Morpheus
http://www.shareholder.com/mattel/news/20060928-212559.cfm My initial reaction really hasn't changed on this: It's going to flop. Priced at $30 less than a Gamecube (and the same as a used Gamecube), it can't possibly compete. "Advanced 32-bit processor with excellent graphics, speed and sound - for sophisticated, quality play" sounds like a Playstation motto. And now, eleven years later, it just sounds sad. Charles
One question: Haven't you ever been to a mall? I see booths with knock-off video game systems all the time.
Morpheus
I've seen plenty knockoffs, but none that cost an easy hundred to do anything with. Thirty dollars is something that people might take a chance on(and I have), but one hundred? I doubt it.
Goodbye, Face
I can see where they're going with the system and as a TCG player myself, I like the idea. I'd just rather see it implemented as say... an add-on for an existing console... than as a seperate thing for $100 run by people I don't know anything about. Personally, I'd love to play a Magic: the Gathering game with my own cards, not having to re-purchase my collection in virtual form. That'd be nice to see, if it were possible.
Guest MetalMadness122
When I saw it, it looked slightly interesting-then they showed the X-Men. I like the X-Men, but on that? Now, if it was Yu-Gi-Oh...
Semjaza
This is somewhat older news. The only reason most people wouldn't know that is because no on really cares. It's clear Mattel isn't going to be marketing this towards the people who would buy a real, dedicated console. That's probably the best thing they can do. I don't know that it will flop, but I could see it doing well enough to jusify further releases and enough sales for small companies and Mattel itself to release for it. A lot of people simply cannot afford modern consoles and this is the only real alternative I think those people have.
