Jakehammaren
Alright, I'll admit it. This album rocks. I know that's totally not metal of me to say, but it's the downright truth. I was not expecting what this little Arkansas outfit had in store for all of us. This is a huge departure from their major-label debut. Without Ben Moody's pop sensibilities running the show, Evanescence has taken on a much stranger, darker, heavier edge. It's friggin' cool, I might add. I know there's plenty of Evanescence fans here on the 'Boards, so let's hear some feedback!
vegeta rocker
I didnt like their first single off the album too much, if the rest of the album is better than i would probably like it. I just felt like the song was taking shots at her ex since he broke up with her so he could focus on fixing his alcoholism. It just sounds like shes complaining that he doesnt love her and he would be with her if he did no matter what. Just me though, i could be totally wrong. Other than that the song was alright, amazing art direction though, the video is absolutely gorgeous.
kyandi
Evanescence is definitely a guilty pleasure for me. I love the "Call Me When Your Sober" song, but I've yet to hear the rest of the album.
Box Hoy
Well. I've beena fan of evenesance for a long time. Although I only have her first album. I saw the music video to "Call Me When Your Sober" and was fiarly impressed. I don't think she strays too far from her roots though. "Sweet Sacrifice" is a good sounding song too but it seems to have the same attitude she had back in the Fallen days. I dunno. Nevertheless, she's really talented.
kyandi
The Origin album (it's out of print btw) is awesome too.
Jakehammaren
Yeah, the lyrics to that song are definately shameless pot-shots at Ben Moody. But oh well, at least her complaining turned into a decent song. Oh, and Box Hoy, Evanescence is a them, not a her (as in it's a band, not a solo artist). vegeta rocker
Even though Orgins is out of print they say you can download their album sometime in the future for free legally. i have it, its pretty cool. They didn't release it because of some conflicts with the new label. But i just limewired mine since i couldnt find it to actually buy.

I... I think it is. Jake saying he thinks Evanescence is good. Jesus man, not only is my world blown, but your metal cred? It just went out the window, like a flock of angry, guitar dueling doves that broke the window down with some blast beats first. I'm so sorry I have to break this to you, but... You are no longer f*cken metal.
Jakehammaren
^^^ Aw, come on - every metalhead has his/her guilty pleasures! By the way, I love the dual-guitar doves analogy. Beautiful. Quick - someone argue with me about about how some generic nu-metal/metalcore band is really, really metal so I can pwn you and get my metal cred back! Sandy
*now listening to "Open Door"* I became an instant Evanescence-fan when I heard the singles from the album "Fallen" from the radio, so I've been eagerly waiting for this new album. At first, the songs in it sounded quite similar to each other, but after listening them over and over again, they are definitely growing on me. My absolute favorites from the album are Lacrymosa and Like You, both are very touching and beautiful in a somber way (I don't know any music terms, so excuse me for not giving more specific reasons). Justin
*Is trying to think of guilty pleasures* I've only heard the single off this album, and while it's decidedly different in a new and creative way than the Hot Topic-oriented songs of Evanescence's past, it's still just not my cup of tea. *Bury Your Dead* -Justin
ChibiHorsewoman
Okay I'm posting about Evanescence while listening to the Dixie Chicks' third album. Can someone say contrast? Yeah, I bought the Open Door CD when it came out. What can I say I liked the song Call Me When You're Sober. It made me think of this one guy I know and well, it was perfect. Plus I already own Fallen so I needed to add to my collection. I didn't care much for the video to the song, it didn't seem to have anything to do with the song. And don't flame me for not understanding art. I just didn't get what Amy Lee running around in a ball gown had to do with a guy leaving her because he'd rather get pissed. (That'd be drunk according to my fanfic buddy from Wales) I like the rest of the CD, well Lithium is a bit too slow for me, but I think everything else fits fine. DeadSeraphim
So, I actually heard the album now, which means I can do more than tell Jake that he's street cred is blown like a cheap whore. Thus, without further ado... I hate it. Wait, no. I don't really hate it. But when it shows no progression from the last album, and every track blurs into the next one like your average Linkin Park album, it's hard to get excited. I thought I heard some Black Metal influences at first, but then I realised it was just more chugga chugga guitar with Amy Lee doing the same Goddamn vocals for each track. It gets two big yawns from me.

vegeta rocker
DeadSeraphim's just giving you hell for the hell of it, don't take it too personally JH. I actually listened to the CD and i honestly only enjoy 2 songs. It just kind of blends together, like one long vocal exercise. Maybe it will grow on me. Jakehammaren
Maybe it will grow on me.
Nah, it probably won't. It's actually done the opposite for me. I've grown somewhat bored of it.
Tekkaman
I'm listening to 'The Open Door' right now and until I listen to the CD more than once, Evanescence currently rocks in my book! I'm glad my wife bought the CD for me on my birthday; I listened to 'Fallen' while I was in Iraq and man-oh-man, you talk about some great 'wake up at 5:00a, go out on the road of Iraq, dodge a couple dozen IED whilst trying to shoot insurgents and stay alive' music... Kick *ss, this CD is!!!
Boo
My main issue about this album is that most of the tracks sound alike. If you like one of the songs, you'll most likely like all of them, but they surely could have been more original. For one: it's fine if you experiment with funky electronic beats on a song once in a while, but please don't use them on each song. There were some fine songs on it, but the rest is one big thing with varying choruses. The artwork on the cover of the album doesn't represent the album too well.
Japan
I wasn't too impressed with the Call Me When Your Sober song at all. For one it is second rate compared to their other albums and I am afraid to waste my money on it. If the singles, which are suppose to be an artists best songs on an album are not even good, how can one trust for the rest of the album to be good? I'm not bashing them. I for one like them a lot and I just about listened to my Evanescense live in Paris cd (Forgot the exact title) to death and I still love it. When ever I see that single I turn it off immediately. It sucks that bad. It is repetitive, annoying and the music gives me a headache. I will have to listen to the rest of the album once I make my way to Barnes and Nobles...but for now, I am not impressed.
Tekkaman
Okay... now it's time for me to post my second review of the CD, 'The Open Door'. Alright, firstly, as I kept playing the songs over and over agin while posting on the Boards, I noticed Jakehammaren was right with his theory - The songs get quickly annoying. Emphasis on 'quckly' - i've owned this CD for no longer than a week and I already want to use it as a frisbee. Evanescence should've stopped at 'Fallen', which, by the way, has more replay value than this CD. This CD... it's an 'open mess'. Fallen not only has better songs, but they also have diversity... somewhat. Whereas in 'The Open Door', all you get is - Guitar, Drums, Piano... Guitar, Drums, Piano... Guitar, Drums, Piano... Oh wait, a diversified melody - Guitar, Drums, Piano... It's endless, and aggravating no less. In Evanescence's defense concerning her new CD though, i've picked out my favorite song - yes, 'song', meaning singular. Lithium is the song that I chose. ...I've a personal connection to this song though... so I guess that's a biased answer, huh? *Saves 'Lithium' on hard drive before chucking CD* Now... as soon as I find my wife's 'Mariah Carey, Greatest Hits' CD, i'll be free (Gawd, she's hot, though *Drools*)...
