Roleni-Chan
Yes, a person who is doing that, they are so lame! I mean come on, they cant get some in the first place with a women their own age or what? I know this one person who is like that...but the fact, it gets me angry. If he ever reads this, sooner or later, you will get caught and what you have next. I saw it as well, I was laughing because it is so pitiful how they can do that. I mean dont they have shame. vegeta rocker
There are lots of consequences that pedophiles have to deal with. For instance, in prison it is usually bad to have it know you are there for that. Typically even inmates seem to have a problem with it. There are lots of battles waging about how pedophiles should be dealt with if they live in a family themed neighborhood.
Guest LilyBebeboo
I agree that they deserved to be caught on national television. Maybe after being noticed by millions of people they'll change their ways. Or maybe it won't. What does this have to do with anime anyway? :catgirl:
it doesnt have anything to do with anime, thats why its in the movie and TV forum. Horendithas
Perhaps I should just quote Aaryanna_Mom, SunfallE and Aaryanna as their opinion matches mine. I don?t feel sorry for them one bit as they got what they deserved by trying to take advantage of a minor. As for this:
I can't help but think that the minors these guys would be preying on are just as stupid, if not stupider. Let's make a show where we pretend to be pedophiles and then nationally humiliate the dumb tweens who agree to meet them! Do you see what I'm trying to say?

Obviously I don't really mean we should make a show where we pretend to be online predators.
I can see where you are going with this. A lot of minors, in spite of being told how dangerous it is, still go and met potential predators. If they didn?t, they wouldn?t bother trying to get them to. The predator knows that if they just keep looking online, eventually they will find someone naive enough to actually come and meet them. As for making a show, I wouldn?t put it on mainstream television, but it would make a powerful tool to show teenagers just how easy it is for a predator to find them. Though I?m sure it would completely enrage the parents as it would make them look stupid as well. As for the actual show, I need to find out when it is on as it sounds like I have been missing out. I deal with rape and domestic abuse victims all the time due to my job and believe me, it?s always great to know that another sicko has been taken off the streets, even if it?s only for a short time. Papa Smurf
I'm sorry, did I just see someone describe this show as "poetic justice"? lol. Sorry, but the idea of the show is noble (catching online predators) but I can't see how anyone could ever describe it as "justice" let alone some weird highly romanticized distorted notion of the idea of justice. If Dateline were to simply gather the information and inform the police officers, then it would be justice. If Dateline weren't broadcasting this crap on national television in what is clearly more an attempt to humiliate/expose rather than protect children, then it would be actual justice. If the host of Dateline or whoever weren't strolling out in front of a camera crew, then it would be actual justice. If the show did something other than "DATELINE SPECIAL" then it would be actual justice.

Yes, it's nice that pedophiles are getting their comeuppance, but when shows like Dateline capitalize on these cases for people's entertainment (and that is what they are doing, no matter how much they try to disguise it), then I honestly can't think of them as anything more than sensationalistic garbage. The ends are nice but the means are awful.
It is poetic justice in the sense that the predator brought it upon themselves. Not that the show itself is any form of justice. I?ll clarify my opinion for you here, do I think the show it?s self is poetic justice? No, it?s a sensationalism piece of garbage in that like you already mentioned there are better things they could be covering instead of humiliating predators to get ratings. Do they deserve to be humiliated on national TV? Not really, I would imagine being caught is more than enough humiliation in itself. But in the end, as I stated before, it?s a self inflicted problem that the predator brought upon themselves and in that respect I don?t feel sorry for them at all. Whether they are caught on this show or by the police without all the media nonsense, it is still in my opinion poetic justice when they find the police waiting for them instead of the minor they thought they were going to get their hands on.
No, it would be poetic justice if the pedophile ended up getting gang-raped by corrupt police officers. If the pedophile was abused sexually when he arrived in the house? THAT is poetic justice. He goes there to have sex--to take advantage of a minor? So then he gets taken advantage of instead. That is poetic justice. A pedophile getting arrested isn't...because there's no symmetry there. If he gets gang-raped in the shower while in prison? That's better. It's closer to poetic justice. But then that's not justice, really. It's just gang-rape in the shower. Nothing about the show is poetic justice, mate.

That far outdoes what I was thinking. Considering the nature of such people, it would be more poetic if what they had planned to do to the kids happened to them instead as you just stated. I definately agree with you on that point. Not that I wish it would happen, but it would be rather ironic if it did.
Guest LilyBebeboo
i think that in the terms of the law, this is not justice and in that way its not really fair or right, but i dont give a crap cause morally, they deserve it. if anyone is demented and evil enough to prey on little girls or boys, they deserve all the humiliation that comes to them. i hate watching that show because it disturbs me to no end. ive seen it once, and never again because its too damn sad and creepy.
