Guest Dart3055
I couldn't find the appropriate forum for this but if you could direct me to it i'd be very thankful. Some friends of mine and i are going out for halloween this year, And i have little or no knowledge of how to make costumes...or a good one at that >.> So i'm doing some research. Alyssa has her heart set on my being Kenshin so i'd like not to dissopoint. Any suggestions? I already have fairly long hair that i'll likely Dye redder than it is now. The pants look like the hardest part.
Japan
You could try to ask at Cosplay.com to actually get a lot better advice from a lot of experienced cosplayers. Though, do you or anyone you know how to sew? Because that will be a major factor whether or not you can get this costume made rather cheaply. If you pay someone to do it, it may cost you over $500. What would help you though, if you were to go to a craft store, and find a pattern for what Kenshin's outfit is. After you get the basic pattern, you can tweak it a bit to look more like Kenshin's clothing. Since you have the hair pretty much figured out, you do not need my help with that, though pay close attention to what Kenshin ties his hair back with, whether it would be a leather twine or something else. As for the black socks, you will have to buy those or you can try to make your own. Where, I think you can just buy extra large nylon socks....or something similar, and cut a slit to where the the space between the big toe and other toes are. As for sandals, try to find some type of sandal with a natural look to it. If you do not have the time or the ability to do that, you can go in your regular shoes. It is just Holloween, right? Then you will not have to be so picky. As for the pants, if you follow the pattern and make it to your size, it should be rather easy to make. For the sword, I am sure you can find a a plastic one at any toystore or costume shop. Also, if you go to a craft store, you will be able to find leather twine for carrying the sword around your waist, but try to find something pretty thick for around the waist. Perhaps maybe leftover material from the pants, and use the twine for actually securing the sword to the belt. As for the scar, I am sure you can find a girl who has dark brown eye liner. Just use it to draw the scar on your cheek and make sure you put it on dark enough so that it will stay on all night. You can always wash your face after the night is over to remove it. I hope this helps. Good luck! =^.^=
Delta
The pants Kenshin wears is called hakama, I think. In any case, if you need patterns, Google Image Search is your best friend. Oh what the hell, I'll give you the link and save you the trouble: http://kihon.aikido.org.hu/readings/img/hakama.gif Best of luck to you, chief!
AzureWolf
If you want, you could just buy a hakama and gi. Look for a set specifically designed for Iaido (aka Kenshin's style of fighting), and I think that'll be as authentic as you can get. Retain or iron back the five creases while dying it whatever color, though. As for plastic swords, they are getting to be pretty authentic looking: I was actually stopped by police because they thought I had real swords during Halloween... Guest Dart3055
You people are so helpful T__T Thankyou for all the great suggestions, Now i just need to begin attempts on completing the costume before halloween XD By the way..i am a little curious about the hair..I don't have kenshin's face, But i do have hair a little beyond my neck in length..Do you think i'll look passable with the rest of the costume even though my facial features are nowhere close to kenshin? Shaholl
Let me put this as lightly as possible, Dart. I've been to multiple anime conventions, and seen plenty of people who don't look a thing like the character they are cosplaying as. *shuddering at the memory of MORBIDLY OBESE Chi from Chobits* As long as the costume is good enough, people will recognize it and say nothing about whether or not you look enough like Kenshin. Trust me. Just don't try to go to any extremes, like plastic surgery or something :D
Guest Dart3055
XD A day before Halloween and i'm still lacking the shirt, I know what it looks like..but i'm doubtful i'll find a place that sells them around here. I finally have my hakama pants and other than the shirt the rest should be cake. As for the cons..i've heard alot about that sort of thing XD But i always assumed people did it as a joke..Hmm..still can't help but be jealous of thoses awsome Sephi cosplays that have swarms of fangirls latching on to them. Shaholl
I wish I could claim to be the object of the swarm of fangirls desires, but sadly, I wouldn't make a good enough sephiroth... or cloud... or anyone else that they pretty much salivate over.
