Horendithas
I like anime that has good character development. Stuff that?s a bit more serious or stuff that?s more towards comedy is often what I look for. I also like series that have either hints of yaoi or yuri, or actually is that type of series. The thing I don?t care for is the ones that rely too much on fighting sequences. I do enjoy watching them, but I tend to tire of them too quickly. Like Naruto, Full Metal Panic and Neon Evangelion, The fighting scenes get really old really quick. Though some of that might be because so much of it in the dub version is dragged out, as often I will watch one in the subtitles only to find that quite a bit of dialogue was added that wasn?t there in the original. A good example of a series that relied more on character interaction instead of actual action sequences would be the Crest of the Stars Series. I really enjoyed that show as it relied solely on the main characters, they did such a good job of it that the few action sequences that were in it had a very powerful and lasting impact. It made a short episode seem much longer as it almost felt like you were a part of the show. Another thing I don?t care for is shows that are filled with too much comedy. Though they are fun, often the lack of taking anything serious tends to get boring after a while as well. Fruits Basket is a good example of one that doesn't make that mistake, it has a nice blend of humor and the other more serious side of exploring the characters personalities. It just makes the humorous parts even better as getting to know the characters makes them more real in my mind.

Guest bloop
I'm an artistic person. I write manga (I almost put mango, lol) and am reaaally pickly about certain things I find in anime that I watch, or read. Like in some mango's like Hanakimi (Yes I no I spelled that wrong.). I hate the lip thing they have going on, but the story's awesome and I'm glad I started reading it. Little things'll bug me at first, but if the story line's awesome, one tends to forget about how the main character's missing a finger. (lol) So first, I look at the name of the show, or manga. If it's interesting, I'll watch it. Anime is anime to me, and only a few series of anime actually bug me. Anyways, name first, style of anime next, and then story line. Lastly, I make sure it's the right kind of genre. If it's completely action, then no. And I'm talkin' like, "Mary I'm in love with you." "Jeff, I have something to tell you." "What is it Mary?" "I poisened your mother last night, and that banana you're holding will explode in tee minus ten seconds and counting."
chibi-mashumaro
I'm not really sure what I look for in an anime. Sometimes, I think it differs from each show. I think it might be mostly story, but I also look for animation, and who makes it. Like, I usually don't get many VIZ liscensed animes (bad dub!). Sometimes, I get an anime because the cover looks cool! XD Um, things I dislike in animes.... well, I'm not much of a horror person. And I like action, but gory action I dislike. And, I'm also a girl, so fan service doesn't really attract me either.
Speaking of comedy, that's another way to turn me away from animes. Now don't get me wrong, I enjoy a good laugh every once in a while but some shows tend to have either too much comedy or corny things that're suppose to be funny; Eureka 7 at one point for me just seemed to focus on comedy quite a bit, and that just didn't cut it. (Honestly, I don't like comedy in animes, but I will watch if it has alot of action.) Naruto on the other hand is just downright corny. Nothing in it seems funny to me, and I've read the manga. All them perverted jokes... Really, that's suppose to be funny? But then again, as I've said before, I don't have a sense of humor.[/size']
I agree with you very much. I like comedy, but corny comedy really can keep me from watching a show. I just don't like it. Eureka Seven, although one of my top favorite animes, was corny in the beginning. But getting later in the series, it's become much more compelling. And Naruto, I LOVE the series, I have all the mangas that are released in the US, and read it every month in Shonen Jump, but I just couldn't get into the anime as well as I did the manga. And, I know lots of people though the sexy jutsu was really funny, but I just didn't find it super funny. Oh well, guess I'm weird.
Guest Eilyndrath
There's not much I look for. As long as it has a good storyline, comedy, and I actually like it. Then I don't mind it. Lets see..I really hate animes that are Yuri and Yaoi. I absolutely despise them both. I also don't like it when they have boring fillers. I don't mind fillers, but if they're boring to me then I dislike the anime altogther.
Taka
There's a bit I look to when I watch anime. A good storyline that keeps me wanting more, good animation, and character development that lets you understand them more as the show progresses. Action in a series is alright with me but not too much, there has to be at least good amounts of drama mixed in with light-hearted comedy. Also, I've reached a point that, if the first episode doesn't interest me at all, then I won't watch the rest of series (like when I saw Bleach). -Ryusuki-
There's a few things I look for. It has to have a great storyline and plot. That's an absolute must. Also, it has to be funny or something. I don't mind if it's really gory. I actually like gory animes. =3 Well..for what I dislike..I don't like Yuri or Yaoi. I hate it soo much. Ugh. Also, I hate it when they have really boring fillers or something. I don't mind fillers really, but if they are boring and piss me off, then..I hate them.
