visualkei
I remember watching the news one morning and two poor kids were on tv talking about their experiences in the recent colorado shooting. I felt bad for those kiddies, and was a little moved listening to one of them talk about how he wanted to stay and protect the girls that were being held hostage. Then a few days later, I find out this kid lied. You can read more about it here: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/09/29/national/main2051733.shtml I'm wondering what in the world would cause you to go on national television and lie about something like that! Some could say that he was caught up in the moment, wanted to be a hero so bad he deluded himself. Or perhaps he was ambushed by the media and this caused him to embellish the story. Either way, I think it's wrong, and I don't feel sorry for his lying to be exposed. What do you think about this kid? What disturbs me is that there are a lot of people out there that lie. Bogus lies about anything... Or people who make tiny white lies-- the problem is that they lie all the time. Do you know these types of people? Any of them your friends? I used to be close to this friend, and there was a time when I spent a great deal of time around her. Then I realized that she often embellished stories to make herself seem cooler. Sometimes she would reverse roles in her storyies so that she was the "hero." This became quite evident to me when a group of us were recalling an event, and her story of how nobel she was in that situation was all wrong. We had proof of her being on camera for doing something different than her story, yet she kept denying the truth altogether! That really disturbs me. Some people have such strong and delusional egos. It's like some sort of self defense mechanism based on delusions of grandeur. I think it's mostly harmless, but I just can't be close someone like this because I simply don't trust them. Do you know these types of people? Are you one? =P hehe. What do you think of people who embellish their stories? Harmless? Harmful? Tolerable? Annoying? --Definately.
Albert Flasher
Everyone lies, at some point or another. Everyone embelishes and tells untruths and exaggerates, either to make them feel bigger or for no real reason. There is, however, a difference between a compulsive liar and a casual extravigizer. As far as I can decern, all people fall into either the first or the second category, and I'd say I fall mostly in the 2nd category. I'm remarkably honest, really. It stems from two things; one, I rarley do anything wrong (Because I happen to believe rules are there for a reason) and two, when I do, it's something that I have no shame in. Example 1: "You eat that slice of pie?" Answer: "Sure did." Example 2: "Baillie, you listening?" Answer: "No sir, can't say that I was." Most of the people I know aren't what I'd call compulsive liars, at least so far as I can tell. Much like me, whenever they do lie, it's blatant and clearly intended for comedic effect. Generally, though, I don't have much of an opinion on liars; I'm quite fond of them, in fact, for they have a habit of telling the most entertaining stories. I can understand the kid's position, though. Everyone wants to be a hero, and, hey, who's gona know you were lieing? I bet it happens all the time, and they usually get away with it because their lies make good media stories. I guess the kid just couldn't go through with it...
Panda
It is very disturbing when you start to see all these attention seekers who get on tv during terrible events just so they can get some attention. I guess it's the mentality of "any attention is good attention". Like those people who went out to the Twin Tower site with pictures of missing loved ones when they didn't have anyone there at all. Meh to them. I would have to agree with HedonismBot that everyone lies from time to time. Like when you are at the store and the clerk asks you how you are doing today...do you honestly tell them that you are doing crappy or do you just say "fine" even though it's a lie? I just give the generic response of fine because I doubt they really want to know how I am doing. LOL I suppose this is why when you are in court they make sure you know you need to "tell the truth, whole truth and nothing but the truth". It's very, very easy to only tell half truths and little lies.

LOL
One thing to say, Word, so true, so true. Anyways what I find crazy is that the people that actually start to believe thier own lies. It's sad, that someone could be that dilusional, but at the same time it's scary. About the kid though, it's hard because most people want to do the right thing and be the "Hero". But in the heat of the moment many people loose their composure and panic, and then after the fact they get down on themselves like I shoulda done this, or that. I actually kinda feel bad for the kid, because he is going to suffer the most for his actions, because he lost both the respect he gained through his lie, and probably some he had before. I personally don't like to lie, and I don't on most occasions, although I have found that I am quite good at it when I need to be, which I only do for a good reason. But like I'm strait foward if I was in the kids position and the gunman gave me a choice to stay or go, and I went, I'd strait up tell people I ran like a school girl, but thats just me lol.
