aramik, while this thread has potential, your opening post doesn't provide much to go on. Please be sure to say a little more about the shows you mention so your post doesn't end up as just a list. I ask that you edit your post to provide some reasoning or even just a little about the shows to get the conversation rolling.

And for the record, I loved Thunder Cats. I'd run home every day from school to watch that show. I was so happy when I heard they were coming out on DVD but that happiness was quickly shot down when I saw how expensive they were.

I loved watching Tiny Toons when I was in elementary school. My favorite episodes were the ones where they mocked MTV.

I have no idea what Aramik is. Was this shown in the US?

Edit: Wait a minute. I just realized, he was responding to Aramik, the screen name, not as a cartoon example. My bad.

Cartoons back in my day were tiny toons, animanaics, samurai jack, the original Dragon ball z, and dragon ball, when toonami was on weekdays i can go on and on but i say all the time is most of the old shows were the best we should have kept the old ones with new seasons like samurai jack ( great show ended to quickly)

lol @ visualkei. Worry not, we all have our 'cute' moments.

Has anyone seen Captain Star? That show was amazing. I have one nerdy friend at work that loves to talk about it, but nobody else seems to have known about it. A blatant spoof of Star Trek, but brings a tear to my eye.

There was also Rocko's Modern Life. That show is the essence of "trippy". Have you ever seen the OP for that show? His brain gets squished out and eaten by his dog! He has toads for neighbours, and a cow for a best friend. Duuude....

Then there was that MTV show for a while, The Maxx. The insanity in that show kept drawing me back. So gritty, so dirty, so unpredictable... Very different from the other shows I had access to at the time. It brings back fond memories...

Heh~ I less than three cartoons. T_T

I loved that show. I just found out the other day that Carlos Alazraqui was Rocko's voice, which means the man was one of my favorite actors even back then.

There was this group of short cartoons called O, Canada!, although I might have the title wrong. I wish I could find them now, they made such a big impression on me. The ones I remember most is one where
a scientist invents a machine that instantly tranfers you from one place to another. You start in one box, and end up in the second box. A woman finds out what it really does is make an exact copy of you, meaning there would be two of you. The original in the starting box is zapped into nonexistence. Killed. So she gets the inventor of the machine to duplicate himself, but leave the kill timer with extra time. The inventor and his copy start circling each other, and then they can no longer tell who is the original to be killed. The woman has them play a game of chess to decide who is the copy. One scientist wins the game, and the woman says that only the original could have won. She and the scientist-clone shove the original into the box, and he gets zapped into nonexistence. Both the woman and the scientist-clone regret doing it immediately, and the scientist-clone loses all passion for the invention, realizing that it is wrong to take life. The woman then steps into the box and transports herself, killing her. Her clone steps out of the other box with a sense of new identity.
Man, I remember that way too well, but I was young, saw that same short about ten million times because I stayed up late and it was always on, and it really made an impression on me. No other cartoon I had seen did that. Although, the show probably wasn't meant for people my age at the time.

Tom and Jerry taught me how to spell before I ever started going to school. There was another cat trying to get rid of Jerry for Tom, but he couldn't. After being extremely frustrated, he crossed out a word on his mouse exterminator bag, and wrote the word cat. Tom then said, "C-A-T. Cat." And that taught me how to spell at around age four.

Courage the Cowardly Dog is still one of my favorites. It had a dark atmosphere, and drew from all sorts of fairy tales and random ideas. It had awesome characters and stories, more than you would expect from a children's cartoon show.

Well, Thunder Cats was one of my favorites way back in the day. I can't say that I liked the old cliche idea of good against evil, but hey... it was animals in tights.. what more do you want? :D

Anyways, my favorite show that I always loved to watch was freaking Captain Planet. I loved that show to no end because I loved the cool rings and the fact that they actually saved the world.... no, not from evil, but from pollution! It was totally awesome and I would have to admit, some of the guys on there were pretty cute. XD Captain Planet was the best, especially when he would always give us morals at the end.

There was another one, but I don't remember what it was called... it was about two motorcycle cats or something.

One of my favorite cartoons which I use to watch is Darkwing Duck. One of Disney?s better productions as far as cartoons go. If you haven?t seen it, the show is basically set in St. Canard (which resembles San Francisco) where the flamboyant Darkwing duck who lacks superpowers but has a variety of nifty gadgets, meddles with the plans of villains. It?s wonderfully hilarious and I just recently got the DVD set. I?m looking forward to when they release the second set as I had forgotten just how much I enjoy this series.

The other one I use to watch is TaleSpin. Also by Disney. This one takes characters from the Jungle Book, primarily Baloo the Bear and puts them in a 1930?s pacific setting where Baloo is a pilot. The thing I enjoy most is the wacky villian Don Karnage, an air pirate as his corny sayings use to just crack me up. I also just got the DVD release of this series as well and now that I just finished watch Darkwing duck I?m looking forward to re-watching this series as well. Good stuff! :catgirl:

Interesting, most interesting.

Quite a few of the ones I grew up on how already been mentioned, Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles (they changed it to Hero over this side of the Atlantic), Darkwing Duck, Captain Planet, Earthworm Jim, all shows that I'll never watch again in case I ruin the pleasant nostalgia I have them envisioned in.

Other shows I used to watch as a kid included:

Biker Mice from Mars: I think it was one of my cousins introduced me to this show, about the same time as TMHT was ending, originally I thought it was cool, reruns have since shattered that pleasant memory.

Gargoyles: Pretty much the same as BMfM, thought it was great for it's time, plus it featured about half the cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation.

Transformers G1: Still possibly the greatest idea ever committed to animation, TFG1 pwns all it's half-breed financially driven sequel series.

SWAT Kats: So bad, it was good.

Added to that pretty much anything Marvel did.

I really miss Outlaw Star, cos I loved the concept of going from planet to planet and stealing stuff with a crack team of pirates in a hijacked ship. I wish that they would of kept going, cos I missed the ending episodes. I would watch Cowboy Bebop but for some reason, it cant hold my interest.

I also miss the cartoon, invader zim, I loved the dark humour and the style of animation, and the little guy named gir.

"I like this show...."

Now: FEEL THE RUSH [Junkie XL Remix]
Artist: Melody.
Album: Need For Speed Carbon Soundtrack

Wow, I think I might be one of the only people that didn't like Captain Planet, I hate the show, and I hate saying I hate something. Ok Well I don't really hate the show, but I hate Captain Planet, his outfit, his green hair, his blue skin, even his voice. He was soooo cheeeesy, even though that seems to be childrens television in general lol. I didn't mind the show I liked the other characters, though the villians were almost as bad as CP. I did like the Captain Planet skit on Robot Chicken though, it was too funny, probably because I hate him so bad.

One of my favorite cartoons that hasn't been mentioned yet, was Pirates of DarkWater. I loved this show to pieces, in matter of fact I forgot the name of it and I was bugged forever that I couldn't remember it. I finally figured it out like a year ago, when I was watching Cartoon Networks Boom and it came on.

Another one to mention, I can't remember the name though, it's a movie though, like Nemo's Adventure in Slumberland or something. It's about a boy named Nemo, and like this black darkness thing, and he has like a flying bed. Me and my cousin used to watch that movie daily, we loved it.

I also really liked X-men, Darkwing Duck, Gargoyles, Tail Spin, Gummy Bears, this show about gnomes, and many more, I love cartoons!!!

Looking back, most things aren't as good as we remember, TMNT and BMfM are both shows that were awesome back in the day but now are kind of bad. These shows fall into this classification (As well as Street Sharks and Captian Planet) but are still so fun to watch because they're so bad by todays standards.

Nostaglia clouds the mind with Happy thoughts that must be kept there.... The shows are awesome even though they suck, simple as that.

Ahhh... Digimon. I always liked it better than Pokemon even though I was obsessed with both.
But, Digimon was about the only thing I ever watched. When I was younger, we didn't have cable. So FOX was just about the only channel I had to watch cartoons on. I remember always running home from school so I could catch the newest episode at four o'clock. And yes, this is how I was drug into the world of anime. I still love the first few seasons of that show, I want to buy them and have a blast from the past marathon. :)

Freakazoid. Oh jesus, that show scared me, but I loved it. I started watching it at my friend's house, because she actually had cable. Haha. I actually don't even remember much of that show, though. O.o

After so long, we had cable... and I was a fan of pretty much any of Cartoon Network's Cartoon Cartoons. I'd always make a little cushion fort on our foldout couch every week and watch the Friday night lineup. Fun times.

And then, of course, there was always Toonami. I miss the old Tom and the whole space gang. :(

One of my favorite lines from Darkwing Duck, SunfallE, was when DD would introduce himself: "I am the phone call that wakes you at 4 in the morning... I am Darkwing Duck!"

=P
I just finished watching the DVD set I got and it?s just too funny all the things he says from the standard..I am the terror that flaps in the night to the?I am the ingrown toenail on the foot of crime. :catgirl: And I had also forgotten just how funny some of the villains are as well. In one of the episodes the major villain is demanding money from the governments and he tells them to raise taxes. Then the funny part is when he turns and looks at the camera and says?Like they need an excuse right? Hehe!
Interesting, most interesting.

Heh, with everyone bustin up on american cartoons, I never would've thought people use to watch these shows.

Anyways, there are quite a few that really stick out in my mind.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - While my brother was into He-man and Thundercats back in the day, this was my cup of tea. I actually still remember some of the lyrics... @_@

X-Men - Now that I've seen the re-runs on Toon Disney, I can't help but say shut up.. All the talking they did during the battles got really irritating, but nevertheless, I still watched this back in the day.

Spider-Man - Again, now that I've seen it on Toon Disney, can't help but think Parker is really stupid. (smart, but stupid) Anyways, I think I actually watched this more than X-men.

Batman: TAS - Good stuff here. I remember just cracking up laughing whenever I saw batman punch the hell out of some crook because it looked funny, but the impact was just... 'ouch'. Too bad the fights looks sluggish now lol.

Biker Mice From Mars - I hear they were suppose to be doing a remake. In any case, i didn't keep up with it regularly, I just remember the white mouse, (or rat... too damn big to be mice) he was pretty funny.

And then there's Double Dragon, Street Sharks, Extreme Dinosaurs, (oh, the corny-ism) Darkwing Duck, Mighty Ducks, Duck Tales, Captain Planet, (I really hated this show, but there was something there that always brought me back to it...) Mighty Max, Chip n Dale, Flintstones, Looney Tunes, Animanics, (Good idea, Bad idea anyone?) Scooby Doo, Denver the last Dinosaur.... And I think I'll stop right there cuz I'm going to go hide in a corner after saying that one.

Yeah, I'm with you. I did watch that show back in the day, but I think that might have been because my brother did. It was always too cheesy, and the planeteer's moral bit at the end of the episode was annoying. Although the show is good for a laugh when I look back now.

I used to watch Doug, Ren & Stimpy, Tom & Jerry, Angry Beavers... I think my favourites were Rugrats (especially before Dil was born) and Rocko's Modern Life. Oh, and The Simpsons, of course. Actually I still watch those last three, and sometimes I'm amazed that some of those Rocko episodes were actually played on Nickelodeon. But it's great.

So many to name.

Robotech - My first anime experince and I loved it.
Technoman - Watched through it twice and did not sick of it.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Who didn't love these guys?
Dragonball Z - I was already into the series before it even came to Australian TV cause all my asian friends told me all about it and had the cards.
Samauri Pizza Cats - I think thats what it was called, once again a kickass show.

There's more but I'd say those were the highlights.

Oh my yes, how I so miss those days where I could sit in front of the tv and fry brain cells with such awesome cartoons, which pretty much don't exist anymore, sadly.

- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
- Darkwing Duck
- Tale Spin
- Sonic the Hedgehog
- The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog
- Winnie the Pooh
- Bonkers
- Duck Tales
- Earthworm Jim
- Ren and Stimpy
- Tom and Jerry
- The Jetsons
- The Flintstones
- Looney Tunes
- Tiny Toons
- Freakazoid
- Animaniacs
- Ace Ventura: Pet Detective
- The Mask(there was a cartoon)
- The Simpsons
- Mighty Ducks
- Bruno the Kid
- Chip n' Dale Rescue Rangers
- Garfield and Friends
- Eek! the Cat
- The New Adventures of Jonny Quest
- Pink Panther
- Popeye
- Ghost Busters
- Quake Pack(I remember when this cartoon first started, at 4pm on weekdays, heh)
- The Addams Family
- Bobby's World
- Inspector Gadget
- Alvin and the Chipmunks
- Camp Candy
- Beetlejuice
- The California Raisins
- Wild West C.O.W.-Boys of Moo Mesa
- Aladdin
- Goof Troop
- Taz-Mania

Then there were the somewhat newer ones when I was growing up, like Rugrats, Doug, Rockos Modern Life, Angry Beavers, CatDog.

Anime, when I was younger. Dragonball Z, and Gundam Wing. Those were the only good ones on when I started watching, unless you counted Sailor Moon, but I never liked it.

Theres so much more I remember, but I think I needed a cut off point. :animeswea

Mine too! I guess I never really appreciated it until they took it off air, though. It's my absolute most favorite cartoon of all time. TV shows don't usually make me laugh (unless it's Fresh Prince or Sabrina the Teenage Witch), but Courage always did. Powerpuff Girls too, I guess, but probably just because my sisters and I once went crazy making fun of it. Neither cartoons are on TV now, and it's really annoying.

I also used to watch Ed, Edd, and Eddy, but I must've given it up about halfway through middle school. I don't know why...it was always pretty funny to me, but I remember watching it recently and finding it rather juvenile. Cartoons on TV nowadays are all immature and dumb.

Bring back Courage and PPG. =(

Ok, my turn! =]

I really liked watching cartoons when I was little and reading all of your posts really brought back memories. Though, based on the greatest cartoon shows i've ever seen, my 4 favorites from worst-best to best-of-the-best is as follows:

Darkwing Duck: I really loved this cartoon when I first watched it. Seeing a crime-fighting duck battle evil with his goofy catch-phrases and manage to live throughout the enemy onslaughts was pretty funny. Honestly though, my two favorite characters on that show was Darkwing's niece [though I can't remember the name] and Darkwing's evil counterpart [and I can't remember his name either.].

Cardcaptors: It wasn't because I liked Sakura or anything; but it was because I liked the cards wreaking havok upon the town. The cards that I liked were:
- Firey: Basically, a 'destroy everything because I hate life' card =D
- Time: Underrated, considering that controlling time is a BROKEN ability, but cool nonetheless.
- Power: The Power card rules, period! That card made Sakura look like a total greenhorn in terms of capturing cards.

Dragonball/Z/GT: Simply put, a great anime. I'm still a huge fan of the Cell Saga and when SSJ2 Teen Gohan wiped the floor with Cell. Oh, and let's not forget the Vegeta - Goku episode back in the Saiya-jin saga when Goku and Vegeta first fought. Need I say more?

Teknoman/Tekkaman and Tekkaman II: Did you guys think i'd leave this out?! No matter how you say it, this tech anime has touched my heart. A nolstalgic anime of mine [and many others] back in the day since UPN decided to cancel the show in mid-swing, the show is now the only anime I still watch. If you want to know how to watch Tekkaman, please PM me or e-mail me. I would put the name of the site up but i'd get in trouble for dropping web names. =]
