, failing that, make some of your own. The fun never ends!

Do all the people involved in this generally know each other? If not, and you really wanna have some fun with this, I'd start going by different aliases so they can't even get your name in the first place. I suppose you should also change up the routes you take to and from your classes frequently, and walk in a large circle frequently if you think anyone is following you.

This is good, this is all good. So far, still in the game. My target does homework at around 8, i'd imagine, so i'll take her out then. I also found out that the person who's coming after me is some girl, and she's not quite...light on her feet. Its nice to know that I can outrun my assailant, but the issue of her getting taken out and then having someone random after me is not too comforting.

I've been taking alternative routes to classes, camping in my room, and wearing a concealing hoody. I'm debating on tying my hair back and wearing glasses, if only to fool them. We only have pictures from facebook and the directory to go by, so figuring out who they are is difficult, as most people aren't photogenic.

P.S. Mr. Maul, you totally ruined my plan.

I'd figure out when your target eats. Everyone is rather vulnerable when they are eating. Since I am incredibly good at sneaking up on people, I'd use the shadows and louder areas to it's full advantage. Everything is better when you are up close for the "kill"... so, take a plastic/rubber knife and sneak up behind the person when they are eating.

You just completed your contract, my friend. Just... make sure the person doesn't choke. >>

But, this is just what I'd do. Considering I have no idea what your "special abilities" are, I can't say that the stealth thing would definitely work for you.

Where do you go to college, anyway? I wish I could play a vast mock assassination game like that. :(

Wow this sounds nearly perfect, I must try this once I get into college. I bet I would be a total Solid Snake..

...

I probably would even go as far as hide under a box in a corner and just wait for someone to pass by then SRPING! knife at neck, game over. You so need to try that.

Now that I think about it the whole Snake like approach seems fitting to this. If I wanted to win I would go with that.

When did knives come into play? I guess I never knew that they made "squirt knives."

If it were me, I'd do something sneeky like find out what routes the target takes that requires he/she to use an elevator. Then I'd climb on top of said elevator via the maintenance hatch and lie (lay?) in wait for my target. When they finally used the elevator, BAM! I'd fling open the hatch and soak 'em dead.

My friends and I play a more primative version of this game at our school. We each try to assassinate each other before the day's up, except our assassinations only involve us using our thumbs as invisible shivs and then using them to shank the other person in a vital area. The game restarts everyday.

Oh, and Farto the Magic, sorry about ruining your grand scheme.

I go to Dordt college.

But, there has been a change in the game. The person who was after me spent half an hour trying to break down my door/convince me to come out. After that, she had to leave the building, due to a strictness of male/female relations in the security thing. I found out her name and schedule and avoided her, changing clothes before I left buildings and sneaking through alleys here to there. I avoided her pretty well and had the situation mapped, but...

...she's out. Now there's a complete stranger hunting me across campus...again. No one knows who it is, except the girl who persued me and the other guy. I think i'll ask her who it is. Now is when the vigilance thing really comes in handy.

My friends are helping me out, by being sentries, so to speak. My R.A. attempted to trick me into coming out of my awesomely barricade room, but it was to no avail.

Damn, this is fun...

That's a gamble. On one hand, she could tip you off and give someone to watch out for. On the other hand, she could intentionally decieve you and you'd be watching for the wrong person, leaving you relatively exposed and unaware of when you're about to be killed.

This sounds like it could be so much fun, but I'm afraid I'd never be able to do it. I'd probably be way too paranoid, not to mention never go out of my way to complete the game. It would be awesome if they did something like this in high school, but we're probably way too distractable and it would hurt our academics or something like that.

How does the game end? It seems like it could go on forever without any interruption.
The person who was after me spent half an hour trying to break down my door/convince me to come out.
In all the versions of the game I've heard of, forced entry (or attempts at it) are against the rules, for health and safety reasons. And depending on the version, rulebreakers are either disqualified or become 'Wanted' - i.e. they're basically out and can no longer earn points, but are still worth points if someone else kills them. Not a fun position to be in!

Do the rules of your game allow you to pre-emptively kill the person that's after you? The best defence is a good offence. Are you allowed to contact the people you know are playing the game, to try and get intel on your stalker?

Oh, and in games that allow 'knives', rubber or retractable toy knives, or any vaguely knife-shaped object with the word 'knife' clearly marked on it are allowed. But from the sound of it, Farto's game is purely water-pistol-orientated.

Yes, its only waterguns. You can shoot back, but that only buys you an hour. You are allowed to get intel on people. In fact, I have a spy network of my friends, who have all died already. They're verymuch trustworthy and think this is amazingly fun.

Forced entry should be banned. I think people just get too into it and the fact that I don't fall for their tricks annoys them. It turned out that the girl who previously had my name didn't get out at first, she lied. My network informed me of that and who was helping her. She tried SO hard yesterday. She sent other people to my room to try and get me out. The attempts were sad, as no one had a legitimate reason to see me.

One guy asked me a question about our philosophy 201 class...i'm not in philosophy 201, I facebooked that course to throw people off. Another guy brought me a hamburger...I was eating nachos. One guy wanted to 'meet new people.' I was in my room, who knocks on random people's doors to meet new people? And the winner for saddest attempt...

The conversation went this way:
*knock, knock*
Me: Yeah?
Him: This is Dave, from down the hall. Nick wants to talk to you.
Nick (in my room): *looks at me funny*
Me: Nick, huh?
Him: Yeah, Nick...Nick Brouwer. He wants to talk to you.
Nick: I do?
Him: Yeah, he does.
Me: If he wanted to talk to me, he could just tell me...he's in here.
Him: He wants to talk to you!
Nick: You're stupid, i'm in here!
Him: He wants to talk to you!
Me: Valiant effort, but go away.

Then she tried jumping up and down in the room above me...it was annoying at best. But then, while she was planning (out in the open, during a barbeque), she got shot and is now out. Now I have these freshmen girls after me. They did the same tactic of knocking and forcing the door open, but lack...creativity.

I give them a day, until they're out. Beyond that, my old RA from last year has my name...I love my spy network...

Interesting, most interesting.

I've got a few different cousins in college and I have to admit I've never heard of anything like this, though it has certain piqued my interest. I really hope there's something like this in whatever college or university I end up going to.

I am out. A guy broke into my room when I wasn't there and hid in my closet. He shot me alone and declared that god was his witness. The actual witness only saw me shoot him. In the end, I could've pressed the issue and not only kept in the game, but got him a level, but I was kind of apathetic, so I stepped down. I kept some honor and let the people who cared continue to duke it out. At least it was a sophmore guy who got me, rather than some ditzy freshman girl. Meh.

Yes, my neighbor who works campus security was pissed and tried to write him up anyway.
